The Ocean Sky Hotel & Resort is lauded for its enviable beachfront location, close to local dining and shopping spots. While amenities like beach access and a resort pool are appreciated, guests are often disappointed by the extra charges for essentials. Opinions on service quality are split, with experiences ranging from commendable to unsatisfactory. Travelers frequently express discontent with the hotel's value, pointing to hidden fees and a disparity between cost and the 4-star experience. Room cleanliness and decor are other areas where the hotel falls short, with numerous guests highlighting the need for updates and more rigorous housekeeping.

All in all, we really liked Ocean Sky. I told the kids before we went that it wasn’t “fancy” like some of the other places we've stayed lately, but everyone was really happy with it, and there were really no complaints (and this is a crowd that are complainers).

• The hotel in general was a little “tired” in terms of décor but nothing crazy. The rooms were fine – clean, AC worked well, beds were comfortable. On two days we had to specifically ask that our room be cleaned even though we had been up and out by 10AM. By 4PM still housekeeping had not been by although we had seen them working on other rooms around ours.
• The pool area was very tight – chairs on top of each other. The beach was really the place to be – super convenient. Stinks to have to pay for chairs, but it was worth it to have a little buffer between you and the next person.
• The hotel restaurant was actually quite good (I had read that it was really bad). It was expensive, though. Lunch on the first day for 6 of us was something like $150 with only two alcoholic drinks. But the food really was not bad at all. The service at the restaurant was very quick, but the wait staff was really unpleasant. (We had the same two people throughout the week). The one thing that was a little sketchy was that they included the tip in the bill but were a little sketchy about it – I often had to ask for an itemized bill when paying by credit card. This was the case at the pool bar also. So I’m sure a lot of people are tipping them double.
• The location is great – lots within walking distance for morning coffee and errands etc. (McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, Winn Dixie, CVS, Wings all within about a 5 minute walk). There’s also a ton of close options for dinner that were excellent.
• They have a cool bus that swings through in the evenings and gives rides to local restaurants. It’s free and they work just for tips. The driver couldn’t have been nicer and it was a fun, open-air alternative to an Uber. We used this service two nights.
• Our main complaint was with the smoking. It was EVERYWHERE. I know this is not the fault of the hotel, but just something that was a bummer – at the pool, the beach, the tiki bar, waiting for Ubers - it seemed that everyone smokes in Fort Lauderdale and there was really no escaping it. Not something we’re used to so it really stood out, especially to the kids.

After our cruise arrived on Superbowl Sunday, Feb 2, 2020 we stayed one day at a lower cost boutique hotel and then 4 nights at Ocean Sky. With time to kill before getting into the boutique hotel, we went to Hardrock Hotel In Hollywood, FL. I got a spa day pass for $150 while my husband played poker. Hardrock hotel rooms on that night were $600. So we didn't stay there! Superbowl Sunday raised hotel prices tremendously. At Ocean Sky we stayed in room 625 and found it clean, comfortable and quiet. TV, microwave, little refrigerator and aircondioner worked well. No plumbing problems or bad odors. Ocean Sky is big enough and small enough. Kind workers. Well laid out. Wish the beach elevator was working. They have valet, but you'll have to be your own bellman and bring back the luggage rack trolly when finished. This is beachfront...really on the beach. Has decent pool and hot tub and tiki bar. Tons of lounge chairs in pool area that over looks the beach at no extra cost. Decent music playing not too loud. Beach chairs and jet skis are for rent. No food ordering options on Ocean Sky's beach, but there is on beach next door at Ocean Manor. Because the reviews were so negative about the Ocean Sky restaurant, we never ate there, but ate at the wonderful Italian restaurant next door at Ocean Manor. Once going into Ocean Manor, I knew we would prefer staying at quiet Ocean Sky. My husband enjoyed visiting different casinos near Ocean Sky; while I loved that there were three Catholic Churches very close offering daily morning Mass. Every morning my DH would drive to McDonald's nearby and get us coffee and breakfast. Ocean Sky has mini golf, a scale to weigh luggage, a store, a real estate office and self service laundry. Ocean sky does not have Salon and Spa. Ocean Manor next door has salon for hair and nails. Ocean Sky was perfect for my husband and me. We plan to escape cold rainy February Texas weather again next year by staying at Ocean Sky.

I had a great, relaxing, and amazing stay at Ocean Sky. The best things to highlight were the location - it is right on the beach and close to shops (Dunkin and Winn Dixie nearby were a lifesaver!). It is a short Uber ride to downtown FLL but I highly recommend taking the water taxi at Bokamper's and riding it downtown. Staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. Couldn't get a late check out but they graciously stored are bags! Waitresses at the restaurant are superb! Cleaning service came every day, and our room was clean for the most part. They did not change our bedspread/sheets every day, and we found some trash that was leftover from the previous guests. But, the beds were amazing! Full beds weren't a problem as they were so comfy. And the balcony with the partial ocean view was gold.

