Melia Las Antillas delights guests with its spacious rooms and entertainment options that contribute to a welcoming atmosphere, although some suggest the rooms could benefit from modernization. The hotel's cleanliness earns high marks, with special commendation for the well-maintained areas. While the amenities such as beautiful beaches and dining variety are appreciated, calls for upgrades are echoed by guests. Despite its prime beachfront location, some guests feel the hotel doesn't offer good value, noting deficiencies in amenities and service expectations. However, the hotel's staff is often celebrated for their friendly and attentive approach.

This hotel is good for the price pd. The hotel is showing its age, requires updating, especially the btrm . Upon our early arrival, they gave us a room to change into our swim wear, or you chose to pay an additional fee to get into your room early. our room was cleaned, fridge restocked daily. It has a small buffet, so do not go to all the food stations in the first couple of nights. Buffet opened a 7:30 and the dinner buffet opened at 6:30. if you had an early excursion or flight home, you had to get a picknic lunch basket. they have a barbique section just outside of the buffet, that was great. They had salad. fruit, lunch meat bar and dessert bar. In the morning, be there at 7:30 so you can get a hot coffee, after that they keep the coffee in carafes and are cold by 8. The lobby bar has really hot coffee and tea. We brought some small peanut butter and jams with us. Food was seasoned ok, but if you like salt or pepper bring some of the little restaurant packages with you, shakers on table but either empty or salt is hard because of humidity. The resturant at the pool serves great food and the BEST Calamari I have had. Restrooms are kept clean. They had a lunch barbeque just before you went to the beach one day that was Awsome, but only the one day. Yes, they need to Clean or remove the lagoon as it smells bad. Pool was clean and cold , like swiming here in Ontario. LOL . ,All the staff where friendly.

Dear guest, We greatly appreciate the time you spent to review your recent experience in our hotel, at Meliá Las Antillas we always strive to exceed guests' expectations and your comments will help our teams reaching that goal. We will take your comments into consideration to continue improving our services. Regarding the smell of the lagoon you mention, it´s not for bad cleaning, but for the nature of the water, sea water with strong concentration of suffer. Kind Regards. This is a smaller resort witch in my opinion is better, we do not like big concrete hotel style resorts. For the most part we did enjoyed our stay at this resort, staff is very nice including front desk and restaurants specially the buffet , beach bar and beach BBQ area, Colon, Jorge Luis, Yoniesly at the beach bar are awesome, friendly and will make sure you will have your favorite drink all the time (pending they have all the supply's ). Norberto at the BBQ pit - that guy is another story to tell , supper friendly and will make you the best burger you will have in the whole CUBA ........ we loved this guy and try to stop by every day at lunch time for a BBQ burger with an awesome smile from Norberto, he does put his hart in to it. Make sure you tip those guys they are appreciate all the tips. If you want to help bring some stuff for the hotel staff and locals if you wonder in to Varadero, we did and everyone appreciate it very much. Our room maid was outstanding and try her best to make our room special with all the creative creatures made of of towels.
Food was decent for Cuba, best from our 3 trips to Cuba and we where always able to find something tasty at the buffet. Restaurants food was good.
The only bad thing I will have to say are the bathrooms they are in need of renovation, they need to be renovated asap.
Pool nice and warm, beach and ocean is one of the nicest we have seen,
3 days at the beach and enjoyed it every moment of it.
Will we go back to Melia Las Antillas probably yes.

Our 2nd visit..stayed again on 5th floor, OceanView Room. Very remarkedly, the concierge ladies remembered us, and provided again, friendly, efficient service. Their genuine graciousness added immensely to our vacation. Thank you Elizabeth and Naydelis.

All public areas in the resort are super clean, including the toilet areas ....which were never out of toilet paper nor soap. The buffet area was also noticeably cleaner than our previous visit, with staff standing-by to immediately clean up any drips or spills. Floors, tables, chairs were almost always ready for guests and it was a pleasure to be served by the staff waiting on the terrace tables. Thank you for your kindnesses to us.

