I've just returned from Venice, & had stayed 3 nights at the Bauer Palazzo. My room was huge with 3 large windows looking towards St Mark's Square. It was an unforgettable treat to open the shutters & draw back the curtains to watch the sun slowly rise over the lagoon.
Practicalities: My bedroom and bathroom were huge, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. No tea/coffee making facilities, & the room safe was operated by a key, not an electonic code. Plenty of hangars and draw space, & re-charging points (2 pin) for phone/kindle. Big fluffy dressing gown & slippers, hairdryer but no make up mirror.
Breakfast was ample, with hot & cold choices, as well as a large range of different breads and pastries. The over cooked bacon was a bit like eating very thin shoe leather, but the scrambled eggs were rich and creamy.
Staff: Without exception they were all delightful and completely professional. The concierge's were all very helpful when helping me plan a walking route for the day. They also provided a free water taxi to & from a glass factory in Murano.
Information Points:
The nearest vaporetto stop is San Marco Vallaresso, and NOT San Marco.
Currently the Gallery of Modern Art (Ca'Pesaro) is closed for restoration, and no date has been set for reopening.

Yes, it’s expensive, but the level of service, quality of room, dining, and location make it worth it. You’re probably only in Venice once! We enjoyed dinner at De Pisis and breakfast is on a terrace overlooking the grand canal. I cannot speak higher of the wait staff and front desk. Our bathroom is covered in solid marble and we have a balcony with seating. Light sleepers, this room style has electronic blackout shades! Pro Tip: Due to building age, no iron provided but housekeeping will press/dry clean for a charge.

There is no need to repeat how good (and expensive) this hotel is despite looking old. We paid £1700 for a deluxe room overlooking the small canal (we could hear the gondoliers singing) for 4 nights. Room 344. We were very confortable and it was rather spacious. The shower was excellent, good water pressure; the TV was too small to watch, perhaps they will provide big ones after renovation. The breakfast was excellent overlooking Santa Maria della Salute. It is central and the service second to none. It is expensive (we had 2 caprese salads and two tiramisu in the bedroom for £66 plus £15 room service). The main restaurant is very expensive and the cover charge is £15 (a ridiculous amount) I recommend to go next door (L'ombre del leone) or Bar Foscherini. Venice is a very, very expensive museum and a tourist trap. You will not eat at a restaurant for less than £100 for two. We had two salads and two gingerini at the Bienale for £46.. In any case, we will come back in 2 years when it has been renovated. But this hotel is 5 stars because of every single member of staff and I hope that the owners and managers value them.

Formerly one of the three great palace hotels of Venice, the Bauer seems to have lost it’s way since the original owners sold it prior to the pandemic.

The location is superb, and the lobby retains a certain mid century chic, however, the rooms are small and shabby and the bathrooms patched and mended.

The internal breakfast room is an awkward mix of palazzo and IKEA, and now feels mildly schizophrenic and faded to the point of dowdiness.

The once sumptuous breakfast buffet also feels bit tired and stale albeit the waiters were courteous and efficient. As in most of Italy, little effort was made to accommodate guests on a plant based diet, or those trying to eat less sugar.

The business centre is literally a broom cupboard off the lobby containing an old PC, whilst the WiFi is a best intermittent.

I love Venice and am a fan of faded European glamour, but the Bauer’s pricing is based on the glories of its past, not the reality of the present.

My partner and I spent three nights at Bauer Palazzo. The hotel is in a great location, and we loved spending the mornings on the terrace overlooking the Grand Canal. The concierge, Paulo, was incredibly knowledgable. We loved listening to his stories, and his help making restaurant bookings made our trip absolutely carefree. The entire staff is friendly and attentive. I highly recommend staying here!

Our stay at the Bauer for eight nights was wonderful. The entire staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Our suite was gorgeous and spacious. The concierge helped us with many requests, and the location is simply the best in Venice. It was our fourth time in Venice and, although an undoubtedly beautiful city and one of the most unique places on the planet, the overwhelming amount of tourism and the confusion of the Covid rules made our time quite stressful, overall. Staying at the Bauer was the highlight of the trip, in fact, because it provided us with a level of comfort, quiet, and premium service that allowed us to rest and recuperate between our tours and other engagements in Venice. Highly recommended if you have never visited Venice before or even if you are returning again --- the Bauer is worth every penny.

