We have stayed at Ocean Mist Cottages several times over the last couple of years. Every time we come here, we have a wonderful experience. The cottages are spotless, the kitchen is well stocked with dishes, glasses, cutlery, etc., the beds are really comfortable, and the propane fireplace stove adds that romantic ambience.

The owners are a beautiful couple. You can tell they take pride in what they do. The cottages and surrounding area are well maintained.

If we could give more stars, we would! We’ll definitely be back again and again. This place is a hidden gem!

We just spent the last two days in Lockeport at Ocean Mist. The cottages are being operated by new owners, who are very friendly and try to ensure their guests are looked after. We had a storm while there, and they were quick to shovel our door steps and plough the driveway. The cottages are nicely decorated inside and well maintained.

If you think beach side cottage is something to enjoy only in the summer, you are wrong. The beach is still very nice in February for walking, especially if you have a dog like we did. They have one, maybe two cottages that are animal friendly yet still extremely clean.

I would highly recommend this place for families and couples. The location is on the edge of a very friendly town. Easy to walk to the Town Market for supplies.

My partner and I have stayed at Ocean Mist 5 times now... fell in love with it on our first short stay many years ago when Bill Crosby first took over. Since then we have brought family, in-laws and friends and stayed longer each time. The cottages, the beach, the town of Lockeport and surrounding area are great. There is lots to see and do and enough space and quiet to just sit back and relax if you want. Bill is a great host and goes out of his way to make you feel at home. We have visited in June and fall with our favourite time being September/October but I'm sure you'd be happy there any time of year....

My family and I spend the weekend in Lockport. While spending time on the beach we noticed ocean mist cottages. One morning during our stay in Lockport My father suggested he would take my youngest daughter (who is 3 months old) for a walk in her stroller, while I was tending to my oldest daughter. While he was walking he decided he would walk by ocean mist cottages to check them out as we were interested in staying there during our next trip to Lockport. (Planning to stay a distance away from anyone of course due to covid) While walking towards/down the road the cottages are on he was approached by a man who represented ocean mist. This man rudely indicated that he was on private property. My father replied by saying he was only out for a walk, as he was thrown off guard by the attitude and tone used by this employee when he was merely looking into the possibility of inquiring about renting a cottage himself. Needless to say costumer service means a lot in my books and factors in to how great or poor a stay could be. Although these cottages are nice, I feel this conversation could have been approached completely different while implying the same thing.

We stayed at this cottage this past winter and did not enjoy our stay. Found the beds to be quite old and uncomfortable and very pricey for what you get. Kitchen had a lot of out dated utensils and cook wear, and also the owners seem to watch all if your activity and make it very hard to enjoy your vacation. I would not recommend this place if you are a few friends looking to have fun. If you are a older couple they might not bother you as much, but it is very expensive and if you want to have a good time look at other places near by, i seen many cottages in the area and they are all better priced

Response from Carterslight, Owner at Ocean Mist Cottages

This is the fifth review in a series written by members of a group of friends who visited our accommodations in mid-March. First of all, let me say that it is disappointing that you did not enjoy your stay with us and felt the need to write so many negative reviews. Our goal is to do everything to ensure that your stay is a positive experience. Although the easiest way to have avoided this issue would have been to turn a blind eye to what was going on, “We have never allowed nor will we ever allow one group of visitors to adversely effect another paying guest! “ And as such, we have a number of cottage policies that must be adhered to by all visitors. We are not a party spot and the young woman who reserved the cottages was fully aware of that. We are not a campground and do not allow tents or travel trailers on site. We do not have any smoking units. We have maximum occupancy limits. The group in question erected a tent in the front yard and lit large pieces of old power poles on fire on a very windy night. They smoked in the cottage and left burn marks in our living room carpet as well as the cushion floor in our kitchen and dining area. We received comments from residents that they drove around town with one member of the group riding on top of a 4 x 4 vehicle. And finally, they invited additional people who put them over our occupancy limits. They were asked to leave but refused, and this is when the problems arose. We could have very easily just ignored all of this but it may have been at the expense of other visitors. We chose not to. Unfortunately, it has resulted in a series of poor reviews which have brought down our rating. We can live with that! We know that those of you who utilize these sites prior to booking will appreciate our efforts to maintain a quiet family oriented business. This response will probably elicit additional reviews from this group. I hope those of you who have taken the time to read this will scan through the other reviews and still consider visiting our area.

