We stayed here for a week in February. What a brilliant location, literally a 2 minute walk from Reduit Beach & Spinnakers bar & restaurant. Also it is about 10 mins stroll from bars, restaurants & 2 shopping malls. The hotel is very clean & the ladies that work there do a great job. They are very pleasant & cheerful.

The room we had on the 2nd floor (Hibiscus), was very spacious with a huge bathroom & shower. The bed was very comfortable. There is a safety deposit box for which you have to pay a refundable deposit & beach towels can be collected from reception each day.

The only reason that I would not award 5 stars, is because the breakfast is not the best. If you are OK with the same every day then it is not a concern but with the variety of fresh fruit that is available in St Lucia, I found it disappointing to have the same every day.Even the toast is thin sliced white bread, not the best. I should add that you can pay extra for eggs, bacon & sausage if you wish.

However, for cleanliness & the excellent location, I would definitely return to Ginger Lily.

We just returned from an 8 night stay in St. Lucia and we must highly recommend this hotel! The Ginger Lily is a wonderful, small, boutique hotel just across the road from Reduit beach. It is well within walking distance of several good restaurants (though they do have their own which we did not try). The beach is only a minute or two away.

The rooms are large, airy, tastefully (if simply) furnished, immaculately kept, and the A/C worked very well. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Each day, the housekeeping staff created lovely designs from fresh flowers and towels on our bed, different for each of 8 days!

Beds are comfortable, bathroom is large, and showers work great with plenty of pressure and hot water.

The grounds are lush with many flowering plants and are excellently maintained. The pool, while somewhat small, is just the right temperature, clean, and not overly chlorinated.

The location is secluded and it is pretty quiet. There was the occasional barking dog at night, and a few nights the frogs were quite vocal after it rained. Neither is the hotel's fault, but if that kind of thing bothers you, book a hotel with "real" windows you can close. But with the shutters closed and the A/C on, the disturbances (if you can call them that) are minimal at worst.

While we were a bit disappointed with St. Lucia as a destination, this charming hotel was the highlight of our trip. Thanks and kudos to Cheryl and her staff for making us feel welcome and giving us a private oasis away from home!

My wife, 7 yr old son and I spent out first three nights here during a two week vacation in February 2005. We arrived late afternoon after a one and a half hour taxi ride from Hewanorra airport which cost us US$65. We booked through Tradewinds and found it slightly more pricey than the next three hotels we went to with Opodo.com - mainly because it didn't include breakfast in the price. We stayed in a ground floor room near the poolside which was spacious with a queen bed and a large sofabed for our son, TV, and air conditioning, fridge and kitchen sink. There are only eleven rooms so it is quite intimate. When we stayed only three or four of the rooms appeared in use. There is a US$3 daily charge for use of a padlock to secure a floor safe lid in the room. Lots of flowers were left daily. The bathroom had a very large shower/wetroom section which was only slightly spoiled by poor water pressure on the showerhead. The pool was small and very clean...in fact all day staff were cleaning and maintaining constantly. We were disorientated so straight after checking in we walked about and found we were a short 200 metre walk across the carpark opposite the hotel to the Spinnakers restaurant and Reduit beach. The beach is quite developed compared with the quieter more southern coves we visited later in the holiday, but has great sand and small waves. Cruise ship passengers are dropped off here late morning. We camped out on towels in front of the Rex hotel and had our own umbrella (a freebe from Greece!) but I think people were being charged US$12 for a brolly and two chairs. There were half a dozen local pedlars selling 'lava bead' necklaces or plying for trade on watersports - but all were friendly and non-threatening and by day two they must have recognised our umbrella and didn't bother us much again. Our first breakfast was disappointing at the hotel and seemed expensive so we self-catered the next two mornings. There is a poorly stocked small mart nearby, or the large well stocked 'JC' Mall just over a quarter mile hike (with 'Popeyes', Burger King, Domino's and KFC's if you yearn for junk food - we didn't). The top floor of the Mall has a food-hall with four local takeaway outlets for delicious and very cheap local food (e.g. EC$10 for baked chicken & rice). Tables are provided. The St. Lucia Bank is also in the Mall for changing travellers cheques etc and is also open Saturday mornings in this location only. A few tramps hang about the Mall but none bothered us. I told my son that the one with one leg was a pirate! We ate some of the local spicy beef patties from the small bakery next to the supermarket which were tasty. They also stock the delicious Piton Shandy in various flavours. In the evenings we ate at Spinnakers for the Valentines Special menu which was delicious - particularly the seafood pancake appetiser which is on the regular menu also. Another night we ate at the Eagle's Nest just along the road from our hotel on the harbourside. We had the earlybird dinner with four courses, including fresh tuna & Kingfish which was great and cheap at only EC$35 per person. The tank full of lobsters was entertaining for our son too. If we had had more time we would have eaten there again.
Our only complaint concerning our hotel was that in the evenings guests favoured the poolside table right next to our room for late drinks and on occasion this was quite loud. We were hitting the sack earlier than most due to having a young child, but if you're up late this wouldn't bother you. Even with earplugs I was struggling to sleep properly (I suggest earplugs anyway if you're a light sleeper because noisy treefrogs and crickets were calling all night everywhere on the island). My wife paticularly loved this hotel and as we intend to visit St. Lucia again, this is one of the places we would choose for its small intimate atmosphere, position near Reduit beach and just far enough from the bustle of Rodney Bay village.

