Bel Jou Hotel garners high praise for its cleanliness, with guests frequently noting the pristine condition of the rooms and grounds. The staff's friendliness and commitment to service often receive accolades, contributing to the hotel's value for money. While the range of amenities and vibrant entertainment, including steel bands and fire eaters, are appreciated, some visitors mention additional charges and the need for bookings. Despite the hotel's peaceful setting, a few guests suggest the location is somewhat isolated, necessitating transport arrangements.

My daughter and I stayed at the Bel Jou for Christmas 2019 and the New Year as well.
On arrival we were offered cold drinks and relaxed in a beautiful lounge in reception.

First impressions of the hotel were lovely, with beautiful Christmas decorations and a Christmas tree to complete the welcome in reception.

The staff were very welcoming and concerned as I was not feeling too well after the 1 hour transfer on a very twisty road (have been known to be travel sick in my youth!!).

The room was really beautiful, ocean view, with two large beds, so comfy, decorated with petals on the bed together with a pool towel on arrival. The room was large with a balcony and the view was breathtaking. You can actually see Martinique on a clear day. The bathroom was a very good size with toiletries, tissues and lovely towels provided. The shower had a security handle and mat provided, great so you do not slip over in the shower. A real bonus were the tea/coffee making facilities. The hairdryer was the best I have ever had in an hotel.

There is air conditioning in the room.

The rooms were serviced to a very high standard and we were very impressed. It was quiet and we felt very safe.

The two pools were cleaned daily, the upper pool we used for aqua gym, which was taken by Jaffrey together with his stretch classes and Pilates classes, which were taken in a room by the pool. What can we say about Jaffrey? His enthusiasm was infectious, always laughing and so happy. His classes were a joy, and very necessary to work off the lovely food!!!

The larger pool situated below was lovely, a real suntrap. On New Year's Eve we had cocktails and canapes served by the pool before dinner, so lovely and the staff were great. Afterwards we had dinner and then to the rooftop bar for dancing and desserts, watching the fireworks. It was amazing. We only wish we could dance and move like the people of St. Lucia, one day perhaps!!!

Christmas night we were treated to some local singers as we ate dinner, they were really good.

There are so many lovely things to describe this hotel, it is difficult to write everything here.

All the staff, from gardeners to the Manager were charming and with a good sense of humour, which you certainly need when dealing with the general public.

We felt so welcome and comfortable here, we met a wide range of age groups, some older, some younger, and some travelling alone. The older ones, and I include myself in this category, certainly knew how to enjoy themselves, a real tonic for living your life to the full.

The gardens surrounding the hotel were lovely, lots and lots of birds and bird feeders for the humming birds. The birds would eat out of your hands, so tame.

This hotel is on my return list, yes there are steps to climb, but it keeps you fit. We loved every moment. All the staff made our holiday so enjoyable, memorable, and most of all, lots of fun.

Thank you to everyone, and as Jaffrey used to say at the end of a class, big hugs from me to you.

So we've just returned from a week in this lovely hotel, booked with BA holidays, seemed very good value and it ticked all our boxes. If I'm honest I am a bit of a snob when it comes to all inclusive type hotels and don't like the idea of wearing a wristband or being charged for drinks after checkout - well the Bel Jou delivered on this and more. The staff only needed a room number from you when eating and drinks were served without question. Although hotel checkout is midday there is a very nice courtesy room provided to take a shower and change and the food and drinks are again served without question until your transport collects you. A nice touch.

Our room was on the ground floor of the lower block, perfect for dipping in and out of whilst round the pool. It was kept spotlessly clean by Tessa in housekeeping and there was no noise from anyone getting back to their rooms at night. The place is kept so clean with staff working well, always with a smile and always friendly.

Food was very tasty with something to please all tastes. There is a buffet both at lunch and in the evening but if you'd rather be served lunch and dinner then that's available too. We took a few trips out to the local beaches - we preferred Vigie beach which is just down the road, rather than Rodney bay which we found quite commercial but still very beautiful.

The hotel does seem to attract an older clientele but this works well, no-one got loud or drunk and you felt very safe to leave your possessions out whilst going to lunch etc. It really made for a very pleasant stay and I would certainly recommend it.

