The W Hollywood garners praise for its stellar location, mere steps from the allure of Hollywood Boulevard. While the hotel's atmosphere is deemed stylish and vibrant, especially with its chic rooftop pool, some guests have voiced concerns about room maintenance and cleanliness. The service is often described as friendly and attentive, although there are instances of frustration over delays and unresponsiveness. Despite the commendable amenities and aesthetics, a number of guests question the value for money, particularly during the ongoing renovations.

New York City, New York
I happened to get lucky regarding my timing when coming to LA. I arrived about a week before things got real bad for California with Covid back towards the end of June and early July. Coming from NYC where things were real bad in March and April, it was a relief to get away for a week or so. Having stayed at other W hotel locations around the world, I'm a fan of the brand. As for this location, it was relatively empty throughout the day at least when I was there. We went up to the pool a few days and there were no more than 5 other people up there. When it comes to safety and cleaning precautions, 95% of people in the hotel were wearing masks and the hotel for the most part looked clean. Some sections of the hotel were closed in an effort to limit gatherings. The only knock I have on this location, and it's something I've seen in other reviews as well. It seems that this location has become a hangout or meetup for wannabe Instagram influencers and recording artists. It seemed like every night like clockwork around 11:30pm/Midnight, cars would pull up in front of the hotel and people would pile out to have a party. I would go out occasionally at night to smoke a cigarette, and without fail dozens of people were out there at all hours until the morning. I do understand that this W location has residences attached to the hotel, so it is possible that these people live there, but it's most likely that they don't. Other than that issue, my stay at the W Hollywood was a pleasant one and I would definitely return.

Perfect location in the heart of the touristy area. Nice pool but private parties make it inaccessible at times. Restaurant has too few servers which means slow service and long waits for tables during breakfast when the hotel is crowded. The hotel definitely needs an update. There are no USB chargers in room. WiFi requires daily log in and isn’t free unless you are a W member.

I stayed at the W Hollywood for nine nights. The hotel is expensive, and I considered cheaper and more costly alternatives.

You can get to West Hollywood quickly by bus and scooter, and the hotel is conveniently located above the Vine metro station, where you can get into downtown and to Santa Monica. You can hike up to the Griffith Observatory in the local area, about an hour from the hotel on foot.

The lobby is outstanding, with lots of relaxing seating options. The room was brilliant and decidedly spacious, with a thoroughly comfortable mattress. There is a large desk to do work and eat food; I regularly requested plates and cutlery to eat delivery food in the hotel; in some instances, it came quickly, and in others, I had to phone several times for this. The hotel should address minor damage to the leather furnishings, such as scratches on the fridge cabinet. The fridge and cabinet are stocked with a considerable quantity of heavily overpriced goods costing several times what they cost in the supermarket. I asked staff to remove them so I could put my provisions in; a staff member told me that there is typically a fee for this but that they will waive it on this occasion. How generous of them!

The shower room is spacious, but the bathroom products, although fantastic, are small and not replaced by cleaners as a matter of routine; I had to telephone the reception for additional shampoo and shower gel on several occasions. The shower head is fixed, and the water pressure is relatively low.

My two main gripes are the television and the view; my view was of a wall about 10 m from the window. The selection of television channels is abysmal. All channels are from the US, and there isn't even a single channel in Spanish. W Hollywood is the only hotel I've been to abroad without foreign channels.

Unfortunately, the hotel entrance, which leads to the Vine metro station, involves noticing some incredibly crude and objectionable behaviour. I saw adult men urinating and not being discreet about it metres from the entrance. There are many rough sleepers metres from the hotel entrance, which is sad and depressing. In one instance, I was dangerously threatened by a man that hassled me for twenty dollars as soon as I left the hotel entrance and walked down to the metro station; he was aggressive, and I was lucky that an altercation did not ensue.

I spent my last afternoon by the hotel rooftop pool; this was the only time I purchased food at the hotel, and it was terrific, albeit overpriced. The pool is tiny, but there are stunning views of downtown, about 10 km from the hotel.

When checking out, I rushed as I had to catch my return flight, so I quickly paid my bill by card. I realised I had a spare $34 in cash, which is useless to me at home. I asked a staff member if she would accept this cash and credit my card with the same amount. She said yes. This $34 has still not appeared on my card. I emailed the hotel not once, not twice, but three times until I got a response. The hotel now continues to ignore my request for these funds to be credited to my card. It has been four weeks since I checked out, and I continue waiting for this money. This is peculiar customer service for a Marriot hotel.

As a Marriott Ambassador Elite member - this hotel is beyond a makeover, it’s worn down and tired... Everywhere we went, it smelled like skunk - pot smoking throughout everyplace we walked, even the hallways. The room had a plastic bag over the smoke detector, I assume the hotel management was ok with accommodating pot for everyone... I felt like a third world accommodation. Marriott should revoke the brand from this flop house. The only positive note pertained to the staff, very friendly and nice considering the COVID trauma.

As a loyal Bon Voy member, I try to stay at Marriott hotels were possible. This stay, has me questioning my loyalty. The location is great and the hotel itself is amazing. Very hip with a cool vibe, and amazingly decorated. My issues was the service and the housekeeping. Due to an early morning meeting the night after I arrived, I inquired about a complimentary upgrade to something a little larger were I could hold the meeting. After being laughed at by the front desk clerk, I was offered a room of, in his words "the exact same size" for $50 a night additional, or if I wanted something a little larger it would be $250. I didn't expect anything for free, or I didn't feel entitled to anything, but to be laughed at for asking, and then offer an upgrade to what would amount to $1000 for my 4 night stay, was not welcomed. I would have been happy, with "sorry, we don't have anything". When I politely declined the offer, the front desk clerk said "well I'm sure you didn't expect something for free did you?". Again, not necessary.

