We stayed at La Dunette for four nights before going back to Europe. We had been travelling around Saint Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines by sailing boat and we were tired when we arrived a Friday evening. The rooms we had booked was spacious and felt newly renovated. We had paid extra for sea view and it was worth it!
We already had read about that there was music entertainment on Friday and Saturday and so it was!
The hotel has a bar and a restaurant just under the rooms but we managed to fall asleep early anyway because we were so tired.
The staff in the reception is very friendly and helpful but the staff doing the breakfast buffet doesn’t know how to smile....
If you want to go for a morning swim it’s easy from the hotels porch.
Be careful with the drinks in the bar, they are strong!

It is a nice, small, plain and inexpensive hotel. If you get a seaside side room you'll have a great view. The restaurant is decent, too. The town is charming with a good municipal beach, better than the Club Med section of it. You're within a short driving distance of Les Salines, a fantastic beach.

We came to Ste. Anne in November so we took advantage of low-season prices at La Dunette. We agree with other reviews that say the rooms were modest but clean and that it is in a great location. There were lights on both sides of the bed for reading which we really appreciated. The hallways are a bit depressing and also very warm; a vent to let the hot air out would be helpful. One nice thing about the air conditioners is that the condensors are on the roof or somewhere so it is quiet and you can have the AC on and be on the balcony for a bit as well. We did have a 2nd floor ocean view room but if you have a street view, I'm not sure how pleasant it would be. The nice big beach is a doable walk north of the hotel and there are some nice views along the way. We thought it was as nice as Les Salines which is much hyped. There is also a smaller beach just south of the fishing pier, past a small dive business. We thought the breakfasts were great. Most mornings there was some scrambled egg in addition to fantastic croissants that they make themselves as well as more normal hotel breakfast fare. My boyfriend had good luck with the wifi in the common area for his ipad, but my iphone and ipad seemed to have sporadic access. The bed was comfortable. The owner and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The Hotel Dunette provided a good base for our first visit to Martinique. It's well located right on the water in the center of St. Anne, a charming town in the extreme southwest with a few great restaurants and shops, but also close proximity to two of the best beaches on Martinique -- Pointe Marin, less than 10 minutes walk to the left from La Dunette and the even longer Les Salinas, about 10 minutes drive to the right. If you don't mind climbing stairs, our room, #16, offered a picture-postcard view of yachts anchored in the harbor, distant mountains, iconic Diamond Rock, and a spectacular vantage for the nightly sunset. The room was fairly spartan, and the bathroom definitely could use updating, but it was clean and adequate. The hotel restaurant is good, but we'd also recommend Otantik and Tamarinds. The included breakfast featured fresh croissants from a nearby boulangerie, fresh fruit, and coffee dispensed from a machine that seemed to confound some guests. There is live music and dancing in the bar, often Thursday-Sunday, which draws not only hotel guests but townies and passengers from the yachts. If that appeals to you, then it's the best nightlife in St. Anne; otherwise, be forewarned that the noise from directly below the sleeping rooms will make sleep impossible before 10:30 PM, so be sure to ask what is planned if you are early-to-bed/early-to-rise. For English speakers, also be forewarned that you will find that most staff in shops, restaurants, and Hotel Dunette only speak French (the lovely and most helpful manager, Sophie, notwithstanding, although she was not usually available). All in all, Hotel Dunette was for us an affable and well-located choice, but with features that might be off-putting to some guests. (NOTE: There is wi-fi, but only in the bar, not the sleeping rooms.)

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room facing the harbor where you enjoy spectacular sunset views.

We stayed at La Dunette for 3 nights in February 2009. The rooms were modest, clean, A/C'ed. We had a sea-view and a lovely balcony. The hotel features an excellent restaurant, dining outside, right on the water. There was live music and dancing every night we were there.

The staff was extremely helpful, helped us find transportation, lent us maps, directed us to amazing hidden walking paths to Les Salines, a one-of-a-kind unique beach about an hour walk.

La Dunette is right in the center of this quaint touristy town -- in fact, many locals came to the bar for drinks and socializing. There are numerous eateries and a cute market only steps away.

Highly recommend it!

This is a very nice hotel in the center of St Anne and direct at the sea side.
My room had a great view over the bay of St Anne with all the many sailing boats.
The staff was very nice and helpful.
The breakfast was included - simple, but good.
In the restaurant you can sit direct at the water.
The design is Caribbean.

I can recommend to visit a ceremony at the local church. It is a great way to see the local community.
Every day there is a small market in the morning 2 min from the hotel, where you can buy Rum-Punch and local spices.

La Dunette is the affordable alternative to Club Med in Ste Anne. The location is great, within walking distance of the collective taxis downtown, and close to the public beach. Lots of shops are just steps away.

We booked La Dunette and we were aware that it was not an upscale boutique hotel. The reviews indicated that the bedding was firm. I realize this is a personal comfort zone issue, but more than a few nights I would have personally had back aches with this bedding. We chose the hotel for a short visit to be near Martinique's highly touted most beautiful beach - Les Salines, which is a just few miles away. (That beach is incredible!) On the plus side the manager let us check in early and the room was clean and the bathroom was large and updated. We had the largest room with sea view as it was the only one available when we booked. It was nice to have the extra space. On the negative side, the dressing table in the room needed to be discarded and replaced - looked like it had suffered water damage in the past. The biggest drawback for me was that the hallway was very tired looking with musty smelling carpeting. Again, I could be more sensitive to the smell because I have a sensitive nose and allergies. It took a while to get accustomed to the fact that hallway lights were on timers and you had to press a button every time you entered the hallway to get lights to come on. In terms of parking, you do have to park on a nearby street or in the village parking lot about a half a block away - this is where the interesting open air market is located. At the hotel, there is one space to pull over to unload luggage. It was occupied at the time of our arrival, so we had to wait our turn before moving our car to unload bags. Wi-fi was only available downstairs, which I knew would be the case. We had dinner in the restaurant and thought it was excellent. Breakfast was provided and it was fine. All the staff members were very nice and the downstairs restaurant area overlooking the water is really quite a magical setting. A few improvements to the hotel rooms and this place could get a much higher rating.

Not fancy but friendly, well situated (15 min walk to stunning, long beach) and , if you make sure you have the sea view (50% of the rooms have), waking up to the coconut trees poking up through the restaurant roof is something you won't forget, as are the sunsets over the bay and the yachts.

Staff are helpful, rooms are kept clean and the occasional music evening (including the local zouk) are enjoyable too.

Pick the right time of year (definitely out of the hurricane season when it can be unbearably hot) and you cannot go wrong.