A major feature of this resort is the lobby terrace entertainment with quality musicians and singers. the perfect place for a pre-dinner drink or some post dinner fun.

The Christmas Eve and Day music was spectacular, as was the special dinners.

The best way to know if this is a good place to visit, is to ask .... would we return? The answer is YES.

For an extensive review, look for the review by Graham C (Toronto), December 19. We agree with his every word.

This is a nice resort, the grounds are well kept, the staff is absolutely amazing. Many 5 star resorts can learn from the staff here since they all seem to be well educated on how to care for their guests. The A La Carte food restaurants were great and enjoyed the food very much.
Everything is central and easily accessible. The beach of course is fantastic and well kept. Loved that a staff member gets you a lounge chair and sets you up at the beach.
On the down side, if you can get past the sulphuric smell that surrounds the pool area you will usually find a good spot to lounge at the pool. We opted for a junior supersaver room and should not have. This room type offers no coffee in the room, A refrigerator with 1 beer only, I had to share with my wife. lol . Room showed many signs of being run down and dated, old style keyed safe that did not work.
We loved the food at the buffet, very tasty but also repetitive, we would have enjoyed a different theme occasionally at the buffet but all in all it was very good.
I would rate the hotel no more than a 3 star due to it's overall worn down appearance but 5 star for the service and food comparing to other cuban resorts. The hotel offers more pros than cons but need to do something about that odour that surrounds the grounds. Many upgrades are in need.
I should mention that the pool bathroom is very close to the the pool and easily accessible if you know what I mean.
Also very clean...to me is everything.

We stayed at Melia Las Antillas Dec. 19th to 26th, 2021, and upgraded to an ocean-view suite on the fifth floor, with concierge service. This upgrade is totally worth the extra cost. You get a lovely view, late check-out, towel service, complimentary bottle of rum, cocktail party, extra restaurant reservations, and use of the fifth floor lounge with TV, computer, beverages and snacks. Our two concierges, named Elizabeth and Naidelys, were so helpful; if we had questions, or issues with our suite, they were prompt, professional, and courteous. They even arranged a special dinner for my birthday.

As returning guests, we were welcomed warmly, and felt reassured by all the safety protocols in place. Masks were worn by all staff, and guests were expected to wear masks until seated in restaurants; buffet meals were served only by staff. The resort was kept spotlessly clean, and hand sanitizer stations were easily accessible. Since the resort was not full, it was easy to maintain a safe distance at the pools and beach. We had a wonderful time, just relaxing in the sun, surf, and seafood. As much as we enjoy excursions and the lively town of Varadero, we stayed on the resort this time, to avoid crowds. Most guests were pleasant and mindful of mask wearing and personal space; with the exception of some selfish idiots, who constantly had to be reminded by both staff and other guests. A number of Russian visitors in particular, appeared to enjoy causing deliberately rude, obnoxious, ignorant, disruptive and unsafe behaviour towards others. Apparently, this has become a problem at a number of Varadero resorts, caused by Russian tourists. But despite the childish bad behaviour of a few, we were able to meet some great people, and appreciate all the hard work and consideration shown to us by the staff, to ensure a nice vacation. Our PCR tests were conducted at the resort, making the trip home go smoothly upon our return to Canada.
I'll even give a shout-out to Sunwing, who did a good job ensuring Covid safety, with cheerful flight attendants. Some may think we were crazy to risk travel during this time; but we were both vaccinated, boosted, and took sensible precautions. The week away felt like freedom, and refreshed us to deal with the coming months of winter restrictions.

