We stayed at the Playa Grande for a month from mid-January to mid-February, 2020. This complex is a little out of the way and there is not a lot of things to do within walking distance. However, the communities of Barra de Navidad and Melaque are a 15 – 20 minute drive away and there are plenty of things to see and do in both communities. Once we settled in, we found that we went to town every 2 to 3 days and were content to stay within the complex for the remainder of our stay. The cost of a taxi was 250 pesos each way which was reasonable and as a result we didn’t need to rent a car. There is a real sense of community here. We met a lot of people (Canadians mostly) around the pool and everyone, both owners and other renters, were friendly and helpful. The Manager (Jaime) and Assistant Manager (Tania) are both fluently bilingual and were always happy to assist whenever required. There is a small grocery store on site that has a fairly large selection of goods and they will bring in other items from their main store in Melaque upon request. The prices were very reasonable. There is a pool bar/restaurant on site (Benny’s) that is open until 6:00 pm. Good quality food at a very reasonable price. I do believe that Benny could win an award for his hamburger! The surf here is BIG. No swimming allowed in the ocean in front of the complex but the pools are very, very nice (there are 3 of them). The landscaping is lovely and the complex is kept very clean. There are barbeques assigned to each building and they are cleaned daily. Housekeeping is available for a small charge and they do a great job. Overall, I enjoyed our stay and should I return to this part of Mexico I would definitely stay at Playa Grande again

Very relaxing - clean accommodation - spacious condo ; well kept property and very safe when one is traveling on their own. The pool bar and restaurant serve excellent food - great value. The little on site store is wonderful as you can get what you need without leaving the grounds. There are great days trips to be taken in the area. Playa Grande should be considered for any vacation.

Awesome time spent at Playa Grande. Beautiful condos with great ammenitites and lovely people. Highly recommend it to anyone. Had the option to have the fridge stocked prior to arrival which was a nice perk. Played golf at a couple close by spectacular courses, went deep sea fishing, had a massage and had some very good R&R by the beach and pool while eating great.

This is a pleasant alternative to Cabo. You get the same gorgeous weather and fabulous ocean & beaches - but avoid the inflated cost and crowds. It is truly gorgeous here at Playa Grande - the resort is and feels brand new. The rooms have these sliding glass doors that fold accordion style. You can literally make the door and thus wall disappear - making your unit completely open air . The end result is you feel like you are completely outside. And when you leave you'll feel like you've just vacationed on a private island. Great golf nearby and fun, funky little town of Barra. There is just enough to do - but it's mostly a great place to come and relax. Also found the people at Playa Grande - the guests - just a very friendly group.

Unbelievable little gem that no one knows a lot about this place. We stayed here off and on since 2008. The resort comprised of 80% Canadians and Americans. Beautiful beaches near by. The resort itself is Right on the ocean. Very clean friendly staff.

This was our third annual trip to Playa Grande Resort. We love the excellent suites they have. They have lots of friendly staff members, our favorite being Rosio, a young lady at the front counter. We also enjoy their great swimming pools ( some heated),
their beautiful and well cared-for grounds and fish pools, the variety of activities (some free and some paid for), on site laundromat, available sales promotions( with freebees ) if interested, easy walking to the big Marina area with all it's possible activities and restaurants and shops!! The ocean beach is beautiful, as are the sunsets!

This condo resort is very well maintained with spacious and well outfitted condos. The pools are clean and large and the resort is quiet and very relaxing. If you are looking for excitement this is not the place for you.
You need to have a vehicle to explore and shop, although the resort does have a small store offering the basics. There is also a pool bar with yummy offerings for lunch. You can walk for miles on the beach meeting only a few other people. Unless you are a very, very strong swimmer, the ocean is only for watching the mesmerizing waves crash onto the shore.
Barra de Navidad and Melaqui are quaint Mexican towns that provide insight into the Mexican culture but they also have some wonderful restaurants. I have always felt very safe in this part of Mexico!
This resort is great for couples wanting to enjoy alone time and for family and groups that just want to vacation together without the all-inclusive hype.

Sorry. I know that this place has great reviews. Yes, the people that work here are very friendly. I speak a little Spanish and that is helpful. It's a beautiful scenario, no doubt BUT it cost $200 per in a country in which u can buy a sandwich for 50 cents.

How long of a drive is it to Barra de Navidad? Also can you catch a water taxi from the resort?
Answer from Sasha88

Also no water taxi from the resort. The ocean is too rough it would be impossible for a boat to come to shore.
