Stayed here a few times during Miami Music Week in March. Great bang for the buck but this was before renovations. I wanted to go back last March but they were closed due to remodeling. I'm actually going to look into staying there again this year. It is not in the middle of south beach, but just an 15 min uber ride away. Beautiful pool and beach. Classy place. Love it.

I think some of the negative reviews of this hotel might have stemmed from the fact that some companies have it listed as a 4-star property, when in fact Wyndham itself will tell you it is a 3-star property. For example, we booked through American Airlines Vacations who told us this was a 4-star hotel which is incorrect. Apparently not all Wyndham properties are 4-star. If you go to the Wyndham Miami Beach expecting a very luxurious property with modern decor, such as say the Wyndham off Michigan Avenue in Chicago (where I also stay), then you might be disappointed.

Having said that however, we did have an excellent stay. This was definitely the best 3-star hotel we have ever stayed at, and normally I only stay at 4 or 5 star hotels because I get very limited vacation time from work and I want to limit any possible variables that could make my vacation a bad one. It was because of American Airlines mix up with the rating that we ended up staying at this hotel at all, but our stay was excellent.

Yes, the rooms are dated, but they are kept spotlessly clean and were cleaned daily and checked again by housekeeping in the evening. I was surprised by the negative comments about the gym. Compared to even 5 star hotels, the gym was a shining star. I am an avid gym-goer and used it every day. It was always kept clean, and it was pretty spacious for a hotel gym. It is on 2 levels, with the cardio equipment upstairs and weights downstairs. They also have multiple televisions, water coolers and a fridge with chilled towels that was a very nice touch!

The food at the hotel was more than decent...especially the food at the poolside restaurant. Another nice touch was that we were not obligated to pay an arm and a leg to have breakfast every day...there is a small coffee shop in the hotel called "Poquito to Go" that was open from 7-10:30am where we could get tea, coffee, juices, little sandwiches, muffins, etc. If we wanted tea or coffee during the day, we walked down to the Eden Roc lobby a couple of blocks down which has Starbucks drinks in the lobby bar.

As far as the location, the hotel is located on Collins Avenue at 48th street. South Beach starts at around 23rd street. (Being New Yorkers, we are used to walking, so we walked to South Beach every day which was about 2 miles each way.) The boardwalk starts a few yards down from the hotel on the beach at around 46th or 47th street. We pretty much had to go to South Beach to get supplies like water, snacks, etc. There are no stores within walking distance of the hotel. (I would recommend that you bring whatever you think you will need for the first day such as water, snacks, juice and then put it in the room fridge.) However, you can also take the public bus which stops right outside the hotel. It costs $1.25 or $1.50 if you want to transfer. (You do not have to transfer to get to South Beach.) The front desk staff was very helpful and even told us how to get to Little Havana by public bus. Of course, taxis are also plentiful and always waiting outside the hotel.

The beach was really excellent...white sand, calm swimming surf with some waves. We were glad we stayed in Miami Beach and not South Beach because it was much cleaner and quieter. We much preferred it.

Also, make sure you go online and join the Wyndham by Request Club. We got free local AND long distance calls from our hotel room and some nice welcome drinks and snacks.

I really have nothing negative to say about this hotel. I am picky about cleanliness and it was very clean. The staff was busy but pleasant and helpful. The location is not "in the middle of it all" like you would be in South Beach, but we preferred it that way, and we didn't have a car and never took cabs except to the airport. I enjoyed my stay and would stay here again.

This hotel is definitely getting a bad rap on here. I don't know what other folks are experiencing, but our experience was most positive.

I was concerned, too, because of all the rants that have been written. I was so concerned that I contacted the Wyndham prior to arriving to seek assurance that we were going to be satisfied.

Well, satisfy they did - and then some. The front desk manager personally responded to my email and reassured us that while the hotel is in need of some (upcoming) renovations, it is in no way in such a state as some of these reviews would have you believe.
The rooms are outdated a bit - the tile is old, as are the carpets. The hotel will tell you this, if you ask. I think the rates reflect this. You can get some pretty discounted rates for this property.

Also contrary to some reviews, they DO participate in the ByRequest program (frequent travelers program) and you'll receive your upgrade, welcome drinks, newspapers, etc. Another myth debunked.

The bedding was all fairly new - not stained or old as some have suggested. Actually the beds were very comfortable and the sheets very crisp.

The most noticeable areas in need of improvement are definitely the bathrooms - the grout is stained (clean, but stained) and there is some corrosion on some of the fixtures - but then again, it's 50 years old...so it's in relatively good condition for that age. It wasn't such an issue that we thought to even complain, however. It was as they had informed us.
The elevators were slow at times - and a few didn't always seem to respond to the button requests - I don't know why...but they were generally responsive and not too bad.

