The JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa is celebrated for its lively atmosphere and picturesque grounds, offering guests the charm of spacious rooms amidst a bustling environment replete with events and music. Nestled conveniently near downtown Scottsdale, the resort is a beloved desert escape, though some guests have felt the pinch of high prices not matching the value received.
While the amenities like beautiful gardens and pools are a highlight, visitors have noted extra fees and construction noise. Service at the hotel generally garners praise; however, room cleanliness and maintenance have faced criticism, casting a shadow on the guest experience.

This place is totally unique. It is not your normal hotel. It is comprised of many "Casitas", or small cluster units. Most are ranch style, however there are some units that are on a second floor. Some have private swimming pools. We have had both in our stays at this property.
Some of the distinctive elements of this property are the very peaceful environment, both day and night. There are no discernible noises common in all standard hotels, regardless of cost. Because you're in Paradise Valley, you are away from street lights and the hustle and bustle of urban life. At night, it's very dark and the stars and constellations light up like LED's in the sky.
We had the golf package which included breakfast for two. Both of the Camelback courses were in excellent condition. Rita's Kitchen was fabulous! The made to order omelets, selection of meats, fruits, breads and bakery were off the charts. The service is typical Marriott---excellent. We often ate at Lincoln's, a bar with a great happy hour menu. It has a number of community tables and a few individual tables and an interesting mix of clientele. There are other more formal dining areas, but we enjoyed the ambiance here after golf. There are a couple of really great fire pits to hang around when the sun goes down and it gets cool in the desert. It's just a great place.

We stayed here for 4 nights and couldn’t have had a better experience. Check in was wonderful, and our room was great. Most of the room suites are first floor units that share a courtyard w 6 or 7 other units. We had no issues with noise from any of the surrounding suites. While I hate resort fees as much as the next guy, the $40 fee included parking and other perks. We used bikes on a couple mornings, borrowed golf clubs for my kids to use the chip and putt, and went to the driving range at Camelback Golf Club as well. We didn’t play tennis or basketball, but other guests we spoke with enjoyed those facilities a great deal. The pool was warm, and my kids had a blast in it each day. The spa was expensive, but my wife spent a few hours there and really enjoyed the service and the facilities. The Lobby area had a lot of fire pits and places to relax, and the views of Mummy Mountain from the back deck were unreal. Parking spots are very close to the units, which was great for loading and unloading bags. Golf cart shuttles will take you back and forth if needed, but we enjoyed walking the property to get from place to place.
We will definitely return to this resort, and were very happy with our stay.

I'm giving this place 5 stars based on available services during the COVID pandemic. There were disappointing aspects of this trip but I cant blame the resort for being cautious and responsible.
The resort itself is very pretty with the mountains in every view. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful when we needed help. At the time of the trip the resort was basically shut down from Monday - Wednesday. Most restaurants, spa and gift shop were closed these days. I arrived late Saturday night and left first thing Thursday morning so we didn't get to enjoy any of those amenities. The gym is by appointment only so if you plan on using it you need to make a reservation. There was no live music that we were aware of even though the website said it was everyday.
The pool was nice so we wound up spending every afternoon there. The weekends were busy so finding 2 chairs together was tough but the weekdays were wonderful. The pool staff came around starting at 11AM for drinks and food. Their service was exception, the best we had anywhere during the trip.
The food option was pretty simple and was the same as the open restaurant so we ate off property every night for a change of pace. Prices were a little high in my opinion but if thats your only option, you suck it up. Breakfast started at 7AM and all was very good. It came quickly and the portions were big. There is a Starbucks on property if you prefer that.
Every day we tried a different activity that was included in the resort fee. We took advantage of renting bikes, tennis equipment and hiking. Check with the front desk about tennis courts, they fill up quickly. Biking was a lot harder than we thought because of the hills so keep that in mind. Bottled water is available when renting equipment. They also offer time at the driving range at the Camelback golf club. It is off property but only about 5 miles away. We weren't planning on golfing that day and wore athletic clothes and felt underdressed for sure. They supply the clubs, water and your own cart to take you to the driving range. We had a lot of fun but would have dressed appropriately next time.
While I was disappointed, what services they could offer were good. The room was beautiful and much larger than I expected.

We booked a Signature View Casita with 2 Queen Beds. These aren't actually casitas though. There are maybe 10+ rooms attached to eachother in each building. Our room smelled like a musty old motel room and I expressed this to the front desk and we were moved to another room in a different building. That room was carpeted and very tired and rundown. The room we were moved to had new hardwood/tile flooring and was updated tastefully. I was pleased with our new room but still disappointed and didn't feel that the room was up to JW Marriott standards. The property grounds are really beautiful. Considering we stayed during COVID-19 our expectations were different. The Marriott is doing a fantastic job making guests feel safe. The pool and 24 hr fitness were open. Pool service offered drinks and lunch. The Starbucks on site was open so that was a really nice option for morning coffee or a breakfast sandwich. But on a Sunday evening when all I wanted was a glass of wine, there were zero options for ANYthing. Everything on site was closed. Overall, our stay here was just average and not worth the $$.

