This hotel is average in appearance from the street. It is not flashy. The lobby has an adequate amount of seating. The front desk employees are friendly and helpful. The bellman will hail you a cab if you ask.

There are different levels of rooms. We had 2 rooms. A standard double room which had been renovated and had 2 twin beds. The room was small but clean. If you have a lot of luggage, the quarters may be tight.

The second room was a premium room on the 9th floor. It was significantly larger but also had 2 twin beds pushed together. There was more space for your personal items. The bathroom was clean. It featured a large shower with 2 shower heads( a hand held and an overhead rainfall shower head). There were separate controls if you didn’t wish to use both. The room featured 2 complimentary water bottles In a small fridge. There was also a kettle with Nescafé coffee and teas.

The hotel features a buffet breakfast which was plentiful featuring eggs, fresh fruit, potatoes, sausages, cheeses, cold cuts, breads, yogurt, pastries, vegetables, juices and delicious coffees. The breakfast was enjoyable

Finally, the location of the hotel was ideal. The sagrada familia was walkable and the metro is across from the hotel. The metro is very easy to utilize.

The short review is: If you’ve decided that this looks good for your needs and budget but you’re worried that sometimes less expensive hotels can be, in fact, cheap hotels, then just book it. My wife and I spent 6 happy, comfortable nights here in June with absolutely zero complaints.

Like many hotels rooms, you enter into a short hallway with bathroom on one side. The room proper is about 9x18 feet. The lighting is thoughtfully designed, with many options including bright recessed ceiling lights, individual bedside lamps and reading lights. There was a small refrigerator. In a hot, humid June, the air conditioning was extremely effective. We both found the bed to be very comfortable. We were on the street side of the hotel, 3rd floor, but street noise was unnoticed, and light-blocking curtains meant our room remained in darkness in the mornings despite this being the East-facing side.

The bathroom was small but not tiny. The shower—I mean, this is what’s important, right?—had excellent temperature and pressure. This included and overhead waterfall fixture and a detachable spray head, and these had separate controls.

Our room was nicely cleaned each day with towels and soaps replenished. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. There was a Metro stop (Clot) around the corner and from the moment we exited the hotel we could be at Sagrada Familia or the Gothic quarter in 12-15 minutes. But the lovely surprise was that our neighborhood had many bakeries, cafes, and bar/restaurants of good to excellent quality.

Was that enough? We would gladly stay here again.

Hotel is clean and close to metro station/supermarkets. Better hotels that include spa for the same price, no kettle in the room, daily cleaner doesn’t sweep or hoover floors (however service was efficient and conducted daily). Construction workers/work - they didn’t fix a single lift within 7 days of our stay - so only one operating lift which wasn’t so pleasant.

Nice bar/reception area, overall clean hotel which is useful.

I would say you’d find Breakfast included and swimming pool included for the same price - this wasn’t a special hotel.

Arriving 2 days ago with spouse and 1 small child and an infant, we were looking forward to the indover pool, which turned out in reality to be a jacuzzi that you pay 10 euros for a person, even the kids. Robotic check in procedure, it could have been done much more friendly. Just basic info, pay and here is your key. Way y9 be welcomed in a 4 star place! Upstairs we settled in, but floor was dirty and bathroom was not cleaned properly - used shower cap still hanging. An hour later, whole room stank of pot smell coming from the window. Reception was informed on both issues. Guy came and said the room beneath us had been smoking the weed and were now done with it so problem fixed. How that doesn’t make a smoke alarm go off I don’t understand. And this is a nonsmoking hotel! Very weary when you have kids around.
Called reception ab too much heat in the room, she was so rude and was talking condescending to me instead of attention to the issue in hand. Basic coffee and tea making facility: You get it if you ask for it the first day, and after that you take yourself down to the bar every time you need it, and they will give you 2 bags.
Had a talk with the receptionist yesterday ab something and while talking to me and waving his arms around, he abruptly stopped the conversation with me as some lightly dressed and made up French girls turned by to yell ‘oh mon Dieu oh mon Dieuuuu!’ tothem and that also meant he brushed me off and never finished the conversation properly. So out of order!
We still have 3 days and I have stayed in 2 star hotels that had more pleasant staff and accommodation than this so called 4 star. Over expensive, not worth the money, Avoid!

Dear guest, I would like to thank you for your comments as they help us to be aware of our areas of improvement and to give better quality service to our future guests. We deeply regret the mishaps you might have during your stay. Our main objective is the comfort and rest of our guests. I totally agree with you about the tobacco smell, but I can't control of the guest when they are inside the rooms, please accept our apologies for the incident. If you have standar room the kettle is not included but we lend you one and also the spa is not included in this type of rooms. I think that during your stay you received a letter of apology and the breakfast free. Is it correct?. If you give us a second chance we could show you that the satisfaction of our guests is our highest priority. Best regards, Dolores Hurtado Manager

The hotel staff are friendly and accommodating as well as the location of the hotel- being central to the main metro line and train service. The walls are very thin though and it was noisy at times especially at night time. If you stay here I would recommend buying some ear plugs. We thought that the indoor pool would have been free to use however, there is a charge and it was too cold to swim in the outdoor pool as it was not heated.

