Very nice rooms, very nice showers. Comfortable beds and free breakfast. Big tv and cold AC. Good parking and very close to down town. Just about 6 kms away. Restaurants and liquor stores, gas stations and just about anything you need. Walmart is just around the corner.

I spent the evenings of September 11 and 12, 2014 in Terrace, BC at the Northern Motor Inn, conveniently located on Highway 16 East, just a five minute drive from downtown Terrace with easy access to the airport, the golf course, the highway to Kitimat, and everything else the area has to offer. My cost for two night's accommodation was $105 per evening, plus applicable taxes, for a grand total of $237.30.

I found the entire hotel property to be clean and well-kept, even if it did remind me of the 1970s with its dated decor and small-town swag. Featuring 32 guest rooms, a full-service restaurant that is open from 6 AM to 10 PM daily, a pub, and a beer & wine store, the Northern Motor Inn has everything a short-term visitor to the Terrace area requires. There is no elevator to the second floor guestrooms, so handicapped people should make sure to request a room on the first floor.

I stayed in room 216, which was sold to me as a king bed guestroom. Again, the room was right out of the 1970s, nevertheless, it was clean and the maid service was excellent. Water pressure in the shower was good, and there were three bath towels provided. The guestroom also had a small flatscreen television set, small refrigerator, and in room coffee maker.

My only complaint was the alleged king bed: in fact, it was two single beds pushed together and then fitted with king-size sheets. I have not experienced the two single beds made up as a king bed hoax since a trip a couple years ago to Central America. I understand the rationale, they deal with a lot of truckers and pipeline employees who are coming through and often stay two people to a room, and they like the flexibility to break the king bed into two singles. Nevertheless, they should make the fact known on their website that when you book a king room, you're getting two single beds pushed together. I personally would've been just got a room with a single queen bed.

Conclusion:

On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is terrible and 10 is excellent, I give the Northern Motor Inn a 6. If my king-size guestroom actually had a king size mattress, I would've given the Northern Motor Inn a 7.5. I can and do recommend the Northern Motor Inn for people needing a short-term stay in the Terrace area. Just do not book a king size bed!

I spent Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the NMI, so pretty quiet. The reception staff were friendly. The hotel is a little worn, so maybe because of that I was impressed by how clean my room was. It's a little on the small side. It had a small fridge along with the other standards. The bathroom was also quite clean although the shower facet was in need of updating. The NMI has a friendly pub and a liquor store. Its located away from Terrace but nothing is too far if you have a vehicle -- 10 minute ride to the centre of town.

Never again.
I am a disabled combat veteran of 21 years in the Canadian Armed Forces.
I went in with my service dog.
I asked for a room for persons with disabilities.
"We don't have those"
Do you have military or a disability discount?""or AMA discount?"
Receptionist "we don't do discounts here." You can talk to management in the morning"

Ok, so I purchased a room as it was midnight.
I was asked to use a mask. In which I had told the receptionist that I have a service dog and an exception letter 2 times prior.
I said, "I have an exemption letter, would you like to see it?"
I was chuckled at.

In the morning I came for breakfast
I was not informed I had to be vaccinated to enter the restaurant.
I went without breakfast that morning because they gave me no options to eat.
I am disabled and did not want or think I should have to go to McDonald's.

I grew up in this town and I am shocked and appauled that the Northern has become what it is.

I will never ever ever go there again!

Thank you.

Third time eating there/ordering out and this experience was like the rest. I had hoped for better food because a few of my coworkers have said the food is good but me and my family have had no success. This time we ordered the super beef dip and skyscraper burger. We ordered out since the whole covid thing is still happening and when we checked the food we were just baffled. The beef dip was missing the au jus and I had asked for mushrooms on the burger, they had put canned mushrooms (5 to be exact) straight out of the can on it. I had to pull them because it was so gross. The reason why I’m writing this is not because this is a one time thing, this has happened 3/3 times we have gone. Either way do not recommend the restaurant at all.

This place has gone down hill in a hurry under new ownership. Unhappy staff. High prices. Poor quality. Poor internet. Poor TV package. Not happy with this place anymore! Now they are charging drivers $20 just to have a shower. They are bringing in all foreign workers and pushing long term employees out. Terrible atmosphere!

Burns Lake, Canada
We stayed a Friday night because of a ball joint failure on our car. We were going from Burns Lake to Prince Rupert and ended up being towed from the Kitwanga Junction into Terrace for repairs and we needed a place for 3 people (one being 6'3) and a dog.
The local 2014 guide quotes a price of $75 for this hotel and we called and checked in with a $120 quote.
We ended up being charged $133 no matter how much we complained.

We were up in the lobby complaining about the LOUD music at 1:30am (I mean loud. Like, someone playing rap obnoxiously from their car right outside your window all night and NOTHING YOU CAN DO about it.) and we were told this is "normal" and nothing else. Not a word. The staff just stared into the computer and did not even apologize.

We then decided to walk the dog around...only to be surrounded by falling over (and vomiting) drunk people all over. One even threw up into the cab on her way in. And then her friend yelled obscenities at the cab driver when he got upset about it!
No police anywhere.

The rooms was tiny, meant for ONE bed but had 2 double beds in. For 3 people and a dog, 2 double beds and one center aisle...no way around on the other sides!

The water temperature fluctuated wildly - normal-hot-cold-hot...

Our car was ready at 3pm and the staff WOULD NOT budge on allowing us to stay a little longer (we had no where to go, were not from there and were not planning on being there. We already had spent - $350 towing, $40 in cabs, $200 for hotel + food and $250 to come in car repairs!) They would not allow us to stay longer, no matter what. We ended up leaving our luggage at the car shop and just walking around that area for 3 hours.

We enjoy visits to Terrace and the other places and people we encountered were very pleasant as was the rest of our trip. The only problems we had during this trip was the ball joint, the weather (RAIN) and our stay at the Northern Motor Inn.

As we were flying into Terrace late and leaving early we chose a "value" hotel rather than a higher priced chain hotel. We were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is immaculate with a nice mix of cozy somewhat dated touches and some newer updates. The room was quiet and the restaurant was convenient, with delicious food at a good price. We were impressed enough to rebook a few nights later

The hotel staff were excellent on checkin. The hotel is clean and the room is fine. The only issue was that there was a Poltergeist in the bathroom shower and the second floor was rented to a herd of elephants, who never slept all night. Sound does transmit through the walls of wood buildings, so if you have a noise concern book a hotel in a concrete building. Alternatively, stay here. It's a decent hotel.

Based on reviews, I decided I would call the hotel directly. I called with the intention to reserve a room. Front desk customer service was not very easy to talk to. I was asking to get a room away from the "Pub" area. The response was vague..."I can't guarantee anything with noise". I just wanted to get a room away from the pub area! Other response was..."well all our rooms are grouped together". It's a hotel, of course their grouped together! As I was finishing up, he says "OK, will that be all?". It didn't seem like there was any intention to confirm reservation of a room. I decided not to reserve the room.
