we have been to Fiji at the end of May 2012 for 6 days and only stayed at Safe Landing as we didnt have more time to explore and wanted to enjoy and calm down a bit. This is the reason why we havent taken the opportunity to island-hop, which must be amazing!
Safe Landing is a nice and basic place in a beautiful location but lets go point by point. First of all the trip there is a bit long as it takes around 5-6 hours, which added to the trip by plane from Melbourne was quite exhausting. And we havent realized this when we booked it and thought it would be only and hour or two, which was an interesting surprise as you might imagine. Nacula Island lies right at the end of Yasawa Islands and is probably one of the larger islands there so if you are an explorer and like hiking the hills its a good place, though the pathways often end in the middle of nowhere :)
For us it was paradise as when we arrived there were less guests than staff (there were 6 guests including us) so the beach was empty and we had it all for us alone.
The "hotel" is a basic place as most are in Fiji, but in terms of accommodation all was fine. We hat one of the bungalows and nothing was missing. Having the beach literally at your doorstep and a hammock to lie and read in was awesome. One little bugger we had was a frequent visitor, which was a small mouse crawling out of the sewer system used, which used to go through the trash. The staff planted a cat into the room to catch or scare it away, but then we just plugged the hole from which it came and we havent seen it again. Sleeping there was great and we always were full of energy, though the early breakfast at 8am was a bit of a stretch.
The staff as well as the Australian owners were very friendly, always helpful and there was a lot to do, like learning about the natural medicines form plants they use, peeling a coconut, making wristbands, kayaking, night snorkelling and drinking kava in the evenings as well as some group activities of which we werent that fond of as we wanted to be alone and relax.
The beach was nice esp. when the tide is high as there is enough of a sand patch to swim and mess around. If it is low there is a lot of see weed and its not ideal to swim in, so I wouldnt give the beach more than 3/5. But it was still beautiful and relaxing with no one there.
There is a reef and patches of corals just outside if you swim for a few minutes although its smaller, but the fish are plentiful and much of the coral is in great shape. The only downside is the current since the reef is near the end of the island and the open ocean creates a heavy drag so be careful.
In terms of snorkelling and diving there are many opportunities although we only took snorkelling trips around, looked at the blue lagoon beach etc. Corals in Fiji are in great shape and comparable with the great barrier reef at places. The staff took us through a number of different reefs and we saw a lot of fish, some turtles, squid etc. We later went there by foot (for free) and have spend a nice afternoon at the reefs and had a great walk as well.
There are other trips like the famous Sawa-I-Lau Cave, which was kinda cool and adventurous but also a bit disappointing since the "story" that we were promised on how the cave was created to be told was skipped. The staff there didnt speak much english (almost at all) so when we asked no one knew what to answer and since there were crowds of people waiting in the water to dive under the rock it was kinda rushed and then without any light to explore the cave we just waited till we can swim out finally. I would recommend the trip though, since I think at times its probably better and after all you dont get to swim in a cave in turquoise water every day. We did not do any other trips besides hiking, which i will upload some photos of.
The only real downside for us was the food, which although good was very repetitive and mostly consisted of rice and carrots and some meat, mostly fish that was only served at dinners (not all dinners at that). The breakfast was good though and you could eat as much as you liked (and was made). However my fiancee and I both often found that we were hungry in between the meals. There is cake stand nearby which is open for a few hours every day where you can get homemade cake and tea or coffee which quelled the hunger a bit. Dont know but what I heard from other guests (island-hoppers) there was a lot of food in other resorts on other islands and no meat scarcity.
Perhaps one more thing that we were delighted about, electricity ran only a few hours a day (around 4) so we could really shut down everything and just relax. For some people this might be a bit of a problem. Internet is available but extremely slow and only on the owners staff computer, and for a fee, which is understandable that far away from the main island.
Overall Safe Landing is a great place to go, for a very good price compared to other resorts if (that is if youre not island-hopping). The beach, water and corals were beautiful as was the surrounding nature (rocks, hills). We would definitely recommend it if you're on a budget and would return if there would be a bit more food and a variety of it.

