The El Sueno Tropical was originally built in 2001 and has been newly renovated in 2022. El Sueno Tropical is a small 16 rooms resort, set in 3 acres of tropical gardens to enjoy, this property is all about experiencing what a truly serene tropical vacation is all about! There are 4 buildings that house 4 units per building. There are 8 standard rooms, 2 deluxe rooms, 2 deluxe studio units and 4 two bedroom Superior units. There is a freeform Italian tiled pool with a small wading pool. while offering El Sueno Tropical Bar and Restaurant. We have a full-service restaurant, pool, and a bar with a dance floor that provides live entertainment. El Sueno Tropical also has on-site front desk service for booking your daily tours, airport shuttles and more... El Sueno Tropical is an oasis of peace and tranquility for travelers who are looking for temporary lodging located along the beautiful Guanacaste Peninsula, specific tourist attraction Playa Carrillo rated Costa Rica top 3 beaches and Surf town Playa Samara. El Sueno Tropical is a perfect place to hang out and chill while taking time to vibe in a cool Tropical environment, we want people to wash away their stresses, lay back and chill on a hammock and take in the sound of tropical birds. Often McCawks will stop in and say hello to the folks staying. El Sueno Tropical is a perfect place to just slow down for a bit, wash away your stresses and really unwind, Especially After a day of enjoying activities like surfing, ocean kayaking, snorkeling or maybe a boat tour, horseback riding, zip lining. The town of Carrillo offer some wonderful restaurants, a local soda and grocery store and Playa Carrillo is 3 klms away beautiful beach to walk,run or sit and take it all in! Surf town Playa samara is only 10 klms away from the your stay.
Our recent stay at El Sueno Tropical was fantastic. The location is great, it is quiet and yet close enough to 3 beaches in the area. There is a store near by and lots of activities to do. We had the superior double room, which was perfect for a family with 2 children (2 bedrooms with one queen and 2 twins and a living area with couch and well equipped kitchenette including a large fridge) Beds were very comfortable and rooms were bright, nice and clean (recently renovated). The grounds are beautiful and the pool is really nice, an area where you definitely want to hang out and relax. The restaurant offers great food and the pizza is a must try ;) The bar has a nice atmoshere where you can mingle with other guests. We felt very welcome and at home. The owners Erin and Drew were exceptional hosts. They made sure every guest is happy and were very helpful with booking activities in the area and beyond. We already miss this place and are surely coming back!

This spot is everything you need and more. It's gorgeous,clean and a friendly place to stay. You won't be disappointed. Erin is super friendly and will ensure your stay is perfecto✔. I fell in love as we stopped to have a bite to eat and so will you... 1. Beach in play Carillo is 7 -10 min drive from location 2. Has a pool and lounge chairs for chillin. 3. The best part your rooms are like studios with there own private front deck / lounge area. 4. Do you need a car? Buses do pass the location not necessary but if you want to explore on your own clock rent one. 5. The food is very good and well priced. The chef is amazing. 6. Cost is comparable so book now don't waste your time shopping around to get left out. 4. Try the Crispy onion rings they are SLAMMIN 5.You will love it... PURA VIDA

Great little spot that is tucked away from the more crowded areas of Carrillo and Samara, but close enough to the beaches and landmarks you may want to visit. It was well maintained when we were there, but there are some insects around, because of the location. Pool, restaurant, and bar area were very nice. Howler monkeys came up very close. Had a very good typical breakfast! Ask Drew for the special hot pepper juice jar.

If we were able to, we would rate it higher than five stars for rooms, service, and of course, location. First night in Costa Rica, and after a full day of traveling, how sweet to be able to stay in this special little paradise. Erin was above and beyond any host we could imagine. She is super friendly, so helpful, made sure we had absolutely everything we needed. We couldn’t have asked for more. The place is pristine, well-kept, clean and beautiful. This is their first season open since complete renovation, and Erin and Drew have done an incredible job. I’m going to tell everyone I know about this little spot.