As for the purported rudeness, we experienced exactly the opposite - outstanding, friendly, over-the-top service. David at the pool bar stayed open more than 2 hours after close to serve the people who were still having fun...Lillian (?) in the Hibiscus restaurant serving us great fresh squeezed orange juice...Dawkins the bell hop who took us to our room and was just so friendly...Arris who let us park our car in the front for a little while when we just wanted to run in for a few minutes...Estela (?) at the pool who comes around with complimentary apples, orange slices, pina coladas and lots more while you're lounging around the pool. The pool staff does a wonderful job of keeping the pool area clean and neat. Dina (?) was just so nice and friendly while we were down there.
Lastly, Stacey - the front desk manager, was the sweetest of all, responding to our email concerns - calling us personally in our room to make sure everything to our satisfaction - and personally checking us out upon our departure. We couldn't have been more pleased.

The property's location on the beach is perfect. Great sandy beaches and soft sand bars to walk out onto. The boardwalk is just down the beach two doors and it's a beautiful evening stroll. The sand is groomed every morning by a beachcombing bulldozer crew - keeping it nice and trash free.

The food in the hotel was very good. Great buffet breakfeasts and very nice dinners overlooking the pool.

This is not a 5 star hotel - although it will be after the renovations are complete. But it is, in my opinion, worth the rates that they charge. Don't believe the rants - this place is very nice.

I've found in my travels that people will treat you in similar ways that you treat them. Perhaps some of the folks had some bona fide bad experiences, but I would guess that quite a few were being quite demanding of this place and expecting luxuries that they are not able to provide.

I would encourage you to contact the front desk prior to arriving to talk to them about the room and your expectations so that there are no surprises when you arrive.

If I can be of any help, please feel free to contact me.

Bon voyage!

Alberto, Gloria, Deniss and the whole staff were great, helpfull, kind and very friendly. The Hotel has a very good location on Collins Ave, near everthing and a bus stop right in front of it. The hotel is old, but very well taking care, with good maintenance and expecially clean. The room is very comfortable with a excellent King size bed, great nights of sleep, the bathroom with quality amenities, very good shower and spacius. Safe and Wi-Fi included. My housekeer Mrs. Rose was excellent and took very good care of me, according do the managenment, she works in the hotel for 27 years, so you can count and thrust her totally. The concierges Eduardo and Jose are very friendly and helpful, they made the difference. Breakfast is good and the staff there are even better, Mr. Ignacio on the second day knew my preferences. The hotel is located in front of the beach, nice swimming pool and Spa with fitness and saunas. They are renovating and updating the hotel so it will be even better in the near future.I totally recommend this hotel. Thank-you to all the staff, they are a lot more than good professionals, the hotel's staff are marvelous human beings.

Our family stayed Nov. 18 thru the 20th, 2011 and were burglarized/robbed while in our room. We had connecting rooms on the 11th floor and were robbed by a couple while in the adjoining room. One of our family members confronted them and they said they were part of the hotel staff. The thieves stole laptops, cash, cameras, jewelry etc. After the robbery we discovered that the lock to our room door did not work, the phones in the rooms did not work and the room safe was not secured( u can carry it off). The lack of concern or help from the hotel has been a nightmare. It is obvious that this is an inside job. The following night we caught two men trying to break in to another of our family members rooms. We notified security and they did nothing we found one of the thieves in the lobby and had to chase another out the hotel onto collins ave. putting our personal safety in jeopardy. Finally the police arrived and the hotel did not to press charges and let him go. The security director did not even know were the security cameras were located through out the hotel so we could try to identify the thieves. We have tried numerous times to contact the hotels director of operations Mr. Eduardo -- and they can care less. No apologies or attempt to restitute us for the stolen valuables.Obviously this seems to be an ongoing problem at the miami beach resort and spa and the hotel has no concern for the safety of it guests or intent to improve there security policies. I urge all guest who have had this problem to make it public because we are going to make sure the local media and local government officials are aware of the hotels deliberate neglect and lack of security.

