One of the largest towns and most visitors’ first stop on Fiji, Nadi is a culturally diverse city of 30,000. Nadi Beach is a wide strand, perfect for lazing in the sun and watching sunsets. Nearby Natadola Beach is Fiji’s most spectacular and is popular for swimming and body surfing. Other paces to visit in Nadi include Sri Siva Subramaniya, the largest Hindu temple in the Southern hemisphere, the Sleeping Giant orchid gardens and Waqadra Botanical Gardens.

Savusavu is pure paradise. Originally established as a port for trade ships, the Fijian town is now a fast-developing tourist hotspot. Unsurprising, given its idyllic charm. Sink into hot springs for a rejuvenating soak or tour a private pearl farm that cultivates thousands of the multicolored treasures. SCUBA with world-renowned divers or splash in the spray of a majestic waterfall. Downtown, explore the vibrant wares of the local farmer’s market, where locals are happy to chat about Fiji’s foods and traditions.

Sure, it’s a bit rainy here. But a lush tropical paradise needs water—otherwise you wouldn’t see such brilliant flowers everywhere. The black-sand beaches provide contrast to the riot of colour everywhere else. Nature-lovers can see many of Fiji’s indigenous species, especially in Bouma National Heritage Park (where you should also stop at Bouma Falls).
