Nestled in a picturesque location, the Ojai Valley Inn is often lauded for its tranquil and luxurious atmosphere, complete with cozy fireplaces and stunning views, although some guests have noted noise issues. While the rooms boast modern amenities and elegant decor, opinions are mixed regarding noise, temperature control, and service consistency. Despite some travelers deeming the pricing steep without commensurate value, the hotel's location is widely celebrated as perfect for a vacation getaway. Service quality receives varied feedback, but the resort's amenities, including the spa and golf facilities, are generally acclaimed. The hotel maintains high cleanliness standards across rooms and grounds.

My husband and I stayed at the Ojai Valley Inn Feb. 2020 on a Wednesday and Thursday night. We are retired and love traveling around to enjoy nature, walking, swimming, reading, peace and serenity. We specifically took this mid week excursion to avoid the construction around our home, caused by a fire that took many neighboring homes 2 years ago. We also thought we could avoid the LA weekend crowds by going mid-week.
Well, we went from 1 construction zone to another. Our first morning at Ojai, we woke to the sound of a Mayflower truck the size of a moving van directly below our room which had its motor running the entire day. It appeared to be loading and/or unloading laundry. We only stayed 2 nights but that entire full day, we literally put ear plugs in our ears because there was the sound of jack hammering right outside the door of our room. So we walked to the Indigo (adult) pool (which played loud electronic music) but could hear the roofers on the Wallace Nef building. We then walked down to the spa where they offered to give us a different room only to see and hear a giant crane blasting loudly in that entire area. This construction went on until 5:30 when it became dark. Even without the construction, there is a lot of commotion of golf carts, shuttle and service carts whizizing by, here and there, constantly.
That being said, other than the noise pollution factor, everything else about this resort was exceptional. The service was impeccable-from the woman who took my reservation over the phone, check-in, bell service, and finally, room service meal staff. All employees were very eager to do the best they could (in their power) to make our experience the best it could be.
Also, I must add, the location of this hotel is in a very picturesque setting and it would be very lovely to just enjoy the view. All the upgrades at the various pools (we've been coming since 1979 and have seen LOTS of changes) are truly beautiful, tasteful and luxurious. The food was mediocre throughout the resort.
If you are looking to get away to a hustling, bustling, crowded, active, but beautiful place, with great service, this will be the perfect spot for you. But, if you want to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet, you might look elsewhere.

Hello and thank you very much for reviewing your recent stay. We are pleased to know that you received impeccable service from all of our staff, and appreciate your kind words about the upgrades we have made to our pools. We are disappointed to hear that the current construction projects to the Wallace Neff Estate Rooms and Spa Village disrupted the tranquility of your stay, and are working swiftly to get these areas updated with minimal impact to our guests. Both projects are scheduled to be completed by the middle/end of March. Your comments are very important to us as they are the best indicator of our performance, and we have shared them with our leadership team for consideration. With that said, we greatly appreciate your loyalty as return guests and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for a relaxing stay in the near future. Thank you again.

We spent Halloween at Ojai Valley Inn and it was a wonderful time.

Check in: check in was a breeze. It took us no time to get our key cards and be on our way.

Room: We stayed in the Arbolada building on the first floor. We had a spacious double bed room that had a view of the golf course. Although I think every room has a view of the golf course. The bathroom was very spacious. The room was clean and very comfortable. The only problem we had was the guest staying above us that would stomp in the room.

Food: We ate at the Oak, Jimmy's Pub, and Libbeys over the weekend. Food was ok and expensive for what it was. However, the service we received from the staff was outstanding.

Pool: We reserved a cabana at the Pixie Pool and it was well worth it. The cabana included waters, Gatorade, a fruit platter, a veggie platter, and sunscreen. The pool was busy this weekend so it was nice to have a place to spread out with the kids. The pool was 4.5 feet at its deepest. Next to the pool was a kiddie pool that may have been 6 inches deep.