Response from Miamifun_9, Manager at Miami Beach Resort and Spa
Responded Dec 19, 2011
Dear CarlosA305, The Miami Beach Resort takes the security and safety of its guests and employees very seriously. For this reason our Resort has a 24 hour security staff as well as state of the art security cameras throughout the facility. The Resort is also an active member of the Hotel Security Advisory Committee sponsored by the local Police. Despite all security measures taken by the hotel and its staff, your claim was denied due to the fact you left all doors to your suite open and your family members allowed strangers in your room who removed personal belongings. Our management team has been in constant contact with you and your family, so we are frankly surprised by your statement that no one has responded to your calls or apologized. Our staff takes exception to your comments as we feel they do not truly reflect our commitment to hospitality. We hope you will consider revising your comments to reflect accurately our staff's strengths and weaknesses.

What a disappointment. I booked a 2 week holiday at the Wyndham Miami Beach & ended up checking out after 1 day. We booked our holiday with Virgin which rated the hotel as a 4 star - perhaps this rating was correct back in the 70's, but certainly has not been reviewed in the last few decades.

We had booked a non smoking room with a beach view on a lower level of the hotel - When we arrived, we were given a room on the top floor (20th floor) which absolutely stunk of smoke. The bathroom was in need of repair - the shower just about worked & there was no bath. We were given a view - but of a building site next door.

We spoke to the hotel management & in their defence they were very apologetic. In fact they offered us the use of one of their suites - unfortunately this was no better - had the same dirty smell - old bed linen & the bedroom door was at least 4 inches from the floor, in fact anyone could have got their arm under the door & opened it whilst we were asleep. We were not the only guests complaining.

In addition to the shabby rooms, the swimming pool was awful. It looked like a council run pool & all the local kids were playing in it amongst all the dust & dirt coming from the building site next door.

To add to our nightmare, the hotel was described as being a short distance from South Beach - I do not consider 40 blocks a short distance! There was nothing in the vicinity & no where to eat except for a 24 hour cafe called Dennys! Great if you love fried fast food - awful if you dont!

We checked out the very next day & had to pay an additional £1500 to stay in a hotel in South beach. I am now trying to get compensation back from our Tour Operator.

Once we moved to the Ritz Carlton South beach - also a 4 star but worthy of 5 we had a fabulous time!

To summarise - if you are expecting a nice 4 star hotel DO NOT stay at the Wyndham Miami Beach - it is a 2 / 3 star at the most!

I am well travelled & have stayed in all sorts of hotels - but have to say that this was one of the worst - The pictures on the hotel website must have been taken when the hotel was first built / renovated - because it doesnt looks anything like that now.

I hope my review makes you think twice about staying here.

The Wyndam took over the Doral in Miami Beach and they really need to update the rooms as well as the facilities. The elevators are painfully slow. The rooms are worn. The windows need to be replaced. It is a small boutique style hotel on the ocean. Beautiful poolside. Cabana crew could use a lesson in hospitality. On the whole it is very average for the area. Great potential. Needs a facelift.

I have just returned from Miami. We stayed at the Wyndham Miami Beach resort. It advertises itself on being a luxury 4 star hotel. Sadly this is not the case. It is probably the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. The staff are rude, we had 2 false fire alarms at night, the rooms are dirty and the walls paper thin. A vacant room next to us- the radio alarm went off at full sound at 2.3-am in the morning- it took three phone calls and over an hour before someone bothered to come to switch it off.

I had read the poor reviews on this site before we went but thought wrongly that it would be ok. If you are thinking about staying here...DO NOT!! Change to the nearby hotel Eden Roc which is recently renovated and very stylish. The best thing that could happen to the Wyndham is for a bulldozer to knock it down....it really is that bad!

We arrived at 9pm for 2 nights & at check-in were required to pay 2 days resort fees, this gave us access to internet, use of pool & a key to use the mini bar in room. We advised the lady at reception that we would not be using the pool or internet or mini bar but we were told resort fees were compulsory even if we did not use the facilities. I felt this very unfair & asked to see the manager (who could not have cared less) she also said it was the resorts policy. To my way of thinking they could have got around this by NOT giving guests the yellow bands which allowed access to pool & NOT give the internet access code to people not requiring internet or the key to mini bar all of which we did not use. This is just a money grabbing exercise & I advise against anyone staying in Miami to avoid this resort like the plague! It is also a very long walk to restaraunts & shops.

Hi, Yes, there is a package charge of $10 each package. Our 24 hr valet parking service is $32 or $45 depending on the size of your vehicle. The closest parking lot is located 7 blocks south of us.

Hello! As we learned, there is really nothing but other hotel restaurants (so there are going to be up-charges just for that). You can find nice little hotel cafes about a 15-20 minute walk north or south on Collins Avenue that may have better prices than the resort. I found that the resort's pool bar and gill prices were reasonable considering the neighboring hotel lunch prices. But for dinner, we always ventured to South Beach in search of a restaurant for less than $100 for a family of four.
