Grand Hotel Europa Palace garners appreciation for its grandeur and vintage charm, especially its belle époque stylings, though guests have called out the need for updates in the bath areas. The cleanliness of the establishment receives commendations, but opinions on value are split, with the prime location and food quality weighed against additional costs and occasional overbooking. While the service is generally lauded for staff friendliness, some delays have been noted. The rooms offer generous space and scenic views, but echo the call for modernization, a sentiment also reflected in views on the amenities.

Me and my Grandparents come to italy every single year, and have done for the last 8 years, ever time we have come, we stayed in the grand hotel royal, which has been getting increasingly expensive every year, and then it finally managed to up its rating to a 5 star and doubled its prices so we chose to stay at its neighboring hotel; the grand hotel europa palace and boy were we happy, the service was impeccable from the start, as most of the guests off the flight arrived at the hotel at the same time instead of all of us grouping up in the check in area, they offered us fresh fruit juices and a seat on the terrace while we waited. the rooms were well cleaned with dressing gowns, slippers, a fridge and a safe all available as well as a table and chairs on the balcony. Honestly, nothing here was too much to ask, the staff were always very polite and the maitre d always had a smile on his face no matter the situation, being extremely helpful and kind. every guest here is treated as royalty. The pool and beach facilities were also excellent, with many sunbeds provided swimming caps and a snack bar, where you could have sandwhiches and paninis ordered to your sunbed. if you were feeling a bit more peckish you amble over to the restraunt area where they will make and cook stone baked pizzas infront of you, which taste absolutely fantistic, better than most pizzas in the town. At dinner the service is always impeccable and you never feel like you're waiting for a meal, they bring an appetiser which seem like random things just thrown together, but some how the chef always makes the flavours compliment each other and is an opportunity to try new things if thats what you like. There is a new menu every single night which gives you plenty of choice and i havent had a single meal that i havent thoroughly enjoyed however that isnt even the best part, the dessert chef is honestly out of this world and every dessert ive had has made me blown away, it seems like everytime i have one it gets better and better. in conclusion it has been one of the most fun stays out of my 8 years here and ive loved every second of it and would highly recommend it to everyone else questioning staying here.

This hotel is large but a bit soul less, and needs updating. The breakfast terrace area was lovely and the breakfast was good, wonderful cappuccino. The staff were very attentive at breakfast and the buffet was served as per covid safety rules. The bedroom was a good size with a little Juliette balcony , the shower room was practical and the bed linen/towels replaced every day and good quality. The main drawback is only 1 socket in the room. The pool area and bathing jetty area and access lift/tunnel also needs some refurbishment. The location is excellent for town centre and railway/bus station and the hotel and room were quiet. Good value for money.

Beautiful old hotel with a great location but it does let itself down in some ways. I dont know whether 4 star means something else in Italy but I'm not sure this one lives up to that. The room decor was a little tired but it was very clean, with the bathroom being very small, no tea/coffee facilities in the room.

However, the location and views are exceptional with access to the jetty making up for a lot of things. The staff can be a little brusque but they were helpful enough. Location is everything with this hotel as the centre is only a walk away as is the train station and access to the ferries.

I would go back, if only for the views and to enjoy that fantastic jetty again

The views from the hotel terrace were beautiful and the room was kept really clean, we were thinking of booking again in the future until I was actually shouted at by a very rude man on reception! We had really enjoyed our time in Sorrento until the very last minute, we had a early morning transfer to the airport and upon going to reception to check out found that it was empty, dark and quiet, we decided to leave the room key at the reception desk as there wasn't a soul around and didn't want to miss the transfer. I realised a minute after leaving that I had left my bag, as I walked back in to get it a man shouted at me "Who are You? What are you doing?, I tried to explain that we had left the key as there was no one around but he would not let me speak, he shouted" You have to wait, you have to pay! I tried again to explain that we had booked a package holiday and had already paid, he was so rude I felt like a school child being scolded by a teacher, after checking our booking and by this time my husband had come back in we were told we had to pay tourist tax, which I did not mind even though I thought it was included in the price we paid. The whole experience has ruined my memory of what should have been a wonderful trip to Sorrento that we had been looking forward to for eighteen months, will definitely not stay there again!!

We spent a week in this lovely charming hotel, its location is superb been 5 minute walk to centre of Sorrento, 3 minute walk to train station and private access to the sea.
The staff are all extremely helpful and efficient, always smiling and ensuring your stay is excellent.
Breakfast offers a good selection of pastries, fruit, cereal, hot and cold buffet, we also ate lunch most days, we would go up from pool and eat on the terrace upstairs which offered a small menu of salads or sandwiches but was well priced and food was always excellent.
We had a sea view room downstairs, it was large room with very high ceiling and period furniture, it had a lovely balcony over looking the harbour which was lovely to sit out on and watch the busy activity below. The room was very comfortable with a good size bathroom, it was clean and attended to each day.
The pool was an excellent size with plenty of beds and chairs, staff ensured there was clean towels available and the area was always kept spotless. There is also a snack bar down by the pool, we didn't use this and we use to go back up to the main terrace for lunch.