Activities: Since it was Halloween weekend, the hotel offered a hay ride from the lobby down to it's artist cottage. My kids loved it. Once at the artist cottage, they painted pumkins under a gorgeous tree. The pumpkins were set on a table to dry and made available to pick up the next day.

Overall, being here over the weekend was relaxing and beautiful. Being surrounded by large oak trees, a well taken care of golf course, and mountains made for a great weekend. So much so that we'll be back.

It was my first time visit and LOVED it, can't wait to go back!!!

It is the best 5 star resort in the US given the level of service, friendliness of staff members, beautiful surroundings, cleanliness , attention to detail, attentiveness and amazingly manicured property all the way around.

We were there to celebrate my birthday (Mother, daughter trip) and it was the best birthday gift ever!! I loved every aspects of our stay. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived at the property and the quick check-in at the reception. We stayed at Shangri-La (very fitting) and our room was so beautiful, very conveniently located, spacious, luxurious with ample terrace space overlooking the valley with top of the line amenities (i.e.) beautifully designed bathroom with stylish large tub, plush towels, super soft & comfortable sheets and bed, illy coffee, OVI lotion, etc. My Mom LOVED the rope so much, bought it for her and she has been using it since then.

We explored all restaurants on property and each restaurant provided awesome outdoor dining options with comfort of outdoor lamps . I was there with my Mom and they were all very accommodating with a la carte options. At Olivella restaurant, we started our dinner at a terrace with mountain view during sunset (famous pink/orange Ojai sunset, absolutely gorgeous!!!) then we moved inside after our second course. Servers were very accommodating. Olivella restaurant has one of the most beautifully designed layout, ambiance and finest decor I've ever seen and restaurant has flexible menu options and very accommodating services.

We played golf on the property and loved the layout of the course and beautiful valley view on every hole. The course was very well maintained..

Pool staffs at the Indigo pool were fantastic, aim to set us up in a comfortable spot and adjusted the umbrella to give us maximum shade as we requested. We were there briefly but loved being there, it was so relaxing.

Since it's a large property, we used shuttle service to get to the golf course, pool, restaurants etc and every ride was enjoyable.

I'm from the East Coast and it was a long travel but it was well worth it and can't wait to go back to this beautiful heaven on earth. Ojai Valley Inn is an example of perfection and epitome of how the 5 star resort should be operated.

Thank you everyone at OVI!!!

I have visited Ojai Valley Inn on and off for over 20 years, it is truly an amazing place to escape to. It is a vast property that provides enough options of things to do and places to eat, that you will never have to leave property.

With the stress of being on Covid lockdown, while balancing the concerns of traveling at the age of 55, I decided to go on a mini couples vacation. We checked into an amazing room in the main lobby (room 133), the room is close to everything. After setting up, I noticed some food left behind from the last guest. In a normal world, I would have picked it up and threw it away and enjoyed my vacation. In a Covid world, I became concerned. The front desk person sent someone to clean the room, and they waived my resort fee, yet the thought of escaping the outside stresses of the world was lost as I was concerned if I the room was cleaned to a level that is needed to protect us all. I hope the hotel is taking this seriously, as your guests are entrusting you during these challenging times.

I have stayed here quite a few times and was looking forward to a chilled out break in these crazy times. It was ok to be honest. Room service was cold and it’s ridiculously expensive - $12 for a very small portion of french fries and they were cold. The food at the pool is much much better than room service. The couple in the room above us were having the mother of all arguments for hours straight until 1am. The banging and crashing and shouting was awful. We fled the room and the security staff barely intervened. The couple denied it but this could have been avoided completely. Only 150 rooms are to be occupied in the whole resort but we were put directly under them. Surely with all the space and room availability we could have been spread out? We were moved to a different room and there were face masks from the previous guests on the floor. Not really cool in this current environment.

