We stayed for two nights in a king room overlooking beautiful Lake Mindemoya. The room had a king bed and seating area. It was very clean and air conditioned. Our adult son stayed in the adjoining room. The included breakfast offered 5 meal choices. All meals in the restaurant were home cooked and delicious. Angela is the perfect host! We enjoyed coffee on the patio. A tour or the caves on the grounds was interesting and worthwhile. The location is very central to hike the cup and saucer trail, bridal veil falls and Providence Bay. Best restaurant on the Island! Try the Weiner Schnitzel and Whitefish. You won’t be disappointed.

View from our room balcony.

I feel so lucky to have stayed here! The views are hauntingly beautiful and the lake is clear, clean, and cool…perfect for swimming (No weeds!) The sounds are wind, water and birds. Accommodations are simple and pragmatic with good beds and showers. Food was delicious, fresh, and homemade. Hospitality could not be better, and we appreciated staying at a place that is owner operated. The common room of the lodge was time travel at its best! I highly recommend the sauna cabin with an outdoor cooling porch.

We stayed three nights and loved it all. Terrific location for bicycling to different parts of Manitoulin island (including circumnavigating Mindamoya lake). Property has been family-run for 2 generations who have excellent insights, great local knowledge, and solid professionalism is the hospitality business. Everything worked properly even with current COVID-19 pandemic. Lovely food, spacious rooms, great views, and impressive water access. The extra effort throughout showed real dedication from all staff.

Thank you Don for taking the time to write a review . It is very much appreciated . I remember your last day adventure with the bike . Rain all morning . Then in the afternoon you biked back from Misery Bay 75 k and against heavy wind. When I asked you at dinner , how your day was . You said fantastic with a beaming face. Hope to welcome you back .Angela

Our recent stay at Rockgarden Terrace on beautiful Lake Mindemoya was a relaxing and pleasurable experience - their fresh, home cooking + local fish - was delicious! Our room w/balcony + very comfortable bed, was spacious, clean, quiet and offered a wonderful lake view. Next stay, I may try one of the private cabins, as they look quite peaceful. The attentive Argmann family warmly catered to every request, ensuring our stay was as comfortable and rewarding as possible. Highly recommended!

I felt like I was in Europe!

Wonderful breakfasts and dinners, very large rooms. Owners are super accommodating and work their tails off doing everything at the resort.

Very pretty grounds. Activities like chess and bean bag throw, tons of DVDs for rainy nights.

Close to a lovely beach on Lake Mindemoya for those who don't want to walk down the steps to the lake at the resort.

Every room had a lake view and balcony. So pretty!

Would return!

Stayed at the Rock Garden Terrace again this year. Have been there multiple times over the years and it is always good. Nice well kept venue, helpful and friendly staff/owners and fabulous food. The facility is in the middle of the Island so makes it especially nice for day trips to explore the rest of Manitoulin. Two thumbs up, I fully recommend them.

This was the northern terminus of a bicycling trip from Toronto to Manitoulin island. Lovely setting, great food, strong showers, and comfy beds (so snugly they're almost magnetic!). Resort managers are a 3 generation family with super diligence, real smarts, and excellent local knowledge. Overall an ideal place to stay if you want to bicycle around Manitoulin island. We will return.

My family and I arrived well after dinner was served, but Angela (best hostess ever) immediately started to make us dinner! The meals truly were outstanding! Even my picky son was well fed. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the property absolutely beautiful. We are making plans to come back again next year!

This was my third year staying at this resort, and I keep coming back for a reason. The location is in the middle of Manitoulin Island, making it a perfect base of operations for seeing the whole island over the course of several days. The location is also beautiful. The resort is located at the top of a limestone/dolostone bluff (Amabel formation) overlooking Lake Mindemoya, hence the name of the Amabel spa. The resort has a long history, and while the rockgardens, leading down to the water, have not been completely restored yet, the property is large, with a walking trail and a deep water dock at the bottom of the bluff. I have fly fished off the dock and it is great for swimming as well.

The main buildings are the main lodge with dinning facilities, the hotel block, and the spa building. The main lodge has the front desk, a small gift/product shop, the kitchen, laundry, and the dinning room. The dinning room floor is a beautiful polished multi stone constructed by Ellero (I believe) many, many years ago. As the Argmann family own the business, the food has a German slant, and Mom, Angela is a great cook!

Daughter Carmen runs the spa, which consists of the multilevel, multi-temperature hydrotherapy pools, the finnish sauna, and the spa building with the indoor hot hydrotherapy circuit, showers, sauna, and a very relaxing screen porch that overhangs the bluff. In addition to the hydrotherapy you can also partake in a selection of other spa treatments for the body, face, hands, and feet. Personally, the Moor Mud body wrap is my favorite, and gets me so relaxed I could slip into a coma!

The hotel building has 18 rooms I believe, some with doubles, some with a king. My favorite, even though I'm staying alone, is the honey moon suite because it also has a jaccuzzi tub that I love, and a canopied bed. There are also a couple of cottages on the property for larger family stays or two couples.

All in all a very relaxing, peaceful location with great service.

The hydro-jets in the spa are wonderful, especially the Spanish waterfall. The owners are German, everything clean and well organized. The meals are good but not exceptional. As a spa, I would have expected massages and pampering to be available. Also nudity in the sauna (we had to buy an expensive bathing suit) and in the massage pools is not allowed. We suggested "couples" evening hours or if the spa is empty "au naturel" times but apparently public health laws forbid it. The all inclusive room rates are over priced for what one gets

We take all of our Guests comments very seriously as we work incredibly hard to provide each and everyone of our Guests a memorable stay. We would like to respond to comments made by this Guest. Yes, we are European-inspired, but situated on Manitoulin Island. Manitoulin Island has a natural abundance of pristine clear lake water which we must heat for our thermal pools unlike the deep sourced underground hot water available, for example, to spas in Europe. Yes, bathing suits are required attire for our pools, which we advised our guests of when they made their booking and they purchased swimsuits elsewhere, not from us. We offer a wide range of amenities at our resort of very high quality and as such, are also inherently costly to operate and maintain. We hope that our guests choose to stay at our Resort with the desire to enjoy all of our offerings to the fullest. These guests did the following as part of their one-night package stay: arrived at 1 pm and checked into an upper level hotel room with 2 double beds, 4 piece bath, with bathrobes, private balcony and spectacular lake view, and enjoyed an afternoon by the fireplace with free wi-fi service, a hike on our nature trail to the cave and fishing pier, a walk down the historic rockgarden to our 50 ft floating dock, a 3 hour relaxation in our water spa (hydrotherapy indoor spa, sauna, cold pool and sunroom with panorama view), a 3 course evening dinner overlooking the lake, a full hearty breakfast and checked out at 11:30 the next day. We pride ourselves on using only quality products in the preparation of our guest meals and always try to preserve the natural flavours. The cost of their one-night package stay (2 people in the party) was $370 together (plus 7% resort charge and 13% HST). We sincerely believe that our rates are very fair. It is very regrettable to us that even after providing the above services/amenities and in addition allowing for a small senior citizen discount which was requested at time of booking, that we still could not gain the customer’s satisfaction, as we always strive to do the utmost for each and everyone of our customers.

You need to get a key from the front desk. We stayed at the resort and could have the key freely. If you're not staying there, you may have to pay a fee.
