Assembly Covent Garden enjoys a central location celebrated by many guests for its convenience to attractions and public transit, although the area might feel less safe at night. While service is generally regarded as friendly, there are instances of disorganization. The eclectic atmosphere of the hotel receives mixed reviews, with a range of descriptions from hostel-like to modern. Rooms, often considered small and lacking amenities, contribute to varying opinions on value for money. Noise levels fluctuate, with some experiencing disruptions and others finding peace and quiet. Cleanliness is typically well-regarded, despite occasional complaints.

Good:
Let me first begin with the location, because that is absolutely amazing. Leicester square is a great area with nice restaurants, lots of musical location near by and a lot of things (like Piccadilly Circus) all in walking distance. Metro was literally a minute walk from the hotel.

The staff from the hotel is very nice and helpful. We where there at 11AM for checking (early flight) and since our room wasn't ready we got a free upgrade to a double room with window instead of without so we could checkin immediately. Very nice! Also we only stayed for 2 nights but our rooms was nicely cleaned with new towels.

The room is simple and small, but nice and big enough for 2. More than enough for short visits. Take into account that if you have large suitcases it might be an issue. Wasn't the case for us, but good to know. Probably the best part of the room is the bathroom. Great shower! Don't expect much hotel goodies because a soap attached to the wall and at the sink is all you get. Again for us not a problem, but good to know if you are reading this.

What I didn't like:
The bed in the room was only 1.40 or something. Small for 2 people. Which might be nice if you are very cuddly lovers, but not really what I was expecting. It was a good bed, but if I book for 2 people I assume to get at least a 1.60/1.80 bed, but maybe that is a wrong assumption but it was something that I didn't like. Bigger bed would not even fit in this room since you can only get into the bed on 1 side of the back of at the end of the bed. Also not very convenient if you have to get in or out of the bed when somebody is lying on the other side.

Also take into account that there is a light switch that turn off the lights in the room, but then none of the other light switches are working. So if I wanted to get some light into the bathroom at night, I needed to turn all the lights on in the room as well. Maybe there was a solution for this but we couldn't find one.

ou cannot turn the aicondition off. Which I do not might, but the light on the control board was so bright it was very annoying when trying to sleep.

Conclusion:
It is small, minimalistic and includes only the bare minimum, but it has what you need and it is overal a nice hotel. Would not recommend for couples/friends/family that need more space when sleeping. But would recommend if you don't mind it. Just the
location itself would make me return to this hotel.

Dear anoniemopreisgaan, Thank you for your in-depth review of Assembly London. We're so pleased you enjoyed our central location and this meant that you could get around easily during your stay. We're glad our staff was accommodating and you were happy with your room upgrade. We do have different room categories where the room size does vary in size, so I would be happy to show you one of our higher categories next time that you may enjoy more. Thank you for providing feedback on the light switches in the room, this is something we're in the process of amending and getting stickers printed for our lights to make it easier for our guests to use. We do hope we get to see you again soon, All the best, Paul Hunter Area General Manager

Booked a “Hide” room. Room was VERY small, I was prepared for it to be small but this was like Yotel style small (which I know is trendy right now). Fine for a solo traveller whose out busy in London and not spending much time in the room (which was me) but this room isn’t suitable for more than 1 person as there is literally just the bed, no where to sit, the bathroom is directly opposite the bed with a sliding frosted glass door. The room didn’t look like the pictures online when booking the “Hide” room either. I also didn’t have “clever hanging and storage spaces” or a “small single bedside unit” that it was described to have. See photo

“Hide” rooms are windowless, which I knew when booking, I thought it would be fine but I never realised that actually I need a window. The room was narrow and tiny so it made it feel a bit like a coffin without a window. My room was also not in the main corridor and was off the stairwell, sort of between floors, so I didn’t feel as safe and the WiFi signal to the room wasn’t as good as it would have been in the main corridor.

There are positives to the hotel – it is in a really good location right opposite Leicester Square tube station, in Theatreland, in Leicester Square, in Trafalgar Square, close enough to walk to Regent Street and Oxford Street shopping, bed was incredibly comfy, staff were so friendly and helpful and the hotel is really funky.

Overall I would recommend this hotel if you are a solo traveller whose going to be out most the day and if it is a good price. If travelling with someone else maybe get a slightly bigger room at the hotel and actually check what sort of size it is. However it is quite expensive for what it is, if the Premier Inn Leicester Square is a similar price for your stay, I would recommend booking there instead (sorry)

Assembly is really well placed, within walking distance of both Charing Cross and Leicester Square stations. The area is lively with people around all the time, while the room itself is quiet. I had some issues with the temperature, but the staff were very responsive (no phones, so you contact them via whatsapp) and sorted it out quickly.

The room is cozy but has everything that you need.

The restaurant upstairs serves a great eggs benedict, with a stunning view over London.

My only suggestion would be to offer the option to be eco friendly and keep towels / linen for several days if the guest desires.

PS. no toiletries are offered except an all purpose shower gel / shampoo and hand soap, so bring your own!