Paid about 1,000/night for a room at this 5 star hotel. Emailed concierge a few weeks before arrival. We were told hotel had complimentary bikes with child attachments. Upon arrival we tried to rent the bikes with child attachments and were told they temporarily did not have the attachments, but they would have them again by next week. This is not helpful considering we won't be here next week.
Also, concierge did not mention anything to us about the Halloween drive thru even held on property, so we didn't buy tickets in advance. Upon arrival we noticed this cute event so we tried to buy tickets and were told it was sold out.
Additionally, at 8:30 am a hotel representative came to our door and asked us to be quiet as people are still sleeping and someone apparently reported hearing "smashing glass" coming from our room. I have two small children who were sitting on the balcony of our room waving and saying "hello!" To people passing on the pathway beneath our balcony. I find it obnoxious that we were essentially asked to bring our children in from the patio while they were having innocent fun greeting people (they are only 1 and 3 years old). This event made me feel as though we couldn't even be in our room and it made me feel our children were unwelcome.
Another small note- when we arrived at the pool there was nobody to assist with the towels/chairs. This is not a huge deal but when carrying bags and kids it is helpful and definitely something one can usually expect from a 5 star hotel.
Lastly, we came to ojai valley inn to celebrate our wedding anniversary, which I communicated when booking our room. There was no mention of congratulations or celebration from the hotel, which again is not a huge deal but typically nice hotels who want their guests to feel special will go the extra mile to offer compliments/congrats.

Overall we were disappointed with our stay.

After a long year of lockdown, and the relief of getting a vaccine, my wife and I decided to use some of the many Chase points we've accumulated to have a quick two night babymoon up at the Ojai Valley Inn. We booked one of the King Vista rooms and while the building itself seemed to be one of the older ones on property, the room itself was very nicely renovated and had a huge patio with a stunning view. Unfortunately, and likely given the age of that building, there were some plumbing issues that arose on night two of our stay. The timing was not great since we were both exhausted and really unable to move rooms, but the staff were incredibly kind and went above and beyond to take care of us. I particularly want to note the graciousness of the front desk staff, including Mary Chehada, the night front desk supervisor on evening of the 3/27 whose name regretfully escapes me, Elizabeth and Johnathan. Incidents like this are always going to arise when you travel, so it really comes down to how well the staff is capable of managing these types of situations and we came way very happy with how they did. All in all, this was a fantastic stay and we were pleased to note the many improvements and renovations to the property as a whole. We also noted that the food served poolside at the Indigo Pool and at The Oak restaurant was significantly improved from our last visit. Very much looking forward to coming back.

Entering the property past a security check one is impressed by its size, the beauty of the ground and their upkeep. But the portico arrival area was a zoo. We handed the car for valet parking and the baggage to a front man who told us that the baggage would be delivered to the room as soon as it was assigned. He was professionally and hospitably friendly, as was the case with all other we met during our stay - with the exception of a front desk clerk. Arriving at about 3:20 were were icily advised that checkin was 4 p.m but that a room could not be even guaranteed for then as that was the start of checkin. We suggested that she might want to consider the early check in privilege of an AmEx platinum reservation. So, around 3:30 a text message was received saying that key we had Ben given had been activated to a William Neff Estate Room. We waited in the room for the promised delivery of the baggage, but that was not to be. It took two calls to the bell captain and guest services, and a visit by one of us to the bell stand, before the baggage arrived at about 4:40. Zachary was most apologetic and really helped us get the room set up. The room was perfectly clean, later the bed proved to be exceptionally comfortable and the room to be really quiet. But the room was missing a point or two on a 10 scale. There was only one lounge chair and we were told by housekeeping that a second lounge chair could not be provided (there was a hard desk chair); the reading lamp by the lounge chair did not work and we learned from the engineer that it never had worked as there was no power socket to connect to until he provided a five foot extension cord laying on the floor; there were power plugs at the desk and bedside table but no low voltage outlets for charging cellphones and IPads; and, there were no flat surfaces on which to place toiletries and the like in the otherwise well equipped bathroom. The room was equipped with a tablet that provided a very useful and powerful set of tools to manage and enhance one’s stay. Surprisingly, neither that tablet no the in room large flat screen television provided access to the room folio - making it impossible to check from time to time the amounts charged so that any discrepancy could be timely addressed. Like others, we were impressed by the property and its staff but wished that we had not experienced these issues reducing what otherwise could have been a 10 rating.

