The hotel restaurant is closed, so you need to figure out where to go for breakfast. They allow you to use their dinning room for your take out orders. Due to COVID, they housekeeping staff will only clean your room after you leave or after 5 days.

Staff here are friendly, and while there are many restaurants near by, most restaurants are not opened on Mondays and Tuesday, and some are permanently closed due to COVID.

Do not pay extra for the harbour view, as it's very noisy with the ships arriving and leaving with shipment containers being unloaded.

My husband and I are experiencing history in the making here in St John’s, NL. We have been staying at the Marriott since Thursday Jan 16, following cancellation of our flight due to a record breaking blizzard that left 76 cms and hurricane force winds that prompted a state of emergency to be declared. The hotel’s management and staff have gone above and beyond to make us feel safe and secure even with no hydro for 14 hours. We learned that the staff stayed at the hotel overnight to ensure the guests staying here would be ok. They gave us flashlights and they ensured we were all updated on status of weather. They braved the elements to ensure the area in front of the hotel was always cleared. On Saturday morning, despite no hydro, we were served complimentary continental breakfast and also a light lunch of sandwiches, salads, muffins and water and juice. Once hydro was restored, the staff contacted each guest to offer us coffee and to see if we required any additional towels, blankets or toiletries. We will never forget this blizzard and we will be forever grateful to the staff of this hotel for making us feel not like guests but like family. If you have never visited Newfoundland, put it on your list, and you must absolutely stay at this hotel. It is right in the heart of downtown St John’s and the views are incredible. A great experience awaits you.

London
My family and I arrived in St. John's around 2-3 AM on July 16th. We traveled from London, Kentucky to get here so it had been a long, full day. Initially, we were greeted by a gentleman by the name of Dave. He was knowledgeable and very helpful to us. He recommended an app we could use on our phone to get some food delivered to the hotel even though it was super late. The entire staff at this hotel is excellent from the front desk to maintenance to the housekeepers. Everyone we talked to at the hotel were happy to answer any questions we had about the town and were full of wonderful recommendations. This place is incredibly clean. Our room had beautiful, breathtaking views. The beds were comfortable beyond belief, and we were able to walk anywhere we wanted to. We rented a car for a couple days to see some other sites out of town, but it definitely wasn't necessary because the city of St. John's has so much to offer. Across the hotel is a cat cafe for any cat lovers out there! The cafe also serves toutons (pancake sandwiches) which are delicious as well. Also, across the street is a little grocery store with all the essentials you may need, especially if you've just flown in for a week with only carry on bags. Since we only brought carry on bags, we needed to do laundry about the middle of the week. The hotel has laundry services on site and the desk clerk provided me with complimentary detergent and dryer sheets. They also supplied us will all the complimentary shampoo and conditioner we needed. We had to be at the airport at 5 AM for our return flight home. Dave once again came through for us and had a taxi waiting outside to take us to the airport when we came down to check out. It absolutely broke my heart to have to leave not only this town, but this hotel. When you spend that much time at a hotel, you start to get attached to people. I cannot stand the wait until I can return to this place. My body may be back home in London, but I left my heart here in St. John's. I hope the staff gets to see this review and understands the positive, uplifting impact they had on me and my family.

Great location as a base to go around but half of the rooms don’t really have good views if you’re looking for a view outside your windows. If you want good views, ask for a harbor view room.

Staff were quite pleasant, friendly and helpful.

Free parking in front of the hotel but when we were there, you really need to park before 7. Otherwise, you don’t have a place to park. But that shouldn’t be a problem cuz you can really just walk to restaurants and pubs around.

We had a 4night stay at this hotel with a junior suite with the harbour view. It was a wonderful stay, we had a little “living room” with fridge, microwave, coffee maker and coffee supply. The view was very nice with the tugboats coming in and out of the harbour as well as a view on Signal Hill and The Battery. The front desk staff was very kind, always eager to help. The location is great as well as we were able to walk to restaurants.
The only suggestion I could make to make it a tiniest better would be to include a dishcloth/paper towels. I could probably have asked but thought of it on the last day!
If/when we come back to St. John’s, this will be our hotel of choice.

We had a great view of the harbour and the rooms were clean and quiet. The hotel is a great walking distance to most places downtown where we often picked up breakfast and checked out a lot of the local restaurants. We also ate breakfast in the restaurant one morning, it was very good and again has great views of the harbour. Having visited St John's many times over the last 15 years I would highly recommend this hotel!

Enjoyed our 5 day stay. The hotel is a bit dated, but our room was clean and comfortable. The front desk staff were warm and friendly and made an effort to upgrade us to a suite with harbour view from the bedroom, a sitting room, and a microwave and larger mini-frig. Very good blackout curtains, so we ended up sleeping in! The only timexwe noticed harbour noise was a foggy night, when the foghorn blew every few minutes. We had breakfast in the hotel once, but it was nothing special. Easy walk to lots of restaurants and shops (I highly recommend Portage for dinner and we enjoyed Bagel Cafe for breakfast). Parking was ample acrosd the street, probably because summer season was over. All in all, a good stay.

The big pro of this hotel is the staff. They are kind and helpful and available. Jerry from the kitchen is wonderful. The rooms are clean. After harbour hours, they are quiet. The building is a bit older but well maintained. Wifi worked well. Parking is free and directly across the street - easily available. We got food deliveries (during covid times) and those happened without a hitch. When we needed utensils, the front desk lady was super helpful and brought them to us in plastic baggies. The negative and the reason I dropped a star is the harbour noise. It doesn't affect your overnight sleep. But the daytime 8am to 4pm type noise is UNREAL. For some reason the trucks do everything in reverse with beep beep beep sounds from backing trucks blending not nicely with the crane's boooop boooop noise, paired with the obvious boat noises. The view of the harbour is lovely, with a nice look at signal hill as well. If you want an "authentic" experience, complete with harbour noises, VOILA. this is THE place. If you need to think during the day and hope to do it without earplugs, well, maybe think again. The hotel was very good with all of the covid policies and procedures. I felt very safe from that perspective. Also, its super close to everything
"downtown" since it is...directly downtown. So if you want the downtown lifestyle and easy walk to most things, this is your spot.

This hotel sits just above the Harbour in easy walking distance to downtown sites and restaurants. Rooms are a good size, clean and well maintained and a good value in this price range. Restaurant has a bar/restaurant. Parking is right across the street. Staff that we met were very friendly and helpful.

Is the parking on site always full, and how far is the complimentary free valet parking?
Answer from Colin W
St. John's, Canada5 contributions
Hello, Thank you for reaching out to us! While we do offer complimentary self-parking in our lot directly across the street from the hotel, during busy times it can fill up, particularly later in the evenings. It is for that reason that we offer complimentary valet parking. The cars are parked in our overflow lot, which is just down the road from the hotel, located on Hill O'Chips. I hope this answers your question!
