Relax Resort is known as "Montego Bay Best Kept Secret" it is the right choice for visitors who are searching for a combination of charm, peace and quietness, and a convenient place for both pleasure and business trips. It is a small, comfortable hotel, situated in Montego Bay. The Relax Resort managers and staff offer an attentive, personalized service and are always available to offer any help to their guests. The hotel is arranged on three floors, without a lift. On the ground floor we have rooms suited for single and families, there is a comfortable open bar where you can sit and drink, eat or just relax while taking in the view. In each room there is also a splendid private balcony where you can get the view of the airport tower, ocean and strip, and where you can also relax and emerge yourself from morning on wards in the atmosphere of our botanical garden settings. The rooms are arranged on first, second and third floors with categories ranging from superior, studio, 1 & 2 bedroom apartments. All rooms are with free breakfast and is served in the restaurant or open bar area on the ground floor,other meals are provided at the restaurant and also outside on our little patio at your convenience. The hotel provides free Wi-Fi service on the property and free beach access and transportation to the hip strip where Montego Bay famous beach the Doctors Cave is located.

Just got back from the Relax Resort, It was prime time (Christmas week) and we booked last minute so we did not have a lot of choices where we could stay.
The resort was clean, the staff polite and accomodating and it was a relaxing time for our family.
Pros: Polite staff and clean but basic facilities.
Cons: Shuttles only goes to the beach and the airport at 10:00am, 2:00pm and 5:00pm (3 mins to airport and 5 mins to Beach), once they forgot to pick us up but did credit the cab fare back to our bill.
Lots of dogs in homes nearby so a lot of barking and howling.
Have to cab it everywhere. It was cheaper to flag a cab from the main street as the cost from the hotel was very steep.
Next time I will stay across from the Doctor's cave beach as it is a lot more convinent. The beach costs $5.00 per day to use but extremely clean.
The resort was clean, the staff polite and accomodating and it was a relaxing time for our family.

So I was curious after reading the reviews about this place because they seemed to be either really good or really bad, but the price was reasonable so I figured I'd try it. Let me clarify: this place was AMAZING! I stayed there for a couple of nights, and the place is like paradise. Extremely beautiful and picturesque. I actually spoke to the owner on my last day there and mentioned my initial confusion when making the reservation. She explained what happened. Apparently she planned to retired a couple of years ago, so she began renting out her property to another company with the eventual understanding that they'd buy her out after the trial period. Anyway, it came to her attention that they let the place go into disrepair and the quality of service plummeted (as reflected by some of the poor reviews on here). So she took back control as soon as the contract was up so she could reverse the damage (this just happened relatively recently). Anyway, my stay was spectacular. The rooms are nice, clean, and have wifi. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. When I first arrived, one of the employees brought me a complementary drink without asking while the front desk retrieved my room key. One young man named Shawayne was particularly helpful (made great drinks, gave suggestions about places to visit during my stay, and just generally tried to make guests' stay more enjoyable). The hotel even has a complementary shuttle that goes to the airport, the beach and the local hub of tourist shops (and it's located about 5-10min from both). They also have a pool that is nice. The ambiance is also breathtaking because of all the flowers and foliage. There was a mix of young groups, couples, and families, so it doesn't seem like a place focused on one demographic (I'm young and was there with a friend). In short, great time and definitely a great deal for the price.

it was a lovely stay, the room was nicely furnished with good decor.
The facilities were adequate, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The chauffeuring service was very helpful and the driver was friendly with lots of advice. Its a nice place nestled away from the busy congested main area of Montego Bay and is on a hill so there was a cool refreshing breeze, and the views towards the sea were fantastic!

I don't give negative reviews unless I feel very strongly about my experience. This resort is to be avoided. We were two adults with two children (6 & 8 years old). Our room cost us about $200 a day. The furnishings were of flea market quality with wobbly legs and horribly damaged finishes. The walls were dingey white and the bed spread appeared dirty and looked like it should smell (but the beds were comfortable).
The corners of the rooms had collected sand and dirt. The view from our balcony was nice. It overlooked the pool (beautiful) and the bar. The kids really enjoyed watching the planes coming and going from the airport. about a mile away.
The front desk was very friendly but when we wanted a taxi they sent for the resort bus. That would have been OK but the driver would listen to a sex advice talk show on the radio. It was so graphic that we had to ask him to turn it off because our kids started to ask too many questions. For our next outing we called a taxi for ourselves and the resort bus driver got pissed off.
We were planning to stay there for two nights but we left for home a day early because of the bad experience at Relax Resort.
I'm not too fussy where I stay. I have been around the world. I backpacked through europe and lived in Korea (civilian) and Mexico for years. I have stayed in worse places but when I have my wife and children along I expect something pleasant. Relax Resort was not as advertised.

