Skylark means to laze about, idle, goof off, engage in shenanigans, tomfooleries and loaf, which are perfect ways to describe your Negril beach vacation. Located on Negril’s iconic Seven Mile Beach, facing due west towards spectacular nightly sunsets, the 43-room resort is the sister property to the town’s beloved Rockhouse Hotel. While prioritizing our guest’s experience, and nurturing the spirit of the amazing team, Skylark undertakes environment best practice (a member of Regenerative Travel) while puts back into the community through the Rockhouse Foundation. Beautifully designed oversized guest rooms (almost all rooms are over 400 sq. ft), with king-size four post beds, an amazing full service rooftop spa with bathhouses overlooking the ocean, incredible food, service and vibes at Negril's favorite restaurant Miss Lily's, and activities including yoga, candle making, farm tour, local school tour and our psilocybin soundbath every Sunday.

Hotel's Favourite
From the time you enter the gates of Skylark, you emerge into a segment of paradise. Its beauty and simplicity oozes a charm that instantly makes you feel comfortable but expectant for what is to come. This hotel immediately starts to decompress any stresses you may have had in the most delightful way possible. The Front Desk staff was friendly and attentive, the interaction started with a much-welcomed drink.

Many people feel that life on a tropical island holiday means an extensive all-inclusive resort with sprawling grounds, several restaurants, and pools, I normally stay at resorts like these. Skylark is not it! However, let me assure you, this was one of the best holiday stays I have ever had.

Skylark has many eco-friendly features across the hotel, which are so easily incorporated into staying there, and the rooms have hand-made soaps, natural shampoos, and products. Good Wi-Fi, and nice-sized balconies with views of the garden or sea. There are no lifts (elevators) in the hotel, however, I saw some people with disabilities and ages there, so requesting a ground-floor room is possible. A beachfront with only 28 rooms set in beautiful well-maintained grounds that lead straight to the beach, and a marvellous restaurant called Miss Lily's that not only hotel guests come to, but people come from far and wide to taste this culinary magic!

With azure blue, warm and swimmable sea; white sands and blue skies; and sunsets that turn the skies shades of pink, orange, violet, amber, red and blue. I never tired of going to the beach, chilling, swimming, and snorkeling. I learned to paddleboard, and receive support to improve my skills. Walking up the beach and local area was and felt safe, there is a shopping centre nearby, and you can enjoy horse riding, boat trips, and paragliding.

My daughter and I had the pleasure of trying Skylark's Spa and Bathhouse, an open-air rooftop centre with magnificent views. I opted for the Deep Back Massage and my daughter the Body Massage. We were at the hands of Sophia and Veronica, who made us totally at ease, and we ended our time there, sitting and relaxing soaking up the rooftop view. Alisa (Guest Services Manager) puts herself out to ensure guests are having a good time and answering queries, including during our stay. All in all the staff were fantastic including great chefs, committed gardeners, and servers.

Skylark is linked to its sister hotel, The Rockhouse and there is a free shuttle going there at fixed times of the day. Alternatively, you can take a 15-minute taxi ride at a reasonable cost. Skylark guests can use the facilities there once they complete a simple registration. The Rockhouse has a totally difference vibe (see my Rockhouse review). We went there three times during our week and I learned to snorkel there as it is surrounded by a living and stunning coral reef. The hotels' owners set up ‘The Rockhouse Foundation’ which specialises in funding improvements to local primary schools, and learning facilities and providing specialist facilities and teachers for children with special educational needs. We learned that staff in both hotels volunteer with the foundation, from Skylark, we spoke to Ricardo (Front Desk) and Michelle (Boutique). Not all hotels care about the local people or the environment, but Skylark does and the staff equally are happy and give excellent service. Special thanks to Steve on the Front Desk.

It was my first time in Negril and yes, I want to go back! Once you are there, you will realize that Skylark Negril Beach Resort is a special place.

This was our first time to Skylark on the seven mile Negril Jamaica beach. From the moment we arrived we were met by friendly helpful staff, to tears when we left. I can’t say enough about the staff they are the True Team. They are working on one goal and that is to keep you on “Vacation” and no worries. The room was beautiful. Room has a safe and a well stocked refrigerator and snack basket that has everything from candy/chips to sun tan lotion, and the charges for these items are very reasonable, no price gouging. And if you want the front desk will arrange transportation and make dinner reservations to many many local restaurants. We used their transportation service that was spot on. They told you how much the trans was to the dollar and after 40 years of going to Negril the rates were cheaper than dealing with local drivers. This is now our destination. I hated to write this review because now you know about our secret. Enjoy and love Jamaica as we do.

