If you’re a solo traveller looking for a budget stay in Shibuya, then this is the place for you.

I normally avoid hostels and accommodations with shared facilities (call me fancy, but I prefer a private room). This was the exception. Everything was sparkling clean, convenient, and well-kept. I was impressed with my stay.

A few things to note: If you are a light sleeper, this may not work for you, even with earplugs. I stayed on a Tuesday night, with other guests on my floor who were very quiet, and there is still some noise (even through ear plugs). The “capsules” are not sound proof (the front divider at the end of each is just a curtain shade). Unfortunately, there was also someone who thought doing laundry at 2am was a good idea, which added to the noise factor, but what can you do.

The only real downside was the way they allocated the spaces. I was on one of the women only floors (7th floor), and while there were only 5-6 people there for the evening, they had placed almost all of us all in capsules that were adjacent, instead of spreading guests out over the floor. Taking the latter approach may have provided more of a sound buffer in between each sleeping area.

There is a small safe in each sleeping area, although it is not large enough to hold a small laptop/large iPad Pro. However, there are lockers on the third floor that can accommodate slightly larger items.

The bathrooms are very clean, the sleeping area was very clean, the lounge area was nice, and the staff were lovely. The free beer happy hour is a nice touch, as are the croissants in the morning.

Overall, I would recommend this to a friend in Tokyo on a budget.

Dear guest, thank you for staying with us! We appreciate your kind review. We are happy to hear that you liked our hotel. We are sorry to hear that there was noise trouble in the night. In order to keep everyone reminding our hotel policy including not making noise on the sleeping floor, we have put a note on the elevator. We hope that it will improve the noise trouble in our facility. We are happy to hear that you would recommend our hotel to your friends! We are looking forward to seeing you and your friends! Best regards, Naoko/ The Millennials Shibuya

This place is fantastic. It’s extremely clean and looks luxury. The bed was super comfortable, I did not feel claustrophobic at all because the area you get is pretty big with a big bed and a high ceiling so you don’t feel you are in a capsule hotel. They have a very nice work room and also a lounge. The staff were fantastic and helpful. The location is central. when I travel I usually stay at four or five star hotels, but during the cherry Blossom season all the luxury hotels were sold out or they were ridiculously expensive like three or four times the regular price. This is the first time I stayed in a castle hotel, and it just did not felt like being in a hustle because it was so luxury and clean . It’s five minutes walking to the station. I stay three nights in the Shibuya and 4 in Kyoto location and they both were amazing. I will consider staying here again whenever I visit Japan .

Whan a memorable experience!

The hotel is so different than any other I've been before. Never been in a capsule hotel but I surely fell in love with this one!

The hotel staff are very nice and always have a smile on their face. The rooms are quite spacious and very quiet.

From reception I received my very own toiletries bag and an Iphone 5 with which I controlled the amenities in the room, such as the lighting.

The whole hotel is made in a very modern style and is always clean and tidy.

I'm definetly choosing it next time I'm visiting Tokyo.

So I’m going to start by saying something nice. The staff here is super friendly, there’s a large number of people you see working here, and they are all very kind and helpful. I’ve also stayed at the Millennials in Kyoto and the only thing I really missed was the lock on the curtain of the pods, because here you only get a (very) small safe under the bed, but it doesn’t even fit a laptop. It didn’t hold my DSRL either. They have bigger ones on the 3rd floor available, but it’s only one elevator and 10 floors, so getting there takes time! Which is unpractical to say the least.
Also, unlike the Kyoto one, here everyone gets a free breakfast (and by that they mean free coffee and pastries, but hey it’s something!)
The lounge and communal kitchen are great, the beds and pillows are comfortable. And the bathrooms are clean and well kept.

Now let’s move on to the real problem: the rest of the guests and the hotel’s inability to make them respect the rules.
When you come to hotels like this one, you obviously expect and tolerate “normal” sounds. Like people walking, organizing their stuff, sneezing, coughing, snoring, whispers or even communicating in a low voice. I can even understand an alarm because I guess some people don’t trust themselves to wake up with the hotel’s system (which personally I found very efficient).
But people take calls, talk very freely in their pods or through out the corridors, they come in late at night and keep talking with their friends, giggling at a volume which ends up being annoying in this type of pods. What does the hotel do? Offer you earplugs. The hotel has no system whatsoever that prevents this type of behavior from happening, if the guests talk or scream or whatever, it really doesn’t matter, because it kept happening several times.
(FYI, every time this happened, the people making loud noises were foreigners. Japanese people actually respect a lot other people’s right to sleep peacefully.)
I stayed for 10 nights and I wouldn’t recommend it for more than 3 honestly. Although I had a couple of rough nights on account of this issue and I guess it could happen at any moment, so I’m not sure I would recommend it at all.
It’s a shame the hotel doesn’t make sure that the guests follow through with the rules, otherwise it would really be up to the 5 stars reviews.

