this review is on behalf of our family friend whom we had recommended after our wonderful experience when we visited in june 2019
they visited as a family and a wonderful stay and they were all praises for the wonderful services provided by this small but superb family run resort with personalized attention to detail
################ cottages are on the side of the tea estate with trees all around. So for a change we were woken by the tweets of birds instead of our mobile alarm.
rooms were very spacious and well appointed and bathrooms modern and super clean
food was absolutely homely and very reasonably priced
the complementary spice plantation tour was very informative and the guide explained everything in detail.
Mr Harish managed the booking efficiently with clear communications.
a very memorable stay and would definitely look forward to staying again

So...this was my first trip to Munnar, and due to the pandemic we were little more conscious about the place and the hygiene...
As we reached Munnar, the hotel owner arranged a Jeep that will take to the resort from a kilometre away .. (so you can actually drive almost till the end in your personal vehicle). Kaivalyam Wellness Retreat is a 11acre spread in midst of a spice plantation with valley view in Munnar
As we reached the resort, Harish Bhai the owner of the resort welcomed us with a fresh juice and warm homely smile. The rooms were alloted immediately upon the arrival that were well sanitized with AC set as per room temperature.
The inhouse restaurant Trikaya, serves yummiest Pure Veg Food of South. Breakfast Lunch or Dinner everything is made in home preparation style. They prebook your order so that the food is made only for you with almost zero waste. Ashish is a part of the restaurant team and he makes the best host ever. His affection to serve food makes you feel home.
The resort also provides a host of free activities like yoga, bird watching, spice plantation hike, tea garden walk, cooking session, tea testing experience and meditation. Indoor games and library provide added entertainment.
This place is a package of Beauty of Nature, Rejuvenation, Hospitality and Tranquility...

We stayed here for three nights at the start of our two week trip to India. They arranged all transfers for us and we were well looked after throughout our stay. The retreat is located down a steep valley, well away from any traffic noise, it is very peaceful. They offer a good variety of activities which I would recommend, the guided walk through the spice plantation was one of the best free activities. The 5 hour hill hike was not free but well worth the cost. I'm not a massive yoga fan but did one of the free sessions and it was pretty good IMO. The staff are all very attentive and will accommodate any request, could not fault.
The food offered here was absolutely amazing (veggie only), and all generous portions at very reasonable prices. Anyone staying absolutely must try the cardamom lassies. If your looking for somewhere nice near Munnar I think you'll struggle to do better than here.

A beautiful retreat resort with the kindest staff (warm and helpful in every way) and the most amazing organic healthy veg food ever! There is Yoga offered twice per day either by Harish the owner (a Yoga Master) or another Yoga teacher who was excellent. There is chanting every evening at 6:30 and bird walks in the early morning. You can also take a cooking class were we cooked three different dishes and of course sampled them all. Their kitchen is spotlessly clean and filled with organic foods and spices, many from their own plantation. The grounds are beautiful and set in a cardamon plantation with trees and flowers. Waking up every morning to the singing birds was heaven for me. The Ayurveda treatments there are excellent as well. The driveway to get to and from the resort is an experience in itself. They have a fab jeep driver that takes everyone from top to bottom and back again. No smoking or alcohol here which is just what I wanted. I look forward to returning soon.! Hope there will be room for me............

We spent five days at Kaivalyam, and it was an absolute treat! I am mostly regurgitating what everyone else had already said, but: 1.) the resort's website images do not do it justice, the place is beautiful! Endless trees, beautiful views, gorgeous flowers. 2.) the staff is wonderfully kind. 3.) they offer a variety of activities to enjoy, from yoga, to ayurvedic treatments, to spice walks, cooking classes, and independent hikes. We really enjoyed exploring and hiking and cooking class. 4.) the food is fabulous, absolutely wonderful. It's all veg, but wow, just so good. And very reasonably priced. Breakfast is generous and delicious, and you place your orders for lunch and dinner well in advance so they can have time to prepare it, as every dish is custom prepared for you. 5.) the lodge room where we stayed was big, lovely, and comfortable. And it had a bathtub, a major plus for our kids! Star gazing from any room here is fantastic. 6.) the hotel owners are so helpful and coordinated our transportation from the Cochin airport to Kaivalyam and from Kaivalyam to our next stop. 7.) as others noted, the drive here is down a long steep road- so the hotel takes you in their jeep. but whoa, the ride down and view is stunning, and fun!
We would gladly return to to Kaivalyam, it was such a peaceful, rejuvenating experience. You really have a chance to just decompress, connect with incredible nature all around you, and eat well. Highly recommend this for anyone - singles, couples, families... it's fabulous.

We stayed at Kaivalayam Retreat following a busy week touring India's Golden Triangle, and it provided just the rest and relaxation that we needed. The spacious suite room was extremely well appointed (lovely jacuzzi bath), the food was delicious, and the free activities really made our stay a lot of fun. All the staff at this retreat are warm and accommodating and went out of their way to ensure that our stay was perfect. Thank you!

It was the first time we ventured to a vegetarian retreat. Tenuosly on a hill and beautifully nestled on a lush spice plantation. Driving from Marari beach was a beautiful experience to trail through the lukewarm beaches to a cool hill and also switching languages from malayalam to tamil. The roads are quite adventerous and the traffic contributors are in a rush. When we got there eventually though, it was breathtaking.
Location Short distance from Munnar City, ample facilities to visit the nearby dams, tea plantations & some fun local activities.
Room & Resort We had taken rooms with a huge tree running through the bedroom (basement) & living room ( ground floor) adding to the charm of the experience The view from the bedroom to the slanting hill is nothing short of wonder. It is perhaps the best view to wake up to. The rooms is surprisingly, well thought out and stocked with no compromises made. The Resort has such fantastic activities to do, there is a spice garden tour, a small trek, cooking sessions, tea tasting sessions all indoors. It is full of green all around which was a truly refreshing experience.
Food A huge unlikely positive. Menu is enormous and everything on the menu is amazing. There is a bonfire with cake post dinner.
People Another huge positive and a testament to the management as well is that the staff were so nice and always seemed in good spirits. Always happy to chat and give more perspective on the place.
Unfortunately we could stay any longer and would be one of the places to come back to for some more sloppy seconds.

This retreat is a wonderful place! My fiancé and I came here to spend 4 nights/5 days over New Years. We booked the full package, which includes breakfast, dinner, 1 Ayurvedic treatment per night, guided walks, cooking class, and yoga classes. We really enjoyed relaxing here and could have stayed for much longer. Harish and his family and team are wonderful, and the service is excellent. They even hosted a nice NYE party for guests who wanted to join that night. We would highly recommend this for anyone passing thru Kerala and want to stay at a peaceful retreat. We would love to come again and stay!!

Kaivalyam is a unique place located atop a mountain, with wonderful views from the rooms. The food provided was delicious and fresh. I could eat it every day. I stayed in the tree house, which provided a unique experience. Yoga and meditation were provided and took place in the yoga shala, which was the most beautiful place I have ever practiced. It is a well built, open air shala overlooking the mountain. Kaivalyam is located away from the noise and traffic of the city. The staff are friendly and professional. I definitely recommend staying here.
