If you’re in Tenerife for not very long or you don’t want to hire a car, then this is a must-do trip that’s amazing value for money.
We got picked up very close to our hotel in Costa Adeje, with the operator emailing precise instructions (on that note, definitely arrive to your pick up point ahead of time). What followed was simply an amazing & comfortable day out around the west side of island.
While you’re on an air-conditioned coach a lot more than feet on the ground, that’s because you’re covering so much in one day! Mt Teide, the picturesque Masca and beautiful Garachico were the longest stops, 30-60 minutes, with a few shorter ones along the way. Plenty of time to walk around and take some pictures as long as you’re smart with your time.
The tour guide and driver were brilliant, we learnt so much about the island and its geography & history, while being driven through VERY steep & narrow roads by what has to be the best driver on Tenerife!
Some tips: bring bottled water, but also be sure to buy refreshments and a souvenir to support local business. Don’t do this trip if you get travel sick and don’t have strong meds. Absolutely do this trip if you love being driven near sheer cliff edges (sit on the left side of the coach for the best views).
Finally, if you’re a Brit and were considering hiring a car to drive these Masca roads: DON’T DO IT. You could easily tell who knew the roads and who didn’t when an oncoming bus could knock you off the edge if you haven’t given it enough clearance. We’ve been absolutely spoiled by the Romans and these are roads you’ll not want to face even if you’re feeling brave. Let the safest pair of hands in the business take you instead!
