I was very happy with the deluxe room we stayed in, it was a large room with a spa in the semi open air bathroom which looks over the river. We also were impressed with the balcony and pool looking over the river. We were able to get our included breakfast bought to our room from room service. Over all this hotel is great if your looking for a quiet and comfortable stay away from the coast and the tourists but if you want to shop Ubud markets are only a 5 minute drive away. I would recomend the Puri Bunga Village Hotel to anyone looking to relax.

My close friend and I took two rooms next to each other for a 6 night adventure of UBUD at the Puri Bunga . First impression are not good as you enter on a steep driveway which you almost need a 4 wheel drive to access. However the rooms though very tired were clean. Maintenance is severely lacking though the Gardens are immaculate. Both swimming pool's need to be refurbished as the tiling is broken and sharp in many places. The Breakfast was as basic as it get's though it was enough to last until lunch. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The Hotel is situated about 7-8 klms from the Ubud town centre though when staff called us a taxi, there was one in minutes. The cost each way was always 50,000 rupiah (AUST$5). We went White water rafting, Scuba diving at Tulamben, Quad Bike riding and did the bicycle ride 25klms down the mountain. All were good and I highly recommend. Over all the Pura Bunga is good value for money and I would stay there again if for nothing else the amazing views.

We moved out of UBUD centre after spending a noisy night there. Decided to find somewhere outside city centre that was quiet but still close enough to get into Ubud proper. Puri Bunga fit this description. It is quiet, clean, choice of 2 pools which made my 8 year old happy. A lovely view from the restuarant where we had a nice breakfast each morning. The hotel also provides a free shuttle into town, at certain times (which takes about 15 minutes). The staff could not have been nicer. A lovely relaxed, reasonably priced hotel that is a nice reprieve after a day spent in the hustle and bustle that is UBUD town.

I have NEVER been treated this badly in a hotel. After arriving and checking in we left the luggages in our room (first impression: a bit disappointing) and went to visit Ubud. When we came back we wanted to take a shower, which wasn't working properly because of calcification. That's when we gave the room a closer look: the room was oozing of mold. The airco was so dirty it made a lot of noise. The musquito net was covered in mildew. There were ants all over the place. We went to the reception to complain and asked for another room. After a horrible attitude we went to see a different room. Exactly the same story in this room (which was a SUITE).

After telling the reception this room was also dirty and frankly bad for our health, we got YELLED at by the staff. They said our complaints were lies and told us that we had to tell them sooner (it was 21:30). They practically kicked us out of the hotel and dared to charge us fully for the room. We told them we weren't accepting this and they went BALLISTIC. At this moment we were completely done with them and wanted to leave asap. They said that if we wanted our money back we had to come back the following day. The manager would be there.
They offered to bring us to the center of Ubud. They gave us the impression that this was a sort of apology. After being brought to the center (130 miles an hour), the guy asked us 50.000 (!!) rupiah for the ride!

The following day we went back to the hotel. It was exactly like we expected: the promise of a full refund was forgotten and the manager was nowhere to be found. After making a scene in front of other tourists and again being yelled at by the staff they gave us proof that we would get our money back.

DON'T go here. The pictures look nice, but it's very deceptive. Since the hotel has been build there has been no restauration or maintenance at all.

My husband and I have been frequenting this gem of a hotel situated in paradise since 1993.
It is a relatively small resort of 10 rooms from memory and consequently it is very easy easy to become acquainted with the extremely friendly and accommodating staff.
If there are ever any issues, they are quick and eager to resolve them whatever they may be.
For my husband and myself, Puri Bunga has definitely been one of our favourite destination and we have travelled considerably over the years.
We would average a trip to Bali once every two years and do a beeline to Puri Bunga where we would stay for the entire duration of our holiday.

The thing I must stress above all is the exceptional location of this gem. As the other reviewers have mentioned, it overlooks the breathtakingly exotic jungle of the Ayung River valley. At night I drift off to sleep to the soothing sound of the rushing river below.

Over the years, 5 star resorts have cropped up to take advantage of this view and they all charge exorbitant prices while Puri Bunga has remained very affordable to this day, in my opinion.
As others have mentioned, it is definitely worthwhile paying a little extra for the executive rooms which take full advantage of this location and what it has to offer.

It would be true to say that this hotel isnt the most modern but it is impeccably well maintained
and is an opportunity to experience of the true Bali, away from the busy tourist centre. Having said this, it takes no time and very little money to get into the Ubud centre should you wish to go. My husband and I would mostly go in once a day to sample the various eateries and were always relieve to get back to the quiet of the hotel. There are also many restaurants and warungs around the hotel should you make the effort to discover them. As with most places in Bali, most treasures are to be found behind a deceptively unassuming frontage.

Sadly, my husband passed away earlier this year but I will continue to frequent Puri Bunga (as I did on my own this year), my home away from home in paradise.

I chose this hotel based on the positive reviews on this website, encouraged by the fact that I found a good deal online. But I did not stay there because this way way below the standards that a hotel this price (around $120) in Ubud usually offers.
- one of the swimming pool was green for lack of maintenance, which made me doubt the water quality in the other pool
- they provided a baby cot but it was broken and couldn't close, so that's a major safety hazard
- the rooms, albeit large, and plain ugly and decorated in very poor taste
- the restaurant furniture is barely one step above plastic chairs.

