Cabinas Jiminez is good fun, it’s pretty basic, but it’s plenty good enough for a couple of nights.

The guy on reception was really nice and helpful and let us leave our bags and use the bathroom when we arrived early and directed us to some local bars and restaurants.

The rooms are clean, if a bit dated. The aircon was a Godsend!

The pool was a bit murky looking but smelled of chlorine when you were in there.
It’s really nice to be able to borrow bikes and kayaks. When we borrowed kayaks we saw some dolphins whilst we were out paddling!

Booked a three-night stay based on its location and reviews on Google Maps, and after staying two nights, we extended our stay another three nights! Just a fantastic hotel to enjoy in Puerto Jimenez, directly on the water. We enjoyed watching the boats from our patio, taking out the free kayaks and bicycles, conversations with the other guests and the staff, and, of course, going out on the boat to do some whale watching. Convenient to drive from here to anywhere further down the peninsula, and excellent paved roads all the way to the hotel for our arrival. The kitchen was well-stocked with all our needs, and we were within walking distance to about a dozen restaurants. Great wifi and A/C, too!

We enjoyed our stay so much, we are returning for an extended stay. Highly recommended!

This was really one of the best places we have stayed at in Costa Rica.
The hosts John and Annie and the whole staff are so friendly and welcoming, it felt like arriving home rather than in a hotel. The whole area is spotless, there is a lot of plants and even a small pool. In the almond trees just in front of the pool you can observe wild scarlet macaws every day!

I would recommend booking straight through them, like this you can see all the different rooms that they have available and find your best fit, best to call or send an email beforehand tho, they are very quick at answering. All rooms have coffeemakers and delicious coffee included, some rooms come with an amazing, fully equipped semi outdoor kitchen, a huge private seating area overlooking the water. This room has space for like 5 people so perfect for a family with a bunk bed (lower bed queen or even king size) plus another big bed.
It is quiet but still in a great location with walking distance to supermarkets, restaurants and tour operators. John offers some tours as well, dolphin watching for example.

We felt very safe there and you can park the car inside the premises where they close the gate over night. There is a safe in every room for your valuables.
One of the best features of this place is of course the free kayak and bike rental. They will explain you when the best time to kayak is in terms of the tide, so you don't have to carry the kayak for ages. There was two seater ones and single ones and I believe even a stand up paddle board. They also provide life vests.
We paddled out on our first day a bit late, maybe an hour to sunset but it was so nice, we saw bottlenose dolphins within 1 meter of our kayaks! On the way back we had to carry the kayaks for a short distance.
The next day we paddled towards the big mangroves to the right, ask the staff about the best place. It was amazing and we spent about 2 hours and would've loved to do it again. Almost at the end there is a short path over sand to the beach on the other side.
The wifi worked very well and was free. They seem to be very pet friendly as well, no noisy animals around though.
We would've loved to stay even longer and done some more kayaking. Definitely recommend and will be back!

First, please know that I am not hard to please or a complainer by nature. A survey of my hundreds of reviews will show that I love most of my experiences. There are plenty of positive reviews of Cabinas Jimenez, so why did this place suck the Pura Vida right out of me?

I arrived a bit latish(7:20pm) to find Anne at the reception desk leaving me a note as she departed for the day. She put me in room #4 which is a windowless cave adjacent to the reception desk with a bunkbed taking up much of the room. This setup made no sense for a solo traveler.

I mentioned something about this being a bit disappointing since I was planning to stay for 5 days. She responded that there wad nothing she could do and it was my fault for arriving late and using Booking.com for my reservation.

Then it got worse. The owner was out of town and his dogs were left in the reception area where they barked much of the day and night. This meant that it was next to impossible to sleep.

On the first day I asked the reception desk to hook me up with a local guide named Josh who was highly recommended. I was assured that this would be no problem. 5 days later and numerous inquires at the reception desk and nothing ever happened.

When the owner returned, his girlfriend had thre decency to apologize for the barking dogs. The owner himself never mentioned the problems.

On the last day, I went on the boat tour with the owner...I received a $15 discount because of the terrible experience I had a Cabinas Jimenez... not exactly a great compensation. The tour of a mangrove, swimming with dolphins, and snorkeling was the highlight of my time at Cabinas Jimenez.

As mentioned by other reviewers, the pool looked a bit grungy, and there were myriad tiny ants in the room, but I could have had a good experience at Cabinas Jimenez if I hadn't been put in a cave and mistreated by the staff.

I can see how others would rave about this place... great location, near town, kayaks etc. However my experience was the worst I have ever had in Costa Rica.

