This hotel location was great. Hotel is right across from the beach, 10 minutes from Legoland, easy drive to San Diego, and about a 10 minute drive to Oceanside. I would highly recommend to anyone traveling to the area.

Good part: beach is right there. Resturant staff are dong their part to mantain social distancing and proper food prep during pandemic while keeping prices down.

Bad part: First floor rooms , people could see right in to room if you want to get a view of beach and open curtain; advertised pictured showed french balcony. There was no french balcony on first floor. Bath tub was filthy upon check in. Mildew, moldiesh smell from( this new room)Asked to move rooms to third floor, I was old there was no rooms, however website said their were rooms didn't argue just noted. 9:00pm to get tub clean we would wait half an hour then have to step out of room for them to clean I said never mind work on room change please. They did change room next day ( better view ) which is what you are paying for. The grounds are nice but the outdoor furniture did not seem sanitized and cleaned after multiple guess use. Reported to management two staff member not wearing their mask.

The best thing about this hotel is its location, right across the road from the beach. The beach is, however, difficult to access unless you're athletically agile. Since my husband and I are not, we ended up walking (or there is a hotel shuttle) about 7-10 minutes down a gentle slope to where the beach can be easily accessed.
The hotel is undergoing renovation so parts of it are quite rundown. However, we were given a newly renovated room, which was quite nice. The king room was very spacious and tastefully decorated, and the bathroom was nicely equipped. You can request housekeeping daily or as needed to try to save some planet resources. Our room faced the courtyard pool (with a partial ocean view) so we didn't hear any noise from the road or even the airport nearby.
My only gripe was that the evening dinner/bar ended early so we couldn't stop by for a drink after getting back to the hotel. We did eat breakfast at the hotel every morning because it was convenient and quite good. We had the buffet a few times which was adequate, and ended up ordering off the menu a few times (the omelet is quite tasty).
The hotel was resort-level pricey for which I did expect longer bar hours and a bigger pool (it looks bigger in pictures, but I thought it was quite small), but the friendly service and the excellent location made up for it. Overall, I would stay again at this hotel when staying in the area. You cannot beat the sunset view from the beach across the road from the hotel or hotel grounds.

The location was great. Literally, right across the street from the beach. Now, for the not so great stuff. Parking fee per night was $18 (stayed two nights, that is $36). You could buy a family of four dinner and dessert for that amount. Doesn't Hilton own the property, doesn't it include the parking lot? So, why charge the customers to park in your lot, when they are already paying enormous rates for the rooms per night.
Another downer is, their Room Service doesn't open until 4PM. So, if you get hungry before then, you better have brought some snacks or you can always go down to the little mini-store they have in the lobby area.
The rooms only have two small trash cans (and no bags included). No magnifying mirror in the bathroom (so you can get an up close and personal look at your face), and no stationary in the rooms, just in case you want to sit down and pen a letter. Although, there was one pen, but nothing to write on.
The housekeeping staff is great in keeping the rooms clean. So kudos the them.
Hilton Brand, please work on this hotel. Your rooms here are overpriced and in the economy, your customers needs to know you are working with us not against us. Other than that, had a enjoyable time walking down to beach.

Decided to take a drive and go for a quick overnight stay as a getaway from my covid frontline nursing job. Just wanted to feel
some ocean breeze and have morning coffee looking at the beach. I paid $30 extra for a “partial ocean view” room. My heart started to sink when I saw the condition of the hallways on my way to the room.

My view was a parking lot and a building, with a strange hum in the room. I assume there was a sliver of ocean beyond the parking lot but it was dark and definitely not obvious. Windows don’t open to enjoy the ocean air anyway.

I asked for another room and was given one overlooking the pool, but still paying for the nonexistent ocean view. The room was worn and not what I would expect from a Hilton Brand. The bathtub..which I was looking forward to relaxing in...was peeling and rusty and not appealing at all! Instead of morning coffee at the beach, I was treated to a nearly naked man obviously very high on drugs screaming and throwing things around under my window for over an hour. And on top of that the coffee maker was dirty and the creamer curdled.

