This was our second time staying at Hotel Philco, and it was fantastic! The first time we stayed in the Crystal Beach room + this time we stayed in the Christmas room. Honestly, no detail went unnoticed; they went all out in terms of curating the rooms + creating unique, memorable experiences for their guests.

Our family of four, including a teen + pre-teen, all love it, and can't wait to stay again...perhaps in the Bills room! We definitely recommend it to others.

We stayed in the bicycle room and the decor is lovely. The attention to detail is exeptional. We will be back.
The room overlooks a quaint shopping area and is close to a variety of restaurants in easy walking distance.
Air conditioning is easily adjusted and very much appreciated.

We stayed in the Retro Room, and wow, what a great 70's vibe! We enjoyed the sleep on the memory foam mattress, and the shower had great pressure. The room was spotless. The shared patio area on the ground floor for Hotel Philco guests only, has an outdoor fireplace and Adirondack chairs, so you can enjoy the summer evenings. We hope to return again!

The Phil-co team knocked it out of the park!
We stayed in the Nautical room. The loft and kitchenette are fun and useful.
The decor is beyond!
They even provide 2 sailing hat, for photos.
A sliding door opens to provide a view over Hot Dog Alley. There were 3 venues that had live music, all a few steps away.
They do warn you about potential noise, yet we didn't experience any.

Best time ever! We stayed in the Beer Room this time. Everything was perfect! The bed is so comfortable. The attention to detail is amazing in this room. Our goal is to stay in every room there! So close to home, but yet you feel like you are away.

Stayed in the cabin room. Enjoyed every detail the room had to offer. Loved the area as went on a little pub crawl and finished at South Coast for a great dinner. Would recommend to anyone who’s looking for a great getaway.

Definitely pros and cons to Hotel Philco.

Pros - Rooms are so cute!!! Our family group had three rooms - the Glam room, the Garden room and the bicycle room. The glam room is absolutely our favourite, very cute and very cozy, absolutely adorable and very quiet. Garden room very tasteful and classy and the bicycle room very cute!!!

It is so close to fabulous restaurants and shops down below (Planks is amazing and Utopia is so great, all the shops on Hot Dog Alley are great!!!) Southcoast Cookhouse - we ate dinner there twice in four days and lunch twice and enjoyed the food and service every time, really a great restaurant!!! It is owned by the people who own Hotel Philco and I highly recommend the restaurant and shops in the area! Also Shaka downstairs is amazing for breakfast, their avocado toast and coffee (and wine in the afternoon) is so good!!! It closes at 3 so definitely go try it out, it's amazing and that is where we had coffee and breakfast every morning.

Cons - No front desk so you have to text or call to get assistance (huge pain). We all had some issues with our rooms (one kitchen faucet blew off) and door issues. It is difficult to get amenities replaced - towels, they only give you a tiny little thing of soap, shampoo etc, enough for one day but when you are there for three days, you need more towels and amenities and unless you hunt down the cleaning lady that is there during the day and can find her, you are out of luck.

The main door to get in to most of the rooms has a key pad and was a huge pain, it barely worked and was so frustrating trying to use it. All three of us families together had problems with this door and literally avoided it if we could.

They have a beautiful little outdoor patio with a fireplace BUT god forbit you stay until 11:20 pm hahaha. I didn't stay there long was in bed early but a couple of the fellows in our group stayed and had a few drinks until 11:20 pm and had huge problems with the door so they used the gravel parking lot which is quite dark and private and no homes really face it so you wouldn't think it was a big deal for guys to relieve themselves haha (no harm no foul and they thought with the major door key pad issues and the slamming in and out it was smart) and the next day during my granddaughters graduation I received a very nasty text message from Kendyl the manager that I found quite threatening to do with our use of the patio, bikes we were allowed to use and one of the families used them one evening but we weren't told there was a time limit of when they had to be back - so the text message was about the men, noise, bikes and threatened they had it in video of them relieving themselves in the gravel parking lot (dark) and no one really faces it. So it really upset me during my granddaughters graduation and upset the entire family. So much so, we will NEVER go back. I wasn't even there during the said event/time of the said complaints and yet they chose to text me, the grandma who was in bed sleeping as if I had control of all three families, which is laughable and was very very unprofessional. She texted me approximately 13/14 hours after.....and I wasn't even involved!!!

All in all, they have a lot of work to do to finesse how they deal with people who pay a lot of money to stay there, we spent a small fortune at their restaurant and neighbouring shops and were very respectful to their rooms. It isn't our fault they apparently have long term renters attached to the hotel - which is odd because Utopia downstairs has bands often - do they get snotty complaints too?

All in all, the rooms were beautiful but the service wasn't at the hotel but I do recommend the restaurant (Southcoast) and all of the shops in the area as they were all amazing and Crystal Beach is such a cute beautiful little town - my daughter lived there for the past two years while her daughter was going to school and playing hockey in the area.

Also, when you book - you pay up front and their cancellation policy is quite strict and their booking system needs some work as I was able to book easily but one of the three families had a huge issue booking and it took weeks to resolve.

Just a real experience here, some good, some bad and although I loved all the rooms our families had, I wouldn't stay there again, service was not great and I found the text message I received extremely unprofessional and ruined our day. I didn't respond due to it being so unprofessional and I was very upset. Kendyl the lady who sent it needs to brush up on her management skills and how to deal with guests and who she should have been contacting and who she should not have and maybe deal with issues at the time, not 13 hours later. Not impressed. I would stay at an AIRBNB in the area next time, there are many and some family did stay in one and it was much easier and zero problems.