Luxurious hotel in great location
Review of Bauer Palazzo
Pending review

The Bauer Palazzo is a beautiful and luxurious hotel situated two minutes from St Mark's Square. The Doge Palace is 3 minutes away and the major sights such as the Academy of Art, Peggy Guggenheim, Opera House and the Rialto bridge are short walks away. There are countless excellent restaurants close by but to get the best prices avoid the main squares and go down the narrow side streets.

The staff are exceptional and couldn't have been more helpful. The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable and I couldn't find any faults. This is a 5 star hotel so the extras are expensive (150 euros for a Jacuzzi!) but if you avoid the mini bar and champagne in your room you'll be fine.

We travelled during Carnevale, which added to the magic of Venice. Masked and costumed visions wafted around the streets, stopping for photos and gliding off into winding alleys. This added a wonderful sense of drama to an already mystical and evocative city.

My husband and I travelled to Italy in August for my 40th birthday and I planned to have my actual day in Venice. In researching places to stay, the Bauer caught my eye, with its spectacular location and photos of the rooms showing the beautiful rich colors and fabrics which give that real romantic and luxurious appeal. I couldn’t resist and booked a suite for 3 days.

As it was a milestone birthday, I wanted something special and boy, did I get it!
On arrival to this beautiful hotel, we were met by the warm, friendly staff who checked us in and walked us to the elevator, where we were advised we had been upgraded and I was wished a very happy birthday.

The suite was something else, with a small balcony overlooking the terrace and canal, separate living area, enormous bedroom and bathroom, and decorated in beautiful gold tone fabrics. I felt like I was in a movie scene when my husband popped the cork on the champagne, left as a welcome / birthday gift from the hotel, and opened the balcony doors to watch and hear the gondoliers singing in the canals. What an exceptional experience!

From the moment we set foot in the Bauer, we were catered for hand and foot by the incredible staff, from reception, the concierge, breakfast staff and terrace staff, everyone was so attentive and more than happy to assist. Everything was perfect, such a beautiful experience and one I will never forget and treasure forever!

Thank-you to all at the Bauer, you will always have my recommendation as the number 1 establishment to stay in beautiful Venice and I will definitely return.

I am sure that once upon a time this was a grand hotel basking in the glory of it’s wonderful canal front location. Sadly this must have faded from the memory just as the appalling drab interiors have faded over the years. I note from other reviews that a significant renovation is planned, my advice is stay well away until this has been completed.
We arrived for our honeymoon at what was billed as a 5* hotel. Having been lucky enough to stay at many truly top end hotels we couldn’t have been more disappointed. From the reception experience which was truly impersonal, forgetting my request for a bottle of Prosecco to be sent to the room for my wife. To no-one showing us to our room (unheard of in any other 5* establishment). We walked through corridors reminiscent of Soviet era Belgrade to our ‘superior suite’. The room was astonishingly bad with the feel of a run down nursing home! Drab furnishings, totally dark, the only windows on to an internal shaft, no water in the room, not even a cushion or bed throw! If this was a 3* hotel in 1970’s Torquay I would still have walked out let alone a 5* offering in 2022.
Having returned to reception the vaguely disinterested member of the management team we spoke to told us that all there rooms were ‘old’ and that they were full so there was little chance of relocating us during our stay. No word of apology though!
Luckily we had booked through BA Holidays and there help desk was superb. Within an hour and a half of calling they had cancelled the Bauer booking and relocated us to the nearby Metrople. This hotel is superb in every regard and just along the canal so save yourself a dreadful experience and book here not the Bauer!!

We stayed for the weekend in January, what a great time to come bright sunny days and crisp and cold with no crowds of summer. We arrived by water taxi from the airport, the only way to do it surely, check in was seamless and the two rooms we had were both lovely we took my mother in law. The rooms both had great views and the staff at breakfast were very attentive and professional. Breakfast was lovely. Great position to explore venice. Highly recommended.
