Hotel's Favourite
The positives about Ballesta are obvious. It is at a good location. Just north of Gran Via and very central. It is a recently renovated accomodation that is tastefully decorated. I check in was easy, though the person at the front desk knew no English. The lobby seems spacious and comfortable. Noise from the street was non existent for my room in the rear of the building. The main problem involved the lack of noise insulation between rooms. Noise seemed to be easily conveyed via gaps in the doors and walls. While the noise wasn't usually loud, it was more often audible. During normal waking hours, it was not a problem. However, locals sometimes (weekend nights) seem to enjoy talking most of the night long resulting to audible conversations in the early morning hours. Also, a refrigerator in the room would have been preferred.

Pleasant and comfortable stay. We felt very good and the price was very good. Pleasant location and close to the tourist area.
Clean and everything in order!
The staff was very helpful by keeping our luggage until check out. And this without extra payment. Thank you!

The hotel is in a good location, room was clean and we paid a good price. I would’ve liked to have given this 5 stars but the only downfall was that the cleaner woke us up around 8am each morning having loud conversations outside our room and slamming doors in the corridor etc. Seeing as we are on holiday we would’ve preferred to not be woken up every day as being sleepy had an impact on our trip, so maybe a later start time or asking them to be quieter would be a bit better. There are some lady’s of the night that linger outside the hotel and on the street outside which could be intimidating for some but they were harmless. Over all good stay for the price.

I was very happy staying in this hotel. Mrs Chelo and her collegues were helpful, allowed me and my business partners to store loads of luggage for as long as we needed, they gave us advice on where to go and what to do in the city... The hotel is clean and simple and doesn´t have a restaurant, however, it´s in the heart of Madrid and thus there are tonnes of places right outside the door. They have a free business corner to use including a printer. Free wifi everywhere. I would suggest this hotel to young people and business professionals, although a family or an elderly couple would surely enjoy their stay, too. Btw: The price we paid was more than fair! Definitely staying here next time I'm in Madrid.

Hostal Ballesta has a great location just off Gran Via, The rooms have everything you could need for a short break, they're small but cosy. The hotel reception/tv lounge is great especially in the winter, we often sat by the fire to warm up. I have noticed on some reviews people have complained about the prostitutes on the road leading to the hotel, unfortunately like most cities Madrid also has a red light district and if you want a central location this is one of the things you have to put up with. Overall the staff were amazing and the hotel was clean. I would definitely stay here next time I visit Madrid.

I stayed at this hotel with my mother and son. It was very clean and great located right near the Main Street gran via. No food at the hotel but a lot of places to eat right outside. The staff are very nice. All you need to have a great low budget vacation. There are some prostituts outside but they don't bother you and they are anywhere at night anyway

A basic hotel, modern, clean, good wifi and very well located close to the centra of madrid. Despite being so close to the centre it's off a side street and so surprisingly quiet for its location. Hotel itself has tiled floors so noise travels from other parts of the building (ie. Take earplugs for a good nights sleep). Otherwise I can't fault this hotel. Great value for money for a European capital

Very nice hotel. Good location for a visit to Madrid. Close to everything you want to see. Neighborhood has nearby small restaurants with good, simple food. Short walks to major tourist sites like Plaza Madrid and Plaza del Sol.

The immediate neighborhood of the hotel is "interesting" but we never felt at risk at all.

Don’t worry about not speaking Spanish. Everyone in the world speaks English including the guys at this hotel. I had a room with a balcony but you may need to ask. Mind you, there is no view whatsoever unless you like looking at cheap ladies of the day and night! I hope you have comers see the city as opposed to the hotel. It’s nice but nothing special. Booking in time I think was after midday but they will hold your bag whatever time you arrive. No parking facility whatsoever. Just find a car park nearby. I suggest you use google maps before arriving. This hotel is in a back street although quite close to the metro so a good location.