This hotel is not suitable for families.
It’s not anywhere near a 4 star hotel.
It’s scruffy, it is like a huge hostel.
When we were driving from the airport our taxi driver didn’t look too enthusiastic when we told him where we were going. That should have prepared us for what we would arrive to.
The sides of our kids bunk beds had white covers which looked unwashed.
The smell of old cigarette smoke and weed was really bad topped with the smell of a Lynx like spray smell.
There was actually a cigarette filter on the side of my daughter’s bed ( on the sheets) and she was crying her eyes out with disgust when she saw it.
We thought that was bad but things got even worse . The next morning she looked at the shelf by her bed and there was an old wrapper, (let’s remember she is only 12 ), and she recoiled in disgust screaming
“oh my God! I think it’s a condom wrapper!”It wasn’t , it was an used sachet of lubricant! Yes, there we had a family an educational conversation that we hadn’t planned on having that morning.
There were also old pieces of either tobacco or hashish beside the lubricant wrapper.
Reception staff were nice when we were checking out . We told them what had happened and they simply said they would leave a note for the cleaning staff! Not good enough.
There were plenty of happy lads and young couples here but it’s definitely a hostel vibe / atmosphere .
It’s not cheap and cheerful , it’s scruffy and dirty.
It’s the type of place to fall into after a night out on the beer or weed.
We were so lucky to have an alternative hotel to move to.It was another 4 star but was worlds apart in every way.
I seriously question the authenticity of the great reviews for this hotel.
I have stayed in 1 and 2 star budget hotels that are cleaner and more inviting than this place. There is no way this hotel is worthy of a 4 star rating.
Avoid!

We arrived at the Catalonia having originally booked through Booking.com. The hotel was very nice, clean, modern and spacious. On checking in we were advised by the receptionist that Booking.com had cancelled our reservation (which came as a surprise to us) but had unfortunately failed to tell us! Reception were very accommodating and were able to provide a room for our entire stay and at around 60 Euros less than Booking.com were charging which is always nice. We had a triple room accomodating 3 adults quite adequately and a large bathroom with bath and shower. Again everything was nice and clean and in fact house keeping came in daily to make the beds and change towels as required. I would give the overall stay a 9/10. Had a kettle been provided in the room it would have been a 10/10. We didn;t ask for a kettle, one may have been provided had we asked. Location was very good, easy walking distance to metro, pharmacy, supermarket, shopping centre. Recommended and we would certainly stay here again.

the hotel location was ok, reasonable price, pool too too small not luxurious, top roof wasn't open, bus stop outside the hotel and metro train not very far walking distance. Check in was good, Albert was very good answered all the questions. there was one check in lady who sounded arrogant. the bed wasn't comfortable at all it was two single beds put together with no head board so the bed kept on moving. the mattress wasn't comfortable neither.
the bar guy was very attentive, the chef who made us the steak nailed it was yummy. the room brought in so much light that we couldn't enjoy our sleep, too noisy we could hear the conversations from the next rooms, the echoes was too much, everytime the other people went to the toilet we could hear them flush, there was a smell that came from the bathroom and toilet which we figured out its because the bathroom was in an awkward place so everytime you have a shower there would be alot of water splashing out on the floor. because of the awkwardness of the bathroom shape you have to be in the bath tub to turn the shower or bath tap. spa not worth it. The two massage ladies don't know their job. they cant do massage. we paid for a couple massage that costed £113 but it felt like it was a 10 year old applying oil on our bodies. the ladies don't have any energy and got no idea what a massage is. shops and restaurants near by. the housekeeping are lazy instead of making our bed they just covered the dirty linen and straightened the duvet.

This hotel has exceeded all my expectations, from the moment I reached the doorstep, a lovely smell could be felt which covered the whole of the reception area.

The check-in was quick and informative, the room was spotless, staff was very friendly with good sense of humour, especially Gerard. The reception team was very informed of the surrounding and they’ve given us some great recommendations such as El Clot restaurant which is about 2 minutes away from the hotel. The housekeepers, Fiorela and Rocia (I hope I didn’t butcher their names) did a fantastic job at taking care of our rooms, and the security on the night shift was always present to open the doors for me.

On the night before checking out, I took my family out for a nice dinner to celebrate my birthday but we did not have any dessert at that restaurant, but when we got to our room, there was a lovely cake as well as 3 glasses for champagne waiting for us. This was a lovely gesture which made my birthday even more memorable.

The only issue we’ve had was the Wi-Fi, which was very slow most of the time but luckily we did have mobile data.

As someone who has many years of experience working as a concierge in different hotels as well as being a frequent traveller, I can wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone.

I will be staying here again when I will be coming back to the beautiful city of Barcelona.

Best Regards,
Virgil
