Our cabin was okay. It was clean but our ceiling fan didn’t work and we had to keep turning our AC back on after every 30 minutes that passed. It was hard to keep our room comfortable at night. We would wake up hot and then turn on the AC. The breakfast was nice. They always had rice and beans, plantains, and eggs with fresh fruit juice. My favorite part was they did our laundry for $2/kilo or something close to that. They were super fast cleaning and drying our clothes. I really appreciated that!

Nice little cabins and helpful management. Breakfast was fine. This property is used by groups some of which can be noisy. It is a one km flat, safe walk to town for the nearest proper restaurants.
Cabins and roads need a bit of updating.

First, I'd like to thank staff member Gabriel so much for driving me to the San Jose airport. I can't thank him enough for his time and conversation, and patience as I am not a fluent Spanish speaker. Gabriel is what lead me to give this hotel a higher rating than I would have, had I not had a chance to interact with him outside of the hotel. This saved me a lot of money which I would've had to pay if I chose the taxi route. Aside from Gabriel's awesomeness, I would've likely rated the hotel at 3 stars or average. I was booked here through a tour with G Adventures, and looking at the other reviews, it seems like this hotel is very commonly booked with travel groups. As other reviewers have mentioned, the hotel is pretty far from downtown La Fortuna and other attractions - about a 15-20 minute walk and a $3 cab ride. No food or restaurant options close by, but there is a cafe onsite which was pretty good, but I'm sure only open at certain times. Also, the cabins themselves looked quite old and dated. I saw a few mosquitoes inside the cabin and a little roach, all of which were fortunately dead or on the brink of death (naturally). There was a small slit opening on the door and holes all over the cabin walls, which I assume was the likely way that the bugs had gotten in. The shower water would start out hot, but then changed to cold within the first minute or two of my shower. Needless to say, during my 2 day stay, I was forced to take cold showers. Also, for those that rely on wifi, the cabins had very spotty access. Was stronger in the lobby. No tv in the room either, which is fine by me. Also, many might find communication a challenge as many staff do not speak English very well, also fine by me as I can get by so not a detractor. On a positive note, the landscaping of the hotel grounds was beautifully done and very well-kept. Also realized that the hotel had a really great view of the Arenal volcano. I would probably not stay here again, but would definitely stop by to say hi and give a hug to Gabriel! He certainly was one of the highlights of my entire trip to Costa Rica!

Based on the other reviews there is a lack of repair being done on the property my room had a non-working TV. refrigerator toilet AC with a broken fan and no hot water on the sink. Maintenance man came out on second day when I returned that evening nothing was fixed except the toilet worked. Wi-Fi was down the majority of the time not available in the rooms. This would be a nice facility if the owners would just put a little more of the profit back into the rooms and upgrade the TVs Also the buildings lack repair and paint. Loved the yard work and live animals

When we went there. Hotel was closed and they still charged us. We requested money back and they made up story even saying that we wanted big room although we couldn't even enter to hotel!!!! Incredible that still this kind of scam exists. Hotel is completely closed you can't enter but you are being charged. Avoid!

Las Cabinitas is a wonderful little find in the Fortuna area. We stayed for 2 nights, and were pleased with the comfort of our room. We went with another couple who actually had 3 beds in their cabin just for the 2 of them! There is air conditioning, a pool, spa and massage, gift shop and very good food. An definite plus was all the beautiful plants and shrubs on the grounds. They were major attractions for all types of humming birds and tanagers. The colors were extraordinary! The chef puts out fresh fruit for the birds as well, so it's an extra treat to watch them while dining. The staff spoke English very well, and took care of our every need. The hotel is also walking distance to town. The only drawback was the proximity of a gas station right accross the street. It was noisy at times with some trucks, but as I always travel with ear plugs, I had no problem.

We returned from a 10 day Caravan tour where we stayed 2 nights at Las Cabanitas. The trip was great, but this is the only place we would not return to stay. The cabins are quaint and comfortable. Few of the desk staff spoke Englsih, which was a problem at times. Internet service did not work at all while we were there. There really isn't a social gathering place, particularly if there are large groups as they have to serve meals in two sittings to accomodate everyone. The only "lounge" is a small stand up bar in the restaurant area - no where to sit or gather. This sounds picky, but the tablecloths were not changed from one group to the next and there were times when the group before us was rather messy and I'm sure we were also. (We are used to camping and are not picky people, but this was actually a little gross at times.) The resort did not want us to run a tab or pay with a credit card, so we had to pay with cash, which was not expected. The food was good (buffet) although the waitress we had during our stay was very rude to nearly everyone in our group and we were rushed. It is within walking distance of town, which was nice. They have an older pool which is in need of updating, but was a nice escape from the heat. They are constructing new cabins and several in our group were stuck in cabins at the end and the only view they had was of construction sites. Laundry service did a very nice job and was very convenient.

Stayed for four nights in april. The hotel is the worst i stayed in during my holiday in costa rica. Half the hotel is being developed and i had to put up with hammering, sawing and shouting work men starting at 6:30 am! I told the management i wasnt happy about this and no one seemed to care. The pool was also dirty and the pool side chairs rusty. It is also right by a busy main road and peterol station. I am not the sort of person who would write a hotel report but i felt quite strongly about my negative experience here. Could not recommend it. Avoid.

My son traveled to Costa Rica with a tour group and had the misfortune of staying at Las Cabanitas for two nights. He said the flowers were pretty, but that does not make up for the fact that his tablet, along with some school-issued iPads and other assorted devices, were stolen from his room. The kids were swimming at the pool and their stuff was stolen while they out of the room. The thief entered by breaking the metal bars on the bathroom window. "Metal bars on the window" says it all.

We stayed two nights in a junior suite. The rooms are cute, you can see the Arenal volcano in the distance on a clear day. They have guards walking during the day and night but it does not seem like a dangerous place. They also have maintenance guys late at night. However, they do close the reception at night, not sure what time and the guards are the only ones around. The town and area seem very calm, everyone is nice on staff and in surrounding businesses.
The room did not have a TV as described in their website. Our AC worked fine and everything was clean and neat. The tub was clean but very slippery, we know to look for this since we have traveled to other countries, just be careful. The twin bed had only two boards holding the mattress, good thing our kid is small so he didn't need all the space. We didn't have problems with the windows or showers but someone we traveled with did, there were holes in the bathroom window, therefore, bugs could come in. If you are not on your first rodeo, it's not a big problem. Everything else in the room was fine, again, clean and neat. You can hear the lizards making noises and birds chirping in the morning. The roof is very rustic and I can see how it could leak. There was a storm while we were there and we lost power, no leaks though. Just know that you are in Costa Rica and do your research ahead of time.
School groups go here a lot. The pool is small and slippery, again, you are not in the U.S. just be careful.Their meals are not a good option, it was not very tasty compared to other places that offer the same service. We ate at a "fonda" across the street, the owner and his son were very nice and prepared anything we asked for.
In this part of Costa Rica, infrastructure is not the best. Power goes out when it rains hard but it comes back after an hour or so. Everyone speaks English. It's humid and warm, we went during the rainy season. Las Cabañitas are cute but I would not stay there again because I believe I can find another rustic experience for less money and with a more accurate description. We wanted a rustic and real experience but this was overpriced in my opinion, this is not a "resort". We did love the area, the view and the location.

They do not have a hot spring. But, there are several close by. You'll have to cab/drive there and pay to get in. Or, go to the natural (free) one I wrote about.