Our sixth stay here in four years. Pre-COVID was a different experience. This place had all the amenities of a large global resort that 'felt small' and left you with a feeling of 'intimate care'. NOT SO for our stay in November, 2021. The property is focused on the large group wedding venues leaving couples looking for a romantic get-away feeling isolated and forgotten. On property dining reservations are hard to come by + spa facilities are booked out weeks in advance, to include day passes + the on-property Starbucks was having to cut their menu selection in order to serve a large wedding party dining at Rita's cantina on property. We found a few smaller boutique properties in the area that were able to accommodate our Spa needs as well as dining. $650 a night here is better spent at one of the smaller venue properties in this same Paradise Valley location where there is ample staff to take care of all guests. If you have to stay on Marriot points, so be it...if you are spending your hard earned money, go to a smaller venue. We will do so in the future.

Used a SNA award to upgrade from a Casita to a one-bedroom suite. Worth the upgrade. The suite was large and recently renovated. It had a separate living area with a pull out sofa where my friend slept. The bedroom was very comfortable and the suite has heavy duty black out curtains to ensure a good sleep. The bathroom was large and spacious, with a separate shower and tub.
I'm Marriott Titanium and chose free breakfast as my amenity. This was a great benefit as my friend and I were able to get one breakfast entrée and one drink each comped; about $60 in total. The rate I chose also had an additional daily $100 credit which could be applied at the restaurant for dinner or at the pool for drinks. Service at the restaurant for breakfast and at the pool for drinks was top notch, friendly, and attentive.
The pool was somewhat crowded but nothing to complain about. The spa looked amazing but unfortunately was fully committed during the time of my stay.
When I arrived the suite wasn't ready, but I was able to store my bags with the amazing bell hop guys at the front. The front desk gave me a pool key to access the pool and have a few cocktails while we waited for the room.
All in all, I loved my stay here and would definitely return for a future stay.

The grounds at the JW Marriott Camelback Inn are beautiful and it’s a great location, but rooms are tired and cleaning is horrible. We’ve moved out of one room due to lack of cleanliness. This is our second room and our kids’ socks are black from the floor despite pointing out cleaning issues and asking for the room to be cleaned (which even at these rates they’re only doing every other day)!
This is our kids’ socks AFTER a cleaning. Yuk!

Being a Marriott Titanium status member, I was super impressed with this JW Marriott. Service in all respects is outstanding. The rooms are sizable, including a lovely porch, and we were upgraded to a great Camelback Mountain view (with an exceptional sunrise).
My Marriott status entitled me to free breakfast for 2 persons each morning, including gratuity. It was fabulous!! Don't miss breakfast on Thursday through Sunday when the hotel arranges for a trained hawk (and handler) to shoo away the pesky crows and birds. Outdoor seating for breakfast is delightful.
There is, unfortunately, the now standard $30 plus tax daily resort fee added to your bill, but at least this hotel offers a number of activities to make it worth your while (as long as you use them). You can also get a daily newspaper or two from the front desk (NY Times, WSJ or USA Today).
The pool area is delightful, with great food/beverage services. I did not use the fitness room but the amount and variety of equipment is plentiful.
I look forward to returning to this property again.

This hotel allows guests to walk freely in the lobby and in Rita’s without masks. They have rules but make no effort to enforce them. Other hotels and restaurants refuse service to guests who will not comply with public safety. Not this hotel.

It’s been a few months but we had a fantastic experience so I wanted to write this review. We were here during Christmas when Covid was at its peak. We were hesitant but we desperately needed a change so we traveled here. The room we had was beautiful with views of the camelback mountain and downtown Phoenix. Breakfast was phenomenal and each table was thoroughly sanitized. The rooms were very private and the occupancy was kept at 30%. Easy drive to Scottsdale area and airport. All in all an amazing stay

The nearest hiking trails are right on Camelback Mountain. A bit of a walk from the JW (maybe 1.5 miles) but the better option - there is very limited parking at the main trailhead.
There is no main building, all the rooms are in 2 story casitas - really nice rooms. I am sure some of them look out on Camelback, but all have views of the other hills surrounding the property.
About 20-25 minutes from PHX, a few minutes more or less from the rental car center (which is about a 15 minute bus ride from the terminals). Not sure about the stadium.
Some nice trails on the mountain with some good rock scrambles along the way. Depending on day and weather can get a little crowded.
If you have time and a car, I would head over to McDowell Mountain Regional Park or South Mountain both are really big parks with lots of trails
If you mean the live performer who's there sometimes, there was a solo act fellow with an electrified acoustic guitar (probably an Ovation, if you know guitars), playing things like James Taylor and Carole King, light pop. I think he was set up starting about 1 pm for just a few afternoon hours. It was pleasant, but if you hate any ambient sound you might have been unhappy. I found it appropriate background music--certainly not like a band. It made no negative impression. The guy was talented and low key. He shifted to indoors, in the bar/lounge, for evening hours, but of course this would be avoidable if you don't go to the lounge. I don't remember any unpleasant evening loudness.
There are more places to choose from in the Paradise Valley area.
