It still retains the charm and leisurely living of another age. Antiques and period decor complement the mood. The rooms are sun-clean and inviting with private bath. Many of them overlook the harbour. We offer a licensed restaurant :Breakfast 7:30AM to 9:30AM year long. Dinning on summer season (reservation Req by 3pm). Free parking and WiFi. I definitely recommend this hotel to stay. It is a great addition to the Grand Manan island trip experience.
Although the building is old, it is very pretty and antique.
Rooms are clean and treated with care. Some furniture and items are very interesting and unique.
Breakfast was not included, but it was very tasty and served with love and attention to every guest for only 8,5 per person.
Hosts were super friendly and helpful, trying to accommodate us the best way.

Grand Manan, NB. is our favourite island. We picked the Marathon Hotel as we traveled with our 2 Wiener Dogs and it was hard to find a hotel that allows dogs in these days.Upon arrival we were greeted by the owners, which are the sweetest people. They guided us in person to our rooms. Everything was perfect. The TV channels were not what we expected but we were not here to watch TV. Free WiFi is also provided. You can feel the age (200 some years) of this beautiful hotel and if you are a fan of straight floors and staircases, this is not your place. The owners are more than willing to answer your questions about the history of their hotel and I'm pretty sure you will have more than one. The restaurant was closed for the season but the next morning they told us that they will open in the evening. We were very happy about that and the food was amazing. We all enjoyed every bite. The breakfast is wonderful. I enjoyed my stay very much and used the time to explore the building with the permission from the owners and of course I had more questions. When I talked to the owners about the Captains house, which is at the very end of the building, they asked me if we would like to have a tour. We saw old bathtubs and tiles I haven't seen in my entire life, old furniture and light fixtures from the past. I told them already that on our next visit, I want to have my room in that old part of the Hotel, The Marathon is known that it is haunted but we didn't to experience it.

Thank you very much for your candid review of your recent stay at our hotel. We try to do a little more than our best. Most of guest are here for nature, sea, hiking, birding, kayaking but TV is an important point. We don't have TV cable on the Island yet but our we are ordered an alternative solution (Jan 2020). According to the provider it will be ready from mid 2021 to end 2021. We hope we will see your dogs again.

I stayed at The Marathon Inn for 4 nights earlier this month while vacationing on Grand Manan Island. My room was cozy and spotless, the services excellent, the owner very friendly and a real joy to chat with, and the buildings (main and annex), dating back to the late 1800s, showing their age are filled with vintage furniture, books, paintings and such, which interested me to no end. This was my 4th visit to GMI, having camped there and/or stayed in its only motel before - but the Inn was truly exceptional and from now on that is where I plan to stay when visiting GMI.

We (four adults) got back to the hotel after a hot day of hiking to discover that there was no water in the shower. I encountered the hotel manager on my way to the reception and he stated that he was aware of hot water issues, but I stressed that we had no water at all. He stated that he’d already called the repairman who would intervene later that night or the next morning. I told him that if we ended up with no water during our stay, I would expect a rebate on the price of the pre-paid rooms. The most charming man we’d met when we checked-in suddenly got angry and pulled his mask down to tell me he’d already done what he could about the problem and that besides, he’d allowed us to stay for only one night when the hotel typically requires two nights, and now I was asking for a rebate... Having heard enough, I turned around to go back to our room at which point he called me an imbecile! Talk about adding insult to injury! The problem never got fixed and we had no water the next morning. I guess I was indeed an imbecile to book this hotel and I hope that my review will avoid you doing the same.

To write a decent review would need 5 fullscap pages at least ! My partner and I have both travelled extensively (abroad and locally) and The Marathon Hotel is among the TOP 10 World Wide in our experience. Ambience is cozy and very tastefully decorated with a seaside theme. Room was spotless and very comfortable, reception was personal and welcoming, management made us to feel like family and truly walked the extra mile to ensure our comfort. We cannot recommend The Marathon Hotel highly enough and will be sure to return as soon as possible.

The hotel, built in 1871, is simply charming. We had a spacious room (#8) that was spotless, with comfortable beds, views of the ocean, and very convenient to the ferry and island attractions. The staff is very attentive and friendly, helpful, and eager to share their insights about the island. I cannot imagine you could find a better value on Grand Manan. We really could not have asked for more. We'll be back!

We spent two nights in one of the larger family rooms on the second floor in the second building. We were impressed with the kind owners' gracious hospitality. They're the nicest people! Beds were clean and comfortable, room was clean, towels were nice! There was obvious upgrades like the bathroom and the floor. No ac but we had fans and kept screened windows open and were fine on a hot night. We stayed two nights so our hot, yummy breakfast was included. We had bacon, eggs, toast, coffee or juice. There wasn't a microwave or a fridge in the room but there was a common kitchen area we used to prepare food. It's a minute drive from the ferry which was important to us and the Inn was easy to find. I don't understand how anyone could write a bad review? We loved the charming character of the Inn and would definitely return. The owners treated us very well! Can't wait to come back again!

Dear Thanks so much for sharing your positive experience with us. We want our guest to feel comfortable sharing good or bad news with us. I also want to thank you for giving us a chance to make things right. We're using your feedback to make some changes: - I'm so sorry that your room didn't had AC and a Fridge, The AC will be installed this month and the fridge by next season. - Just a clarification about the breakfast: Time to time we offer Free breakfast as promotion to encourage long stays instead of one night stay. Unfortunately we can't offer it all the time. I'm pleased we were able to make things better with your comment and I hope we see you again soon. The Manager Napa & Al

I wanted to get off the well traveled tourist road. So going to an island via a 1.5 hour ferry was perfect. Even before booking Al told me that many come for birding but some like me for geology. There is a lot in a small place. Al had a booklet written by island geologistsfor mecto refer to and talk with me. He was always ready to help guests and wait on tables or just chat about interesting topics. I got very tired hiking and scrambling on beaches. So knowing I could come back to the hotel for a delicious home cooked meal was something to anticipate. Napa was very gracious, and the two children sometimes played quietly and responded politely to my greetings. I want to go back.

It was mid July and great time to visit Grand Manan. New owners now run the place and maintenance is poor. The deck boards are 25 % rotten so watch your step. The whole place has an odor (mill dew?). Breakfast was OK but the restaurant is closed for other meals - not mentioned on the website. We stayed in the annex which has very narrow and steep stairs. They have a bit of a kitchen with a small fridge so we bought pizza and ate there one night. The bathroom, although very large has a tiny shower. There is hot water. The room rate was good - for what we got I guess but one must stay 2 days, minimum.

We had a great time. Staying at the Marathon Hotel is an experience you won't find anywhere else. Grand Manan is beautiful. The hotel is spacious. It includes huge covered front deck where people can sit out and admire the view. As the oldest continuous inn in North America, staying is like stepping back in time, with electricity, cable tv and w-fi. The plumping was a bit slow. It took time for the shower water to warm, but we were on the third floor.