My partner and I stayed at Skylark from December 5th - December 20th, 2021.

I couldn't have been more impressed with the staff, resort and overall experience at Skylark. I would definitely recommend this hotel to any traveller interested in experiencing Negril on a more intimate and local level.

Every element of our stay was welcomed with a willingness to go 'above and beyond' to ensure we had a great experience. Checking in was smooth, seamless and CoVID precautions were in place (signage requesting mask wearing, distancing and barriers in place to keep staff and guests safe). The quick process of checking in was accompanied by a WhatsApp message so we had a point of contact should anything be needed. This was very helpful and used frequently to communicate during our stay.

Rooms were well designed, modern, clean and functional. The bed was comfortable and storage for clothing was more than sufficient.

Housekeeping was very polite, efficient and did a good job of keeping our room tidy, stocked with fresh towels and toiletries every day.

Because we were working everyday during this trip, the tech staff was quick to help and make accommodations when needed and possible. This was appreciated very much given the need for connectivity for (endless) Zoom meetings. Wifi throughout the property was very good and readily accessible from the Beach, Miss Lilly's and other spots at the hotel. We never had an issue connecting and there was always a 'backup' network available.

We ordered almost every meal from Miss Lilly's. You'd assume that after two weeks, the food would become repetitive, but it definitely did not. The food was on point at every meal. Breakfasts of ackee and salt fish with boiled dumpling, callaloo and Blue Mountain coffee were plentiful and delicious. We enjoyed many freshly grilled fish for dinner, not to mention almost everything else on their menu.

Because of CoVID and the restriction of movement/curfew, the music wasn't being played very loud on the beach or at the restaurant but we could envision how incredible the vibe will be when it is safe to party again.

The Beach beds/tents were well separated and with shade enclosures, you are always able to find a space to separate from others while still enjoying the sun and beach. Ordering from the restaurant on the beach was easy and service was attentive.

If there was one element that really differentiated SkyLark and their sister hotel (Rockhouse) from almost every other hotel we have stayed at in Jamaica (and most other Caribbean and US/Canadian hotels of similar size) was the attentive nature of EVERY staff member. The security on the beach would help clear dishes. The front desk staff walking by our room would tidy up if they saw something out of place. Everyone here works together as a team and this really creates a wonderful guest experience.

Kudos to Skylark and their staff. We look forward to returning and staying again. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to visit Negril.

This was my second visit to Skylark, and in a "post-covid" world, sharing these experiences could be useful to other travelers to make informed decisions.
Check in:
We booked Kenny Tours from the airport to Skylark which I recommend should you decide to come down. They seem to have a good relationship with the properties (I've also been a guest at their sister property, Rockhouse), and is always a pleasant experience. We were met at reception by the front office team to walk us through the check-in process and have our temperature taken which was then recorded. We were given hand sanitizer to clean up before touching anything. Your passport will be scanned after you lay it flat, they will place an acrylic board over it to hold it down then take a picture to avoid touching it. There are 2 separate pen boxes ; one labeled "sanitized pens" the other "used pens".
Decor:
The rooms are nicely decorated, not too overdone/clean design, incredibly comfortable, perfect for sleeping! Excellent closet space if you are the type of person who prefers to unpack and have room to put your things away. The room comes equipped with the necessary toiletries; shampoo, conditioner, aloe, soap, etc. Because this is during the time of Covid, my mini bar was empty; I am assuming this is to minimize contact....wasn't a big deal for me.
Service:
Service was fantastic. Again, my stay was just after the country began allowing tourism again so, the services were somewhat limited. The gifts shop was closed however, the team did allow me to purchase items I forgot to pack (tooth brush, shower cap). The communication system is set up where they will message you via WhatsApp to check in on you for any requests from cleaning services, reservations, room service...whatever you need. They checked in with me daily to see if I needed anything.

Everyone is required to wear masks in public areas. You do not need to wear a mask in your room, at your table in the restaurant or at your beach chair. If you think you are capable of respecting other humans wishes to remain healthy at this time, I highly recommend this trip!