We are sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at the Hotel. We always try our best to make people... happy. If I would have known about you.. not liking your room, I would have tried to do some thing... But at the time, with my staff...there wasn't many options, because the hotel was full. Cabina # 4 has two windows and windows ,all around the top of the Cabina. And I apologize for the barking of the dogs. Sincere, John owner

We arrived at Cabinas Jimenez on 15th March-just before things got too crazy in the world and were booked for 3 nights. We were given an upgrade on arrival to the Bungalow, which was really appreciated. It has a wonderful outside deck with a kitchen area and a nice sitting space. Outside the front door is a tree frequented by Scarlet Macaws . The view from the terrace over the Gulf was amazing, and as things outside started to shut down or feel less safe, we spent quite a bit of time on the terrace. By 18th March it seemed prudent to abandon our plans and head back home, as flights were being cancelled and there was no guarantee we could get back otherwise. John and his team were so kind in helping us re-arrange flights and letting us use their phone to call airlines etc. We were able to spend another night with them, and they offered us a special rate if we got stuck and had to stay with them for longer! I must say, the thought did occur to me that I would rather spend 3 months or so there than back in the UK- and it is probably much safer.
I wish all the staff there well during this testing time and hope to visit again soon

I was between two hotels in Puerto Jimenez and ended up choosing this one after driving past both of them. I went in asking for the cheapest room as I really didn't need anything fancy and it was just me anyways. I stayed in room 19 for the two nights before a 3 day hike of Corcovado and in room 4 the night I got back. Room 19 was superior (and it was more expensive) but I wouldn't say room 4 was bad... I just preferred 19. I was originally supposed to be in 5 when I came back but they had to change me. The woman apologized but I honestly didn't mind... as long as I had a bed and shower I was content and she was so kind that I couldn't imagine being angry at her. Pablo and John were also very helpful throughout the stay. They helped me get my ziplining scheduled, the free kayaks were really nice, John made sure I knew to take cash to Drake Bay, and they gave me all of the best places to eat/visit in Puerto Jimenez. Additionally, during my 3 day hike, they let me keep my luggage and car there which was greatly appreciated.

This is Allison's dad. I mention this because Allison, who lives in Puerto Jimenez, highly recommended this hotel and this particular room. The view of the bay from the large kitchen/living room is uplifting, especially watching the tides and sunrises. The bedroom is spacious with a king-sized bed, two double beds and bathroom. There is also a small room with plants, tables and chairs as you enter the apartment. The air conditioning and fans kept us comfortable.
The owner, John, and especially Anne at the front desk were delightful. The free kayaks let us capture spectacular sunsets on the calm waters.
We stayed eight nights and will definitely return.

These folks could not possibly be any more hospitable. And it’s not some artificial prescribed “friendliness”. If you let them know what your thoughts are they will sort out everything you need with local and up to the minute knowledge. They know where the bite is, what captain to use, what boat is solid, which restaurant will serve you the most amazing coconut fish soup because they are completely connected to the community.
The rooms vary widely - from a single bed to a full spread with kitchen and all. The place is always clean and well looked after with just the right amount of funkiness to be interesting and authentic.
The location is perfect. At the head of a dead end road right off the main turn into town and direct access to the waterfront- and there are bikes to get around!
Kayak use is included in your stay and there is plenty to see by water.
Go and enjoy!

We enjoyed our three night stay at Cabinas Jiminez. We’d reserved the first two nights in one of the waterfront rooms which was lovely. Comfortable bed, nice sheets & towels, good a/c. The hotel doesn’t provide breakfast but the room had a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, dishes & cutlery for two. Lovely sitting area outside the room. Nice little pool, free use of kayaks & bicycles for guests. The hotel owner, John, treated four of us to a complimentary sunset boat cruise.
We wished to stay a third night & although our ocean view room was already reserved, we were able to spend our last night in a poolside room. A bit smaller but still a really comfortable bed, good a/c, nice sheets & towels.
Can’t say enough about the reception staff. Annie is amazing as is Kayla.

We had the best room upstairs over looking the pool and water front.
Beautiful decorated room with kitchen and balcony outside.
Bikes and kayaks were ready available to use at no extra charge.
Very friendly staff were always eager to help with all tours and information on local restaurants, etc.
One of the great high-lights of our trip was taking there boat tour for the day, seeing dolphins and other wild life on the Bay. This was exceptional and at a great price!
We highly recommend staying and coming back again as often as possible. Thank you, Cabinas Jimenez for everything.
