We were booked into sister hotel Catalonia Born but when we arrived there we were down trodden because whilst struggling to get my wheelchair off the train someone managed to get into my bag and take all the cash out of my wallet, quite a bit of cash as we had also been to Hungary and the UK so 3 different currencies with euros. We also wanted an extra night which Born could not do, so reception contacted Plaza and they not only had a suitably accessible room but also honoured the rates which I had booked Born at. They also provided a taxi for our move. The Plaza is a beautiful hotel in the best location in town, Catalunya square. All the tours and tour busses start fro here, La Rambla runs right through it, it is also the start point for many city busses, has disabled access to the underground plus it's the terminal for the city airport bus. The staff were kind and considerate to a fault, even allowing me to use the service lift as it was comfier with my wheelchair. Many major landmarks are in walking distance, old town, Rambla, port, aquarium and museums, even the Sagrada Familia is not too far.The room was perfect, clean, nicely decorated and appointed. Good fridge with minibar and aircon that worked properly and cleaned perfectly every day. This was the shining jewel which went a long way to redeeming a tainted holiday. I have been in very high end 5 star hotels which would struggle to match this one.

Excellent choice. The views from the rooftop pool and bar are breathtaking The reception staff were courteous and helpful at all times We didn’t eat at the hotel there are so many cafes and bars around and a Starbucks 3 minute walk away for coffee. The rooms Do have tea facilities which is a lovely touch and not seen much anymore Room service and cleaning was impeccable The bar staff upstairs were a little slow at night you can wait 45 mins for a drink but they worked hard Olga makes The best strawberry mojito ever she’s lovely. Highly recommended if I ever went back to Barcelona I would definitely stay here it’s so central

We stayed for one night, just before New Year’s Eve, 2020. On arrival, our room was upgraded by Ruben. Dimitris was delightful and quickly resolved any problems we had. Jaume offered good and entertaining service at the bar (followed later by Federico) and the food in the restaurant was delicious. The beds were extremely comfortable and the room had a little balcony which overlooked the street. Within a minute, you were in Plaza Catalunya so the location was perfect. All in all, a lovely hotel that we would definitely recommend.

Location of the hotel is excellent, just a few steps from Catalunya Square. Room was not as advertised, see attached photos which show poor quality of accommodation. It is a hotel of two halves, one part refurbished, the other a very poor relative…at the same price. The photographs on the website are, obviously, of the nicer part, Reception staff stated that only the best rooms are shown online! The room we were allocated was not as advertised, cramped, no seating, no proper hanging wardrobes , holes in flooring and mismatched poor quality furniture, but staff just claimed it was the correct room type ; this was clearly a frequent complaint because their response was always the same - ‘all of our rooms are the same!’ There are thousands of hotels in Barcelona, choose a different one.

Very efficient and friendly staff. Gaston at the reception was extremely kind and pleasant, helping with luggage’s and taxis. The staff was very quick and helpful in recommending restaurants and being courteous, they even found my phone charger that I had accidentally left in the room and they had kept it for me. The restaurant had very good quality food. The room was silent and comfortable. The breakfast was amazing , with a lot of variety and very fresh (included unlimited freshly squeezed orange juice, many fruits and anything you can think of. The only negative point of this hotel is that it is not cosy. The rooms have wooden floors, the corridors have wooden floors, it is minimalist and feels a bit like a hospital. Stayed here for 2 nights and I did appreciated the central location and the fact you can reach any place very easily by foot or taxi. My little terrace overlooking the pool was also a good touch.
But the price paid for this hotel (more than 220 Euros a night) is not worth the bucks. Room is rather small, lighting is okay, no real desk to work on if you need one.
Bathroom was large but many issues with water in the sink, not draining properly. Also no kleenex tissue box provided which isn’t normal for a 4* hotel. The room wasn’t really clean upon arrival as well.
Housekeeping staff loud in the morning in the hallways.
Breakfast room was huge with large round table (for what?). Food choice was okay. Staff was unfriendly and looked bored. Front desk staff was nice but a bit slow for checking me in. Overall an average stay and I got better value in other hotel brands in central Barcelona. Will not comeback.

I spend there 4 nights. The location of the hotel is amazing, just next Rambla and subway. The breakfast is incredible (there is really a lot of stuff , 5 breaks, eggs, meat product, cerals, salmon, ..) but you have to eat in the basement. The hotel is nevertheless quite old (rooms have this typical spanish wood) and picture do not show that. The cleaning product had a characteristic smell this I did not appreciated at all (and you smell it everywhere) The price of the drinks inside the room is a real kill. So I will say this place has an interest/price not negligeable but there are really some bad point.

This is the third time we have stopped here. The service continues to be excellent. The staff are consistently helpful, professional and so happy to help. The location of the hotel is superb and the pool area, pool staff and food are also excellent. The rooms are comfortable and well furnished with classy yet understated decor and good quality toiletries available for use. The hotel bar is wonderful and from start to finish can be recommended. This hotel does everything brilliantly.

Stayed 4 nights at this hotel and was totally blown away. The staff was very nice and polite and always greeted us with a smile. The rooms were well kept, modern, comfortable and more importantly, very clean. Also enjoyed the nice balcony. The buffet breakfast was really good and the omelette bar was a nice touch. Mini fridge in the room was not cold at all so we ordered a few buckets of ice and they were always delivered within 5-10 mins which was great. The pool was a decent size, lots of lawn chairs and nice bar. Location is also perfect! 2 mins walk from Catalynia and La Rambla and access to metro stations all around. I highly recommend this hotel!

Staying at the Catalonia Plaza hotel in early May 2021. don’t Book this hotel. Only one person working at the reception, no one answers the phone , aircon is turned off. Owners seem to believe that it’s ok to provide one star service in a 4 star hotel.

Yes! There was a tea kettle to boil water along with tea cups, tea, and sugar. I loved being able to make a cup of tea every morning! We had a room with three twin beds.
