We camped here for one night. It was definitely nice but staff were a little intrusive and up tight. For example, as soon as we arrived, they asked us to please sign in and pay. Ok not super unreasonable but generally it’s nice to get all parked first (to ensure it’s the right spot for our vehicle). It felt like the staff had watched us pull in and followed us to the site we chose.

Firewood was pretty expensive. Found it weird that there were signs on the bathroom that people can’t share or go in together. There seemed to be an overall sense that staff were pretty concerned about enforcing rules. Nice and close to hot springs !! :)

5 of us rented 2 bunk rooms for 5 nights. On the nights there were only a few other guests it was like having our own big house, on the nights the hostel was full we had to queue for the 2 washrooms and dance around each other in the kitchen.

The common areas are large, there is a great outdoor deck and indoor sunroom which were very enjoyable. The washrooms are large and clean and while the showers are coin operated, 1 looney for 1 minute, there is a button to press to both stop the water and the timer. Showering at the hot springs, which is a 5 minute walk, is an option, but it's out in the open of the locker room and you have to pull a rope the engage the water.

The rooms are large with 4 beds, (2 bunks), and a locker for each bed. Take room 3 if you can, the air flow is decent and it shares only one wall. Walls are thin and you can hear people snoring, not to mention all kitchen noise. Good ear plugs are a must.

The kitchen is well equipped and there is plenty of storage both in the 2 refrigerators and in storage bins.

The two of us were looking for a place to stay near the hot springs. (We don’t camp and were looking for a hotel/AirB&B kind of place but we booked this location before they switched to the AirB&B platform so couldn’t write a review on AirB&B. ) We booked the lower suite and it was so much more than we expected. With the solarium and the large deck and kitchen, BBQ, and multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, it felt like we had booked an entire hotel to ourselves. There could have been 8 or 10 people accommodated, instead of just the two of us. The check in was seamless and the communication was friendly and helpful. The water is trucked in and at a premium so the measures in the shower for instance to limit over-use of water made perfect sense and still never made us feel rushed or unable to enjoy the shower. If the walk to the hot springs is 5 minutes it’s because we dawdled. The unit included one complimentary entry. We’ll write a separate review of the hot springs themselves but suffice it to say they are outstanding. There were quality hikes available without getting into the car. If the Air North flights had allowed we would immediately have rebooked this unit for January. A really wonderful stay.

The takhini hotsprings sucks!!! We are locals born and raised in the yukon and were camping at the hotsprings for a 50th birthday party. The lady who claimed is the "owner" was very disrespectful, same story as the other review for the 50th birthday party! I will never recommend camping or swimming at these facilities to anyone! again id like to reiterate the fact that they came without warning at 9;45 and pushed ours fellow campers aside and dumped a jug of water on our fire. There were small children standing around the fire making smores. They proceeded to come to visit us 5 other times the same evening. They also came back next morning and demanded we leave even though we payed for 3 nights there! They happily took our money, months in advance, knowing we were having a 50TH birthday party (we booked 3 months in advance!!!) We even asked if we could book the whole camp ground they said no, so we asked if we could be put at the far end of the campground. The put us in the middle of the campground!!! We used 7 out of the 14 sites that we booked and payed for! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE i will NOT be camping there again.