Be aware that yes, there are extra fees. Restaurant is filling but overpriced ($13 for a wrap), renting 2 beach chairs and umbrella sets you back $50, and I do not recommend using the shuttle service unless you are traveling in a large group ($45 for 2 people). The shuttle service driver came on-time, but in an unmarked vehicle. Was not a fan of his erratic driving, and we were astounded when he asked for cash as we assumed it would be charged on our hotel bill. Uber was much cheaper, way more convenient, and so much more friendly and welcoming.

Overall, if you get this hotel for a deal I recommend using it. We paid $200 a night and I wouldn't have paid a dollar over. It's a great stay if your expectations aren't too high, you don't plan on using all the extra fee amenities, and you don't want to be directly downtown but still close enough to visit there once or twice throughout your stay. I had an amazing stay but would not come back again as I would rather be more downtown.

We booked this hotel through Priceline’s “4-Star Hotel Guarantee” due to a last minute change in travel plans. After receiving the hotel information, I looked into reviews and was nervous but hoped for the best. Upon arrival, we were impressed by the updated main floor and friendly staff. Once we proceeded to our room, we found many of the claims in other reviews to be true. The hallways and rooms smelled musty and everything seemed dingy and very warn. The tap water had a yellow tone. Our sheets were pilly did not appear to have been washed as evidenced by the residue/stain on our sheets (see attached photo). We used the hot tub briefly, but it was very dirty, over-chlorinated, and only lukewarm. The wifi worked on the main level, but once we returned to our room for the night we had no connection. I fully understand it is difficult to maintain a perfectly clean outdoor hot tub, but the amount of debris floating in it (including a used bandage) did not seem acceptable. I cannot speak to the restaurant as we did not chose to dine there due to an overpriced, hodgepodge menu. If you stay here, I highly recommend the 15 minute, very safe walk to Billy Jacks Shack- amazing and high quality food, drinks, and service. There is a McDonalds, Winn Dixie, CVS, and Dunkin’ Donuts in very close proximity. Please note I am typically perfectly satisfied with hotels such as Holiday Inn Express and Wyndham Gardens that are not upscale hotels, yet I would still recommend avoiding this hotel. There is a lot of potential, but based on our experience, you can get a cleaner, higher quality hotel for less cost.

I’ll start by saying I have stayed in many hotels and have never felt the need to leave a review. My family just return from a 4 night stay at Ocean Sky and we were extremely disappointed and regret our decision to book with this hotel. From the beginning we ran into continuous issues. Upon checking in and getting settled into our room, we noticed a large amount of mold above the bed. We were offered no apology, only the option to switch rooms or have them clean it. Since we have two small children we decided to switch rooms. We had to pack up and move everything into the other room only to find more mold but it was at least a small spot and not above the bed. The new room was a conjoining room so you could hear everything happening next door. There was a family in that room that must have checked out and a bunch of young rowdy kids checked in the next day (note, they advertise a 72 hour vacancy between stays due to covid). They were blasting music and being very inappropriate to have two small kids around, not to mention my kids couldn’t sleep because of the music. We decided to see if we could switch rooms again to avoid confrontation and not be completely miserable the rest of our stay. We were offered a new room which meant packing up and moving once again. During the room switch, the elevator malfunctioned and my 3 year old got scared and stepped back into the elevator instead of out and he was stuck inside by himself. They were not able to get the doors open more than a few inches and had to call the fire department to open the elevator. My son was screaming and shaking and the hotel staff (other than one gentleman that was helping us try to keep him calm) could not have cared less. My son was trapped on the elevator alone screaming for 30-45 minutes and is not terrified of elevators. Once again no apology and none of the staff even bothered to ask if he was ok. We were finally content with our new room until the room kept filling up with the smell of marijuana from the people next door but we decided to ride it out until check out. The hotel only offers valet parking and we watched the valet staff maneuver our car very carelessly. With all of our troubles we were only offered a refund on parking and late check in which I’ll be shocked if we ever see the refund based on other reviews. Overall the location is nice since it’s right on the beach but you have to rent chairs and we paid $55 per day to rent two chairs and an umbrella. If you are traveling with kids I would strongly recommend avoiding this hotel, we could have found something much better for the price we paid.