I stayed at Oceanmist Cottages in March 08 to take advantage of the off season rate. I was assigned the Lobster Pot Cottage.
These cottages are directly on beautiful Crescent Beach so location is everything here. The cottages are right next to one another on a small property so if you are looking for privacy this wouldn't be your spot. What you do have is open water access just feet from your front deck which is wonderful.
The cottage itself was quite nice, very comfortable beds in both bedrooms, a well equiped kitchen, a large picture window overlooking the sea as well as a sliding glass door to the front deck with chairs, bbq etc. The decor was a bit boring and not very homey feeling, lack of pictures on the wall, ornaments and that sort of thing. I have been to much nicer cottages on the Lighthouse Route but it was clean and location can't be beat if you love having one of Nova Scotia's finest beaches right at your doorstep. The sound of the waves was very peaceful and a storm kicked up my last day and that was something else, talk about an angry sea, I loved it !
So much beauty nearby. The town of Lockport is very quaint and the cottages are right in town so you can walk everywhere and keep the car in the driveway.
A short tour outside the town limits is recommeded "
West Head
Louis Head Beach, beautiful wide expence of white sand, private and isolated. I saw one lone fisherman in his hip boots about 20 feet offshore and that was it, huge and rustically beautiful place.
Osborne Harbour
Pleasant Point where you will have the best view of Carter's Light.
Little Harbour
In town check out The Locke Family Heritage Seascape just to the left of the cottages, very historical area.
Mostly this accomodation is for beach orientated travellers, great for familes or a romantic getaway. Personally I prefer a more remote type of cottage for me, some personal space outside to bbq or sit at the picnic table without streams of people passing by as the walkway to the beach is directly in front of the cottages but I do see the appeal to many who frequent this accomodation.
I read the guestbook within my cottage and this place has many repeat visitors year after year.
Would I go back, sure I would but for the location and beach as opposed to the cottages themselves.

What a great place to stay. The cottages are very clean and all the comforts of home. I loved the propane stove as it was a stormy cool weekend. Don't let the weather stop you from going as the scenery is amazing during the stormy weather. The cottages are located directly on the most beautiful beach. The town of Lockeport is a beautiful town and you can park your car and walk to everything in town. We will most certainly go back to Lockeport and Oceanmist Cottages for a visit

There are 6 cottages to rent. We stayed in the Lobster Pot Cottage. There were two good sized bedrooms, a full bath, an open plan kitchen and living room. The bed was comfortable as was the living room couch, easy chair and wooden rocker. A gas fireplace gave us heat on cool mornings. The kitchen was well eqipped but did not have a dishwasher.
The whole front of the cottage boasted a covered deck which had a BBQ for our use. The deck also had chairs and side tables. The small front yard had a picnic table and a firepit. Wood was available at no charge.
Our host Bill, the owner was very friendly and accommodating gentleman offering advice on what to see and where to eat and shop for groceries. As we were staying a week, he let us do a load of laundry at no charge. We liked the fact that he was there just about all day so if a problem had come up, we could report it right away. Our stay was porblem free.
The cottages face the water on Crescent Beach which is only steps away over the protective dunes. We walked the beach at low tide collecting shells and watching all the birds.
The town of Lockeport is not large so you can walk to the restaurants, liquor store and grocery store. People we passed in the streets were friendly and usually gave us a smile and a nice 'hello'.

This is the real deal: spectacular ocean setting, clean and comfy cottages, friendly and caring staff. The unusual setting of Ocean Mist is part of what makes it so special. At the back of the cottages lies the beautiful Crescent Beach, the comforting sound of the waves and the fresh sea breezes; while the front of the property is steps away from the town’s market, pharmacy, liquor store, post office, hardware store and very cool playground. Everything you need is here.

We are repeat guests at Ocean Mist and we love it more each time we visit. We love our walks on the beach, uncluttered by tourist traps and gimmicks—just sun and sand and wind and sky, shimmering water and beauty all around us. The beach is never crowded. We walk the beach several times a day, looking for sand dollars, watching the swallows glide and listening to the waves. We wade in at the water’s edge. We lie in the sun. We sleep and we gradually slow down. This place wraps you in its arms and rocks you to sleep. And when you wake up, you look better, you feel better, you are better.

Ocean Mist is off the beaten track and well worth the detour from the highway. It is situated in a hardworking fishing community, and it has things the big flashy places will never have: a feeling of safety and comfort, and the pleasure of being welcomed by kind and honest people. The beauty and power of the ocean is always present here, and it can heal you, if you let it. For my money, Ocean Mist is the perfect place for relaxation and reflection in a safe and beautiful setting.

About 6 years ago was my first review for Ocean Mist and it is still the go-to spot for really getting away from it all and relaxing in peace and quiet. Whether taking a jog around town (where everyone is pleasant and always has a "hello" for you) or watching a storm roll in with spectacular lighting displays over the Atlantic, it is a place where family can gather, reconnect, and enjoy the simple pleasure of walking along the white sand beach as waves roll in. The cottages are clean, well-equipped, and the grill on the back deck is always in use a dinner time - nothing beats the local fare cooked on it accompanied by a bottle of Jost wine or a fresh growler of Hunky Dory from Boxing Rock brewery (located in nearby Shelburne). Walking out to the West Head from the cottages is a beautiful wandering and the view from the West Head (perfect for picnics and nature photography!) helps keep life in perspective. The hosts, Bill and Sue, are terrific and can always make a great recommendation to help enjoy what the wonderful Lockeport area has to offer. The farmer's market on Friday afternoons is not to be missed either! As a side note, I was incredibly surprised to read the review in the "terrible" ranking someone offered...however, I was very glad to see the owner's response to it and now see it was simply a retaliatory review. So much of the joy to being able to stay on the ocean in a locale such as this is the solace and peace it offers. This is a family-oriented vacation spot to enjoy nature in a lovely, quaint fishing town and I am so glad that Bill strives to maintain that for all his guests - that is what keeps us coming back!!