We booked a number of rooms at a number of hotels for guests attending our wedding in St. Lucia. My family were relatively happy for the first part of their stay. However, I was shocked when I visited my family there one day during our stay. When I got there I found my elderly aunts (in their 80s and 70s) moving all their belongings from their rooms to two rooms across the courtyard (in the blazing midday sun). I found out that they had been told another customer had booked and they were told they had to give up their rooms for the other customer. I went to speak to the lady on the desk. She confirmed this was the case. She was dismissive and rude. I told her this treatment of my family was unacceptable and I asked why the other customers who'd booked couldn't stay in other rooms. She told me that they usually stayed in the same rooms and wanted those rooms. I pointed out that this wasn't fair and asked why the other customers' wishes were being prioritised to the disadvantage of my aunts - she told me that they were regular customers and were more important. Words cannot express my shock. I asked if she could contact her senior managers - she told me that she couldn't because it was "the Sabbath" (it was a Sunday), I asked if she was saying that management were not ever available on a Sabbath; she told me that was the case. I asked if anyone was going to help my elderly parents repeatedly lug all their belongings across the courtyard. She told me she might be able to find someone from housekeeping. This help never transpired. Finally, I asked if my aunts would receive some sort of compensation for the massive inconvenience - she laughed at me and then asked why should they receive any compensation. She then said "they haven't paid us! They paid Expedia!". I know that every person reading this review will immediately see that this is a ridiculous argument and would only have any validity if Ginger Lily were letting Expedia keep all the payment for their rooms and allowed people to stay for free. This is patently not the case. In summary, we were disgusted by the treatment of my family, paying customers, and the hostility of the lady on reception I spoke to. This had a negative impact on their holiday and we felt bad for booking them into this hotel. I'm sure if you are one of these "preferred" customers she referred to, then the service you receive will be amazing. If not, there is the risk that you won't be valued in the same way and the treatment you receive will reflect this. In terms of the hotel, the photos don't really reflect the hotel. The pool certainly didn't look like that, it was full of debris and nobody in their right mind would swim in it. It's a place to stay. Better service would make for a better experience though.

If you are looking for a quiet intimate hotel that is very original when compared to the other chain hotels then you can't go wrong at Ginger Lily. There were a total of 10 of us on a holiday away from work and the families. This small boutique hotel felt like home and we felt at home sitting by the pool in the early evening. The rooms including the bathroom are exceptionally large with plenty of room to feel completly comfortable. The food in the restaurant is just as good.

Upon our arrival we were given a room that was satisfactory in appearance except that when I took a shower there was no way to completely turn the water off. We immediately reported the continual leak and were moved to another room.

