Hotel is lovely. We are staying in La Grande Residence with two bedrooms and a sofa bed (extra points for the sofa bed actually being made up with bedding rather than us having to do that, at a lot of the hotels we’ve stayed at this hasn’t been the case - thanks!).
Apartment is very spacious, heaps of cupboards, excellent aircon, looks like a recently renovated bathroom and everything you could want in the kitchen (Nespresso machine plus 4 Nespresso capsules). There is a laundry on the M level which is $2 wash and $2 dry and a little shop that will give you change for the laundry, all open till 10pm. Havent tried the pool yet. Location has been great. 10 min max walk to everything we’ve gone to so far and the main shopping street right next to us.
Only complaint is sometimes you wait for a lift but that hasn’t been much of an issue and even then it is a short wait. Staff have all been very friendly. We are at the end of our 3 week holiday and enjoying having the extra space to spread out. The beds are so comfy and after experiencing many different hotels we are loving this one.
Other reviews mentioned the fire station and AC unit being loud. You do hear the fire trucks, but it's not for long at all and didn't disturb us in the least.
The AC is loud. Not inside the suite, but on the balcony. We didnt spend much time out there because it was hot and the AC was going, which made the balcony a bit too loud to be out there. But it really wasnt a big deal, and had it not been a heat wave would have been less of a factor.
Wish parking wasn't so expensive, but it's downtown Vancouver so what can you do.
Love this hotel, 100% recommend. We will be back!

I booked my room through Hotwire, which represented this property as a five star hotel. I fervently disagree. In fact, I couldn't find any site that agreed with their rating. Moreover, The Sutton Place proudly displays a plaque with four stars in its reception area. I'll agree with that, but allow me to share my story.
I entered the lobby, admittedly it was impressive -- decorated in a traditional manner with marble, crown molding and polished brass hardware. However, the air freshener they use in that area, in my opinion, has the scent of an over powering men's cologne. It reminded me of my eighth grade history teacher, that's not an aroma that I relish.
Making my way to the reception desk, I was greeted, promptly checked in and presented with a key card for my room. Assistance with my luggage wasn't necessary, which was a good thing because it wasn't offered. However, I was directed to an elevator that whisked me up to the ninth floor where I nervously entered the next chapter of my alleged five star hotel experience. A swift insert of the key card activated the flashing green light that, according to Hotwire, should lead me to a room that was "sure to please even the most discriminating tastes." Ahem. Within a few minutes I was back at the reception desk requesting a cleaner room. To the hotel's credit, they quickly apologized and gave me another room. Yes, it was cleaner and had a superior view, but not a room worthy of five stars.
The king sized bed was comfortable, but the headboard had stains on it and some of the other furniture could benefit from cosmetic repair work. The television was a flat screen, but the picture didn't appear to be HD. The bathroom decor is dated, but acceptable. The issues I encountered with the bathroom include poor ventilation (I know what you're thinking, but the problem was with the mirror fogging up when I used the shower) and the toilet water kept running after each flush until I jiggled the handle.
The room was comfortable, but the walls are thin. I could hear my neighbors close the drapes and their bed knocking against the wall during their amorous encounter. Fortunately that didn't take long.
I will say this, I was impressed with the staff's attentiveness. When I contacted reception with a problem, it was handled swiftly. In addition, a manager followed up after I voiced a concern about the first room's cleanliness. I only wish that I didn't have to deal with any problems whatsoever -- it got tiring, especially when I was anticipating a five star experience.
A few additional things the hotel could do to improve its appearance: re-caulk the joints between the bath vanity top and back/side splashes, repair peeling wall paper and vacuum the corridors on a daily basis; I saw the same towel lint sit on the corridor carpet for three days.
I think this property has potential and I wish them well. Whether you're in town for business or pleasure, if you like being close to everything, the hotel's location is great. My final comment is that I'd encourage management to rethink the Internet charge in the business center, and possibly throughout the entire hotel, as its competition tends to include Internet as part of the room charge.
The suite was clean and spacious and was as comfortable as one could expect, given we were unable to leave the room for 2 weeks.
The bed was very comfortable but the suite was in need of refurbishment and some "TLC". The staff were responsive to our needs when we called, with one exception (more below). The concierge staff were helpful and courteous when delivering food and other essentials. When we were finally able to have our suite serviced the cleaning attendants did a good job.The heating did not work properly at the start but was fixed after a couple of days.