To be fair, the location is gorgeous, and there are magnificent views of the river below. But leaving in Jakarta I come to Bali quite often, and in my experience the standards offered there are closer to hotels that should cost around 30 dollars, not four times more. Also the hotel is very remote, they only have two shuttles to the town per day otherwise they charge 50 000 rp for the taxi ride.

Upon seeing the place we decided not to go. The manager, who was away this day, tried to make me pay half the price of the whole stay, USD 140, for "no show"!

All in all, avoid this hotel. I am very surprised at the positive reviews on this website, especially considering that I'm not usually a picky traveler.

On first appearances, Puri Bunga is a stunning little resort with only 10 rooms, so you can pretty much guarantee a quiet, relaxing stay away from the noise and hustle and bustle of the main town of Ubud. However, due to the constant problems I had during my stay, they would have to make some SERIOUS changes with their staff. Training does not seem to be the issue, LAZINESS is the issue, particularly as my first 2 nights there, I was the only guest in the resort.

Now, I’m a pretty easy going person and am not the type to complain, let alone leave a bad review, I’d rather just let it roll off the ducks back, but, honestly the last 5 nights of my holiday were ruined during my non refundable stay. I’ll keep it simple with a list of pro’s and con’s and let you be the judge, also, see the photos as proof.

PRO’S

Great room prices.

It’s only about 10 mins on a bike or likely 20-25 mins in a car (due to the traffic in Ubud town itself, it takes a lot longer for card to get out).

Location is a very long way back from the road, down a steep driveway, so it’s very quiet.

The resort is what I would call ‘Old Bali’ style with the typical statues and decorative architectural features you see all over Bali, however, the reception and rooms are relatively modern style.

I booked the best room in the place, the Executive suite, a HUGE room with the only private balcony in the hotel. It has a spa that opens up so you can view the valley and the Ayung River below. Relatively modern room, despite the resort being ‘Old Bali’ styl.

Jaw dropping, stunning views. From my room, balcony, from the spa, from the breakfast restaurant and from the gardens. Basically everywhere. The valley, jungle, river and some little rice paddies.

Magnificent, manicured gardens, full of tropical flowers. A gardener’s paradise.

2 Big pools – with only 10 rooms you can nearly guarantee you’ll have one to yourself.

The top pool was sparkling clean.

CON’S

Fresh dried blood on the balcony and bedroom floors. Quite a bit, like someone had cut themselves. Apart from that, the floors looked clean, but felt dirty underfoot and my feet were constantly black.

Fresh dried blood on the sheets when I pulled the blankets back. Obviously, the linen had not been changed after the previous guest. Yuck.

The bathroom was FILTHY. Vanity and basin had not been wiped down and the tray where your drinking glasses were, was covered in dead bugs.

The shower had a lot of mould in the grout of the tiles and the shower screen was covered in grime and old shampoo.

I pointed all this out to the young guys who cleaned the room and despite them barely speaking English, they appeared to understand and nod when I pointed out the problems. Nothing was done so I had to go back up to reception (up a lot of stairs) to get them to clean it. When I got back that night, nothing had been done and the manager had gone home.

Complained again the next day about the filthy room and the manager did come down and translate for the cleaners, however, when I came back to my room, all that had been done was to change the linen and mop the floors and wipe the basin down. The shower mould and screen, plus the spa was not cleaned. I gave up.

A section of the ceiling in the bathroom had rotted badly, other sections were rotting with big open cracks and mould. I understand it’s a tropical, humid place, but the owners really should have that fixed given it’s meant to be the best room in the place.

The bar fridge kept freezing up so I had to turn it off and let it melt onto the floor one day as my drinks were frozen solid in the fridge and I couldn’t get them out. Owners, it needs replacing.

The lower, larger pool with views over the valley was not clean at all, it had green slippery gunk all around the edge and on the steps. Dirty pools can be very dangerous, I had a relative that nearly lost their eyesight after swimming in a dirty pool.

For breakfast, I only ever ordered coffee, toast with butter and jam and fruit. The coffee literally tasted like dirty water, so the next day I bought a plunger and my own Bali coffee and asked for hot water as the staff could not work out how to use a coffee plunger. I was brought warm water, not boiling.

The staff would not ring reception for the manager to translate, so had to go to the kitchen myself and boil a kettle as the staff spoke no English. I have never come across any Balinese person who cannot speak even a little English.

The toast was stone cold every single day (5 days in a row) despite me asking for hot toast. I was never given butter or jam and again had to get up and point to it.

The fruit had obviously been cut with a knife that had just cut an onion. So every day, my fruit tasted like raw onion.

I complained to the manager, but nothing changed.

Every day I would order a couple of Bintang beers. Maybe 2 or 3 times a day. Given there were hardly any guests there, this would always take over 20 minutes every single time.

I would ring reception and they would say it’s coming. 15 mins later, still no beer. Went up to reception and they are all sitting around doing nothing – only then did someone get up and take 2 minutes to get my order.

