Buena Vista Surf Club is a small secluded, six cabaña, jungle eco-lodge overlooking the surf at Playa Maderas, 8km north of San Juan Del Sur in Nicaragua. Guests here switch off their phones, unwind and give in to the simple life surrounded by the lush forest and the pacific ocean. Stay in a private cabaña amongst the trees, share family-style meals with like-minded people, wake up to early morning yoga, followed by a surf session and stargaze from our 1000 sqft infinity deck nestled in between the jungle overlooking the ocean.

Where to start..... Arrive, unpack and relax. The place was perfect. It is a must stay for people looking to just show up and not have to worry about any logistics. There is a great selection of surf boards to use onsite. The meals were absolutely excellent, the breakfast was very healthy made with fresh locally sourced organic food and dinner each night was amazing and available for an additional fee. In all of our travels Johnny was the best host we have ever met. He was extremely helpful for local suggestions. And can help organize local surf trips if you decide you want to bag a few other surf spots on your trip. Honestly just hanging out with Johnny and having a conversation with coffee will be missed. He did a great job of making everyone feel very welcome and part of the Buena Vista tribe. The views from the main lodge deck were unbeatable. A perfect spot for early morning yoga sesh or sipping cocktails and watching the sun go down. The rooms were clean and very comfortable as well as private. We could go on and on reminiscing about how much we enjoyed our stay at Buena Vista. The only bad thing about staying at Buena Vista is how high it sets the bar for lodging options in Playa Maderas. Once you experience staying here you likely will not find another place that compares. if you make it to San Juan del Sur make sure to grab a Vietnamese coffee at the surf shop! This place has an amazing feeling of being home as you share breakfast, eat a family dinner at night and go out for surf as a group (if you like to). With the super pretty, well-designed private huts in the middle of the nature also gives you the opportunity to zoom-out and relax on your own. Perfect hosts who are passionate about the area, surfing, local crowd and nica-food. Their main goal is to make you feel even more at home! Also the girls in the kitchen doing the cooking are lovely, prepare amazing fresh food and are extremely helpful in case of dietary requirements or just craving something.
The main activity during your stay is surfing, with the beach only a 8 minutes walk away (down, 12 up). Cool people in the beach: the best boy in town is Felipe. Lucky you, he is also a surf teacher and is happy to teach you during your stay! Imagine arriving home after your day of surf (and walk up the hill), watching the sun set from the deck, refresh in the outdoor showers and get ready for a cosy family dinner with the other guests, containing vegetables and good local food!

Loved staying here! Warm people, inviting atmosphere, and beautiful area. Food is excellent and family style meals make it wonderful to connect with other travelers, great for solo travelers and couples. Very accommodating place. Monkeys and nature all around. Makes sleeping in a little hard but you may want to be up early to surf or do yoga anyway. Would definitely come back!

We stayed in a bungalow, the experience was blissful, quiet spot and amazing view, really short walk to Hush the local sunset spot and playa Madera.
Staff was super friendly and helpful, breakfast was so delicious and changed every day.
Will definitely go back!

Loved the place. The views are amazing. The vibe is really good. Need a 4 X 4 to do the last 100m. I had a car so I parked it at the beach. Few requests for the management as I will def be back. Will be good to have hot water. It would be great to have the fans in common area and room changed to ones that run beyond speed 1 :) as it does get hot.

Welp. I had the worst experience at Buena Vista! We showed up after a monstrous drive up the hill to find out that our reservation was nowhere to be find. The woman who answered the door was not only surprised by our arrival but extremely rude. She did nothing to make us feel like we were welcome. She showed us a dirty room and told us she could maybe make up the room for us. I’ve never been treated like this in my entire life!!! It was so bad that we had to find a new hotel at 11pm at night. I would give them no stars if I could.

I think our manager did her best to get the room ready for you when you went for dinner, but the funny thing is instead of letting us know that you weren't going come back you just decided not to... I was extremely happy with my stay at buenavista, and would love to go back! The staff was friendly and accommodating, and I cant forget to mention that the food was great. Our room was exceptionally clean, spacious and the bed was big and super comfortable. The view from their deck was absolutely perfect, especially at night with the stars. Being steps away from Maderas beach and great restaurants like Hush were a plus!

Lovely place. Amazing rooms, staff and vibe! The staff are outstanding and will help you with anything you need. Felipe gives amazing surf lessons and Adaly gives outstanding massages. Oh, and breakfast is SUPER yummy. I loved my stay and I hope I can come back soon!

The design of BVSC is very dramatic, with an expansive deck overlooking the trees and the ocean beyond. (Hopefully no one will ever lose their footing too close to this uncontained deck's edge. ) The hip young Dutch couple behind this "resort" are friendly and eager to make your stay enoyable. However...the open cabins are set too low in the trees to receive any ocean breeze, which made our stay in May very uncomfortable. The room beneath the main house, where our kids stayed, was like an oven, even during the 2 hrs. of the day when the generator, and therefore the fans, were running. The water pressure is weak. The food was unquestionably subpar - lunch, which our hosts graciously delivered to us at Playa Madera, 5 min. away from the resort, consisted of processed ham and cheese, cold fried eggs, or leftover chicken breast on dry bread. Ten dollars per person. Guests do not have access to the kitchen at BVSC and our hosts mentioned instances of food-poinsoning from the only restaurant nearby (at Playa Maderas). We left BVSC early, having paid for our stay anyway, and spent the rest of our time in San Juan Del Sur in a beautiful house overlooking the ocean, with a pool, a cook, and A/C. It was significantly cheaper.

Unfortunately we can't accept kids under 16 at the hotel.
We would be able to offer you our separate rental house (Oleada) next door. That would be self catered, but we can of course still help you with transportation, surf lessons, etc.