Location The location of this resort is beautiful, from the moment you get off the ferry onto the little boat to take you to the resort you feel like you are in paradise. Amazing blue water and the island is so green.
Room The room is basic (expected for the price compared to other resorts in the Yasawa islands) but clean and spacious. We had a beachfront bure with a lovely balcony overlooking the ocean. The bathroom is basic and there is no hot water (water is still warm enough due to the heat of the day). Electricity is only turned on at night.
Food and drinks Breakfast is included but basic (wheetbix, cornflakes, fruit and sometimes fijian pancakes). Lunch is a bit confusing, there was a different lunch written on the board each day however often no one around to order from meaning you can get stuck without getting lunch. Because of this I would recommend packing snacks from the mainland in case you can't get lunch. We got lunch one of the days and it was a huge yummy plate of spaghetti Bolognese. Dinner was served at 8pm every night (giving you a chance to watch the sunset first) with either 1 or 2 options. The chef is a fantastic cook and the dinner was delicious. The portions for dinner were extremely generous and cheap ($20 fijian each night). There is a little coffee shop (open 3-5:30pm daily) run by a local woman about a 5 minute walk from the resort which has yummy cake for sale ($3 a slice). The bar is almost none existent! They sell fiji gold and bitter (warm because the electricity does not run during the day) and coke, that is all! Definitely take anything you want to drink with you to the island because it was a bit disappointing not being able to have a cocktail with the amazing sunset views.
Water in your room is not drinkable and 1.5L bottles are $6 so take us much water as you can carry with you to avoid having to pay for it.
Activities Blue lagoon snorkeling trip - amazing fish and coral, would definitely recommend. Caves trip - the cave is stunning and interesting to visit Hike - you can take a track across the island to the blue lagoon resort, it takes about an hour to walk and the views are spectacular! Parts of the walk are quite steep and slippery so take good walking shoes.
Getting there We caught the Tavewa Seabus from Lautoka wharf which is $120 per person and take 3h to reach the island. The boat ride was calm and quite enjoyable.
Overall The resort is basic but in a beautiful location. Would recommend to people on a budget who want to spend time in the Yasawa islands.

We were looking for a quiet location away from the hustle and bustle and that is what we got. Staff at Safe Landing were very friendly and helpful and at the end of our 4 night stay we almost felt like family and it was sad to leave. Accommodation is basic but clean and all are beach front. The chef puts on fantastic meals and the after dinner entertainment is a great way for all guests to unwind and mingle. The short stroll to the nearby coffee shop is a must. There is plenty of activities on offer both free or for an additional charge. While there was no real snorkeling from the beachfront, the trip to the Blue Lagoon did not disappoint. Look forward to going back next year!

We have just had Christmas and New Year at Safe Landing eco lodge. This is not a "pamper palace", it is basic, clean accommodation for all pockets, it is directly onto a great beach with easy swimming in shallow water to reefs for snorkeling, it provides great value trips, fishing, reef visits and snorkeling, inter island transport, lessons on language, coconuts, canoeing and so much more. The staff are lovely and helpful. Drinks can be bought cold from the fridge, or filtered water is free. Our bure had a shower and loo and was perfect for our needs. We loved every moment. The breakfast can be a bit monotonous as it was pancakes most days, but there is unlimited coffee, cereal and fruit with most meals. The staff came out to sing us off the Island which brought a lump to our throat. Loved it and would not hesitate to go back.

