I thoroughly enjoyed my 9 day stay at Kakia Resort and the 8 diving days at the Taveuni Ocean Sports dive center. The accommodations were comfortable and clean and the staff was very eager to take care of every need. WiFi was available in the dining area. Everyone was just extremely nice. The staff at the associated dive center (Taveuni Ocean Sports) were also wonderful. In my 16 dives I was never in a group larger than 3 divers and a dive master. They take care of your equipment from the time you leave the boat after the days dives until you step on the boat for the next days diving. The dive guides knew the dive sites and were able to find a lot of unique and generally small creatures. Again great experience.

This was our 3rd trip to Nakia. The grounds are immaculate, the food is excellent, the staff are very attentive, and well, the place is just great. The hosts treat you just like family and attend to every detail. They regularly invite local musicians and we loved sitting around the Kava bowl with them, listening to the music and enjoying the sunset. You feel like you are part of a large Fijian family while visiting Nakia.

Our typical schedule was to wake up to a tasty breakfast (my favorite was the banana pancakes with passion-fruit syrup made with fruit picked from their garden). Then it was off for diving at the Rainbow Reef with Julie and Taveuni Ocean Sports. Then, lunch, a nap, and then dinner often followed by a beautiful sunset. Our favorite beverages were Fiji Red (they make their lemonade with brewed hibiscus) and fruit smoothies. Their rooms are very nice. We were able to stay in the Somosomo bure this time but we have been in the Garden and Sunset bures and they are all very nice.

If you are looking for beautiful scenery, great diving (but very safe), great food, and relaxation, Nakia is a great place to stay. It is great for divers because it is a short walk from the resort down to the dive shop.

Lovely to visit after Christmas in 2020 - with international borders closed I was lucky to be stuck in Fiji and be able to enjoy the hospitality of Robin Kelly and family. Beautiful clean room (sunset view) and a lovely room. Staff were reduced (due to pandemic and low tourist numbers) but you’d never know as everything was perfectly taken care of. Swimming pool was pristine (despite a recent storm) and was so relaxing to eat all meals on the veranda - we were even able to celebrate New Year’s Eve with the family and other guests! Such a treat …

To call this special place a "resort" understates the magic of it. It's more like a welcoming visit with one of the most beautiful families you'll ever meet, in a magnificent land. Robin, Julie and Jim have created their own dream life on Taveuni Island and they graciously share their life with you during your stay. The land is beautiful with breathtaking views and thriving life. Every member of the staff beam with warmth an authenticity as they ensure your stay is nourishing and adventurous. The food is incredible with a vast variety of choices - each one a gourmet experience. As you enjoy each meal from the deck overlooking the ocean, Robin, the matriarch of the family, makes you feel well cared for.

And the diving... oh the diving. Firstly, Julie, the daughter and owner of the dive company, is one of the most beautiful souls I've ever met. She beams warmth and has a depth to her spirit that effects everyone around her. It's most evident in the wonderful staff and dive crew. Each one of them are charismatic, fun and highly knowledgeable. Underneath the entire experience is the awareness that everyone that works there has a deep love for the coral reefs and a spiritual connection to the ocean. The special feeling you get when diving with this team leaves you with a sense of satisfaction that what you just experienced was a once in a lifetime gift.

And then the reefs of Taveuni reveal themselves to you. Truly the best diving in the world.

I left this trip deeply considering the idea of leaving my life in the US and returning to stay for good. I really didn't want to leave.

My husband and I had the immense pleasure of staying at Nakia for our visit to Taveuni. At the outset we were told that they aimed to treat us like family, but I said to my husband " I dont know anyone who is that accomodating to their family." Everyone went out of their way to make us feel at home and strived to help us do all we wanted on our vacation. Asita, Titi, Ron, Va, Shubs, Joeli, and the other staff knew our names and habits from day 1. Jim, one of the owners, took the effort to know what each of his guests were up to every day, checking in with us in the evenings on how the day had been. Robin was unfortunately away during our visit, though we would love to meet her. Julie, who runs Taveuni Ocean Sports, was also gracefully helping to run the resort and ensure that our planned diving mornings ran smoothly. This varied from a quick check in about plans, to communicating these with the staff at Nakia.

And don't get me started on the food. The portions were generous and the food delicious. Nakia also grows much of their own produce. On one occassion when I asked for coconut water, they let me know to wait a few minutes because someone needed to climb the coconut tree. They also quickly learned my love of passionfruit, and brought me the last one on the morning of our departure.

