Great place to awake with a view of icebergs in the distance and just down the road from the puffin viewing site. Be aware that there is very poor telephone coverage so you might not have connectivity with your phone and therefore with GPS at the location. The Bird Island Inn does however have good wifi when it works (it did however conk out when we were there). There are a number of fantastic hiking possibilities nearby and the locals are very friendly and the host is great. There is a tourist information office just up the road with a souvenir shop just a hundred meters up the road where we were provided with great information and suggestions. The puffin viewing site that is nearby was unforgettable as were the number of root cellars. Finding food was not the easiest on Monday night as most places were closed, we ended up going to Bonavista and even there Monday night meant almost all places were closed. Hopefully after in the true tourist season there will be better availability.

We stayed in a three bedroom unit. The two rooms upstairs had great views of the bay. The room downstairs had a very low ceiling which was awkward, but all the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped. The host was very helpful. It was great to be able to do laundry as well.
The B&B is located close to the puffins and close to a couple of snack bars and restaurants.

Very comfortable room. Even though they weren't officially open for the season, they rented us a room for a couple of nights when we contacted them. Very comfortable bed, nice bathroom, ocean view was stunning and we could see an iceberg in the distance.

My family decided to rent what they call "the king suite" the bird island b&b does not offer breakfast, there were no toiletries (ie) soap, shampoo. We had no paper towels, no necessities. The host did not greet us, when she called she was super unfriendly. There is absolutely no cell service in this town, and this is not mentioned. We killed over 40 flies in our rooms, and living quarters. Cupboards were falling off, and it was not clean. The only 2 good things about this b&b was the view, and comfortable beds.

Just returned from a whirlwind tour of Newfoundland and Charlotte and Rob's B&B was a complete highlight. My first breakfast I sat with my eyes glued to the binoculars watching the whales. It was truly incredible. Charlotte and Rob are great off-site hosts. The B & B is charming and has a real community feel as all who stay are welcome to use the common areas of the house for cooking or lounging. We had a blast and can't believe how delighted we were with our trip to Newfoundland. It should not be called "the rock" but rather "the place where you turn the corner and can't believe your eyes, yet again!" Puffins, whales, icebergs, rugged hikes, amazing people, Newfoundland has it all. Liz and Jeff from Ontario :)

Hello Liz and Jeff, Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a heart warming review. We are delighted that you enjoyed not only your stay with us but also your experience " around every corner" of the Rock! My wife and I traveled around eastern NL during the last two weeks of Sept 2016 staying in B & Bs. We would have no hesitation returning to any of them. Charlotte told me on the phone that we would love her place and she was right on the mark. We stayed in the efficiency unit for four nights. We couldn't get enough of the ocean view from our bed through the patio doors. We fell asleep and woke to the sound of the ocean. We walked to the Sealers Memorial monument multiple times to take in the salt spray, rugged shoreline and the solemnity of the monument. Elliston is a short drive from Bonavista making it very convenient for exploring the peninsula and finding great eating places. Charlotte cooked us huge blueberry pancakes and eggs, and shared stories with us while doing so. We had fun conversations and were sad that we had to leave. Puffin-viewing is nearby if you travel earlier in the year. Don't miss the Sealers Memorial Museum in Elliston,

We stayed at this B&B for two nights. Outside it was cold and foggy most of the time, but inside it was warm, dry and comfortable. Charlotte is a wonderful hostess. She prepared hearty and delicious breakfasts, brightened up the dinning room with cheerfulness, and provided useful info about the area. Our room, the Great Eastern, is not large itself, but its bathroom is larger than usual. The room has a window facing the ocean. We could see some scattered icebergs from the room but missed a beautiful sunrise because we slept too well. The parking lot in front of the building is not enough for all guests, but we soon learned that it's OK to park along the street. Overall we found this B&B and Elliston very "Newfoundland" to us, and enjoyed our stay very much.

This was everything I imagined a B&B to be! We were were spent the day driving to the B&B and had to check in late. Charlotte left detailed information for us, but we were lucky enough fortunate to run into Charlotte and she gave us some great tips on dinner and the puffin viewing site. We had the best pink and orange sunset that we enjoyed from the deck that evening. Breakfast was AMAZING and I'm dying for some of Charlotte's blueberry pancakes! We saw whales playing in the bay and love, love, loved the puffin colony! This was perfection! Thank you Charlotte and Robin!

We originally were going to book at a different, more expensive B&B near Bonavista but it was booked solid. We decided to try Bird Island B&B as it was close to the puffins. We are so happy we did!

The second we arrived in Elliston we fell in love with it. We had spoken to our host Charlotte by phone when booking and she said to come on in when we arrived as the door would be open and to give her a call as she doesn't live on site.

The B&B is very quaint and we had it to ourselves as no one else had booked the other rooms. Our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Our room had two windows and from our bed we could see the icebergs on the water. The B&B is right on the water with no obstructed views!

The Puffin viewing site is a short drive away, or you could even walk to it. Elliston is so calm and secluded and the old weather beaten houses are just stunning.

Charlotte our host recommended dinner at Nanny's Root Cellar Kitchen just up the street. Fabulous little spot that served a very delicious Pulled Moose Pizza. Charlotte also suggested Bonavista Social Club (see our review for BVSC) and while this was further away, it's a must!

Breakfast by Charlotte was fantastic and she is such a warm and friendly person. We loved sitting at breakfast chatting with her all about the area. We ended up talking for a couple of hours!

We loved it so much we extended our stay. We would have loved to stay here longer (thought about buying a place too!) as it is just a great little spot. We drove across NFLD from Port aux Basque to St. John's and stayed at many B&B's...this was our favorite of all. It is quiet and serene and a beautiful vacation spot.

You will love staying here!

I recently spent one night at the Bird Island B&B in Elliston, NL, and everything was wonderful. The B&B was spotlessly clean, the rooms were warm and comfortable, breakfast was delicious, and the owners (Charlotte & Robin) were friendly and hospitable. The primary purpose of my visit to Elliston was to observe and photograph Atlantic Puffins, and the B&B is located approximately 5 minutes (or less) from the Puffin observation site. I wish I could have stayed longer, and if/when I return to Elliston, I will make arrangements at the Bird Island B&B. Highly recommended.