Hi Julie, Many thanks again for staying with us and sharing your experience. We're really glad to see you enjoyed our staff and facilities! Regarding the repeated noise issues we're extremely sorry that those prevented you from enjoying thoroughly your time here. Considering that pod floors are communal, it is first indeed important to consider that as any hostel there can be noises depending on the behaviour of other guests. We acknowledge that because of the way our facility is arranged (20 pods per floor), it makes floors more sensitive to such issues. We believe however that 'policing' is not an appropriate strategy and different measures are applied to prevent noises. Those are not always sufficient, but your comment is a good reminder for us to keep working on this. But, again as most hostels, before anything we do rely on the good/faithful behaviour of our guests. Any guest bothered by such an issue is very welcome to let the front desk knows so we can assist promptly. Thank you again for trying both our facility and we hope you had a pleasant time in Japan! Best wishes, Axel / The Millennials Shibuya

We booked the Millennials Shibuya at the last minute, when our hiking in Gifu was cut short by snow and prompted our return to Tokyo. We were cautious about a capsule hotel - I am 70 and my daughter 35 - but we found it to be a fun experience. The hotel is immaculately clean. The floor is quiet, with guests showing respect for one another. The bath is scrupulously maintained and not crowded. The common spaces are quite large, offering guests places both to work and socialize.

The place looks cool in videos but in reality, this place is all hype. The rooms are ridiculously hot, you have one small measly vent that is only blowing fresh air. If you get hot while sleeping this is not the place for you. The staff were nice but it is unbearable to sleep, the showers are great but when you get out and have to change in the shower there is no ventilation, and its basically a steam room. The free breakfast was mediocre at best, with small pastries and what not. I booked 3 nights but left after the first because its not just it. Definitely geared toward 20-25-year-olds but na this ain't worth the hype it gets.

Great place, pods are comfortable and roomy, I'm 193 cm tall and fit fine. Also people were quiet and respectful, obviously it's a good idea to sleep with ear plugs if you are sensible to noise, I usually do and they are provided here free of charge. It did feel like a sosial place but it depends on if you're lucky. They have an area that serves free beer from one hour every evening, its not very bar party vibe, its more people sitting around but I made friends on two different nights here which was nice as I was a solo traveler. I stay at this place at the start and end of my trip and would stay again, people in the reception is also very helpful if you have any questions, and you can even buy SIM cards and adapters there so its a great place to stay if your just arriving in Japan.

At this price point, you would be better off booking a traditional hotel room. I booked a “theater pod” and there was no explanation as to how to use the projector. The rooms are stuffy with only a single vent blowing in air (you can’t control the temperature). The pods are not large enough for oversized luggage and there is not enough room to even look through your luggage let alone change in the pod without the privacy flap open. I was drawn in by the flashy advertising and web desig. But disappointed by the execution of the concept. The only good qualities imo are the location, friendly staff, and clean facilities.

It was like a hotel in a hostel experience. Comfortable bed and pillows. Most importantly, they were clean. You have your own "smart" pod where you control the lights and fan with their iPod.

They have a reception area where you can chill with free flow beers everyday from 530 to 630pm. For those on a business trip, you can even use their shared working space for free.

In terms of location, you're in a great location. Very close to Shibuya Station (5 mins walk away) and close to some famous spots such as Shibuya Crossing, Hachiko Statue, Shibuya Sky Tree and the entertainment district at night. I would definitely recommend this place to stay in.

I loved this hotel!!! It was extremely well located, clean and modern. Two common areas to enjoy, great for meeting people or simply chill out with a book. One was ideal for working. They offered free beer from 5:30 to 6:30pm. The bed was really comfortable and very quiet at night. You could store food in the fridge, it has the comfort of a hotel and the friendliness of a hostel. Staff helpful and friendly. I would definitely come back if I return to Shibuya.