This hotel was absolutely beautiful. We loved the natural surroundings and the food was excellent, as was the yoga and the craft room. But there were several hiccups which I view in light of the very high price for staying here.

It seems like the employees are trained to tell people what they want to hear rather than accurate information. When we checked in, we asked how much valet parking is and we were told it's included in the room rate. Yet when we checked out we were charged $40/day for parking. (This always makes me mad when you are a hotel that you need to drive to. Everyone drives here which makes the $40 fee basically a hidden fee.) The hotel is one mile from town but they do not provide transportation service. When we checked in multiple people told us that the hotel uses a taxi service to get into town. So we had some drinks, got dressed, and went to the valet to request a taxi. Turns out the "service" is one guy who had recently had appendicitis so no taxis were available. (Lyft/Uber dont run out here.)
When I checked in I also asked whether they run out of bikes during the day and the front desk assured me no, they have plenty. So we wandered over to the bike rental at noon where we found zero bikes. The rental guy told me they run out of bikes all the time and we needed to come earlier in the day, and no they do not run a waiting list or text you when things are available. Finally we called the Oak to make a reservation and I asked for a table with a view of the sunset, and I was told "all our seats are outside and they all have the same view." We then showed up and realized that the Oak does not have a sunset view. If they had told me this we would have booked at the other restaurant, but at this point it was too late to get a reservation. (The food at the Oak was excellent but the waiter was very focused on selling upcharges and we did not receive more bread after multiple requests.) Why not answer questions honestly and with full information?

Finally, it was just too crowded and they are not prepared for it. As mentioned above, they run out of bikes every day. When we went to the main adult pool there was no seating available. The hotel completely ran out of newspapers. All of this is particularly galling considering that on top of their $$$ room rates they charge a $40/day "resort" fee which they list as tied to the pool, newspapers and bikes. (Does not include parking though! See above.) Waits for fire pits can take up to an hour.

All in all, we had a lovely time and had great food. But I would not come back unless I win the lottery and it is at a non-peak time since the hotel cannot handle the amount of guests that it will allow to check in.

We stayed three nights. There was an initial snafu with the room, but we changed rooms after the first night and it was fine. The hotel made the change painless. I’d not been to the hotel in decades, and it’s certainly different from what I remember. But, it is absolutely lovely, with surrounding golf courses and distant mountains. The rooms we had were mini fireplace suite and fireplace shangri la. Each was large and terrific. The latter was where we ended up and it had a splendid view of the golf course. Bedding was by Frette and was luxurious, and towels were fluffy and like new. Amenities were superb, especially the orange soap shaped like a half orange. The balcony was spacious with two chairs and a side table. The gas fireplace was cozy. Bathrooms were excellent with Spanish tiles. The separate shower had great water pressure. There is an illy espresso machine. The minibar was empty because of covid, and that was fine. Lighting is very good, and there are enough outlets. There was plenty of room to unpack. There were two sitting areas. Breakfasts were in the Oak, and were very good. I wrote this up separately, along with a dinner review. We also ate at the Farmhouse, which had Christopher Kostow from Meadowood in residence. Dinner there was multi course with wine pairings and was nothing short of spectacular in all respects. The service team was partly from the Inn and partly from Meadowood. They were brilliant and added to the experience greatly. Speaking of service, the Inn was notable in this regard. Everyone was outgoing, friendly, professional, and genuinely concerned about our comfort and experience. We had a marvelous time at the Inn and are very eager to return soon. Signs about masks were everywhere and were respected for the most part. The Inn thus felt safe.
