After finishing 3 days at Disneyland I figured spending a couple days relaxing near the beach was in store. I found Carlsbad suites on hotels.com with a decent rating and even better price. I was expecting some remodeling after reading reviews and the paint on the hallway doesn’t really affect my stay. How long are you in the hall anyhow? The room itself is decent. Full size fridge is nice and having a way to heat up food is also nice. We decided to go to the grocery store and get some jimmy dean breakfast bowls for our second morning breakfast because those were better than the breakfast offered. Just not many options. The coffee is also gross, there is a Starbucks or local coffee shop close by. Noise. If you are a light sleeper or sensitive to noise spend the extra money for a different hotel. The rooms have pocket doors so you can hear the people above you sliding their door every time (we might have had kids above us playing with it because it seemed excessive). The train goes by all night long. I didn’t have a lot of traffic noise, but we were on the train side of the hotel. All in all it’s still a decent room for the price and location. There is plenty of parking and if you like cereal for breakfast they’ve got you covered!

We stayed in this hotel several times while waiting for our house to be ready. It's so close to shopping, beaches, and dining. The rooms have a full size refrigerator with a two-burner stove. There is also a DVD player. The staff is amazing and there is an African American gentleman who works the breakfast who deserves high praise for his kindness, helpfulness, and overall positive attitude. The breakfast is your usual continental breakfast but there is no pancake/waffle maker. The hotel appears to be undergoing some remodeling and there is an odd smell in some of the hallways. It is a no smoking hotel but all the smokers stand right outside the front and side doors so either way you have to walk through it. We did have to go upstairs to address the noise in the room above us but that was the only major problem. I would stay here again.

Do not stay here if you are looking for a breakfast that will atleast fill you partially. The breakfast at this hotel is very very minimal. A tiny bowl of fresh fruit, some cereal, bread, fake egg patty things and sausage. The sausage tasted horribly. There was one gentleman working the breakfast area and he was trying his hardest to stock up what there was and was very friendly, however there needs to be more food options, and with how crowded the breakfast area was he needs more help. As soon as he would fill up the bread to toast it was gone within a few minutes. The only reason I gave the hotel 3 stars was because the rooms are nice with a mini kitchenette, full size fridge, convection oven and 2 burner stove. However be warned that if you have neighbors cooking you will smell it throughout the hallways and in your room. Our room and hallway smelled like fish!! The nighttime reception was pretty nonexistent. There was some wine and beer which was nice, some pita, hummus, small cheese cubes and crackers. I must say the cookies that were at the front desk in the evening were delicious!

On the website, this hotel appeared to be fine. There were only a few pictures, but with a review rating of 4.6 we thought it was a safe bet. Nowhere did the website state that the hotel was sandwiched between the freeway and the train tracks and to expect traffic noise and trains running all night long. Nowhere did it state that the hotel was being renovated and had serious deferred maintenance. The hallway walls had huge white spots throughout that needed painting, and hallway carpet was absolutely filthy.

We arrived late and very tired. The first room smelled bad and felt as if the train was coming through. We changed to the freeway side. Second room smelled better but traffic noise was deafening. The staff must think the earplugs were enough to compensate for the noise, but unfortunately they were not. The beds were a bit too soft and comforter flimsy, air conditioner fluctuated and carpet needed a deep cleaning.

After several hours of no sleep I went to the front desk and asked if we could check out and get a refund for the second unused night. Their response was "You booked through Expedia and have to deal with them". Well, that went Nowhere! We stopped in at the complimentary breakfast buffet and decided we'd better find a restaurant. Sparse is an understatement; it consisted of sausage links, undercooked pancakes, 3 types of sugared cereal, oatmeal, English muffins, toast, juice and coffee. When I asked the attendant where the eggs were, he told me they stopped serving eggs a couple weeks earlier.

So, all in all, it was a really poor experience, and even if fully renovated, I'd never consider staying there again due to the train and traffic noise.

Ok here's the deal with this place. As you may see in the other reviews, the hotel hallways are in need of carpet and definitely some paint. Now to address the complainers. This hotel was in the middle of a remodel at the time of the COVID-19 Shutdown, which you can see when you enter the lobby. The elevator is standard size, not like a certain hotel in Escondido. The rooms are very clean, well stocked. You get a full size Refrigerator, two burner flat top stove, sink, dishwasher (yes a dishwasher). Nice t.v. on a swivel mount. A breakfast bar area, a desk, full size closet, all plates and utensils (including bottle opener), a nice chair in the make up sink area of restroom, with some funky sinks (ours was a mosaic, really pretty). The beds are the softest I have slept on in years in a hotel. Beats the Casinos. They have a little store down by the desk and the Manager lives onsite. Due to restrictions the pool and restaurant is closed. But they go out of their way for you. And as far as pricing, like a previous person posted, they are on par with all the name brand hotels. And given this nightmarish year we are suffering though. They are doing their best. I have stayed there three times. And we only live in Escondido, 28 miles away. It's a get away from the neighbors weekend retreat. We love it. You can't go wrong. Just remember if you go to a hotel and get a attitude, they might be as stressed as we are.

