Hotel is quite nice, and very close to ferry. Room was fair size, clean, with everything you need. Nice view as well. Restaurant was very pricey…$37 for breakfast buffet with limited options. The hotel staff speak very little to no English. We were awaken at 5 am with noisy hall conversations…not sure if it was staff or guests leaving for ferry…but very disruptive to those of us trying to sleep. Not a lot of choices for hotels in the Magdalene islands..but this one served the purpose.

This was a first time for my wife and I to stay here.
We arrived by plane from Montreal, Quebec. Air Canada fly's to the island twice a day.
The hotel was very clean and up to date with electronic conveniences.
English is not a great concern. Room was great. Food was excellent. Nice selection of fish and some seafood.

Our main purpose was to photograph the seals. There is an open window for about 2 weeks at this time that this can be done. We were there from March 3rd - 6th. You need a helicopter which was arranged by the hotel.

There are many Japanese and other photographers from around the world whom you will meet also doing this same excursion. What an an event! You will be flown approx. 45 miles out onto the ice flows. There you will land and stay on a ice flow for approx. 2 hours. The hotel supplies "Mustang" Survival Suits. They are quite warm. I would suggest good warm mittens and a balaclava to wear. The day we were out there it was -30F. on the ice. About a 35 mile and hour wind.

Other amenities were a nice indoor pool, hot tub & sauna. There were three very interesting island tours provided by the hotel. They also had a shuttle bus that took you shopping and transportation to and from the airport.

The is a solid 3 star property, akin to a mid-grade Holiday Inn or Best Western. My wife and I were here for 3 days only at the very end of the tourist season. $142/n for a 2 room suite with a Jacuzzi and an ocean view was quite reasonable. The day time desk clerk who had fairly good English was very helpful throughout. The dining room people had very limited English. The dining room prices quite high, especially for the wines -- mais c'est la vie, ici est Quebec. The lack of AC was not relevant in September. Re cleaning: The room was very well serviced every day. We were also amazed to see the chambermaid in a suite adjacent to ours actually on her hands and knees cleaning a bathroom ---- something we'd never seen done in any big city in North America. Defects: No WiFi; hall carpets very tired & patchy; exterior paint job needed on some balconies; tv channels actually available did not match those said to be available in the TV guide in the suite; car essential as it would be a good 40-50 minute walk into town.
PS Anyone who comes to Les Iles de la Madeleine should know in advance that French is the main language here. They should not presume that the sun rises and sets on the needs of Americans some of whom appear to think the rest of the world should speak their version of the English language.

There are no words for laying out on the ice and watching and hearing the baby seals. The flight to Madeleine and the helicopter flight itself were outstanding but the seals were best experience of my life not related to my kids.
The hotel was great. Food 5 star! I bought food package as I understood you had to go offsite to eat if you didn’t but you can actually just pay for what you eat as you go!
Staff excellent there is a small language barrier with front desk and explaining hold ups with seal flights but they are working really hard at getting everyone on to ice as soon as is safe. The tours on island are weather permitting so Mother Nature in charge of that. We found out our seal expedition was delayed after big storm and seals had moved. The rooms were great and all you need and shuttle service to airport.
Thanks everyone involved for this spectacular life experience. I went because my Ovarian Cancer was back and wanted to see bubba seals before restarting treatment.
So now I can just relive my experience over and over in my head!

Dear lady, We are extremely touched by your testimony and are proud to have contributed to this wonderful memory. Watching the baby seals is a unique experience in the world that you have been able to witness this year in the Magdalen Islands. Every year, about 100 people have had the privilege of going on the ice floes and witnessing this wonderful spectacle. You had the chance to be part of it and leave with this beautiful memory. We wish you a good rest and good courage in your treatment. We sincerely hope to have the opportunity to see you again and to hear from you. With our sincere greetings. Chateau Madelinot team