Being located very close to the 'fire station' wasn't ideal and frequently we were awoken in the night by sirens.
As we were told the restaurant was fully booked for dinner on NYE we decided to make our own in suite dinner. Trying to get glasses, a tablecloth and steak knives was almost impossible. After numerous calls and promises to call back, I had to resort to going down to the restaurant to ask the receptionist, this was at 6pm. She was offhand and said that tablecloths weren't available. I insisted and eventually nearly 45 minutes later the items were delivered to the room, with the exception of the champagne flutes. The young lady in question would benefit from some proper guest relations training.
We were also unhappy that there was no facility for breakfast apart from room service, which was very over priced. It should be very simple to serve a limited breakfast menu in the restaurant, given the restaurant was open in the evenings.
As we were staying for a month, half of which was under a quarantine situation, we were disappointed that we didn't receive at least one courtesy call to see how were were doing by the hotel management, who were not in evidence during our lengthy stay.
This is a nice hotel, and I was surprised at his behavior. The only reason I gave it a 3 star for of that employee. This was my only bad experience in Vancouver and it was a bad one.
Aside from this, the rest of the staff were friendly and professional, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Despite this minor issue, I would still recommend La Grande Hotel for its overall quality and service.

Our suite was booked through American Airlines AAvantage. The site indicated a two bedroom suite with no other details. The hotel was listed as a 5* property.
Upon check in, all our traveling companions were assigned rooms in the Hotel as booked and ours was assigned in the Residences as booked. We were assigned room 251. Upon opening the door to our "Suite" it was clear this room had not been updated in many years and was in very poor repair. The pictures say it all. I went back to the front desk and indicated the room was unacceptable. The representative indicated I had booked a non-renovated room. I told her the site I booked on made no representation as to the renovated or not but the room I had been assigned to should not be rented in its current condition. She offered to show me another room on the 14th floor. A bellman took me to the 14th floor and the room displayed was no different that what we had been assigned. I declined moving rooms. Our 18 travel companions were meeting for a birthday dinner and I had no more time to deal with the issue. We were only staying one night thank goodness. After returning from dinner I did take photos of our room and went back to the front desk, with my IPad, to show them the photos I would be posting on trip advisor. The representative at the front desk was very professional and seemed concerned but indicated that since my reservation was prepaid there was nothing they could do. They did offer to provide free internet, normally $20. They did take my email address but I never received an email.
I did also communicate with American Airlines and indicated they should not be selling the Sutton product through their website without assurance their customers would not be assigned the non renovated units. I did not receive a positive response from American Airline either. We stayed at a Pinnacle hotel in North Vancouver and a Pan Pacific hotel in Whistler the two nights before this, both were 4* hotels and the quality of both FAR exceeded what we experienced at the Sutton.
Another issue with the 2 bedroom suite is that there are only AC vents in the living room and one bedroom. The other bedroom is far from any AC vent and required opening the window if you require cool to sleep as well as leaving the bedroom door open eliminating any privacy when with another couple. With the hotel being downtown to leave the window open means you will be disturbed by noise and sirens all night long. 5*?
I did ask our traveling companions how their rooms were. All indicated the rooms were warn and not nearly as nice as the two nights before.
I do want to be clear that the front desk staff was very professional and utilized all the tools they had been given, which were few, to deal with the situation. This is an issue of management selling rooms that should be not be sold. I would be disappointed to get the room we received at a 2* hotel.
One other issue. The website we booked on did not indicate that the 2 bedroom suite only had one tub shower. There were two separate bathrooms but one with only a sink and toilet. This was also a bad surprise when sharing accommodations with another couple. Again something American Airlines site did not disclose and for which they did not take responsibility.
All this to say we will not be booking the Sutton again and we will be careful when booking with American Airlines to be sure what kind of room we will be getting.
Soft linens and thick towels. Water saving rain head. Lots of closet space and cabinet shelves.
Minor cons is the frosted doors would emit light from hallway and bathrooms when lit. There is a fire station located behind hotel, and a hospital a few blocks so you will hear sirens sporadically but noticeably quieter than other big cities like NY, SF, and Seattle.
I liked this property and would stay again.
The city is beautiful and recommend taking water ferries to areas of interest such as Granville and Maritime Museum/Kitslano Beach. Stanley Park is beautiful to walk, bike and trolley by horse. There are parking lots circumventing the park.