Don't let the grandiose exterior/entrance fool you. The hallways are dark and poorly lit. The carpets are stained and the walls are dirty. Our suite had a stained couch and stained carpet. Thin blankets were offered in place of a comforter. We were told house keeping must be requested by 10am each day. Don't assume you'll get a made bed or clean bathroom every night!! When we did request housekeeping, we got our beds made. That's it. Every day we had to request more towels and half the time they were out (probably because no one requested house keeping and towels were piling up on room floors). Also, exterior doors are constantly propped open as the squatters living in the back parking lot by the cargo containers ask you to please keep their soda bottle door prop in place...so they can access at any hour? Please, spend a little more money and stay somewhere else!

Negative- Pool supervision,,,kids were throwing things in the pool, (there was either dirt or poop in the pool at one point.) I didn't want to go in the jacuzzi because the kids were a bit inappropriate and unsupervised.

Positive- Great room, great price, wonderful staff! It was a little odd when I first got to the room, there was still food in the refrigerator and only two towels, no wash clothes or hand towels, but it was quickly taken care of when I contacted Management. That didn't affect my stay and everything was so wonderful, it didn't make a difference in my opinion. We didn't try the breakfast.Excellent stay! I will absolutely return. Thank you for the amazing accommodations!

The carpeting all through this property was deeply stained and dirty. There's cracks in the interior and exterior walls with stains. The couches are stained. I called twice and emailed once the day of our arrival to let them know that we would be checking in very late. I was told that there was "no problem" and that everything was "good to go". Upon arrival around midnight, my reservation for two queen beds was unavailable due to a "sell out". I explained that I had reserved a room with two queen beds over a month ago and needed just that plus I had called twice that day to confirm and let them know we would be late and no one told me that there was an issue. They offered me a room with one bed or told me that they could "simply cancel your reservation and I could look elsewhere". Wow! We looked at the one bed room that they offered me but the hallway carpeting, walls, and overall look of the hotel was run down (not like the pictures online) therefore we decided to drive next door to another hotel and check availability, but they were booked solid. Being that it was near midnight, we went back and accepted a room. Upon checking in, they changed up rooms and gave us another room that had a king size bed. It was a wheelchair accessible room with wider doors and larger bathroom. However, this room had stained couches and carpeting as well. It was hot and muggy and felt very gross. Then there was our neighbors who were up partying the whole night and yelling out obscenities until 4am. There were also guests who were outside our window in a car smoking pot and listening to loud music and going in and out of the hotel for most of the early morning (12am to 2am). Lot's of people hanging out in the parking lot for no apparent reason. No,...I'm not a prude,..I've slept in some pretty nasty and weird places. This hotel rates right up there. If this property was advertised as a hostel, then I would understand, but it has the word "suites" in it's title! I have pictures, but suffice to say, I think this review pretty much sums up our experience with this hotel and you can imagine what we saw. m To sum up: Dirty Hotel that is falling apart with questionable guests doing god knows what with poor customer service. To be fair,....yes, the night manager did finally give me a discounted rate once I voiced my displeasure with the circumstances of arriving to only be told that they didn't have my room.

Honestly if I could rate this a zero I would. I understand with COVID-19 going on business's are doing their best however this establishment is not. My husband and I stayed here 4 days 3 nights because our place was getting fumigated. When we arrived well after check in the staff was no where to be found and once they came to the front desk not one of them were wearing masks and they did not have our room ready nor did they have an idea of when it would be ready. The young lady who was supposed to be helping said she hadn't talked to housekeeping yet to see which rooms were even available. This same young lady never put her mask on and did not seem to care for her job. I never saw this young lady wear her mask the duration of our stay but in their doors it states please wear a mask. Another reason this hotel is getting such a poor rating is because it states it is a non-smoking hotel and this hotel wreaks of cigarettes and marijuana. 10/10 do NOT recommend.

I think this place catfishes families with their deceiving photos and “non-refundable” booking policy. The clientele I saw late at night made me feel quite unsafe. The whole place needs a deep cleaning, there was no breakfast (as advertised) and the hot tub was broken, however, guests stay because they don’t think they can get their money back.
I had prepaid for a 3-day “non-refundable” stay. My daughter and I arrived around midnight and while there were lots of normal looking cars in the parking lot, the people we saw around looked questionable. The sidewalk around the front door is filthy and there cigarette butts everywhere.
When we stepped inside the elevator, I really started to worry. The doors opened to the second floor, where the carpet was covered with dark spots, spills, and stains. The hallway reeked and the air was dank. When we got to our room there was a wire hanging from the missing smoke detector, the doors and walls were dirty, the sofa was stained and had a cigarette burn. I felt completely unsafe and decided to leave and find other accommodations. I called Access Development and left a message, informing them I would not be staying. The answering service and the front desk did not seem the least bit surprised. When I called back the next day I was told I would get a full refund and have indeed been refunded.