If there is a paradise then this is it. What an amazing holiday at the Bel Jou Hotel set high up in the hills of Castries.

A generous warm welcome on our arrival with sparkling wine. Our cases were taken to our room.

During our stay our room was looked after by Favriana who cared for our room beautifully. Thank you.

A choice of three locations to eat, the Veranda restaurant, Hummingbird A La Carte and Lulus Cabana, all different but all exceptional food, quality and quantity. There was nothing that we could fault. Dietary requirements are catered for but you must ask. The waitresses at all locations were more than first class, Shanel, Dyna, and Verekessa too mention just a few. All waitresses were willing to please at all times, always with a smile and all very smart, they are a credit to the hotel.

John the Front of House Chef was such a lovely guy always keen to tell you about the food they were offered daily.

Just a mention there are steps in the hotel to the Rooftop Bar, to the rooms and down to the lower and upper pools.

Both pools were beautiful, looked after daily by the attendant. The upper pool was used for some activities. The lower pool
was used for cooling off and swimming in. There were always plenty of sun loungers to be had and umbrellas. There were also 4 poster sun beds, a swing and a self serve bar.

The gardens too are well maintained and beautiful.

Bedding, room towels and pool towels are provided as are shower gel/shampoo/conditioner/body lotion.

Activities are arranged if you want to join in.

There is a free hotel shuttle bus to Castries and to Vigie Beach both only 10 minutes away.

Also special mentions for Renate in the A La Carte, to all the waitresses, to all cleaning staff, and all remaining staff who all worked so hard to make our stay s great one.

To Dean, the Manager, who was always about the hotel, always happy to talk and to listen, and, to turn his hand to anything,

All in all an amazing holiday with amazing staff and friends made. I would highly recommend this hotel advertised as 3.5 but should be a 5* you will not be disappointed.

The journey from the airport is very winding if you’re not a great traveller get done travel tablets it takes about 1.5 hrs.

The hotel provides a free shuttle bus to and from Castries, and the nearby Vijay beach. They don’t recommend that you walk into Castries, although you could. Having seen the roads, I can see why – there are lots of hairpin bends, and pavements are mostly non-existent outside of the city. Without wishing to be rude, some of the drivers could do with taking lessons again.

Everyone at the hotel was lovely, very friendly. We were greeted by being taken into a sitting room, and offered a fruit drink while we registered. There is a veranda restaurant where we had breakfast, and which was also open for lunch and dinner – all buffet style. There was always a good selection of food, an egg station (which also served other specialities such as pancakes, depending on which day it was). One of the chefs, Gideon, sang to us while cooking, which was a wonderful start to the day. It was an art form watching the chefs cooking omelettes on a hot plate – not the way that Delia taught me, but beautifully cooked, nonetheless. The veranda restaurant held the entertainment most evenings – sometimes live music, sometimes disco.

There was also an A la Carte restaurant for the evening, which was an absolute delight and where they served an amuse bouche between starter and main course.

At lunch time, there was a poolside bar where they’d prepare freshly cooked fish and chips, a selection of salads and other things.

All of the restaurants catered for any special dietary requirements such as gluten free, vegetarian, etc, and if you asked for anything special, they’d arrange it.

Thursday was Caribbean barbecue night, so all the food was served outside the upper pool. There was a steel band – a very good steel band, I find it fascinating how they make such wonderful sounds, and fire eaters.

It was a lovely hotel, a lovely stay and I had a great time. I hope I can go back again soon. I wish I could upload the photographs - the view from the Veranda and the birthday cake they made for my friend - but I keep getting an error message.

There is no doubt that this is a very good hotel, with exceptional staff, exhilarating views and good facilities overall. It is not perfect however and I feel its important to share a review that gives people the opportunity to make an informed decision as to whether this is the right choice for them.

The only negative we could find was the food. This does require some improvement sadly. It was edible, but not a lot of choice, luke warm
most days and quite often, running low. The biggest disappointment for our own stay was Christmas day. Several guests complained, but they basically ran out of food. There was no turkey option which was fine, however what was there was poor. I decided on the suckling pig but was basically a carcass by the time we came to
eat (8pm, service opened at 7) I was offered a slice of fat, not meat and when I asked for some meat he struggled to find any. We found that as the number is guests increased over the time we were there, the food quality declined.