Skylark is my first traveling experience during the CoVid-19 pandemic. It’s a truly scary time, and travelers are unsure what to expect. Skylark scheduled our VIP service to expedite our arrival along with transport to the hotel. Everything was flawless, and made us feel extremely comfortable and safe. The hotel is diligent about remaining masked and check-in was no exception. There are sanitizing stations everywhere, and pens are visibly sanitized before usage. ‘Decor’ now includes signs like ‘Wash your hands’ and ‘Wear your mask’ which adds a playful touch on a serious situation, and I really appreciated it. The restaurant Miss Lily’s similarly handles everything with tremendous care (temp taken at arrival), and you see the staff constantly sanitizing themselves, salt and pepper shakers etc. You’re steps from the beach, center of the 7mile stretch, which lends itself to a gorgeous beachside day and sunset. While we were here, there was a complimentary yoga session as well which was a really special compliment to our stay. Highly recommended!

The experience at SKYLARK was “top notch” . Excellent customer service & professionalism. Located in the heart of 7 mile beach, you would be at comfort and 💯 safety. All areas had sanitizing stations and staff were all masked up. Once you moved around, you had to follow all protocols. The rooms were chic, rustic very clean and spacious. We enjoyed our patio . The beaches are maintained: Miss Lily’s Restaurant & bar influenced by multi - winning chopped Jamaican chef Andrew Fowles. Trust me it is a hit . Skylark made me fall inlove with NEGRIL again and I will return very soon , already missing there.

We had a wonderful 5 night stay at Skylark, and would absolutely book again! This was our first time in Jamaica and we feel like we got very lucky with finding this gem on the first go. We felt it was a great value for a variety of reasons:

Location: Obviously you can’t go wrong with being right on the beach. But we also loved where we were located relative to other hotels in the area. We walked up and down the beach both ways about as far as you can go; the all inclusives like Azul and Sandals were in locations that felt sleepy and less lively, while hotels closer to Margaritaville were near louder restaurants. We felt like Skylark was perfectly positioned near other restaurants and stores while not being right next door.

Food: Having Miss Lily’s on-site is a definite plus, and the ability to get room service was a nice surprise. Highly recommend trying the curry goat and oxtail; both were fantastic. It seemed to be one of the busiest restaurants on the beach and for good reason!

Service: The concierge was top notch. We had them schedule several dinners, cars, and activities for us and were able to do it all through WhatsApp which was very convenient. They were always timely and communicative. The restaurant staff was also great, especially the servers for the beach areas. There are a lot of people to get to and keep track of and they did an excellent job.

Amenities: Housekeeping by request is smart and was always easy to set up when needed. We also appreciated all of the snacks and beverages available in the rooms, as well as other things we might need (filtered water bottle, safe, grinder, etc.). The on-site boutique was cute and came in handy when I needed a dinner outfit, and the company they use for transportation, Kenny’s, always had top notch drivers (shoutout to Michael for our airport transfers, he was especially great!). Having the ability to go to their sister property Rockhouse for the day was a great bonus. We took advantage of that and enjoyed a change in scenery as well as the snorkeling and pool that is offered by their sister property. Finally, the beach is well set up with enough chairs and shaded tents/umbrellas for everyone and it never felt like there wasn’t room for all guests. We also enjoyed the complimentary SUPs.

Price: Compared to a lot of hotels in the area we found the price to be very reasonable. We thought the 2nd floor balcony rooms were worth the extra cost as we enjoyed evenings on the balcony and being off the ground for a bit more privacy.

All in all, this place has a great vibe and is a really cute property with a lot to offer. Definitely recommend booking!

Our family of four had a very nice vacation at Skylark. The staff were friendly and the rooms were nice. The location is perfect as you can walk back and forth on the beach and have access to many restaurants and shops. We also walked on the main street to reach local restaurants in the evenings and there's a nice convenience store across the street. We asked about a swimming pool and the front desk did say that they were planning for one. They are also looking to add another floor of rooms.

Hands down one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. Very basic in terms of amenities - they still use actual keys to enter the room, there is no pool and only one restaurant. Insert the old adage here - if you do one thing do it the best. And that they do. Rooms are very clean , minimal and the bed was very comfortable. The restaurant was excellent serving up great Jamaican dishes and who needs a pool when you have the pristine powdery sands and turquoise water of seven mile beach? One option to keep in mind if you’re still wanting a pool is that there is a shuttle to their sister property which does have a pool. I now know where I’ll be staying whenever I visit Negril. And did I mention the price. Very easy on the pocket, so no excuse not to check it out.

I stayed at this hotel with a group of family and friends. We stayed two nights and I must say that we didn't want to leave. It was like a home away from home. The rooms were well kept and comfortable, the staff were professional and they treated you like a actual visitor despite the fact that we were locals. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I will definitely visit again.