Great location for tourists - Quick friendly check in - Room was great (No TV, Phone, Kettle, etc) Unusual decor but we loved it. We decided to have breakfast on the top floor where the views were amazing. Breakfast was a bit expensive at £15 for a very limited selection and no hot food - We were charged an extra 12.5% service charge for our self service breakfast so for this I have dropped a star. Other than this, I could not fault the hotel and would stay here again,

You can't beat the location, and the room was spotless. The room was very small, but that was expected as we had read reviews and descriptions. It was comfortable, stylish and functional, but the sink was incredibly difficult to wash your face in as it was so small and the faucet was central; and the lighting was terrible for applying make-up. There was a very small shelf to put toiletries on, and minimum hanging space (how much do you really need? You would probably not stay here for more than a few days). If you wanted to work on a laptop, it would be whilst sitting on the bed. We were not told on check-in that you need to insert the room card (and keep it inserted for the duration) to operate the lights, so that took a bit to figure out. I intensely dislike that there are no telephones, and you can only contact the staff via Whatsapp. Although some guests might like that, to me that is not ''convenience'' for a lot of guests; it's just cost-saving and cheap for the owners. I do not have a smartphone and, being from North America, I would be charged an expensive roaming fee to make a short local call to the reception desk, call a cab, make reservations etc, which would otherwise be unnecessary in ANY other hotel. Otherwise, I liked the hotel, but that alone would be enough to make me book elsewhere when next visiting London.

The room and stay was ok. The room, although small, was bigger than expected but that does make me think a kettle (and tele) wouldn’t have gone amiss. It’s nice to have a big window. The bathroom was functional and satisfactory.
We had an issue with our room (an alarm from the AC kept going off) which resulted in staff turning the AC to our room off, so we were very hot with no way to cool down. The manager gave us 50% back from what we’d paid (we emailed him following advice from staff) and we were happy with how this was dealt with and the promptness of it.
There were lots of scuffs on the walls - I don’t think it would take a lot to routinely go over them with a roller and it would make it look much more aesthetically pleasing.
The bar at the top of the hotel is a lovely gem, you must make a visit. A young girl tended our table and she was lovely. Very friendly and made the time there an even better experience.
The cleaner knocked on the door in the morning then walked in before we had chance to get to it, even though we were straight up and on our way.

We only stayed 1 night, but it was perfect.
Ok, the room had limited facilities but we knew that when we booked, but as it was just somewhere to lay our heads after a busy day it was perfect.
The rooms were spotlessly clean. Compact but lovely shower room.
We were facing the busy street but with the excellent double glazing, it was totally quiet in the room. Even the air conditioning was almost silent.
Black out curtains were well fitted and the room was completely dark when they were drawn.
We will defiantly use this hotel again.

The room was still dirty from the previous guests, toilet was full of dried piss, wall of the room behind the bed was with hand stamps, definitely needs a bit of more hygiene.

The only good thing is the location.

Done the check out online for 9am, 8h30 had housekeeping walking in the room without even knocking. She apologised about it.

As others have mentioned, this hotel is simply a place to sleep whilst enjoying everything that London has to offer. We were in London to see a show, so we only wanted the room for somewhere to sleep and put our bags.

Although my first impressions were not that great (the reception area looked a little dingy and the hallways were dark,) the hotel room itself was very nice. We had a “hide room,” which was impeccably clean and had a lovely rainforest shower. Despite the hotel being very busy, the room was nice and quiet with no noise from outside, other than the low rumble of an occasional train, which didn’t bother us at all.

The light switches in the room were a bit odd and you couldn’t turn the bathroom light on without turning all the room lights on, which isn’t great at night. Also of course, having no natural light in the room, it can be hard to figure out when it is morning! I hadn’t considered that!

Location was perfect, with the theatre and Covent Garden only a few minutes walk away and lots of great places to eat on the doorstep. Knowing that reception was staffed 24 hours a day and that they will also care for your bags while you explore the City were also useful features. Towels were super fluffy and the toiletries smelled lovely.

I’d happily use this hotel again.

Nikki W wrote a review Aug 2022
I'm just returning from a 2 night theatre break with my daughter. This was the cheapest hotel I could find and having had disastrous results when booking a cheaper hotel in the past I was a little worried.

On arrival we were greeted straight away and helped very quickly to check in. The staff were very friendly and reception area clean.

We were on the 9th floor in a windowless room. The room was spotless, plenty of towels and although the room was small was ideal for our stay. The shower was big there was a large illumated mirror over the sink and an under the sink compartment to store toiletries.

I was extremely glad of the air conditioning as I love a cool room.

My daughter loved the addition of the bunny stool in the corner of the room. There was also a full length mirror.

No wardrobes or drawers but for a short stay this isn't really necessary.

The location was fantastic within a short walking distance of Soho, China Town and the West End Theatre district.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and will look to stay here again when in London on a theatre break.

Thanks for sharing. I cancelled my reservation and booked a different hotel. If the hotel cant even answer its phone, I would be very concerned about staying there since they obviously are very weak in customer service. There are hundreds of exceptional hotels with great service in London. Don’t need to start my trip with a bad experience.