My husband and I just returned from our second stay at Ocean Sky. Last year we went to celebrate his birthday and had such a great visit so we decided to return. We travel often throughout the year and look for comfort and affordability and this hotel delivers! It’s located steps away from the ocean. Is it a 5 star resort- No, but it does offer clean and comfortable accommodations. I found all staff members to be very friendly and helpful. We arrived a couple of hours before check in time, but we were able to get our room because they just had one that became available on the 9th floor. Our key stopped working one night and they sent maintenance up to fix the problem right away! Housekeeping came to our room daily to make the bed, take out trash, clean bathrooms and provide fresh towels. We weren’t expecting this as we have stayed at other resorts in the last year and they only offer service every other day. There were complaints about the food but you do have options to walk right across the street - down maybe a block or 2 to some great restaurants! We had breakfast at the deli most days, Dunkin Donuts, grocery store, cvs and a great Greek restaurant are all within walking distance. We rented the pool cabana and the beach umbrella and chairs on different days and we’re happy that they offer restaurant/bar service right there on the beach! A family came one day and set up a tent next to our beach chairs and offered us drinks from their cooler. The resort wasn’t really crowded so we never had much of a wait for anything and the pool wasn’t overcrowded which I can see this being a problem during more active seasons. The ocean is bad with seaweed this time of year and it is not cleared every day, so we only got to enjoy the ocean on one day of our stay. Overall we had a great stay and can’t wait to visit again next year!

Recently stayed for funeral service. Rooms on discounted multi room booking $300 per night, parking $20 per day (self park a block away was also $20 per day). The valet service was excellent. Front desk and management disappointing. Rooms were supposed to be 2 queen beds; they were full size beds. Rooms were extremely small. Bathroom was tight. Shower was not big enough to turn around in. Toilet abutting shower door. Toilet reminded me of a pump lever marine head. Sink drain was slow. Balcony had a peek a boo view of ocean. Primary view was parking lot and hotel bedrooms next door. We paid for a catered banquet. The food was inedible and the closest bathrooms were back in the lobby. I grew up in this city. There are at least 50 hotels on the beach with better amenities. The only way I would go back ims if it were my funeral

After reading a lot of the other reviews for this place, we decided to go in with low expectations. We encountered only helpful and pleasant staff, and our room was very quiet, although there was no one staying next door. Our friends who stayed across the hall said they were kept up by the people in the room adjacent to theirs who just had their tv on throughout the night. This was even when using a fan, ear plugs, and one was wearing a C-Pap!

There were a number of restaurants within walking distance (a mile), so that was a plus since we didn't rent a car.

We had the king suite facing the ocean, Rm. 831.. The balcony actually faces the air conditioning units for the Ocean Manor next door, and they are noisy. There is a front view of the ocean from the balcony, but being completely open meant noise and lots of wind. You could also see all the people behind you on their balconies. The wind at that height and the air conditioner noise prevented us from enjoying much time out there.

There is a large window in the room that faces the ocean, but it is in desperate need of cleaning. So we had a murky view of the sunrise each morning.

The beach was beautiful, the hot tub and pool were lovely. No one was eating in the hotel restaurants at all. My friends ordered a sandwich for lunch one of the days on the beach, and it was horrible. They described it as old meat on Wonder Bread!

Bottom line: It's great if you just want to be on the beach and don't care about your accommodations.

the hotel was not great from start to finish, you pull in and there is a lot of activity but very distracted staff which slows everything. they did not honor our request before booking or inform us of relevant information about room once we got there. the lobby is decent but a little all over the place in presentation. the first room we got was a little moldy and smelly and also very old looking and not a great balcony with hard to open and close doors. sheets seemed clean though, but didn’t have black light. they tell you not to turn off air conditioning because they are trying to cover smell and combat the mold and windows don’t open. no screen on door either so if you leave door open all the nats will fly in and there are a lot in the area. view was ok, obviously higher floors are better. room deck very noisy. we switched rooms and it was easy enough but second room was worse. The second room didn’t have mold but was really smelly from cleaning fluids and we could hardly breath. same issues with deck and door and style and keeping of room. went down to deck area which had parts being repainted which is fine and view was nice and plenty of room to sit. didn’t try the food but wasn’t going to take chances judging by what i had already seen. beach was nice enough and clean with a nice sunset, but lots of bugs. we left as soon as we could find another hotel. parking also not free and going up to 20 a day at end of month.

Great location. Average hotel. Check-in doesn't allow you to get to the room a minute earlier, than 3 pm unless you pay an extra $50. It looks like extortion. I've never seen it in other hotels. On the day of check-out, I asked the front desk clerk to allow us to stay later and pay $50, but she told me that they don't allow it at all. So why did they request to pay it when we checked in? There is no buffet option for breakfast, only a la carte, so it's extremely expensive for nothing special. Omlet and coffee are almost $30 per person. Rental chairs and an umbrella on the hotel's private beach cost $60 per day for 2 people. Next door hotel charges $30 for the same service. Corporate greed! 3 stars hotel has to come down with the prices and appaling check-in policy.