This hotel is a bad choice for three reasons:
1. Relax Resort is located several miles from the city center and beaches. This means that you will have a choice of walking (45 min. along a busy highway), taking a cab (ten bucks), or taking the hotel shuttle.
2. The hotel shuttle should have been a selling point of this hotel. However, the shuttle was never on time leaving the hotel (we had to round up someone every time we wanted to leave) and never came to pick us up to go home. We waited at the beach over thirty minutes on two occasions and finally gave up to take a taxi.
3. We politely complained to the management about the promised "free shuttle" and how we were forced to spend extra money to take a taxi back every time ... and here is the most bizarre part: The management turned it around and blamed us for missing the taxi by either lieing about the times, saying the taxi was there the whole time, or some other twist of "facts." The manager (the self-proclaimed, "Mrs. Brooks") was EXTREMELY rude when I complained about this and stated, "I will not give you a nickel back ... not one nickel," and then proceeded to rant and rave for around ten minutes.
Overall, there are much better hotels for the same price right on the beach. Do not waste your money here.

I loved Jamaica. I won't rate the resort, I will just tell you about it. I enjoyed staying there for the week. I enjoyed just getting to know people on the island. From Negril to Ochee(Ochos Rios). We drove all over the west side of the island keeping to the coast. The staff are nice, the rooms are more than adequate. There is a 10' x 20' pool.
The gardening is neat for Jamaica. There is oleander, ackee, and othe local trees there. A small gym excercise room 12' x 12'. The rooms are well kept, there is a cable/sat TV in the room a separate sitting room in the larger rooms, a kitchen or a kitchenette. There is a bar, but I don't drink. I suggest you go as a family and enjoy. Know your capabilities, if you are there for vacation take a taxi, if you are there to meet local people and can take care of yourself and tell people off if they bother you walk. The hotel is a 2 minute drive from the airport a porter will charge a customary 8-10$ for a trip. You can also go grocery shopping in this trip. Ask to go to the grocer, a store the size of a convenince store. KFC, Burger king are in downtown MObay.
You can eat at the hotel but food abounds for free on a tropical island, ackee, breadfruit, saltfish, coconuts can be found easily. I am an outdoors person that is somewhat burly. Jamaicans are friendly but there is high unemployment and a disparity in justice in the country so travel at your own risk. I had little or no trouble traveling. Just have fun.

The rooms were large and clean, the staff were generally good particularly at reception and the cleaners. Not a lot to do in Montego Bay in general, especially as weather was dull when we went.
Not a great place for female travellers, as could be intimidating, more than common sense needed when wandering about as our particular guide turned out to be quite dangerous.

Worked in Jamaica and stayed at Relax Resort for 6 months in 2006 – okay. Came back six months later – everything’s wrong! Woke up one morning and my balcony door was open! Someone had been in my bedroom when I was sleeping stealing my purse out of the pocket of my trousers… Got treated disrespectfully by owner who didn’t take me serious and told me it was my own fault!!! I had locked all possible locks and double-checked before I went to bed, and he claims it’s my fault! Both before and after my break-in several of my co-workers also experienced theft. Lab top, cameras, cash, aftershave, Ipod and latest a lot of money from a safety box! Still the owner takes no responsibility, why we’re all moving out today, so we again can feel safe at nights somewhere else in town…
The staff at Relax is very nice and polite but unfortunately that is not important when the safety no good…
Anyway, love Jamaica! You should go if you get the chance…

As I work in Bontego Bay my first thought was that this place was a nice place, well situated, and close to everything. But after a couple of weeks stay I realized that it was not a dream come to. The staff was inpolite and it seems like the word "service" does not exist in their vocabulary.
During my stay we have had to robberies. One where an ipod was stolen, and a more uncomftable one were someone was their in the night. The last one the theif came in the noght while I was seeping found my keys to the safty box and stole 45000JM$. This can offcourse only be a staff member, as the door was locked, and therefor the theif must have had a key himself.
The owner is very arrogant and does not take charge in any way, but just tries to blame yourself for beeing so stupid for not sleeping with my keys on my body.
Please if you visit Jamaica do never stay at this resort. The service is terrible and you will be robbed

I was prompted to write my review after reading some of the negative reviews posted. I must remind some of these quest that this is a small hotel (a bed and breakfast), that is priced for us vistors who cannot afford these expensive 5 stars hotel. I stayed at the hotel at the middle of the winter tourist season and the price I paid was much less than most of the hotels in Montego Bay area. I will state that the room I stayed in was very clean and large enough to accommodate two people. The furniture was modern and or 5 star but was however in reasonable state. I grounds especially beautiful and relaxing. The resort overlooked the main international airport but was not close to be affected by the noise. I found the surrounding quiet and safe. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing and affordable hotel, this the place. I found the staff polite, respectful and helpful, the staff includes the receptionist, room service staff, the restaurant staff and the owner/ manager( the wife). The breakfast meals and dinner (optional) was good. The owner/ manager( the wife) was always available for questions and solution to any problem, for example I wanted a room with a better view. After speaking to the owner/ manager
( wife), I was moved at no additional cost. Before leaving unsatisfied and posting a negative comment, try voicing your complaint to the owner/ manager. That is the beauty of a small hotel, your complaints can be resolved at the highest level quickly.
