- Off their PManchester, United Kingdom3,994 contributionsVery pretty indeedThis is a five minute walk from our accommodation so we used to go there a lot. It is a beautiful area grey opportunity for photographs and so on. The only reason this isn't a five star of Reviews that the seaweed is a problem obviously not of anyone's making. They do their best, but it is black and smells a little. The sand is beautiful though and the local love to go down late afternoon with beers from the supermarket and come to watch. We spent a long time there and really enjoyed our visits. The sea is calm and safe.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten September 20, 2023
- Christian MCopenhagen, Denmark5,495 contributionsOur favorite beach and town on the Riviera MayaAfter visiting the picturesque Playa Paraiso in Tulum, the lively Playa del Carmen, and the turtle paradise in Akumal, we can now confirm that the beach in Puerto Morelos is the best and coziest. There is free access for everyone, it's easily accessible, and the large, lovely beach is protected by a massive reef, so both kids and adults can safely swim. Next time, we'll spend our entire beach vacation in Mexico in Puerto Morelos.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 28, 2024

A great beach, clean too. A lot of effort put in to keep it clean. Never gets too busy and has a lot of seabirds like pelicans.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 9, 2024

Weather didn't cooperate: rained first day, ocean too cold to snorkel. The town itself was welcoming, the beach and food very nice . Mid February too soon I guess.

Town was fun to visit. Not very large, but lots of restaurant choices. Beach was too full of sargassum to enjoy, but they were doing their best to remove it.

2023 Sargassum crisis. Arrived in PM Feb 1 and we have been very saddened by the amount of sargassum to the point where we will not be coming back next year after 3rd annual visit. Love the place but beach is the main reason we come south for 2 months at a time. We are no longer able to enjoy it here.

It's a beach. It's relaxing and not that crowded. And if you get hungry there are a bunch of places to walk to - as far down as RoMarley at one end.

This is a great public beach for everyone, nice sand, water is great for swimming and snorkelling. It is close to any amenities that you may want near a beach, food, shopping, excursions etc.

Stayed at the resort right next to town - 15-20 minute walk - went into town a couple of times - quaint and not as touristy as Playa del Carmen but still had amenities, some shopping and restaurants, etc. The beach however is why you go! At least a km of sand that is well maintained and clear water! If nothing else, just walk the beach!!

Beach is beautiful and clean. Spend every day on beach.
There was a gentleman creating sand sculptures a few times during our stay. Amazing work!

Is there a secure place to lock up our personal belongings (i.e., hotel key, cell phone, money) while we are snorkeling, and if so where and how much?

We’ve never had any trouble leaving valuables in a bag with a towel over it. Amazing how safe it is in Mexico. We have left phones and cash with our shoes etc. just keep it out of sight. I think everyone is doing the same thing and trusting each other.

Do you have to be staying at the hotel to use this beach? I'll just be coming from Cancun for the day (will come back if i really like it, it does look like a lovely town) so would like to know if there are sun beds and umbrellas available to hire.
Thank you.

250 pesos gets 2 chairs umbrella for the day. thats about $13 us. waiters come to your setup for drinks and food. all were great. Locals come through selling snacks and trinkets, not bothersom though. i got huge cup of fresh fruit from one for maybe 20 pesos. The local latino culture there is they support one another so they do not chase the selllers out even though you are at a bar and restaurant. i thought it to be great experience. See Rudy for the chairs!

sorry Frank I don't have an email address.
If this is your first time in PM. I would caution against the hotel.
I have never been inside but I normally stay in a condo next door and have seen the place from the outside and it looks to me to be a one star. The restaurant and beach are great but I would personally avoid the hotel. Hope im not out of line

What is the history of the Ojo itself. When was it discovered?
