The area
Neighbourhood: Jordan / Yau Ma Tei
The Jordan and Yau Ma Tei neighbourhood is where you will find some of the more authentic areas of Hong Kong. Not as glamourous or busy as its neighbours Mong Kok to the north or Tsim Sha Tsui to the south, Yau Ma Tei is often mistakenly overlooked by visitors on their trips to Hong Kong. Exploring parts of this area makes you feel like you’ve been transported back in time. A large part of the neighbourhood draws from the rich history of Temple Street, stretching from Jordan to Yau Ma Tei, where a mix of dai pai dongs (outdoor restaurants), market stalls, fortune tellers and old karaoke bars bring out the history and culture of the area. The neighbourhood is a showcase of diversity – different ethnicities, cultures, and a mix of old and new.

Yue Hwa is an old-fashioned Chinese department store in Kowloon. A landmark of Nathan Road for decades, it is still an interesting place for tourists. It includes some impressive artworks and artefact elusive in Hong Kong. Well worth visiting when in the area.

Yue Hwa is a Hong Kong based department store & group of emporium shops that specialise in Chinese products, quite a bit different to other HK based department stores like Wing On, Sincere, AEON and the likes. This is their flagship place along Nathan Road that is open from 10am to 10pm daily.

What you will find here is a huge five storey place filled with traditional Chinese items ranging from traditional herbal medicines, traditional clothing, furniture, art, instruments, jade, jewellery, household items as well as other more western type items. It is a neat place to walk through if you want to see what a department store and emporium might look like on the mainland.

Visit their website if you want to find one of Yue Hwa other specialty shops located around the city.

The staff is a little pushy. Pricing is not logical. Typical of a department store. There is some interesting merchandise material to be found there. Better than some of the others.

It is easy to find Chinese food stuff and cosmetics. I always buy the Chinese facial cream for wrinkles that work so good for me. Unfortunately I can't buy it in my country.

I was told about this randomly, when I was looking for chopstick souvenirs. For the record there’s hardly any there. There are some cool things though, each floor has a different category. I liked walking through and looking at everything. If you’re looking for a one stop chinese shop, this is it.

While shopping for a silk quilt, I enjoyed looking at the variety of furniture from the various dynasties. You could set up a house after visiting this one store. Staff were uniformly helpful, locating English speakers (Australian English can be difficult) and actually listening to my requests before making suggestions.Worth a look even if not intending to buy.
