I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone under 35. Older than that maybe not! The best thing first which is the roof terrace. This is gorgeous, great bar with good cocktails and really fast efficient service, a small ( like very small) plunge pool, more than 4 would be a crowd. For cooling off not swimming. All in all a great place to escape heat and crowds and relax.
Now for the not so good if you are over 35! Firstly you will be older than everyone else. The location is similar to being right on Oxford street or Piccadilly Circus so neither beautiful and leafy nor quiet. You are surrounded by cinemas, theatres, clubs etc. Loud Rock music greet you at the entrance and there is a queue of people outside waiting to get in to the roof top bar. Wether you like the decor is of course subjective, but it is not for the faint hearted. The breakfast is disappointing, orange juice not freshly squeezed, shortage of bread, jam in little packets and not very good. You make your own coffee in a machine.
The Staff however are fantastic, super helpful, super efficient and friendly. They really work hard, particularly those in the roof top bar.
In conclusion I would say for anyone young who wants to be near the nightlife and shopping and are looking for something cool and funky this is the hotel for you.
For us, a couple in our 60’s, next time we would choose a prettier quieter area with slightly calmer decoration and a more delicious breakfast. This is not a criticism of the hotel which I would say serves its core market very well, it is more of a caveat for anyone like ourselves who might feel as if they have gatecrashed their children’s party by mistake!

We stayed at Room Mate Macarena Gran Via during our Honeymoon in July and it felt like luxury! The rooftop bar has unbeatable sunset views with delicious cocktails and was something we hit up nightly. The pool is quite small, but it was very refreshing on a hot summer day. The interior design of the reception and dining area are stunning and was one of the reasons we were drawn to this hotel. Our room was clean, had a small view of Gran Via, and had ample closet space for our belongings. We had an iron and ironing board delivered to our room upon request and opted for room cleaning service only once during our stay for environmental reasons, but it was refreshing and well cared for. Reception was helpful in answering questions in both English and Spanish. The location is right on Gran Via and we were able to walk to almost anything we needed, and when we needed a cab we never waited long. We hadn’t realized how busy and touristy Gran Via was upon booking - not quite our taste but also not the fault of the hotel. It felt like a respite entering our hotel from the business of the street right outside. Overall we were happy with our choice and will be keeping Room Mate hotels in mind for our future adventures!

First of all, the location is absolutely amazing but the staff and hotel features are what makes this hotel so good! I cannot speak highly enough of the agents I encountered and spoke to. From Sophie, Eva, Gonzalo, Manuela, Mario, Maria and Laura - there customer service skills and dealing with a non spanish speaker was excellent! My first time in Madrid and I can say I am going to go back and the only place I’d stay is Room Mate Macerena! The roof top has some of the best views in Madrid and would highly recommend watching the sun set from the bar with a Gin and Tonic in hand!
With the currently situation worldwide, the hotel provided all the necessary PPE for the staff and customers staying in the hotel with sand sanitations around the property and the appropriate screens where needed.
Can’t wait to go back and stay here again!!

We spent two very nice nights at the Room Mate Macarena. The rooms are compact but functional, well thought-out – and electric blue. The location is in the bustling heart of the city, very conveniently located. The hotel has a hip vibe, with music thumping at the entrance around the clock, but the rooms were quiet (windows going out on the back). The roof terrace with a tiny pool and a fabulous view over Madrid is a highlight. This hotel is definitely for the glam crowd. (We went as a family, and that wasn't always a perfect fit.) It can feel a bit like living in someone's instagram account. It's definitely fun, the service was friendly, and the location couldn't be better.

The staff was very accommodating and professional. They were always there to assist and we excited to do so. The breakfast was amazing. The views were amazing. The accommodations were amazing. We booked two separate rooms because we have teenagers and they made sure the rooms were close to one another. The location is central making it easier to travel everywhere. Highly recommend.

Stayed for 5 nights and had a lovely stay. Our room faced gran via but we had great soundproofing and the internal noise was low as well. Seemingly 20 mins walk to everywhere. The bathroom area is both small and some (me) would have liked a toilet door that actually shut for that little bit of privacy. Would happily stay again though

Wonderful friendly staff, great location , central to museums, parks, shopping, restaurants and more. Easy to access metro, breakfast was well worth the price, and roof top patio was a great place to unwind at the end a a day of site seeing. Busy area , but safe and fun to walk around.

Stayed at the hotel recently with my wife. It was extremely clean and the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The breakfast was very tasty and I couldn't fault it. The restaurant was on the top floor and you could see the city from the windows or even go for a stroll on the balcony. It is so central and within walking distances to many of the places we wanted to visit eg Royal Palace and Prado museum. I would use this hotel again.

Lovely hotel. Top class location on the busiest street in the city. You can walk everywhere in the city. My room overlooked the street and initially I was concerned about noise (as it’s busy 24/7) but this hotel has about the best soundproofing I’ve ever seen. The windows block out pretty much all the noise. Despite the hotel being very busy I didn’t hear a sound from neighbouring rooms. There is building work going on and from speaking to other guests it sounds like some were disturbed by construction noise - I asked when booking to be situated away from it and this was honoured. The staff are very helpful. Room design may not appeal to everyone as bathroom is in the room, but worked for me. Room was very clean. Breakfast was really good with lots of choice, and available until midday. View from both terraces was great. There is a small pool (more like a plunge pool than anything you can swim in) but better than nothing. Would definitely stay again next time back in Madrid.