We left for lunch and visited the nearby beach. Upon our arrival I took a quick shower to rinse the sea salt off but my wife decided to take a quick nap. During her nap I went to a nearby bar and when I returned I was told that there was no water. While all nearby establishments seemed to continue serving customers without a hitch, the Ginger Lily hotel told us that they did not have their water tank connected and as such they were trying to find a plumber. There was absolutely no urgency in their response and in fact the owners by and large lounged poolside all day. They were lounging by the pool when we arrived and continued to relax for the remainder of the day despite this water shortage.

My wife is originally from St. Lucia and knows that it is customary that hotels are seldom affected by water shortages for a couple of reasons. First, virtually all businesses utilize water tanks which are attached to their plumbing system to accommodate the occasional water shortage. Second, the water authority goes to great pains to give establishments hours and sometimes days of advanced notice of a water shortage, even sending trucks of water directly to hotels so that the local tourism industry is not hampered by water outages. This therefore makes the idea of a hotel in the tourist centric, suburban, north of the island utterly absurd.

Despite this unacceptable situation, my wife attempted to rinse off in the drips of water that still trickled out of the shower head; we got dressed and went out for dinner. When we returned after 11p.m. that evening we were met with an asleep security guard (photo enclosed) who upon being roused offered us each a gallon of bottled water to use for baths and drink. We were both aghast. Every St. Lucian that we have shared this story with has laughed in disbelief at the “accommodations” that we received. My wife was born and raised on the island and never experienced having to bathe out of a cup and sit in a room with unflushed feces and certainly did not expect to have that experience on vacation. Moreover, we certainly expected that the hotel management would at least find a way to compensate us for our inconvenience. Instead the owner told a sloppy lie about the impending arrival of an imaginary large wedding party and no attempt was made to offer even a partial refund. The hotel clerk told me that they were only human and that my St. Lucian wife should understand this situation. Well she does not and neither do I. The laissez- faire attitude of the staff, the failure to be proactive in planning for water shortages, the complete lack of urgency to find a plumber and the complete refusal to compensate us for the inconvenience were baffling.

Upon our departure the desk clerk told my wife that a member of the “wedding party” was on standby and that if a room opened up she would call us. Well not only did that never happen but when we called from the contact number that we provided for them, they refused to answer the phone. We called from my mother in law’s cell phone and immediately received and answer and upon inquiring about roomavailability we were told that there were plenty of vacant rooms.

We are contacting Expedia to receive a full refund. Lack of access to water in the absence of any unexpected natural disaster is totally unacceptable and completely unsanitary. I don’t expect to book a 4.5 star hotel on Expedia and end up staying at an establishment with no running water and shoddy night time security that is literally asleep at the switch.

Response from glstlucia, Manager at Ginger Lily Hotel
Responded Jul 17, 2012
The management, the staff and myself pride ourselves on our reputation. We therefore have to respond to this very unfair review. During the time in question we were struck with some bad luck. The pump of our back up water reservoir broke down at the same as the St Lucian Water Company cut the water for maintenance. This guest was only inconvenienced for just two hours while our plumber went to purchased a new part. We provided him and all guests with large bottled waters during this time to allow them to brush teeth, wash face etc. Upon check out the guest demanded that we compensated him for another complimentary night's stay just for being inconvenienced for those 2 hours. What we are puzzled by is, if the guest had such a terrible time as they calmed to have had, why would they continue to telephone the next day enquiring about further availability? In response to the security guard sleeping, we are presently in negotiations with a new Security company.

The Ginger Lily is a beautiful, small hotel across from the Rex Hotels.
The manager Cheryl made us a memorable dinner our first night and we felt like honored guests through out our stay. Our room was so clean with every attention to detail. We just loved the Ginger Lily!

We stayed at Ginger Lily for 21 nights. And I have to say, that after exploring the whole island and meeting so many people(locals and tourists), we came to the conclusion that this was the best decision we could take.