We were a little concerned with some of reviews we read ahead of time. We were amazed upon arrival at what a fantastic place this is. The location is on the beach with beautiful hues of blue water, white sand beach, palm trees and hammocks. We pretty much had this gorgeous beach to ourselves, it was pure paradise. Our family cabin was comfortable for 4 of us, there are screens on windows so we didn't have any issues with bugs. There is a lock on the door and we felt very safe. The meals were good and they catered to our special diet. Breakfast was included while lunch and dinner cost $20FD per person. You do not order from a menu they just serve a pre-set meal. Our hosts were wonderful as well the other guests at the property. This is not a big fancy resort, but is comfortable and very affordable. It is important to know that there is no electricity during daytime, only at night. There is no air conditioning, but was not an issue with windows open as we had a good breeze. There is no hot water, but no problem since weather is so warm the water temperature was fine. It is a long boat ride to the resort on either the Seabus or Yasawa Flyer but totally worth it. They do offer free use of kayaks, Church Visit on Sunday and there are hiking trails. We did the paid snorkel trip to Blue Lagoon which was nice. We really enjoyed our short visit and hope to go back again. Don't miss out on this hidden gem!

We took Seabus to Nacula Island on a very windy day. It was great to come ashore and be greeted by such friendly people. Our bungalow on the beach had fantasic ocean views and a nice little patio area to sit on. There was a hammock right in front too. The food was good expect fish, rice, and root vegetables. Breakfast was usually pancakes. The natural beauty of the area is just amazing. The other guests at the resort were friendly and we enjoyed conversations with all of them at meals. It was a very relaxing stay and we would go back.

I did not want to write a review but I decided this would be helpful for future guests. We are a family with kids from Canada traveling for the first time to Fiji. This is a 13 hour flight. We booked a 2 weeks stay in late 2022 for travel in early 2023. With a couple of weeks left for our arrival in Fiji they decided to cancel our booking with no explanation or no alternative means of accomodation. It was the worse experience ever, trying to find a budget accommodation in Fiji on short notice. When we asked for an explination or other options they did not care to answer. We were very fortunate to have another property step up and accomodate us on short notice. Thank you

Positives: really nice beach, not too much coral compared to other beaches we had visited. Very relaxed atmosphere. We were able to do a cave swim at a nearby island which was really enjoyable.
Negatives: The staff don't like doing a lot of the activities so they'll try and fob you off in the hope that you'll forget about it, or start the activity and then walk off to do something else for an hour. The food is quite poor quality here but the kitchen staff are friendly and accommodating in terms of allergies. The water only came on for half an hour during the day and there were frequent power outages, so we had to shower in the dark (no windows) and most people went to bed straight after dinner as there was nothing to do but sit in the dark. Just before we were about to leave, one of the staff members beat this dog with a golf club so hard it started to wet itself and was shaking and whimpering. I understand that there are cultural differences in terms of animal welfare, but this was still unacceptable behaviour and quite distressing to watch, particularly as he did it whilst people were finishing their lunch.

