This hotel just served our purpose because the location is just along the highway and barely 5 minutes drive to Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - the school we visited. They provide a driver's bed too for P600 per night, P800 if with breakfast. Though our drivers said that their room had mosquitos.
Pros
-Along the highway
- Easy parking
-They have a 24 hour eatery that offers -silog meals.
- They have rooms good for groups. (2 bunk beds)
-Their Japanese foods are great!
Cons
- very expensive. The room rate is not really worth it.
- Some of their foods especially breakfast foods is not that appetizing.
-Their room needs a total renovation and upgrade especially the shower area.
-They don't have enough room amenities and really no welcome amenities, even just a cold towel.
-The pool area and chairs should be cleaned
-The pool is not the welcoming, everything we try to swim there are swimming classes.
I don't think we are returning to this hotel. It was disappointing especially with their expensive room rates.
What's going for this hotel is the location, which is along MacArthur Highway beside a gas station. It also has a pool & restaurant. Wi-fi doesn't reach the room although we were only on the second floor.
The price is way too expensive for the type of room and its amenities. They really need to renovate especially if they charge this price. I can get a much better room in other places in the Philippines with half the price.
I'm now in search for a better alternative for budget conscious travelers who want value for their money while in San Fernando La Union apart from Thunderbird. Wait for my next reviews in Tripadvisor =)
Oasis Country Resort looked promising because of its modern exterior finishings. The hotel receptionist was friendly and so was the hotel porter. We booked for a standard double room as this was the only available room for a group of four. The room, together with two additional single beds, costed us roughly around PHP6,000 (one-night stay).
Basing it on the building's interior, it would be safe to conclude that Oasis has been around for years now. The hallway leading to our room was poorly lit and the carpets are craggy. We were hoping that the rooms were somehow refurbished (just like the hotel's exterior) but we were disappointed with what welcomed us: (1) the room was poorly lit, (2) the beds and mattresses were so hard they made our spines hurt, (3) the basic furnitures looked like they were "pamana", (4) the AC unit was so old that it failed in making the room cool, and (5) no bidet was installed on the toilet. We stayed on the hotel anyway because this was the remaining option left for us.
Oasis provided us with lots of food choices. Everything on the menu was a bit pricey so it is only rightful to expect that they serve good food. However, our expectations were, again, not satiated. Average food = not worth the price.
Other than the hotel's friendly staff and nice pool area, there is nothing that would make us stay there again nor make us recommend it to other travellers.
There is no denying that the location is good - signposted everywhere and off the main road, near loads of eateries such as shakey's and max's - spoilt for choice. But it seems like the hotel has capitalised on these points, have become lazy and not really cared about moving forward or giving better to its customers.
When people comment on a basic room - it is that. A very uncomfortable noisy bed and one single pillow. The windows are thin so people facing the main road will have a very noisy stay and if it's not the traffic keeping you awake, it will be the rickety old air conditioning unit on it's last legs.
The TV - those big fat old fashioned ones. You'll need to mess around with the aerial to get a decent picture (if you are lucky).
Wifi - not even going there!
Curtains - no black out curtains so not good if you are light sensitive.
The bathroom is equipped with a bucket and tabo (scooper) just in case the shower doesn't work or no pressure at all. They provide you with ONE bath towel. We steady in a family room, 4 of us and 3 towels.
We had a formal event to go to so was in need of an iron. I rang reception and asked for one. My reply was "Do you have a lot to iron?" to which I said yes detailing my items to her (thinking why do I need to justify my need for an iron). "Housekeeping is using it at the moment" - what? one iron for the entire hotel? Then she said "Ok we'll have someone bring it up to you but please can you call us when you're finished". Then when the said iron was delivered, I was told to be careful as it was still hot and I was handed a folded bed sheet - that was my ironing table! REALLY?!
You need to request for a hairdryer - and a very small one gets delivered - what I can only describe as a Barbie hairdryer.
There is no safety deposit box.
The door keys are that - KEYS. Big heavy chunky keys attached to a big chunk of wood.
Pool - didn't bother. Think there was a charge to use it.
Didn't try the restaurant at all - with the "funny" smell you get when entering reception, I was put off.
When checking out, I requested for the escalator to be switched on so my husband can come down with the luggage (and this knowledge was through reading the reviews here - thank you!) and yes, she gave me a look that meant I was an inconvenience.
The next town - San Juan - is more up and coming. Plenty of beach hotels/villas - see Kahuna Beach Resort and Spa.
Please do not stay here, you might think it's cheap and convenient as a stop over - anyone paying, however much, still deserve to have a decent stay/rest.
(Management - please do not reply back saying if I had pointed this out to reception or spoken with the manager then my issues would have been dealt with. No, when checking in, one of the girls said she won't be able to help me further as she was going home, albeit she handed me over to her colleague - still not a nice feeling. Would be good to see intentions of renovating this hotel - feel a little pride in the owners/management)
We got there earlier than expected (5:00AM) so we asked if we could check in early to catch a few ZZZ's for the long day ahead, we were charged PHP200 per person for early check in and then proceeded to our rooms (STANDARD CASITA) and caught some rest. We reserved our rooms earlier in the week and was under the impression that we're spending around PHP3800 for the whole room since that was the price they had for my buddies when they stayed their with family and their varsity team before. We called, reserved, no questions asked, all good. Once I asked for the receipt to be made, they billed us PHP5,000++ for the room which was way more than what we expected. They said that their rate for the Casita was different depending on the occupants and charged PHP599 per person over the regular rate. The funny thing was that it wasn't on their website nor they didn't inform us about that "rate" they had when we reserved. So, the concierge argued that that's their rate already, and forced us to accept the rate we weren't aware of. Long story short, I got out my lawyer-ing face and after close to an hour of arguing, they let us pay the original rate after a LOT of arguments.
The pool was big, looked murky, the surface wasn't tiled, so it was quite rough, the casita had space for four with two bunk beds and an additional two with the pull out beds. But then take note, you'll be charged close to PHP7500 for that with their "current" rate for a sub par room, an OLD CRT television, broken shower with no heater, no wifi inside the rooms, no complimentary water, no free breakfast or meal, and over-all shameful service (save for the guards who were really just nice).
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:
Do not trust the staff. We had two rooms, another deluxe for a couple friend, and they moved their rooms in the middle of the night because of a broken air conditioning unit to the adjacent deluxe unit. Apparently, my friend had left her iPhone on the bed in the previous room and slept through the night. Upon coming back to the same room, still unmade, with sheets still in disarray, we scoured both rooms, and all the baggage. After maybe 30 minutes, and asking the room keep for help, we couldn't find anything and was sure that it should be just in the original room. We tried for another round of turning over everything, and finally, after maybe 15 more minutes, we found the phone... UNDER THE REFRIGERATOR. We were definitely sure that it COULD NOT have been there in any way possible (if it fell, if someone kicked it there, etc.) We noticed one of the room custodians was very fidgety while we were asking for help and caught him coming back to the room before we did our last search, but only for a few seconds, without even really searching for us.
After that, we paid for our ORIGINAL rate, left and swore never to come to that shady run down place ever again.
P.S.
They're actually using the now defunct band Oasis' actual logo/font.
"Casitas by the pool are in a beautiful setting. However, wifi only works outside the room (concrete walls with rebar inside) and the shower water flow was very poor and the hot water was only enough for one person. The air conditioner was loud, and difficult to adjust to maintain comfort while sleeping. Too cold or too hot."Read full review