The covid “sanitized” tape on the door had been removed and placed on the wall, so obviously someone had been in the room after it was cleaned.

I was very disappointed. This felt more like an airport motel, not a $200 a night beach resort. The pool area looked nice, but the guest with the meth problem made that a less than desirable option.

I checked out and was told they can’t control what guests do and they comped my $18 parking fee, which should have been free anyway. Breakfast is not included either.

Not what I expected.

Great location and good personal service from staff, BUT the room smelled stuffy, dank, and old; the tub and shower had mold on them; the bathroom sink didn’t drain properly; the carpets looked like they hadn’t been vacuumed in weeks; and the sheets made my skin itchy.

I went to a local grocery store and purchased two candles (that I burned day/night), and cleaning supplies so that I could clean the room myself.

The hotel is in a great location with decent access to beach and restaurants, but I wouldn’t stay here again and don’t advise anyone to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn/Carlsbad unless you literally have no other choice.

Front desk staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. They are likely short staffed, because most businesses are at this time. But here's what we noticed: hand sanitizers at the rear elevator were empty. Not a drop. I informed staff and was told it had been ordered. The next day they were still empty. We were there for 3 nights. We spent a few hours in the courtyard, which was perfect for 3 couples to hold a Happy Hour. We found that the tables really needed a good scrubbing each day. We did what we could before placing our items. This appears to be a good spot for families, who purchase take out and enjoy it in the courtyard. Due to the large containers, the trash bins are often overfilled. They would do well to offer a couple of larger trash bins. They do NOT offer a free breakfast, just coffee. A buffet breakfast is $18.95 pp, plus tax/tip. One can order off the menu as well. No bar service at all. Again, some of this could be due to Covid, which makes the fact that the hand sanitation was not available everywhere, an issue. Also, maybe staff can keep an eye on trash bins (even in the hotel entry), as they go pass through the property. Kids must stay free, because there were several larger families.

The lobby is lovely and looks recently renovated. But as soon as you get to the area where the rooms are, it’s like you walked into a neglected 1980s motel. Carpets are dingy, walls are yellowed, trash left in the hallways overnight. Gym smelled like a frat house. Not a single one of the hand sanitizers placed around the property had sanitizer in them. Not one, not the entire two nights we stayed. Hot tub was broken (which the hotel did NOT tell us when we made the reservation). Breakfast was aggressively mediocre.

The location SEEMS like it would be perfect (right across the street from the beach! Yay!) but in reality, you have to walk down the busy Carlsbad Blvd, where there is no sidewalk and the pavement is eroded, until you get to a little steep trail that takes you down to the beach. This is not great for families, especially if you want to carry things like umbrellas, chairs, coolers, and babies. The erosion and lack of upkeep makes it extremely precarious. Only upon checking out did we find out that the hotel has a beach shuttle. Would have been nice to know before we schlepped down there. That said… once we got down to the beach it was very pretty! Caves and a little secret waterfall, lovely wildflowers. The beach is very rocky — wear water shoes if you want to swim or wade. Otherwise OUCH.

I would absolutely not return to this hotel.

This hotel is old and needs to be renovated but the location is great. The fire alarm low battery alarm started beeping every 5 minutes beginning at 6am waking up my toddler and setting the tone for the whole trip. They ran out of water downstairs and have 0 vending machines; I literally had to drive to the store at 8pm to get a bottle of water. The jacuzzi was green, and I saw the maintenance man just dumping chemicals in it. I also stayed here a month prior and had to change rooms because it smelled like sewage, I thought that was a fluke but obviously not.

This hotel is great. The location near Legoland and across from a Southern California beach was a winning combination. It is clean, clean, clean. I had a minor problem with the room I chose checking in online but was quickly and easily resolved by the hotel desk person. Only bummer was the pool was closed the day of our stay.

To answer my own question, the difference is that the deluxe ocean view room is slightly larger and has a sofa bed. Views are the same as full ocean view. Actually, the free upgrade to a deluxe ocean view they offered us was on the first floor so our 3rd floor full ocean view has a better view.
