i've been to a lot of high end resorts but to be in the wilderness, in luxury tents with fully functional bathrooms with heated floors !, an outdoor shower and in the middle of nature - priceless

John and the entire staff are top shelf - the food, the wine, the activities are second to none.

we started our first day with some yoga, had an amazing breakfast with homemade saugages and an egg white fratata - we then went hiking up 'Peggy's falls', came back for a gourmet lunch, then went white water kayaking down rapids- had a massage and a gourmet dinner with some outstanding wines......that was our first day

add in whale watching, salmon fishing, horseback riding, hikes and excursions to some amazing locations....and did i meantion the food ...

a Must go to !

Hello LTD50! Thank you for being the first guest of our 2013 season to write us a review, and what a great review at that! We are thrilled to hear that your experience here with us was such a great one. We strive each and every day to exceed people's expectations and it sounds like we succeed. So very happy to hear that we will be seeing you again and with your kids. As you know, this is a great place for kids of all ages. Until the next time, Kathy

This was without a doubt the best vacation experience our family has ever had.
When we first heard how expensive the resort is, we said, yeah, right....let's find someplace else. Thank goodness we changed our minds. This resort is worth every penny and then some.
If you have read the other reviews you know the setting is magical.
What is really unique to Clayoquot is the level of service. We have never experienced anything close and we have stayed at some of the best resorts in the world. We are picky eaters and Chef Ryan blew us away with meals prepared especially for us- hands down, it was the best food we have ever tasted. And the sommelier- Tereza expertly selected local wines for each course. She too went above and beyond, as did the entire wait staff in the cookhouse!
Activities are planned by the infinitely patient Kathy. Our family of four often had not one, but two guides with us! Each guide was patient, friendly and knowledgeable....
If you go to Clayoquot, expect the unexpected. We took a trip to see the giant Cedars on Meares Island. That hike, expertly led by Cheryl would have been more than enough by itself, but our boat driver Gary, who was born and raised on the island, knew where to find a black bear and better still, a pod of killer whales at play. WOW!
If you go, don't miss the Walk the Wild side- a hike around Flores island which basically looks like a movie setting- on our way to and from the island in the resorts zodiac, we saw black bear, gray whales, sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals, porpoises, and bald eagles, and surely we have forgotten some of what we saw.... Thank you Trevor and Qaamina!
But there is lots of great stuff right on the resort grounds - Owen took us on a beautiful trail ride across rushing streams and was patient with a bunch of novice riders! John taught our kids how to shoot clays right away and climb the big tree....(Sadly, he was not as successful with Mom and Dad.)
The resort's owner, John Caton made sure we were having a great time. We left feeling like a member of the resort family. Trust me, it was very hard to leave.
In four days you can only scratch the surface of what Clayoquot has to offer....we didn't get a chance to try the spa, or archery, or climb the rock wall or zip line, or go fishing, or paddle boarding or kayaking etc. etc.
And yes, the resort's dogs -which you can read about in the other reviews- are available to play with each and every guest!
One last thing- it rained during our entire stay and it didn't matter one bit! That might just be the best thing anyone can say about a resort.

We just came back from a week at Clayoquot. We loved absolutely every minute of
this exceptional vacation:
- Activities: from wild life watching to mountain biking, horse riding, deep-sea fishing, hiking to the suspended bridge or the gold mine, climbing, zip-lining, water-skiing, kayaking or simply enjoying the view in the hot tub, there are plenty to chose from. Activities are usually carried out individually (we only shared a boat with another family once) and with one to two guides dedicated to your family. The latters are very motivated and very happy to share these unique experiences with you. They also teach you about the First Nation Community and the sustainability program Clayoquot supports. Thanks in particular to Alex, Gary, Jeremy, Laterra, Sammy, Skippy.
- Resort: The place is amazing and it is impressive to see the amount of work and love put into building this wonderful resort in such a remote and wild area. The temperate rainforest is so amazing and pretty. All the infrastructure from the hard-built houses to the tents, the numerous boats, the stables, the road, the staff premises, etc. tell a lot about the energy put into this project. We stayed in an en-suite tent and we really appreciated the space, the comfort, the outdoor shower, the heating in the bathroom and the candles at night.
- Food: Congratulations to the chef and his team for the absolutely fabulous food: should you wish to enjoy the 5-course meal or “just” a grilled fresh-caught salmon salad, you would be delighted. Thank you also to Thereza for teaching us about BC wines with such passion.
Kids have already asked when we will return there. Well, we’ll have to save as indeed it is an expensive resort, but it is definitely worth every dollar and we do intend to go back.
Thank you Adele, John, Gary and all your exceptional team for making our stay a once in a life experience and for giving us so much to remember and to dream about.

This is my second time at Clayoquot and it meant all of my expectations again. It was nice to have full bathrooms in the tents - although it would have never stopped me from coming back. I particularly loved taking an outdoor shower.
The food is still amazing and the service perfect.
There was not one bad guide - all from Canada, they are all very friendly and knowledgeable. Our Heli- hike was fantastic and probably the most memorable thing for us to do as second time around.
It is a very remote place, and not necessarily for everyone - there is absolutely no cell phone on the resort.
it can appeal to anyone who likes an active outdoor vacation - my 11 year old had as much fun fishing for salmon as I had hiking or horse back riding!

It's difficult to put in writing how much of an outstanding time we had . Everything was top drawer, best of the best, over the top, superb, set the bar at a level that would be difficult to exceed! Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and wanting to make sure our time visiting was the best we could ever hope for, and it was! Food is described as Contemporary Coastal, but also comfortable, I would have to agree, the kitchen having earned high distinction by Relais & Chateaux! Our accommodations were along the waterfront, furnished with antique and very comfortable furniture, full bathroom facilities, as well as all amenities needed to ensure our stay was perfect. Activities we participated in were wildlife watching from a Zodiac allowing us to get up close to gray whales, sea otters, and bears, but maintaining a non threatening distance. Horseback riding and then hiking got us into the rainforest for up close and personal viewing of the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere. Our fishing adventure was successful, and our catch of Coho Salmon is being processed to be sent home. All guides were young, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. Transportation to and from the camp was via seaplane out of Vancouver airport and is weather dependent. The saying you can't do anything about the weather is true because our trip into camp was delayed a day because of foggy weather. We were there to relax and enjoy so we enjoyed the overnight accommodations provided at a luxury airport hotel at no additional cost. I see us returning in the future, most likely with the rest of our family so they too can enjoy this wonderful experience!