I must exclude Lulus from this, as food always good and cooked to order so our choice for lunch.

Aside from the quibble over food, you cannot fault the staff, the attentive service, and friendliness.

Location is great if you want to be removed from the hustle and bustle and enjoy wonderful views. It is not good if you like to get out and about easily. Steep is an understatement. You cannot walk to beach. A shuttle is provided however, free of charge to Castries and Vigie Beach. The shuttle also goes to Rodney Bay and Pigeon Island for a small fee.

Facilities are good all round. However, this hotel is built into a steep hill and there are a lot of steps so really not great for anyone with mobility or heart problems.

A lot of reviews mention older clientele and to a degree they are correct. This is a former saga hotel with a legacy of repeat guests from this age group. However, while we were there I would say a third of the guests with us were between 45-55 and some in their 20's and 30's enjoying a break with their family. We are in our 40's. It depends what you are looking for in a holiday and for us, this was (food excluded) pretty near to perfect.

We rarely go to the same place twice so unlikely to return for this reason only. However, if I were to go to St Lucia again I certainly would have no qualms in returning to the Bel Jou.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We are saddened our buffet options did not meet your expectations, however, we acknowledge some of the challenges faced during the Christmas dinner especially and sincerely apologize for the disappointments. Happy to know the food at Lulu's Cabana was more to your preference and met your expectations. We appreciated you bringing this to our attention and Chef did his best in correcting the areas which needed attention. Kudos to all the staff who ensured the other areas of your stay was looked after and made you feel comfortable. Glad to know all the other aspects of your stay was enjoyable and relaxing. We thank you for staying with us and look forward to welcoming you back in the near future, even though this is not your norm! Warm Regards.

As with many other reviewers, this lovely smaller hotel is a treasure. We haven't done many all inclusive but found after doing trips and other activities we didn't get around to eating anywhere else other than a few beach cafes which were generally good. Its the friendly service, views, location and general vibe that make this so appealing to an older but not past it crowd. I really enjoyed the bbq evening, island music and other entertainment the best. What better than to be outside in the evening with a drink on the rooftop bar or round the pool, no pressure to join in. It does go on from 9-11pm with a strict end time but hey, you are on holiday so just go with the flow.It does have to compete with the whistling tree frogs. A very very minor point is that the very old sort of ancient sixties bland cover music should be dropped.

Due to being up a steep hill so you do need the shuttle, own transport or taxis to get around the island. We chose not to drive so used the shuttle to the town and the local beach. You pay a little bit for Pigeon island which has an old fort (pay to enter also but not much) fantastic views, a lovely small beach and calm bathing. The local beach had mixed reactions by guest but its clean with a few cafes but can have rougher enjoyable waves.
But hey this is St.Lucia so go out on all trips, don't miss a boat trip, or chocolate making or the mud baths or anything. The hotel has the helpful reception who can book or advise and local agents man a desk all day to advise you. We loved the rainforest cable car, small so peaceful and a small walk around area, most ages could do this. St Lucia is rural with not a highly developed infrastructure but the interaction with Tourists is friendly and the island deserves huge respect.

It's difficult to find fault with this hotel. The staff are helpful, friendly and always smiling. The food is good in quality, variety and quantity. The rooms are clean and well-serviced.
The hotel is situated on a hillside overlooking Castries, the port and capital city of St Lucia. We were welcomed by cool, refreshing facecloths and a cold fruit drink - both much needed after travelling for 19 hours ( home to Gatwick, wait at Gatwick, 8 hour flight, airport to resort hotel). Our room had two kingsize beds and a balcony view overlooking the lower pool and the coast.
As well as standard international cuisine there were always one or two local dishes to try at each meal. The bars served an interesting selection of their own cocktails as well almost anything else you might like.
The gym and coffee bar/library are open 24 hours a day if you want to work off a few pounds from eating so well or find a book to relax with by the pool.
There was evening entertainment each day, the best being Thursday's barbecue night with a steel pan band, local folk dancers, fire-eating and a disco!
During the day you can have a go at Pilates and aquarobics in the morning or try something different later like a mixology competition to create your own cocktail or coconut skittles.
Still trying to think of any downsides... but haven't thought of any yet. Have a great time here.
Oh, and don't forget to watch the humming birds.

