Top ways to experience Jade Market and nearby attractions

The area
Neighbourhood: Jordan / Yau Ma Tei
The Jordan and Yau Ma Tei neighbourhood is where you will find some of the more authentic areas of Hong Kong. Not as glamourous or busy as its neighbours Mong Kok to the north or Tsim Sha Tsui to the south, Yau Ma Tei is often mistakenly overlooked by visitors on their trips to Hong Kong. Exploring parts of this area makes you feel like you’ve been transported back in time. A large part of the neighbourhood draws from the rich history of Temple Street, stretching from Jordan to Yau Ma Tei, where a mix of dai pai dongs (outdoor restaurants), market stalls, fortune tellers and old karaoke bars bring out the history and culture of the area. The neighbourhood is a showcase of diversity – different ethnicities, cultures, and a mix of old and new.

Total harassment. Very disappointed with the experience. Highly avoidable. They are very aggressive sellers grabbing your arm and ignoring what you say and want. It felt awkward. I totally regretted the visit.

Shame and double shame on the Hong Kong Tourist Authorities for permitting this disaster of a tourist trap to remain open. From the first 30 seconds of entry being grabbed by the arm and hassled for the next 20 mins for a sale, this Hong Kong Experience should be REMOVED from the to do list. No wonder the vendors are desperate for a sale when no one wants to go there. I strongly recommend to avoid at all costs. There are.countless other Jade options across the city. Do not go or caveat emptor!!!!

The choice of jade-products was overwhelming. There were a lot of very cramped booths selling all pretty much the same. No prices sou you have to ask and of course haggle. The vendors are very pushy one even tried to grab me as we walked through. We walked at quite a pace and tried not to stop because it felt rather uncomfortable. Eventually, my friend decided she wanted to buy something after all so she randomly stopped at a booth and tried to get a good price. I ended up buying a pearl necklace which was probably way overpriced and I do not have proof of authenticity but at a store at home I probably would have paid about the same for fake-pearls so I'm okay with the price I paid.

So much fun and jewelry designs you will otherwise find in the high end jewelry stores. But you need to haggle, to about a fourth or a third of the given price. But the quality is vey good, no matter the seller

After such a long hiatus, I was finally able to go visit Hong Kong and the Yau Matei Jade Market. I was shocked to discover the old site was now a constructions ie. Thankfully, I went a bit further and saw that the jade market was still in operation but in the building with a proper signage over the entrance. I went in and it was full of stalls but so many were wrapped up in tarp as the stall keepers had yet to arrive to start the business day. I had to walk around a few times before finding my regular sellers. Was so glad yo see them but the other stall keepers were very aggressively trying to interest me in their wares. Overall it was a fruitful and enjoyable time spent there.

Having visited the Jade market regularly when I was in HK prior to COVID I went looking for it again. The site it used to occupy is now being dug up for building works, but if you look a little to the left towards Nathan Road, you will see a grey building and that is where it has moved to. I was delighted to find my usual supplier Sandra Chau of Sandra's Pearls there. She is now Stall 152 and definitely worth a visit. She has terrific stock and never pushes things on to you but likes you to decide. Her prices are fair and the quality of her jewelry is good. I would definitely recommend her.

I will start off this review by saying I only went to see Sandra at Booth 152, based on all of the reviews on TripAdvisor, and Iwas not disappointed. I do not enjoy the haggling and negotiating of places like this so I was happy for all of the recommendations and made a beeline for her booth. She wasn't there that day, but her sister and her brother helped me out. They gave me great prices and even more discounts based on the quantity that I bought.

I sincerely appreciated The patient and friendly customer service and was in and out in less than 30 minutes.

Great experience at the Jade Market. We first met Kelvin who was a thoroughly lovely and helpful man. I bought some earrings and a traditional bracelet from him. He then introduced us to his sister of Sandra Pearls who designs her own jewelry. Stall 152. Her designs are lovely and bought some delicate earrings and a pendant necklace. All good prices. Very happy. We lived in HK for over 20 years so know the prices offered are reasonable.

I visited Jade Market in search of something memorial.
Sandra pearls that many people reviewed as stall No. "447"previously, is now located in stall No. "152" because of the rearrangement of the market.
Compatible with other reviews, Ms. Sandra is a reliable, polite and so kind person.
She kindly showed and told me the difference among genuine/ genuine but artificially colored/ fake jade (genuine one is cool to the touch).
The price of jade is so reasonable and the quality is so satisfactory that you don't need negotiation.