Third time around
We went back December 2019. We asked for the same room we were at our first trip there. The room was busy but they gave us a room close by.
The food at the buffet is good but on the cool side. There is always the fish, bbq and pasta stations for warmer food. The lobby showed improvement since last year. Service, quality and quantity wise. Both times they did not have any “international brands”
Inelsy, our favorite waitress at the Don Peperone at lunch time always smiling and funny and Pedro at night made sure we had all we wanted. Good service from Iamerky at the El Conuco at lunch. That restaurant needs to change it’s menu.... lots of the items were not available.
The hotel was clean overall problems with the washrooms, mostly at the buffet and lobby bathrooms.
Lots of chairs on the beach and there was someone to bring our chairs where we wanted them.
Daylis and front desk staff at reception was helpful. The food manager was everywhere supervising day and evenings.
We will be back!

I had the pleasure of doing a mother/daughter trip the week of March 10-17th at the Melia las Antillas. I won’t say that there weren’t hiccups on our trip but nothing that wasn’t dealt with swiftly by the resort to what was within their control. Throughout our week we had the joy of getting to know staff as well as guests from both our resort and others. We were surprised to find out things that we were lucky to have at our resort that others didn’t have.

We stayed in a deluxe pool view room on the second floor which was wonderful because we could also hang out on our balcony and still hear what is going on in the pool.

We had some staff that also made our trip that much better. First the beach bar staff, Raúl, Jorge Luis and Colón. These guys always would greet you with a smile and a friendly conversation when on the beach Colón would be working very hard running up and down the beach bringing guest drinks to their chair which was such a luxury to have. I would recommend to bring your own cup as the plastic ones are small and they will even take your cup from your beach chair to fill it for you. Even the time I spent at the pool I would walk to the beach bar to grab my drinks. They seem to run out of things through out the week like there wasn’t any vodka and only sprite for the first few days but there was always something to drink. I also found that if the lobby bar or pool bar didn’t have something they would have it at the beach bar.

Both Nacho, and Leonardo on the entertainment team were wonderful, they were engaging and fun to play a few of the activities with. Generally speaking in the morning they had activities at the beach and by the pool in the afternoon.

Myself, I also had the joy of being able to talk with Roberto Carmona who is the food and beverage Director. He would be in the buffet every day with a smile and some small conversation. Our buffet had fish throughout our week, which seemed to be in short supply at other resorts, the desserts were always wonderful. It was also nice that they had an indoor and outdoor grill they would use both at lunch and dinner for different things. Some foods were very repetitive but there was never a shortage of something to eat. Mind you both my mom and my self aren’t big or picky eaters.

I wouldn’t hesitate to go back here again.

Two weeks of great experience at Melia Las Antillas (March 7 – 21). Stayed in the renovated room #4104 in the main hotel buiding and were more than happy with it.
We spent most of the time we spent at immaculate beach. Beach and ocean here are simply perfect.
Food was pretty good. Even though we heard some complaints from people staying in other hotels, we cannot share the same experience here. The selection was good and we always had a few different options to choose from.
Quality entertainment was provided every night. We especially enjoyed the 21:30 ones (traditional dances, rock band, opera, pool ballet, guests competition, etc).
***All the staff, from the cleaning ladies, staff at all bars, buffet, la carte restaurants, maintenance guys, management, front desk, etc. were very kind and treated us carefully with a lot of attention and the smile. It is much appreciated. Thank you, and we love you guys.
Some areas of the hotel would appreciate an extra touch, fresh paint, and some renovations. The staff is doing its best to keep it clean though.
Recommended tip is in CDN$, USA$, Euros. If you are exchanging any money to Cuban Pesos, be careful; do not exchange big amounts because you cannot exchange it back to Canadians and are stuck with it when leaving the country.
Went on a few trips and felt safe wherever we went. We love Cuba.
If you go to Cuba, please bring some hygiene products, school supplies, clothing, etc to give away. They will be very thankful.
We definitely recommend staying at Melia Las Antillas hotel and will be back, for sure.

We were there from March 24th-31st 2023.

