We stayed one night on a weekday. Hotel was quiet and the room clean, and because of this we were initially pleased with the price. But in the morning the cafe which served the breakfast was closed and when I went to the front desk to inquire about what was happening, there was no one there. Could only dial a number and talk to a person who offered next to no help. We ended up having to load two toddlers into the car and driving to a McDonalds instead, which was a huge inconvenience.
At checkout I wanted to use a different card than what was on file to pay for the rooms, but yet again there was no one at the desk. Had to drop the keys in a basket and leave.
Overall I would not stay here again. I enjoy a clean room, but I also enjoy good customer service.

I was a single female traveller ( 26)

I'll start with the good stuff!

Really clean and tidy. I didn't have the right extension plug to charge my phone so the owners lent me one, no hassle at all. It was quiet and I slept very well. TV, WIFI, fridge etc. Very impressed.

When checking out, the owners actually gave me a lift into town to catch my bus to Nanaimo. He waited to make sure that I was in the right place for it, before giving me a hug and wishing me well on my travels. Outstanding service if you ask me.

Yes, the location is not perfect, but I suppose it depends on what you are looking for. Depends how fussy you are.

The owners did have some initial reservations about letting me stay, as I seemed 'wet' ( having just came back from a kayaking tour) and they did charge me more than what I booked it for on booking.com, but after that, the service was outstanding.

Big thank you to them for my lift into town and for being very pleasant.

We stayed here for two nights having booked directly with the hotel, cheaper in fact than going through booking websites. First impressions on arriving were not good, there's a liquor store next door....well I'll just say that I wasn't sure if this was a good place to stay.

The owners of the hotel didn't seem overly friendly and the whole place seems rather dated and in need of TLC. The pictures on the web must have been taken some time ago as from what we could gather; the restaurant hasn't been open for a while. We had an upstairs room overlooking the river, the room was spotless, very impressed. Shower head very low but water was piping hot.

The owner met us in the carpark on our way back to our room on the second evening apologising in advance for the potential noise due to a crowd of people who had just booked in.

Some nice walks nearby along the river but the area itself is very industrial. Wal Mart only a five minute walk away if you need to stock up with supplies and plenty of restaurants and cafes in town.

Campbell River Lodge was our choice for our honeymoon in 1993 and again in 1994 for our 1st anniversary. While their for our honeymoon, we met almost everyone at the lodge and we had a wonderful time their. They were very friendly and helpful and most of all the meals there were delicious. The rooms were beautiful and close to every need of ours. The pub was a meeting place for all and we met a lot of friendly people. The fishing was thru their guides and very reputable and A1 guides. My wife and I caught a lot of fish and enjoyed the beautiful scenery there. We hope to return with our son soon and let him enjoy as we did the people and fishing that we enjoyed. This place needs more than an infusion of new blood it needs a transfusion. It's grubby, old and smells. The place is very chopped up with an addition here and there. Looks like the carpenter's apprentice put in the so-called hot tub. It might be okay for a bunch guys who just want to fish (like the drunken fisherman who hang out on the patio every night). The dining room serves up greasy burgers and fries and don't be fooled by the "free" breakfast...it's lukewarm, water-down coffee...but it did come in handy to wash down the dried up carrot muffin that was included. This place needs a time machine and a blow torch.

We booked a room from booking and when we arrived to the hotel they told us it was not registered on their computer but they had a room, more expensive of course. The can not do the same price than on internet so even you booked your room in advance they will try to charge you more... this is not professional. Shame on this hotel!
We choose another motel, Vista del Mar, much more professional.

The rooms are ok at best. Main issue was you hear everything in the room next door. Just regular talking is heard. Was woken up 3 morning by the people next door getting up with normal talking. Cups were not cleaned properly. Just wiped out and put back as if cleaned. Older decor and could use updating. Won’t be staying here again. Name of hotel is now Campbell river lodge by the riverside

We were in Campbell River on a road trip and after the hotel we wanted to stay at was booked we looked around and saw this hotel. It looks ok from the road so thought we would stop and have a look. That's where the good things end and I only give it a 1 because there isn't a way to give a 0. The owners seemed nice enough until we asked to have a look at a room. My daughter and I were travelling together so we needed a room with 2 beds so after the clerk finally agreed to let us see a room her husband grabbed his keys and walked off saying nothing but she said to go with him to see a room. He showed us a room with only 1 bed and grudgingly then took us to a room with 2 beds after I said again we needed 2 beds. So off we went to the second floor and saw another room. It looked reasonable for the price but I told him we wanted to have a look at another hotel and we would be back. He slammed the door and turned away, left us standing there and as he walked away he said "don't come back". As we started to leave I wasn't sure I had heard correctly so I asked him if he did not want us to come back and he said no do not return. So we left and found a much better hotel.
When we mentioned our experience to the second hotel clerk, she said had heard that this has happened quite a lot from the owners of Riverside. When in Campbell River, I suggest you avoid the Riverside Inn.

I had the best weekend ever when i stayed at the campbell river lodge.
What a great view of the river, with great staff and amazing customer service. I have seen some bad reviews but not sure why this is the best place i have ever stayed.