Taveuni is a quieter island with a more remote feel, and you are subject to the whims of nature here. There are rainstorms and mosquitos to contend with. But, at Nakia, we felt entirely comfortable. The staff were so attuned to our needs, always ready with a mosquito coil, that we were able to appreciate the magnificence of this place. Countless times I sat outside, sipping hungrily at a cup of homemade chai (which I highly recommend) and enjoying the ocean view. They also now have air conditioning in the bures, which offers respite on the hotter days.

Needless to say, we are already planning our next visit.

This was our second time staying at Nakia and we now feel like family. Robin, Jim and their incredible staff provide the most amazing service with their small, family run resort and I am so glad to have been able to get a bure when COVID derailed our plans, and we were forced to find new accommodations. First, the food is amazing. Some of the best I have had in Fiji and definitely in Taveuni. Second, the accommodations while modest and simple, are incredibly well equipped with air conditioning, mini fridge, shower with plenty of hot water and pressure, comfortable beds, amazing views, and daily maid service, the perfect landing pad after a morning filled with incredible diving. Third, Robin treats all her guests like family, chatting you up at dinner and sharing knowledge about Fiji and the incredible island of Taveuni. She is an excellent reflection of her very friendly and talented staff, all with whom I felt like family. And fourth, the land itself on which Nakia resides perfectly reflects the magic that is Fiji. Complete with organic local garden, wild native jungle filled with wildlife, horses and dogs and cats to greet you , beautifully manicured gardens, and the best sunsets on the island, nature lovers will not be disappointed. If you like to dive and eat well, with a home style gathering feel, this is the resort to book.

When we arrived in Fiji, we were greeted with the phrase "welcome home" and that is certainly how we felt while staying at Nakia.

Our party of four stayed in the Somosomo Bure with its amazing views of the water. Beds were comfortable and the front porch was a great place to spend time after diving and snorkeling.

The staff was friendly and accommodating with any special requests that we had.

The food was excellent and we loved the fresh ingredients that were picked out of the garden each day. They sent us off with a hearty packed lunch the day we went to do the costal walk to the waterfalls which was very much appreciated.

Vinaka to Jim, Robin, and all of their staff for a wonderful experience!

I don't often write reviews, but we were so lucky to find Nakia Resort and to have a fantastic 5 nights there recently. Jim and Robyn, the owners, arranged for us to be picked up at Taveuni airport just less that 15 mins away from the resort. We stayed in the Sunset Burre which had a beautiful view out over the ocean and we ate each day at the resort restaurant, where the local chef's cook meals to order for you and use only fresh local ingredients and fruit/salads from the Nakia's gardens. The food was one of the many highlights of our stay and felt like having your own personal chef. We had a day out with the Nakia's dive boat just guided snorkeling on Rainbow Reef, although the diving looked amazing and was very professionally run - we are long-term divers so know a good, safe dive operation when we see one. Nakia also dropped us over to the east side of the island to do the Lavena Coastal walk and waited to pick us up on return. All I can say is great hosts, a beautiful place, lovely staff and fantastic food - and all of it, I think, great value for money.
Thank you Jim and Robyn, we loved our time with you.

I dived with the owner’s daughters company so wanted to check out the resort and restaurant. I’m very glad I did! It’s an amazing setting with beautiful views of the sunset and ocean. The hosts are super friendly and welcoming and the fish sula (curry) is out of this world. You have to try it if you’re staying in Taveuni! Seriously!

This is one of the most relaxing stays I’ve had at a place. We stayed five nights, and felt at home from the moment we were picked up at the ferry until we were dropped off at the airport.

In between we were totally taken care of. The food is amazing - over the five days we sampled most of the menu, and everything was great and different flavours (some other places we’ve stayed all the meals had similar flavours).

Robin and Jim are great hosts, and have a great staff. It was super easy to arrange snorkelling with Julie at Rainbow Reef, and with Ron for land based activities. It’s really convenient to be able to walk to the dive shop in less than five minutes. The house reef wasn’t too bad either - it’s a nice way to cool down from the heat (you could also jump in the pool I suppose).

Even if you’re like us and just want to relax one day and do nothing, there’s no pressure to do any activities :) and it is a great place to relax in a hammock or by the pool or up on the main deck sipping a beverage.

There is power and a/c 24/7 which we also appreciated.

We stayed in the Sunset Bure which has great views of the sunset over Somosomo Strait.

I’d definitely recommend staying here if you’re staying in Taveuni!

Yes, they have power 24/7. At the time of my review, they generated their own power by means of wind, water and solar but now they power supplied by the Government. Since our trip, they also have air conditioning now too.

Hi, Sorry I missed your question until now. Yes, there is decent snorkeling right in front of the resort, but the best sites are on the Rainbow Reef.