We upgraded to a deluxe room so we could stay in the 3 storey bungalows. The resort is extremely outdated as was the room, bath tub was filthy I requested to change rooms they said nothing was available, so I scrubbed the tub myself I had to scrub so hard the washcloth had holes in it and it still wouldn't come clean. I think this was due to them not having access to proper cleaning supplies? The rest of the room was clean the beds had fresh linens, floors, fridge and toilets were clean. Air worked great in room. Mattress was hard but it depends on people's preference if this would bother u or not. The bungalows were really quiet never heard anyone.
The food - this was our 5th time to Cuba. I actually like Cuban food all the other times except for this time, please note this is definitely not the cooks or resorts fault they had to work with what they had which was extremely limited, it made me so sad. If the resorts are that limited what about the Cuban people. This was the buffet that was repetitive not the a la cartes. They did not have any pizza or speghetti bars however they did have Omelette bar in morning and Fish bar at supper. Limited butter, no orange juice. The lattes we're good. The beach was amazing just beautiful. Pool area was nice and clean. They had a Canadian get together which was a really nice touch. The nightly entertainment was great the Band n Salsa dancers were Fantastic. The Currency-we tipped and bought gifts with US and Canadian currency only. I saved the best for last and that is the amazing people that work at this resort. They worked really hard with what they have, the chef's Kudos to u for trying to make something out of very limited supplies. I'd like to mention Roberto Ramirez he is a very kind person always has a welcoming smile, very professional, cares for his staff. We tried to tip him as he helped us he wanted the tips to go to his staff not him. So we continued to tip the staff. Our trip was very relaxing and we enjoyed ourselves.

This was my third time visiting Varadero and I must say that this resort was fantastic! The beach was wonderful, the pool area was very nice (and I'm not a pool person), the staff were very friendly and hard-working and the grounds were very beautiful. The resort was not busy at all, maybe only at half capacity so it was quiet and very relaxing which was exactly what we were looking for. Usually the food in Cuba is ok, but at this resort, I found it to be very good! Particularly the a la carte restaurants were excellent. Little tip? Don Peperon (the italian a la carte) is open for lunch from 12:30 to 2:30 every day except Sunday. Make sure you try the calzone...amazing! The food by the pool and beach was good too, particularly the burgers, fries and yummy calamari! I loved the swim show at night as well as the entertainment outside the lobby before heading over to the theatre by the pool.

Cons? There were very few. I would say the washrooms in the rooms need a refresh. The lobby area is very nice but also needs a bit of updating/renovating. They ran out of french fries halfway through the week and there was a bit of a wait for our room when we arrived. We arrived at noon but the room was not ready until 5 pm and on our reservation it said it would be ready by 3 pm. Other than that, I would highly recommend this resort, one of the best in Varadero for sure!!!!!

Dear Sara, Thank you very much for sharing this great review of your recent stay at Meliá Las Antillas. We are sincerely happy to know that you enjoyed your stay and you certainly agree that our dedicated staff plays a key role to our guests' overall experience. The entire team works very hard to ensure that we deliver the best standard of service and a warm and memorable experience. Regarding your comments concerning needs of updating/renovating, I can tell you that we are already working on it with rooms, and already did it during 2019 with Reception, Lobby Bar, and Health Bar. We hope to see you again soon! Kind regards. Laurent Labal General Manager Meliá Las Antillas

Is it OK to tip in US bills ?
Answer from Val

Yes, that's the best option $1 USD. (Please ensure that the bill is not damaged in any way because the bank won't take it.) Do not tip with CDN coins because the bank won't take them and they have to run around looking for change and the end of their work shift. If you can at the end of your stay, exchange your big CDN bills for coins to take home. 🤗

Hola, There is no variety to the buffet food, even between lunch and dinner...none! The second room was clean but the first one was full of mould! Run away from this resort!

In the room I was in they were mostly 220. I had one that would take a standard 110 (the tv was plugged into this one). I used it with for my phone charged and had no problems. Hope this helps

why do you have to be passive agressive and start response with "good luck with that"?