We had a lovely stay at the Bel Jou earlier this year, and being some of the last guests at the hotel before it was closed, we were so appreciative of the amazing staff who did everything they could to make our stay the best it could possibly be (particularly in light of the COVID situation which was obviously really troubling for all of those working at the hotel, as well as for guests who were worried about making it home). The staff are a credit to the hotel and really made the experience for us.

On top of this the food was varied and delicious, (we liked the a la carte option) and the free shuttle to the beach was a nice touch too! Would say the beach that the shuttle takes you to is nice enough but nothing special (we didn’t get the opportunity to visit other beaches). However for those wanting to be close to the town, or on a beachfront I would note that the hotel is quite far up into the hills (a very steep walk from the town). Not an issue for us as we like exploring and venturing out but appreciate it might be for some people. The grounds of the hotel are also quite small for those who like to wonder around and explore (it has more of a boutique feel), although they are beautifully kept! The views out over Castries and overlooking the sea are also amazing, as well as the sunsets.

All in all a lovely stay and we can only thank all the wonderful staff for being so friendly and attentive!

My partner and I have just come back from an incredible break away. I do not normally leave reviews but I'm the most relaxed I think I've ever been in my life and that was largely down to the hotel. We stayed at the Bel Jou, in the garden bungalows. I am not sure where to start....
The hotel is located hillside in castries, and the views you get to enjoy everyday because of that are just breathtaking, if you have a camera, prepare yourself for those sunsets. Due to its location the hotel provides a free shuttle service to castries and the beach, I believe daily which was so helpful. Once at the beach, which had complimentary sun loungers set up for hotel guests, there was a really great guy there to greet you, there's a bar and toilets near by. It should be noted however if people struggle with mobility there are a fair few steps at the hotel.
The hotel is so beautifully kept, the groundsmen work so hard and keep the grounds just stunning to walk around everyday. The hotel have their own garden where they grow their own produce and serve in the restaurants.
The food was beautiful, plenty of fresh fish and local dishes, I really enjoyed it because there were more than enough options without being too much, it felt like more of a dinning experience than a buffet. The food really was incredible. We booked the ala carte also whilst we were away and that was also worth doing, it is included as well but we honestly preferred dinning with the views of the terrace. There was a little coffee shop there as well with fresh bakes and sandwiches, coffee and various tea which was a really charming feature.
We only tried the bottom pool as it was our favourite spot whilst we were there. As there's a few steps, toilets and a self serve bar are provided down there. Never overcrowded at all which was why I think we were so relaxed.
Oh the gyms good as well, although I think I made it 1 day and then the food and rum won.
The staff were all fantastic, after the flight back I'm terrible and have forgotten names but they really make the hotel. Really lovely waiting staff.
The rooms were a great size, comfy beds, robes provided, so clean. The only thing I may have liked was a blanket because I have one regardless of the heat, that is the only thing I can say. It really was just an incredible place to stay and I can't say enough about it. Thank you Bel Jou.

We spent two excellent weeks at the Bel Jou hotel, St. Lucia. The staff could not have been more helpful or friendly, from the reception area to the gardener & the handyman.
The food was superb, in quality, quantity & variety. We ate most evenings in the a la carte restaurant,( at no extra charge ) and the service was first class. Often the wines in an All inclusive hotel are rubbish but here they were excellent.
The room was fine, large with a huge king sized bed. The linen & towels were frequently changed.
There were many guests there who come every year, & we were not surprised.

There was something on every night, some times just a dj or a singer , a karaoke and one night there is a bbq and dancers and a steel band , During the day there is pool aerobics and then background music, as this is a adults only quiet hotel . Some guests when we where there complained about the party vibe, they should have done their research as the majority of people were there for the laid back peace and quite with fun evenings
