This hotel is a great little charm to the city of Hamilton. Located infront of the Dundurn Castle and minutes from downtown its makes it a great place to come to when having to go to Hamilton. Great comfy beds, large tv's(free movies), iron, hairdryer, fridge, and coffee machines in the room. Rooms are very clean and the price was great. The staff was expectional! The only problem was the dining room was closed when we got there at 1:30 am. But most are. We were hungry! but the staff was helpful in finding us something to eat.

WOULD STAY AGAIN! Hotels should use this hotel as an example!

Great location, great hotel, would recommend this to friends and family, friendly staff, easy access to downtown, close to sports, and Hamilton place, across from Dundern Castle, easy access to 403 and QEW.

Most people in the hotel service industry are polite and courteous because people are their bread and butter. My story is about a hotel owner/manager who is dishonourable, lied and bullied me.

I had reserved a block of rooms for my guests. He released these rooms early, lied about it, and then tried to blame me. The entire city of Hamilton was booked and there were no other rooms available. I was upset and told him I'd let others know what happened. He became mean and nasty and repeatedly threatened to cancel rooms that were already booked by my guests. He knew that all the hotels in town were already full for that date and his bullying behaviour was cheap and spiteful. The result of what happened is that my guests had to stay at 2 different hotels: one in Burlington and the Admiral Inn in Hamilton (not my choice). This caused no end of confusion and grief for my guests and myself. (By the way, a very understanding Sheraton employee went way beyond the call of duty and helped book the Burlington Travelodge hotel when she found out what happened). The reason I'm writing this letter is to let people know about the the very unprofessional way that the manager/owner handled the entire situation. I hope that this behaviour becomes known so that the owner is never again in a position to treat people like he has treated me.

My experience here echoes the one noted below in the June 22 review. I booked a room on the telephone and was given the rate of $89 plus tax. I asked for an email confirmation and was told they were not able to do that, but not to worry. When I called two days prior, to confirm late arrival, the man on the desk (who I later learned was the manager)told me the rate for my room was $119.00 - a $30 hike for one night! I was shocked and complained and asked to speak to the manager. He(the manager I learned later) told me the manager was not available and that I could just 'drop it'and when I argued he said that all the rooms in town were booked for the Around the Bay road race so the rates were higher and again, I could just drop the reservation. This left me stranded! This is outrageous behavior after having made the booking a month prior. In the end he gave me a rate of $109, but the experience was extremely stressful and unpleasant. The hotel itself is worn and there is a pervasive smell of room deodorizers trying to hide the other odours. There were teams of girls running and screaming through the hallways. The bathroom can only be kindly described as 'miniaturized'. I would not recommend that you stay here, or if you must, be sure to have your rate and dates confirmed in writing. Their 'word' is not to be trusted. I was told at the desk that they "jacked up" (their words) the rates for the Around the Bay Race weekend. Altogether dismal. Look elsewhere.

We appreciate any comments on this website but there is a big misunderstanding involving the comment made on April 6th. I am the front desk clerk which checked-out this guest. I tried to be very polite and hospitable in telling the that our Weekend Rates are $99.95 for a single (1 Person) occupancy room and $109.95 for a double (2 Persons) occupancy room. Our weekday rate is $79.95 for a single occupancy room and $89.95 for a double occupancy room. I mentioned this to the guest and I even offered to lower our rate to the regular weekend rate. I never mentioned "Jacking the Rates" it is not even a term use in my vocabulary. Please do not take this biased experience in hindering your choice to stay with the Admiral Inn. I went on this website to see what guests think of my workplace. My employers did not encourage me to do so either. I am sorry the guest was not happy with their stay and we do try to accommodate to our guests. (NOTE ALL ARE WINTER/SPRING RATES THROUGH CALLING THE HOTEL NOT ONLINE BOOKING)

I can't comment on the interior of the hotel or on the cleanliness of the rooms, but I do object to the management. I booked a room in July when there was only one complaint against the manager of this hotel, so I decided to take a chance with it. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my trip due to illness. When my credit card was charged for the room in spite of my cancellation I called the manager of the hotel to object. He was very hostile over the telephone, and demanded that I fax him a copy of my cancellation. I did so and did not receive a response from him. When I called over a week later to follow up he accused me of using a computer program to alter the cancellation. He said he would look into it himself and would get back to me, but has not contacted me. I am sure the hotel is decent enough to stay in, and judging by the other reviews, the rest of the staff is very friendly. However, I would not recommend a friend to stay there as there is a definite potential for uncomfortable confrontation in case of a problem with their reservation.

Stayed at the Admiral Inn on our way to Niagara Falls. Extremely pleased with the courteous, friendly greeting when we arrived. The young lady even printed out directions to a couple of sites we were interested in seeing. The on-site restaurant was not only very convenient for our schedule, but the food was excellent and very reasonably priced. I would definitely stay there again should future travels take me to Hamilton.

My fiance (now husband) and I were planning to go home after our wedding, but we decided instead to book a room at this hotel as it was very close to the place we were having the wedding. The woman who booked the room over the phone for us a couple days ago was friendly enough, as was the guy at the counter when we arrived late last night. We have traveled a lot and I always inspect the beds and furniture for bed bugs before taking my things into the sleeping area, and unfortunately when I did so, there were bed bugs and fecal traces on the box spring. We immediately took our things out of the room and went to the counter to tell the staff person. He asked me to show him the bed bugs, so I went back to the room and did so, and when he saw them he did not seem surprised. He told us that they "bomb" the rooms (which you are not supposed to do with bed bugs--that causes them to spread), so we declined when he offered us a different room instead. We called a cab and went home for the night. It was (so far, as long as we didn't bring home any unwanted guests) only a minor inconvenience but I think this hotel needs to get a PCO in to inspect and spray all the rooms ASAP.

As far as I know, they have not charged my credit card for the stay. I should hope that they won't.

Great visit! Wonderful staff. It is nice to have a quiet room away from traffic as they all seem to be in this hotel. We could not believe how comfortable the beds were. Lots of nice extras such as an alarm clock, ironing board and iron, hair dryer and coffee maker. Nice ambiance in all areas of hotel. Dining room serves exceptional food. All soups are home-made! Can't say enough great things about this hotel.

What a great hotel... I've never experienced such accomodating staff and cleanliness in a hotel! If you are headed to Hamilton, do not stay with the big name hotels, they are run down... this quaint little place is absolutely the best, they have clean, quality rooms and great staff.

Enjoy!