My sister and I booked 2 nights at Safe Landing as part of our Bula Combo pass. When we booked they told us all the dorms were full so they upgraded us to a bure for no extra cost. We thought this was good, and that the resort must just be popular. That was until we got picked up by their fiberglass boat and the staff onboard said there was a large group staying (49 + 3 "leaders") and that we were the only other guests at the resort.
So we arrived at what is a small resort (probably suited for about 8-20 at most) to find it overcrowded with noisy, rude 18-25 year old's. We fit into this age group ourselves but they were nothing like us. All they wanted to do was drink, party and talk (loudly) to each other while completely ignoring us. We had to share tables with them at meal time which wasn't very pleasant. Apparently they were a volunteer group but they didn't act like it.
So anyway we were shown to our bure (or rather half of a bure - the other half was a makeshift dorm with 6 noisy members of the group inside). Luckily it was unlocked because they couldn't find the key for it but said they would bring it over. Later when we asked for it they said it had been lost or taken by a previous guest. When we used the shower we found that the drain was blocked. We reported this to management but they did nothing about it.
Meal time was chaotic. My sister and I are gluten intolerant, which wasn't a problem at any of the other resorts we stayed at. But apparently the chief was "pulling his hair out" because he didn't know what to cook for us. We ended up having fried rice for 3 of our first four meals. We were NOT impressed. Our other meal (dinner for the first night) was curry - it was okay, but we had to ask for more as the serving size was too small (I don't think they are used to catering for so many people and they were running short of food). Then in the morning at breakfast they put out one small kettle of boiled water at a time - to serve over 50 people. We felt very uncomfortable during meal time, like we shouldn't have been there - that is how we were treated and I wish we weren't!
We went to bed before the first night's activities because we felt so out of place. We didn't get much sleep though as the staff kindly placed us in the room closest to the bar. The group were up partying, screaming and swearing at the bar til 1:30am. Then the management sent them down to the beach. So they all came down past our bure and yelled, drank and swore for hours, within metres of us (our bure was beachfront). If fact some people were still outside when the sun rose at 6:30am!
But luckily the group left after lunch so we had a much better second night. Seven regular backpackers arrived and it was quite a nice group. We went snorkeling with one girl but there was nothing much to see, especially inside the safe area. The management told us one of us had to be in a kayak if we went outside of the buoys or a boat could hit us - so much for safe landing! The coral was mostly dead or broken anyway and the water was dirty. I know the management can't do much about this but it didn't really make us any happier with the place. The we got out on the rocks to walk back in and got attacked by sand flies - not very pleasant!
That nights activities were okay - the staff (two men) did two religious dances, then we all had to sing our national anthems and play "potato race" which was a bit of fun. The Fijian staff were all nice but the Australian managers were always yelling orders at the staff. It didn't create a very nice atmosphere.
The next morning when we went to breakfast the chef gave us a packed of breakfast crackers (dry biscuits) and asked if we could just eat them as he hadn't cooked us anything. Of coarse we couldn't as their main ingredient was flour (gluten), so he cooked us some potatoes for us after everyone else had already finished breakfast and served them to us with cold baked beans. At least he tried.
That morning we also made some coconut bracelets (which are a lot more effort-ful than you'd imagine) but it at least made our time pass before we could go to a much nicer resort that afternoon. It was nice of the man to show us and it was interesting I guess.
If we had stayed at Safe Landing when there was no group there it would have been bearable at least. So if you plan to stay, just make sure you ask management if there is a group already booked in, because you may not find out otherwise. Very unprofessional!

Safe Landing had just re opened after 2 years of being closed when we visited. Upon arrival it was evident that the staff where stilling their feet as there where a few teething problems. For example, the card machine being stuck on the main land. Despite advertising that card payments where available, if your traveling the Yasawa’s you know how frustrating this can be without cash.
The Rooms: The bungalows haven’t been touched for years. They were filthy and pretty disgusting. Not even the slightest attempt to freshen the place up for its re opening.
Bed sheets had blood stains on them, no hot water and the place was overall in terrible condition.
Also there was no power during the day, and it generally switched off early morning.
Overall the Accomadation is a real shame as this place has some amazing potential.
Hospitality: The one thing that made our stay memorable was the staff. They were absolutely amazing. Big smiles all round and nothing seemed to much of a problem if you had and questions or needed anything. Again they are still finding their feet, but they remember your name and always try to help.
The Breakfast: Okay, the breakfast isn’t great. Unfortunately they seem to have a ZERO BUDGET on brekkie. I’m sure the bosses are to blame for this.
Guests where literally having to battle with each other to get a decent size breakfast. Unfortunately we left most mornings hungry as there simply wasn’t enough food unless you love to just eat sliced bread.
However some mornings they really tried to put in the effort despite the food Rationing.
I can’t comment on the lunches but the evening meals were pretty damm good at $20!
On a Wednesday night the staff hosted a Lovo Oven ( sorry if I’m wrong with the name) we had fresh fish, beef, pork, chicken and heaps of yummy fruit, Salad and veg. It was a fantastic evening.
Activities: From here you can access blue lagoon resort, around one hours hike away.
The resort also offers many other activities, such as visiting the caves / snorkelling trips etc.
Overall, for the price we paid I’d stay here again just because of the lovely staff!

Book the yasawa flier. It departs denarau marina daily. Then once you are booked confirm with the hotel what day you arrive. They will arrange the meet the flyer ferry and boat you to the resort.
There are more places to choose from in the Nacula Island area.