Booked this hotel as it is really the only large hotel on the islands. Price was fair but then again it is September and at the very end of the tourist season. Room was modern (not huge) but it also had a deck that faced the water. This hotel is not new but the room we stayed in appears to have been recently upgraded. I think they are focusing their upgrades on the inside which I also think is a good thing. I am sure that the exterior will be next. I would give it a 6/5 if that was possible because of the hospitality I was shown - you need to experience it to believe it. To begin with we had dinner twice in the restaurant and were served by Jean-Francois and Jacque. They both spent a lot of time talking to us and I could tell that they are so proud of the islands. We were treated as guests and not as customers. I also spent some time talking with Manon at the front desk asking for help on booking tours and attractions we should see. She spend a lot of time with me and even made some phone calls for me too - I should have left something $$$ for her because she really wanted us to have the best island experience and she delivered. Although my French speaking ability is very limited, it didn't matter as they went out of their way to help in any way they could as did everyone we met). Not sure that I have ever experienced the level of hospitality that was shown to us at the hotel and also everywhere we visited. I would stay there again and hope to do so again soon. Just keep in mind that this isn't The Ritz.

Disclaimer: Americans... LEARN FRENCH if you are staying here. It's not just the hotel, most of the island doesn't speak English, so its not an isolated thing. If you have food allergies especially, print a card in advance with them translated into French so you can communicate that for meals.

We came in March for the harp seal tours which were fantastic. If you come in March, know that nearly all restaurants are closed for the season, so Tim Hortons or the hotel restaurant are virtually your only options (also, rooms do not have microwaves for eating in). The food is pretty good, but know that the restaurant staff do not speak any English at all and I mean zero. Twice in a seven day stay, I did not get the plate I ordered for dinner due to the language barrier. With food allergies, that meant going to bed hungry since I couldn't communicate effectively that I could not eat it safely.

The hotel day staff however can understand you, but not necessarily respond in English which was helpful. They were charming and attentive. If you need anything, just ask at the front desk. The owners and day staff were fantastic. Anything from helping to rebook flights or arrange tours, they would genuinely try to help with a compassion that seems lost in society today. I would encourage anyone staying here to go with an open mind. If you're looking for a 5 star, high tech, marble shower kinda decadence, you won't find it here. What you will find is a friendly family style atmosphere full of local culture and adventure all its own. Hotel is dated decor wise but quaint in a lovely way. We had wifi in our room, but I heard from other patrons that its hit or miss. Our rooms were also ridiculously clean during our entire stay, so don't let the decor scare you off, they have it right where it counts.

Overall, we would recommend this hotel, but like I said to really get the most out of the experience, check-in with an open mind.

We stayed here in early March. It was an amazing experience. We were picked up in a very friendly manner at the airport. We stayed five days with all meals included and the food was terrific. Service was slow but oh so friendly and they were willing to accomodate special requests.

In early March, the hotel operates a helicopter service to the ice to see the pup seals. What an amazing experience. We took two helicopter trips. Book early because flights fill up. This event lasts only two weeks. The hotel opened special for this activity. The hotel also included three terrific tours of the island with a wonderful guide.

Only negative was poor wifi connection.

The Chateau Madelinot can be best described as a good functional hotel (rather than charming) . The rooms are big, convenient and clean. The option of 2 beds is available if you dislike a single queen bed . The hotel has all amenities such as laundry room and WiFi. You can get breakfast from 6AM onwards if you need to catch the ferry

During our stay in early July, the occupancy rate was rather low so it did not feel very lively. However there are plenty of other places in the Iles de la Madeleine that make up for this. Pas Perdus in Cap aux Meules has some good vibes and the creperie on Dune Sud is also fun (good French crepes in a hammock on the beach )

The hotel can be reserved via the isle de la madeleine tourism website but since it is unlikely that they call you back in Europe you need a follow up call with your credit card - despite this being the bigger business hotel it still required French
Same with reserving the ferry which is quite easy on their website. However our confirmation got stuck in a spam filter and to resolve this required talking French. You can reserve the ferry from Europe by just putting in rental car in the required fields ... they accept this

The Iles de la madeleine are fun and beautifull though and the atmosphere is laid back

This relatively new property is on the water and most rooms (or maybe all?) have a view of the water. There are a lot of balconies and patios. Sleeping with the sound of the sea is recommended. It's a short walk (15 minutes?) to the center of Cap-aux-Meules. The hotel is not particularly charming but it does have a lot of features, from an indoor pool to a restaurant to a laundry room. Our room had no fridge or coffeemaker. When I asked for the latter, they sent for one and voilà, we had a coffeemaker. The staff was friendly and helpful.