Our room was great and well appointed. The view was terrible, but I wasn't there for the view. The next day we left early and ensured we removed the Do Not Disturb sign from the door and left. When we returned later that night (11pm), our room hadn't been made up. We called down and was told there was nothing they could do now - we didn't expect the room to be made up at that time of night, but would have appreciated towels, but we were told it would be at least an hour to get some.
The next day the room was made up - or should I say the bed was made and we had towels. They didn't remove or replace the dirty glasses, including two wine glasses which we had to wash by hand ourselves later that night. During our stay, our garbage in the main room or bathroom were never emptied nor was our ice bucket.
I never expected special treatment or anything for free - I did ask for an upgrade, as usually this request does get accommodated, but I always understand when its not possible. However, the housekeeping and cleanliness is definitely not acceptable. This is an expensive hotel and I would have expected a higher standard in this area, but it was not to be.

As much as I liked the location and enjoyed the physical hotel itself, I don't think I would sty here again.

Came here for my birthday because I was told over the phone their pool closes at 11pm and was for hotel guests only. When we arrived there were tons of people in the lobby obviously not only hotel guests coming to and from the pool... to the point the pool was "at capacity" and the elevator wouldn't even bring you to the floor the pool was on. Many people not wearing masks. Then the pool closes at 7pm. Upon entering the room there was someone's leftover seafood left in the mini fridge which probably accounted for the smell in the room. Manager or hotel clerk couldn't refund for the stay only changed reservation from 2 nights to 1. Wouldn't come here again, should have found a quieter more relaxing hotel.

Update: We were able to enjoy the pool for following day (Monday). It was quiet and relaxing but I would not recommend trying to use the pool on the weekend.

Update again: Watch your hotel receipts. They charged me a fee of $54.45 for "Wheels" which apparently is for valet services? I DID NOT use valet or any sort of hotel parking during my stay.

W Hotel is conveniently located close to Hollywood so there is no shortage of things to see and do. There are multiple bars and restaurants on-site and a very chill rooftop deck and pool with a fun bartender to take good care of you.

The staff was terrific! When we had a special request, housekeeping was very responsive and accommodating. The rooms were modern and beautifully designed.

I am already looking forward to my next stay!

I was a tad hesitant about staying here after reading some of the reviews. From check in to check out, I had a very enjoyable stay. All Staff observed COVID-19 protocols. Masks, plexiglass and numerous hand sanitizer stations were all over the hotel. The gym (as well all areas of the hotel ) was spotlessly clean and proof of vaccination was required to use the facilities. That was impressive. Housekeeping was was prompt and provided on a daily basis. Don't miss Delphine at the W Hollywood Hotel, the food was excellent. There were some areas of the hotel that need attention. Like other reviews have mentioned, the carpets and soft furnishings in the rooms are in need of repair or replacement. My carpet had numerous large stains and the furniture was badly scuffed. The water pressure in the shower is fair to poor. The lighting in the room was great and there were numerous 3 prong plugs to satisfy any electronics geek. Yes the a/c was a tad noisy but functioned well. The Pantages is directly across the street and there are numerous retail and restaurant offerings nearby. One word of caution, the Hollywood and Vine metro station is adjacent to the hotel, which is not in the greatest area of town. Although the Staff is superb, and this was a very good place to stay, they need to have a noticeable security presence at the rear entrance and exit of the hotel to ensure the safety of their guests.

Lindsey W wrote a review Oct 2021
We have several reasons that we would never stay or recommend a W hotel to anyone. The first being that we were locked out of our room for hours on a Friday evening. We were told by the front desk to enjoy a beverage in the lobby and we would be credited $40 to compensate. That never happened. We sat for hours and ended up missing our dinner reservations and almost missing Hamilton at the theatre. This was just the start to our billing problems and disappointment.

The next morning, I realized that were charged several different amounts in the total of $3500 usd for a $1300 stay. When I asked about the charges, the only explanation I was given was it was for incidentals. $2200 for incidentals?!?! Our incidentals were a total of $100 for the entire stay. $90 of which were supposed to be covered by a $50 credit from the room package and $40 from the front desk for our one drink we were given. When I conveyed how disappointed and frankly upset I was at these charges that were already posted on my credit card mid-stay, I was not given an explanation but told they would make the rest of our stay special to make up for it. This did not happen. We received absolutely nothing, not even an apology at checkout. It took 5 business days to receive refunds and we never did receive the $40 credit. This was stressful when we were supposed to be enjoying our vacation and we missed out on a dinner experience that we had booked a month in advance.

As for our room, it was clean and spacious but if looked into a concrete wall. We couldn’t see the sky at all and couldn’t tel that we were in LA. I couldn’t wait to check out of this hotel and will surly never stay again.

Meh. The lobby looks amazing but the rooms are worn down, furniture is scuffed and worn looking. Carpet has stains. The bathroom wasn’t cleaned, had to wipe the bathroom counters and tons of dirt was on them. First night they cleaned our room, 2nd night they didn’t clean, didn’t replenish towels and when we called front desk they didn’t know why it wasn’t cleaned. Also we got a room facing Hollywood Blvd on the 9th floor and was awoken around 5am in the morning by screaming homeless people. Definitely wouldn’t stay here again. Last time I was in Hollywood I stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel and it was much cleaner and nicer for the same price.
