Taboo Resort is one of the best kept secrets in Muskoka! We’ve been coming here for years and just love the place. The service is outstanding! The staff are all extremely friendly and accommodating. We stayed in their luxurious fourth floor premier rooms with lake view. The rooms are stunningly beautiful and impeccably clean and the view of Lake Muskoka is simply breathtaking! Dining right on the water at The Boathouse Restaurant is always a pleasure!

Stayed at this resort for three nights in August 2004.
Apart from the gorgeous decor in our suite, the toilet leaked non-stop, our view of the lake was heavily obstructed by the boat house restaurant, specifically, the back kitchen door of the restaurant which completely eliminated any desire to sit out on our balcony. The restaurants were attractive but we did not eat in any of them because the menu seemed to be for adults only. The resturant was also shockingly expensive: a grilled cheese sandwich was 10.00!! The staff were helpful and attentive and seemed to want to make guests happy. Overall, I feel that this resort is geared more toward those who wish to conduct business with pleasure rather than for families.

Me, my wife and two kids(1,4) spent 5 days at the begining of July at Taboo resort, the resort is very clean, staff are very nice and helpful. Great view of Lake muskoka, the beach was nice for the kids to play but the water was freezing. The weather was crappy(not their fault), they turned up the heat in the outside pools which was nice even with the cold weather. We stayed in a the main hotel in a lake-view room, the smell was aweful(damp and mustly), the furniture was old and dated. I hear they are going to renovate the main hotel, hopefully they can get rid of the smell, I would definitely go back!

I was quite disappointed with the grounds and the 'resort' It was truly run more like a camp than a resort. For the price point of 500 dollars a night, it was far from a wonderful experience. The pools were super busy and packed. The pool chairs needed major major updating. The reception desk was a motel desk at best and the lobby restroom was disastrously messy and unclean. I actually reported it and went back after a couple hours and it was in the same state. The rooms were nice although you could hear everything from upstairs FYI, not for light sleepers like me. There were no pool or beach towels on hand. the best they gave were some bathroom towel size ones out and maybe two if you gave them cut eye as to what you were supposed to do with a towel of that size. There weren't many places to sit on their private beach and no cabana or staff anywhere in site to help. If you found a seat it was after another patron left, so there was definitely no wipe down. Speaking of staff, they were mostly summer students so no real hospitality professional customer service for their price point. The best part was their sunset location. I do think they have the best sunset around in terms of resorts. The restaurant boasts a great location to watch it go down and the food was quite lovely. I do think the restaurant was a hit and miss in terms of the food as we stayed for several days, however the service was always great. There is no good coffee on the premises so be forewarned if you are a coffee drinker. I spoke to many patrons who had come for many years before, and they said the quality has definitely gone down. I checked into another resort afterwards and saw a major difference. I do hope they up their game. I only used to hear good things about this place

Just back from a stay at Taboo Resort. On the positive, stunning views over Lake Muskoka, which is really one of the key reasons for going there. Sybil at the front desk was an absolute charm, and extremely helpful in coordinating trips into town and reservations. The Boathouse Restaurant had a rather limited menu selection, but the options they did serve was extremely well done. Our server Ryan, as well as the other servers, were extremely friendly and made the whole experience quite enjoyable.
That being said, I’m not entirely sure if the tired state of the resort is as a result of the ongoing difficulties in running any hotel in the midst of a pandemic, or part of a longer term decline that has been exasperated by the pandemic. It definitely felt and looked as if the Resort had seen much better days. In addition, when you are paying between $400 and $500 a night for a stay, you expect to see and receive substantially more in terms of service, amenities and overall quality than was present. It was nice, but definitely not worth the money we spent. Highly unlikely we will ever go back.

The location and our room were great. We were shocked at the overall condition of this resort. We were paying almost $600.00 per night and expected better. The Boathouse restaurant has a very limited menu and is far to pricey for what we received. We ate out after the first night at other spots. No breakfast…poor coffee and nothing for kids to eat. The overall condition is poor. The pool is old and in need of repair. This isn’t what we imagined. We will not come back. Save the aggravation and book something that’s full of charm. Taboo isn’t it.

We came here for our honeymoon over a decade ago and loved it. We just came back and didn't recognize it. I remember luxury. Now there isn't any luxury to be found. Everything is rundown... There is no way this is a 4 star resort.

Balcony deck chairs are old, peeling, and splintery. Balcony railings are looking old and appear to be one harsh winter away from becoming a major liability. Window frames are water damaged. The walls are peeling. The luxury restaurant we remembered eating at doesn't exist. There's now a boathouse restaurant with a very limited menu - and even that seems beyond their abilities. It is overpriced and mediocre and the only option on site for food. The lobby is just a front desk, nothing else. No seating area, nowhere to grab a coffee like in most hotels. For the most part, the staff are well-meaning and trying their best but .... I don't know who owns Taboo but it looks like their plan is to cover every square inch with condos and let the resort fall into the lake.

We stayed at Taboo for the weekend and could not have been happier! Had a room with fantastic views over Lake Muskoka, enjoyed a delicious breakfast and dinner at the Boathouse restaurant. The staff were wonderful and very accommodating. We will definitely be back!

Just for the record, I am not paid to write this review, just want to express my honest opinion. We booked a room for our wedding anniversary, and upon arrival were upgraded to a gorgeous room!!! The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and special. The room was modern, specious and clean. The hotel provided cozy white robes and slippers for us, as well as a sweet greeting card. That night we went out for dinner at the Boathouse restaurant. We got a nice table overlooking the water. The food was simple but tasty, however the dessert was the best part of the meal (dark chocolate tart).

Thank you taboo for hosting us. We will definitely be back.

Came here with my wife and 2 young kids. Been before. Amazing place. Great room and views. So many fantastic indoor and outdoor activities for the kids. Kayla at the pro shop was so incredible with the kids. She taught them how to make a fire from scratch, made Smores, and made bracelets. Also had scavenger hunt, hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, tie dye shirt making, board games, slim making, and many other fun activities. Definitely recommend a winter stay!!

I went with a leg injury, we asked for something accessible and I don't know if we got lost in the (September) shuffle or what but it was not even kind of a little bit accessible, all stairs. There's also very little to do that's accessible, nothing free

I'm sorry i am unaware of the bus location as i always drive to these destinations. It is well worth renting a car as you can stop off at cafe's and cozy little diners and meet other travellers and enjoy conversation and get to know the lay of the land! Good Luck and thanks for the question.