The room & bathroom are large and clean. There is a fridge in the room you can use to keep the drinks cold. There is a kettle and a filter coffee machine in the kitchen. When you arrive you will find 2 bottles of water in the fridge (free of charge). It has 11 rooms, which makes it even a nicer retreat (compared to other hotels in the area that have 100, 200 or 300 rooms, therefore more people). It's not all inclusive, but I think it's a better choice if you are looking to travel around the island and explore. Every room has a patio or a balcony with a hammock.

There is a continental breakfast included which consist in toast, gem, tea/coffee, juice, yogurt and a banana. Which we thought it was more than enough for a breakfast. You can upgrade if you want to traditional for extra charge, we didn't.

It's close to the beach, just cross the street, walk a few meters and the beach is there.

It also has a pool, which is really great. Whenever we wanted to take a swim, but we did not want to be around so many people (like on the beach) the pool was the perfect place to hang around.

It is close to so many restaurants and the Rodney Bay Mall and The Baywalk Shopping Mall. There is 1 supermarket in each mall from where you can buy drinks and whatever else you need.

It's also close to The Rodney Bay Marina (from where we took a one day trip to Martinique), Gros Islet village (where every Friday there is a street party) and Pigeon Island.
On the other hand, it's kind of far from the Pitons, waterfalls, drive in volcano and mud bath. What we did, we hired a car for 2 days and we got to see everything. I mean, you can take the trips if you want, but we find them to be quite expensive and you have to stick to their own schedule, so we did it our way.

The Police Station is right across the street and there is a security man watching over the hotel during the night.

And last, but not least, I have to say the the staff was wonderful as well. Everybody was so helpful and friendly. Oh, and they also have their own taxi driver (Mano) which we would highly recommend.

We stayed at the ginger lily on January 31 2017. After we checked in I went to shave and there was no water to my room. I checked with the front desk and was advised a plumber was doing some repair work and had turned off the water. It would be turned on shortly and this was a temporary problem. The water was working when we went to bed. At about 5 in the morning I woke up with an extremely dry mouth and throat. I went to get a glass of water but there was no water to our room. I went to the front desk and it was closed so I asked the security guard for a glass of water. He checked the washroom and there was no water coming from he taps. He was not allowed access to the kitchen or anywhere in the hotel that might have water. He apparently had no access to call anyone from management to get water. I had to call a taxi to bring me a bottle of water. In the morning the water was on when I woke up. I went down to the pool to find my spouse and plan our day. I decided to go back to the room, and shower. Again no water. We checked out and asked to speak to a manager. We were told there was no manager. We asked for a refund and we were advised that there wasn't anyone with authority to provide a refund and the owners were in Europe. It was suggested we should have brought our own water which we would often do but this was a one night stay before our flights. Found it astonishing that there was no apologies and was told that there was never a plumber working on anything but rather a finicky water pump.

Clearly the setup is unsafe. If anything happens in the night you are on your own. I urge people to consider alertnative accommodation.

Bait and switch St. Lucia style. Went to this hotel and asked for a room. They quoted me a price and told me to come back in 2 hrs. when the room was ready. I came back in 2 hrs. and they told me "we have some bad news". They had misquoted the price and told me the room would be $60 U.S. more per night. I was on a limited budget and talked to the manager. The manager was rude, offensive, and would not honor the original quote. I'm reminded of the saying "if the person you talk to can't say yes, then talk to someone who can". I left the Ginger Lily and got a much better deal, a better room, a beach, great customer service, and a better view across the street.
Skip the Ginger Lily, try anywhere else if you want professional accomodations and courteous staff.

Response from glstlucia, Owner at Ginger Lily Hotel
Responded Jan 8, 2015
Unfortunately, this really was a genuine mistake and our front desk staff and Manager were very apologetic. We have no reason whatsoever to deliberately try and mislead guests, our current rates are always available and updated online. We understand this must have been a frustrating situation but unfortunately, this guest was rude and offensive to the staff and Manager. We are pleased that the guest was happy he found alternative accommodation elsewhere.