One time the beer was hot and I had to go through this half an hour drama to get a cold one, another time, they tell me the hotel has run out!

Meant to have 24 hr room service, ordered satay around 10pm they said no more room service tonight. A while later they rang back saying they could bring it. It was just OK.

I Left the food tray, plates etc. outside my room which is an open air balcony. Many hours later, during the night a rat or possum creature came into my room and was rustling around in the bin. OK I’m in the jungle, but, if they had removed the half eaten food from outside my room within a couple of hrs, it would not have attracted the rat.
I’m a single female traveller and it scared the life out of me.

I went out the next day. Returning to my room at 5pm, the food tray WAS STILL THERE!

At reception, at any given time, there were always 8 to 10 staff sitting around doing nothing. They would be on their phones or busy playing pool and lounging around, right in view of the guests.

No free shuttle as on their site and the spa was not operating I was told.

Overall, the manager helpful enough, but it seemed as though she could not get her staff to actually do any work. Literally, everything I asked for while I was there, I had to ask multiple times and many times had to walk all the way up many, many stairs to reception, to finally get someone to actually provide the service I had been waiting for.

With 8 or more staff on site all sitting around at reception playing pool and on their phones constantly, and only 10 rooms in the resort, it shouldn’t take 30 + minutes to get a cold beer!

This could be an incredible resort. The owners could charge a lot more if the service and cleanliness were up to scratch. I would like a response from the manager and frankly, some type of compensation. I only wrote the review now as I was so disappointed at the end of my stay as my whole 5 day stay was very stressful when the whole purpose of me choosing the resort was to relax.

The view is what you pay for. This establishment in my opinion should be shut down for health and maintenance. There is an absolute disregard for cleaniness and service. The room we were given whilst it looked good from the outside, every thing was broken, the bedding and mosquito net stained and mouldey. The bath was rusted, the sink and tap didnt work, with a horrible stench emanating from it, the walls dirty, toilet seat broken, maintenance needed to be done to this establishment years ago. We were upgraded to the honeymoon suite, even though the size of the room was amazing, the room is worse off than previous room, disgusting, spa bath had maggots in the pump which came out through piping, curtains broken, the list goes on and on. With our complaint we received a complimentary dinner, only to find out on inspection of the kitchen, the chicken which was served to me was frozen and growing what looked like mould, all the rice left out with flies, fruit bugs and ants crawling all over all the food. Staff are not around when needed. They sleep on the job. wifi has been on and off for our stay. It has turned my few days into a horrible experience. I will not advise anyone to stay here. The beautiful view is not enough. I am trying to get my mo ney back and move as soon as possible. DO NOT STAY HERE!

For the last two years we have had Boys Pilgrimage to Bali and two years running we have stayed at Puri Bunga resort and Spa.
We stay in the executive rooms and they are very spacious at 70square metres and have great views down into a very lush valley.
For the price Puri Bunga is very good value for money and if it had a renovation it would be in a much higher price bracket, everything is just a bit tired but don't let this put you off because overall the experience in Puri Bunga compensates for the odd fitting that is not completely functional.
The Breakfast is reasonable without setting the world on fire but the venue hanging over the lush valley is a very nice place to be, the tables and chairs are strong but old and have a tendency to get caught in the floorboards making moving the chairs awkward.
The grounds inside the hotel are kept immaculate and are very attractive and again the views are spectacular, the driveway is more of a short adventure tour with numerous potholes and bumps again due to a lack of maintenance but would require very little effort to bring it up to spec.
There are two pools that are kept very clean and both are very nice but be a bit careful with the tiles on the insides of the top pool as some of these are a tad sharp
The staff are very pleasant and are very willing to please however they struggle a little bit with English but this does add some charm to your dealings with them and in the end they do get the jobs done.
The hotel itself is situated in Kedewatan which is about a 10 minute drive from Ubud Palace in the centre of Ubud and a one way Taxi ride costs 50,000idr which is $5 Australian.
Reading back over my posting it seems like a lot of negatives and that I am whinging a bit but I really enjoy staying at Puri Bunga and for around $40- $70 Australian in the off season for the Deluxe to Executive rooms it is very good value for money with very large rooms in a very beautiful and lush setting.

...and that's it. it was our first visit to Bali and as far as we decided to stay away from noisy Kuta we chose quiet Ubud. We got the room with a beautiful view on the hills and river. The room looked awesome in poor light on the night we arrived, but the day light showed that the hotel needs a renovation: stains on walls, cobwebs everywhere, limestone in the bathroom, the hot water wasn't hot... And one more thing we were disappointed about: it looks like the hotel management doesn't care about their guests. There is a bar in Ubud Adventure Center which is next door to the hotel, and there were parties 2 nights in a row, friday and saturday nights till 1 am, though the bar is supposed to be open until 9 pm. And if you know how good mountains acoustics is, you can imagine that it felt like the party was in the next room. The staff couldn't do anything about it though we asked them to call police, all we heard was 'I'm so sorry'.
Overall: if you want a quiet place, stay away from this hotel.