Loved the hotel. I stopped here for 10 days in July. The staff were so friendly and helpful, always available and such a decent team, even the hotel cat was friendly. I stayed in a single room. Before I booked I was a bit wary about how it would be having a single bed and a smaller room. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The room patio doors opened onto a terrace and was clearly part of the original hotel, not the annex I’d read about. It was handy to be able to leave swimming shorts out to dry as it got the sun in the afternoon.
The room was very quiet, the bed was comfy, the room had a key operated safe and I slept very well and had no complaints about comfort.
The breakfast was substantial, again very well managed by the staff. Fruit, breads, cakes all available. In the daytime I used the pool and the beach jetty section for sun bathing. They are accessed via a lift from the hotel annex, or steps, Being on my own I always got a bed as there seemed plenty available. Drinks and food could also be ordered from each location. My only gripe would be the pool with kids inflatables, beach balls dominating the space, parents seemed completely oblivious to it. The other issue was I also saw guests putting towels on sun beds and disappearing for hours. No one seemed to discourage this selfish behaviour. I saw a young couple put towels down and go off to play cards in the shade! The towels were left in place. The beach jetty section was quieter with no kids so I tended to use that or use the pool later in the day when families had all gone.
The hotel food was excellent. The evening meals were a bonus I wasn’t expecting to use. At €40 they compared very well with other restaurants locally and you have the addition of being able to sit on the terrace which is only for guests. I enjoyed sitting out on the terrace after a meal with a drink watching the lights around the bay.
The location was ideal for me, around the hotel there are a couple of restaurants and bars within 5 mins walk, and a supermarket. The main town is also not far, but a lot more crowded so I tended to use the hotel as it was a hassle sometimes with crowds in the centre of Sorrento, the hotel was like a little oasis. I would totally recommend the hotel, I found I spent more time using the facilities as it was so good. I would look to book evening meal as part of my stay if I had my time again.
I loved it!

This hotel is in an excellent location for the train and bus station, Sorrento centre and the port. The hotel has the added advantage of a pool and a jetty with a little beach, for which the majority of hotels do not have, they also provide pool towels. We had a room on the first floor with a small juliet balcony, overlooking the road, but this was fine, as with the doors closed, you couldn't hear any traffic. Our room was spacious with adequate storage, a safe and good air con, bring your own travel kettle, cups, tea and coffee if you like a brew, there is a fridge minibar in the room, but I just took out the their bottles of things, and put my own stuff in. The bathroom was small, but had a bath, shower, toilet and bidet, and plenty of toiletries which were replenished, the hairdryer was pretty powerful as well. We were on bed & breakfast, and there was a good choice of food, pastries, breads, fruit, cold meats, vegetables, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, baked beans, fruit juice, tea and coffee. There are so many restaurants in Sorrento serving pizzas, which are delicious and have so many wonderful toppings that you don't find in the UK, pastas and seafood. I would suggest bringing an extension lead, as there seems to be only one plug in the room. There is a supermarket 5 minutes walk from the hotel, where you can buy milk, water, snacks etc. If I was to return to Sorrento, I would stay at the Grand Europa Palace Hotel in a heartbeat.

Stayed here 30/08/20 and had a wonderful holiday. The hotel was excellent and the staff were amazing, very helpful and attentive nothing was too much trouble. the hotel itself is typically Italian which some people may find old fashioned but it was spotlessly clean with the most amazing views over the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. Breakfast was a little sparse but evening meals were excellent with a choice of 3 starters 3 main courses including a chefs starter. The restaurant service was impeccable led by the very friendly Francesco and his team we were looked after very well. Sadly there wasnt a wine list, however the local house white and red were good. The only thing I would change would be tea/coffee facilities in the bedrooms as they're weren't any so unless this changed I would take a travel kettle next time. This was an extremely special holiday for me as my partner proposed to me on the balcony of our room so we hope to return next year to celebrate our marriage with a group of family and friends

We stayed at the hotel for a week in August this year as 2 couples. The hotel set on the cliffs with a wonderful terrace overlooking the beautiful sea water pool which I would highly recommend. There is also access via a private lift down to the sea and a jetty overlooking the water right next to the port which is busy. We swam in the sea once during our visit but I must admit I preferred swimming in the pool as it’s less contaminated with fuel from the many boats going in and out of the port..
The hotel itself is beautifully furnished and although our room was a little bit dated we slept very well on the beds provided. Our room was in the hotel itself and was perfectly fine. The other couple in our party had a room in the Annex part of the hotel and they did have significant problems with their bed in fact it actually collapsed.
The food is served at the hotel and we were on half board was very very good. Plenty of variety all fresh ingredients beautifully cooked, and they even catered very thoughtfully for my daughter-in-law who has gluten intolerance issues.. But the best part of our trip was undoubtedly the splendid staff. They were all extremely polite and thoughtful and courteous in the treatment of visitors. We would certainly return to this hotel is only just seen them again.
It is a bit of a hike from the hotel into the main square of Sorrento so anyone who has mobility issues I would not suggest this hotel was the easiest positioned That being said access to the bus station was immediately opposite the hotel and it was a very quick walk down to the port for boat excursions.

The hotel is everything you expect from a 4 star on the coast of Sorrento. The executive suite with sea view is absolutely stunning, with the small balconies opening directly on the bay. Decorated with classic taste and very spacious, it offers all the comforts you might expect at the price (it is pricey indeed). The service is on par with the settings, friendly, courteous and effective. There is a good size swimming pool and a private access to a platform on the beach (actual beach front in Sorrento is a rarity) accessible directly via a lift, private to the hotel customers. Breakfast is meets the expectations with variety of baked goods, fruit and continental offers, and it is served on a gorgeous terrace with a stunning sea view . Overall an exceptional choice for a stay in Sorrento

Is there tea or coffee facilities in rooms?
Answer from David B
Worcester, United Kingdom4 contributions
No unfortunately not, I’m fact due to it being a “historical building” there were no plugs in the room apart from the 2 behind the dressing table, both of which were already being used. We had to request an extension lead from reception to use for charging phones and using any electrical items

Hi Denise, we stayed the last week in October for the school half term. The pool was shut by then. To be honest, it was in the shade all day so the sea was more preferable anyway. The jetty was lovely thought, so after the initial disappointment of no pool, the sea made up for it. I know the jetty was due to shut end of October.