Response from ManagerTHP, Owner at Hot Springs Campground
Responded Aug 29, 2018
Thank you for your comments. We would like to take this opportunity to respond to your comments and to allow our future customers to know that this review is very misleading. To our future customers, we hope you read this so that you can be assured that we do not tolerate partying and unreasonable noise in our campground. We take pride in being a quiet campground! The 50th birthday party your group held was a complete disaster for all our other campground guests and staff. Your group broke almost all the rules we have in the campground. We told your group on three different occasions about our rules and expectations; once when you booked, once when you confirmed your booking a week before the party, and the day of the party itself. Your group all signed our forms agreeing to follow the rules. Your group also agreed by signing on our forms to be financially liable for any damaged property, cut trees, garbage, and refunds issued to customers due to excessive noise. Despite your constant assurances that you would be respectful, quiet, and orderly your group managed to create the single worst incident our campground has ever experienced. You had gathered between 40 and 50 people into a single site and started to party very loudly and obnoxiously. We had to issue multiple refunds to our other guests who could not stand the noise of your party (the first refunds as early as 5pm), you cut down multiple trees (they were not broken, they were clearly cut and we have photos of it), trampled a lot of nice green spaces used to separate sites, left food all over the ground and in the forest (which is a serious problem when we have bears and other wildlife around), you left garbage everywhere and left a ton of logs/wood pallets all over the place, and you made so much noise that we had to move many campers away from your site because they couldn’t tolerate all the noise your group made. We have a policy of quiet time at 11pm and we do not allow campfires past 10pm; however, your group was so loud that other residences in the area called us to complain, the hot springs called to complain, and many campers kept coming to our front desk to complain about your noise levels. Our neighbours from other properties have never called us before with a noise complaint. Your group was loud. At 9:45pm, my partner and I (we’re both the owners of the business), had to personally come to your site and ask your whole group to quiet down. Most of your group were drunk at this point. We calmly explained to you that your noise level was unreasonable and that you would have to quiet down or we would be forced to move quiet time from 11pm to 10pm. Many of your group started to shout obscenities and insults our way, most members of your group were very disrespectful and very drunk. Seeing as your group would not calm down, would not stop yelling disrespectful obscenities, and refused to make less noise, we decided to shut down the party and douse your campfire to bring some order to our property and to stop the incessant screaming and shouting. My partner and I were some of the only sober people present at this point and most of the people were very intoxicated and difficult to talk to. After we doused your fire, your group re-ignited the campfire and we had to douse it again. At no point did we ever “push” or touch any of the people on your site, we were polite and firm when we expressed that the fire had to be put out. We would have asked your group to leave then but your group was too intoxicated to drive and it would have been a safety concern. On four occasions that night we had to come out and tell your group to stop shouting while everyone was trying to sleep. People from your group were drinking alcohol and partying in sites you had not rented. The following morning, we told your group that they had to leave and that they were no longer welcome to stay on our property. It took two members of our staff over an hour to clean up the garbage and damage done to our sites from your group, your sites also stank of vomit. Normally, guests clean up after themselves and put everything in our dumpster and recycling station. We have guests from around the world that travel to the Yukon for a once-in-a-lifetime trip and they expect to be able to sleep quietly without disturbances. We have never had to deal with a group like yours in all our years of operation. We have held many birthday parties for children, teenagers, and adults and in all those cases our guests were able to celebrate at a reasonable noise level and in a respectful manner that did not offend our other campers or cause refunds. After your group left, many campers came to thank us for making you leave our property. You mention rightly that you tried to book the entire campground, but you only made your reservation in June, our campground already had a dozen bookings that were made as far back as October 2017. As mentioned above, many come to the Yukon for a dream vacation and they book with us because we have a good reputation of being a quiet campground. There are many Yukon Government operated campgrounds that allow partying and the noise. We are privately owned and operated, and we take great pride in offering all our customers a reprieve from noisy campgrounds. We try our absolute best to ensure everyone has a friendly and restful experience on our property. If you want to make noise, play loud music, and drink alcohol in large groups, then our campground is the wrong place to do it.

We were in a tent. It was a bit of a walk to get water. Outhouses were small and stinky. Front desk assigned us a spot rather than let us pick. The site itself wasn't bad. It was quiet, roomy, and relatively level. We would stay here again.

We went to the hot spring next door. You get a discount if you camp. It was nothing special, and could stand to be updated. Basically it's just a concrete outdoor pool of warm water. They make you rent flip flops to walk to the pool from the changing rooms if you don’t have your own.

What a great campground. Well treed sites, offering some privacy. Very clean and well run. The staff seem happy and did a great job of explaining everything. Lovely to be able to walk to the wonderful hotsprings and to get a discount when staying at the campground.

We were pulling a 26' trailer. This is a pretty average campground and did offer some greenery between sites. They had great recycling. Water was available only at the front through either a tap/hose or sink. Friendly staff, great service. I'd probably go for a back in site next time. Really patient with our indecisiveness as we settled on a site. Some of the sites were a little awkward, so worth taking a peak at what is available, because the map doesn't necessarily reflect it with great accuracy. The discount to the hot springs was great, and they are SO easy to get to from the site.

It’s nice to have campsites in a woody area with lots of space between sites. The outhouses aren’t pleasant. It’s a 5 minute walk to the hotsprings though but don’t expect to have a hot shower there as it’s a cold room & you only get lukewarm water if you’re lucky when you pull on a rope. WiFi is weak, nonexistent in the site we had. Sorting garbage & recycling is a great thing.

We camped here for 1 night on our way home. The campground is really nice. The sites are well treed and everything is clean. The hot springs were lovely for a soak after a long day on the road. My only complaint would be the 10 pm curfew for putting out your fire. We knew this when we booked and accepted the rules as such. I understand the rule is to discourage loud partying etc however 10 pm is early in June/July when it is daylight till midnight. Most folks were still up visiting past that hour anyhow. The weather was warm that a fire wasn't needed however had it been chilly having a fire until at least 11 would be greatly appreciated especially by tenters.

Should I make a reservation for camping in August?
Answer from Robert T

You'd certainly need a vehicle to get there, They're open all year. They'll also be able to answer any questions about dog sledding and ice fishing. I pasted a paragraph from their website, as follows: During low season (October 1st to April 30th), all reservations must include a check-in time to ensure someone is on site to check you in. 24 hour notice is required for reservations during low season. E-mails and answering machine may only be checked once daily in low season. Hope this helps.