Friendly staff. Went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Erin and Drew were absolutely fantastic host.The wildlife around the property was amazing ,from Monkeys, parrots, humming birds and iguanas. The pool was perfect.

Very welcoming and friendly hotel Our bedroom was spotless, shower was good and travel to the beach by car very easy. Gardens were pretty and we were visited at the pool by howlers and several species of birds. We arrived worn out after a long drive and felt at home immediately

Best hostes ever.... A very nice place whit nice staff who made our stay a memory for ever. It is a couple of km to the beach but here you have a clean pool and good food. Nice beds and very nice rooms.

I booked a night in December from El Sueno Tropical through their website, the reservation was confirmed and 25% was charged from my credit card. However, after this I received an email from the hotel that someone else had booked the room before me by calling the hotel so that now they didn't have any rooms left. They said that they could of course reimburse my deposit but that's the last time I heard of them. I have since tried to email them 3 times (no response) and called 2 times (both times being told that the money will be sent as soon as possible) and I still haven't received my deposit back. It's been almost 7 weeks now.
This being said, I really can't comment on the amenities of the hotel itself since I haven't spent a night there. But after this episode, I would rather spend my night sleeping on the beach than going to El Sueno Tropical.

It is important to note that Mr. Tna23 has never been our guest. This person has never set foot in our hotel. For this reason we believe that this comment is inappropriate and unfair. This person has paid 25% of the notes in advance using the PayPal service. Following his request, it is important to note that the person has been fully repaid. The delay that the person mentioned to reimburse been out of our control and due to Paypal and no to our hotel. We are very disappointed by the bad experience of this person. However we are more disappointed with the lack of rigor in Tripadvisor, which allows a person aggrieved by the slow service Paypal, tarnish the reputation of our hotel, so that the same person has never been our client. I have relatives in Costa Rica that reccomended this place. It´s in Playa Carrillo, about 2.0 miles from the beach. It has AC, pool, Italian restaurant, and bar. The staff and owners hangout at the bar and are very interesting people. The food here was pretty good, pricey but better than alot of places around. The rooms are neat and clean and they are good about replacing towels and making your bed in the morning.
The owners (husband and wife) are from California and bought this place not to long ago. During our two-day stay we got to know them pretty well. They would sit and have drinks at the bar with their patrons.
However, if you like places that are really lively with tons of people this is not the place. This has more B&B kinda feel. One of the major cons is that it is relatively far from the beach. You can walk but if you are not a strong walker take a cab. the hotel will call one for you. The hotel often gives rides for free but it depends on the availability of the staff. Overall, this place has a nice feel and I would stay here again.

We spent 4 nights at El Sueño Tropical and were very glad we did. This hotel is tucked away in beautiful tropical gardens, full of birds, butterflies, monkeys, armadillos. The Lodge (which houses the bar/restaurant) is open, airy and full of colorful hammocks. The pool was a must in the mid-day heat. We enjoyed breakfasts and dinners there, with lots of fresh fruit and local ingredients. Rooms were simple (we are a family of 5 and were very comfortable in a 2 bedroom villa) and met all our needs. The best part of our stay was the staff. Jose, Maria and Laura were so kind, helpful and welcoming. They set us up with everything from beach toys and to a doctor appointment in town when we needed one. If you are looking for a comfortable, laid-back place to stay five minutes from one of the most beautiful beaches in the world (Playa Carillo), this is the place for you.

the troop of howler monkeys, about 7-8 including a couple of frisky babies, came through yesterday, they come by almost every day as part of their territory.
there are kayaks, standup paddle boards and surf boards available in carrillo beach, and they can also organize river trips

some guests walk to Playa Carrillo, some jog or use one of our complimentary bikes, but it is 2 km away. we also offer free transfers back and forth in our van, or even lend one of our cars.
